Narcissus, I no longer haunt the canyons
and the crypts. I thrive and multiply;
uncounted daughters are my new companions.
We are the voicemail's ponderous reply
to the computers making random calls.
We are the Muzak in the empty malls,
the laughtrack on the reruns late at night,
the distant siren's chilling lullaby,
the steady chirp of things that simplify
their scheduled lives. You know I could recite
more, but you never cared for my recitals.

Haunted By Their Memory
Why with all the faces that we knew,
does a few seem to fill our thoughts
and haunt us sometimes for days.
The problem with these faces
they are of friends who faded away
and will not be seen again.
Is this our memory telling us
we should have been closer then
and not let their friendship drift away?
That we should have kept in touch more.
Spoke more on the telephone,
and wrote a letter or two,
maybe even visited from time to time.
Now we are haunted by their faces
for things we should have done, but never did.
Is this our punishment for not making the time
to keep in touch with them

Period Doubling Route to Chaos
It starts somewhere at x and moves to y,
Zigzagging like a random, fleeting z,
While in my heart it seems to multiply
And run away toward infinity.
It starts like some equation in a dream
That sums up all the things I feel in me-
This sky, this night, this moon-all somehow seem
To resonate in perfect symmetry.
This nightclub, where I come to spend my time
And contemplate the female form disrobed
Before the cheering throng of horny guys,
Where I still find a certain glimpse of hope-
A random spark that fuels my fantasy...
And when it's over, all the drunks return
To their dull and unfulfilling lives,

I never keep track of the number of poems
I have written to get to present places.
I wonder how much fire, how much desire
And yearning for healing have inspired me
After those good-byes and heartbreaks -
When you bid farewell for another town,
When frequency of your calls dropped down,
When your call never ever happened again,
Then I waited in vain for far too long,
Then I imagined jumping down the Empire State,
And you appear like a ghost of the past to tell me:
'What the hell was I thinking when I left?
Is it too late for you take me back? '
Ex-lovers have a skin twice as thick as their victims.
They are never into poetry for it is too lame for them.
While poets pour their hearts out to their craft,
Exes are online hooking up with Mr./Ms. Horndog.
Well, verses grow like vines. Words pile up in my head.
I can mesh some together and create a ballad,
Reserve a few lines for future experiences.
Dramatic, melodic, cathartic, such warm company,
Warm enough for cold wee hours of the morning -
Poems make life become more than about lovers.
Endless pages of rhymes, sheets of haiku -
The swinging of the pendulum is all I hear.
My voicemail is empty; my email, as well.
The ceiling seems farther by the hour;
But the poems and I do not have signs

Summer Lullaby
The moon peaks from behind a cloud
on a cloudy night.
A night when courting couples
stroll to their rendezvous.
The night is filled with sounds,
from the flutter of an owl on wing
and crickets chirping song.
Our two lovers hear nothing
of this summer lullaby,
but only their two hearts beat
as they stroll along.
The air is fresh and sweet
brushed along by a cool evening breeze.
Far away in distant lands, a war may flourish,
but here within a woodland
the lovers think not of that,
