The Little Roads
The great roads are all grown over
That seemed so firm and white.
The deep black forests have covered them.
How should I walk aright?
How should I thread these tangled mazes,
Or grope to that far off light?
I stumble round the thickets, and they turn me
Back to the thickets and the night.
Yet, sometimes, at a word, an elfin pass-word,
(O, thin, deep, sweet with beaded rain!)
There shines, through a mist of ragged-robins,
The old lost April-coloured lane,
That leads me from myself; for, at a whisper,
Where the strong limbs thrust in vain,
At a breath, if my heart help another heart,
The path shines out for me again.
A thin thread, a rambling lane for lovers
To the light of the world's one May,
Where the white dropping flakes may wet our faces
As we lift them to the bloom-bowed spray:
O Master, shall we ask Thee, then, for high-roads,
Or down upon our knees and pray
That Thou wilt ever lose us in Thy little lanes,
And lead us by a wandering way.

All Roads Lead Back To You
Some roads are rough and rocky
Some very narrow to get through
But whatever road I travel
It always leads back to you
You are my beacon light
That shines through every storm
You are there by the fire
That keeps our house a home
You walk with me each day
Through happiness and pain
You are my sheltering umbrella
Whenever there is rain
No matter where I travel
Where ever in the world I roam
I have the inner knowledge
That I will never lose my way
Because all roads lead back to you
And the place we call our home

Be In The Word
Everyday you should be in The Word, this friend, I have often heard.
I need God to guide me every day, to listen to what He has to say.
For The Lord has a path set for me, to lead me safely into Eternity.
His Word is a light on my path, to guide me away from pending wrath.
But when I stray from His light, I walk from the day into the night.
I begin to kick against the goads, and wander down forbidden roads.
His Word is my very life to me, and it guides me when I can not see.
For The Word of God in my life, guards me from much pain and strife.
I must hide it in my heart, for Christ is with me each waking start.
And He goes with me throughout the day guiding every word I say.
And whenever I forget to pray, my heart deep inside begins to stray.
Then I forget The Word He instilled and act against my Father’s will.
His Word can not be ignored, for it’s sharper than a two edged sword.
And it cuts deep into the heart of man, and shows me just what I am.
I’m a sinner saved by God’s Grace, and daily I need to seek His face.
Prayer is how my heart may plea but The Word is how God speaks to me.
When through prayer I speak to Him, His Word helps me deal with sin.
With The Word dwelling within, the daily battles Christ helps me win.
His Word is an essential part in my life and how God cleanses my heart.
When I allow The Word to dwell in me, The Spirit truly sets me free.
Christ sets me free from my will so that in my life His is fulfilled.
And that, according to God’s Word, is to preach until all have heard.
That for me He paid the price, and on that cross I died with Christ.
And for me to serve Jesus Christ, my life must be a living sacrifice.

The Rope
(stephanie davis)
In waters calm I sailed from shore
To see what I might see
And having never sailed before
I drifted aimlessly
A warm breeze rocked my boat until
In slumber I fell sound
But woke to find the light grown dim
And dark clouds gathering round
In haste I worked at turning back
But now the wind blew wrong
And when the night came cold and black
My strength was almost gone
But with one last small thread of hope
I bowed my head to pray
Then through the dark I saw a rope
And heard a calm voice say
Grab the rope
Hold it tight
In the distance
Shines a light
Neither fear
Nor feel alone
There is one
Wholl lead you home
I heard my heart beat loud and fast
But did as I was told
And with the rosey dawn at last
Dry land I did behold
I kissed the sandy banks and swore
My sailing days were through
But should I ever stray from shore
I know now what to do
Grab the rope
Hold it tight
In the distance
Shines a light
Neither fear
Nor feel alone
There is one
Wholl lead you home
Grab the rope
Hold it tight
In the distance
Shines a light
Neither fear
Nor feel alone
There is one
Wholl lead you home

Ill Be There
People need their reasons
Reasons to live and reasons to die
Just something to believe in
Whatever it takes to get through the night
When the road just leads to nowhere
And your faith cant follow through
Ill be there for you, Ill be there for you
Black is black and white is white
And the blues are sometimes gray
When you hurt and you dont know why
And your tears wont go away
Theres a rainbow out there somewhere
And one thing is always true
Ill be there for you, Ill be there for you
Chorus:
Ill be there for you, when hope seems thin and your chances are few
Ill be there for you, Ill share the pain and be someone to hold
And theres so much more I can do, Ill be there for you
We could talk forever
Theres reasons to stay and reasons to go
But while were here together
I might as well make my intentions known
Theres a light that shines in my window
Its a place you can run back to
And Ill be there for you, Ill be there for you
Ill be there for you, when hope seems thin and your chances are few
Ill be there for you, when the outside world turns your inside cold
And no one will tell you the truth, Ill be there for you
And if the day should come in this lifetime (I will be there)
I hope one mornin youll wake up to find
Anyone with half a heart could see, we might cross this great divide
(guitar solo)
When the road just leads to nowhere
And faith cant follow through
Ill be there for you, Ill be there for you
Ill be there for you, when hope seems thin and your chances are few
Ill be there for you, Ill share the pain and be someone to hold
Theres so much more I can do, so much more
Baby Ill be there for you, yes I will, you know that
I will be there for you, yes I will, I will be there (Ill be there for you)
I will be there (Ill be there for you)
(Ill be there for you) dont you worry baby
(Ill be there for you) I will, I will...

The Return
The grass was gray with the moonlit dew,
The stones were white as I came through;
I came down the path by the thirteen yews,
Through the blocks of shade that the moonlight hews.
And when I came to the high lych-gate
I waited awhile where the corpses wait;
Then I came down the road where the moonlight lay
Like the fallen ghost of the light of day.
The bats shrieked high in their zigzag flight,
The owls' spread wings were quiet and white,
The wind and the poplar gave sigh for sigh,
And all about were the rustling shy
Little live creatures that love the night -
Little wild creatures timid and free.
I passed, and they were not afraid of me.
It was over the meadow and down the lane
The way to come to my house again:
Through the wood where the lovers talk,
And the ghosts, they say, get leave to walk.
I wore the clothes that we all must wear,
And no one saw me walking there,
No one saw my pale feet pass
By my garden path to my garden grass.
My garden was hung with the veil of spring -
Plum-tree and pear-tree blossoming;
It lay in the moon's cold sheet of light
In garlands and silence, wondrous and white
As a dead bride decked for her burying.
Then I saw the face of my house
Held close in the arms of the blossomed boughs:
I leaned my face to the window bright
To feel if the heart of my house beat right.
The firelight hung it with fitful gold;
It was warm as the house of the dead is cold.
I saw the settles, the candles tall,
The black-faced presses against the wall,
Polished beechwood and shining brass,
The gleam of china, the glitter of glass,
All the little things that were home to me -
Everything as it used to be.
Then I said, 'The fire of life still burns,
And I have returned whence none returns:
I will warm my hands where the fire is lit,
I will warm my heart in the heart of it!'
So I called aloud to the one within:
'Open, open, and let me in!
Let me in to the fire and the light -
It is very cold out here in the night!'
There was never a stir or an answering breath -
Only a silence as deep as death.
Then I beat on the window, and called, and cried.
No one heard me, and none replied.
The golden silence lay warm and deep,
And I wept as the dead, forgotten, weep;
And there was no one to hear or see -
To comfort me, to have pity on me.
But deep in the silence something stirred -
Something that had not seen or heard -
And two drew near to the window-pane,
Kissed in the moonlight and kissed again,
And looked, through my face, to the moon-shroud, spread
Over the garlanded garden bed;
And--'How ghostly the moonlight is!' she said.
Back through the garden, the wood, the lane,
I came to mine own place again.
I wore the garments we all must wear,
And no one saw me walking there.
No one heard my thin feet pass
Through the white of the stones and the gray of the grass,
Along the path where the moonlight hews
Slabs of shadow for thirteen yews.
In the hollow where drifted dreams lie deep
It is good to sleep: it was good to sleep:
But my bed has grown cold with the drip of the dew,
And I cannot sleep as I used to do.

Eve- Song
I span and Eve span
A thread to bind the heart of man;
But the heart of man was a wandering thing
That came and went with little to bring:
Nothing he minded what we made,
As here he loitered, and there he stayed.
I span and Eve span
A thread to bind the heart of man;
But the more we span the more we found
It wasn't his heart but ours we bound.
For children gathered about our knees:
The thread was a chain that stole our ease.
And one of us learned in our children's eyes
That more than man was love and prize.
But deep in the heart of one of us lay
A root of loss and hidden dismay.
He said he was strong. He had no strength
But that which comes of breadth and length.
He said he was fond. But his fondness proved
The flame of an hour when he was moved.
He said he was true. His truth was but
A door that winds could open and shut.
And yet, and yet, as he came back,
Wandering in from the outward track,
We held our arms, and gave him our breast,
As a pillowing place for his head to rest.
I span and Eve span,
A thread to bind the heart of man!

1 John 2: 8
At the back of her mind...was a man.
Somewhere in the roads she walked before.
Those dark roads of her life-
she paused and turned back.
There was no one there...
darkness covered the path.
Is his shadows hiding over the face of the night?
Or perhaps he was gone as was the light;
I wonder...how she must have felt
that the man she lived for
is now a memory she doesn't want to remember.
Had she wept? I know not.
Perhaps... or perhaps not.
For when I saw her stepping out of darkness,
I saw the smile in her eyes.
I'm certain it was joy that was written on her face
thinking she will never walk those roads again.
I looked away from her brown eyes and said to myself:
I'll never walk those roads again...
The darkness is past, the true light now shineth
and the past is gone.
At the back of my mind there is this MAN -
and I know Him.
I'll walk the roads He walked
for I know in them I'll find my way back home.

A November Night
There! See the line of lights,
A chain of stars down either side the street --
Why can't you lift the chain and give it to me,
A necklace for my throat? I'd twist it round
And you could play with it. You smile at me
As though I were a little dreamy child
Behind whose eyes the fairies live. . . . And see,
The people on the street look up at us
All envious. We are a king and queen,
Our royal carriage is a motor bus,
We watch our subjects with a haughty joy. . . .
How still you are! Have you been hard at work
And are you tired to-night? It is so long
Since I have seen you -- four whole days, I think.
My heart is crowded full of foolish thoughts
Like early flowers in an April meadow,
And I must give them to you, all of them,
Before they fade. The people I have met,
The play I saw, the trivial, shifting things
That loom too big or shrink too little, shadows
That hurry, gesturing along a wall,
Haunting or gay -- and yet they all grow real
And take their proper size here in my heart
When you have seen them. . . . There's the Plaza now,
A lake of light! To-night it almost seems
That all the lights are gathered in your eyes,
Drawn somehow toward you. See the open park
Lying below us with a million lamps
Scattered in wise disorder like the stars.
We look down on them as God must look down
On constellations floating under Him
Tangled in clouds. . . . Come, then, and let us walk
Since we have reached the park. It is our garden,
All black and blossomless this winter night,
But we bring April with us, you and I;
We set the whole world on the trail of spring.
I think that every path we ever took
Has marked our footprints in mysterious fire,
Delicate gold that only fairies see.
When they wake up at dawn in hollow tree-trunks
And come out on the drowsy park, they look
Along the empty paths and say, "Oh, here
They went, and here, and here, and here! Come, see,
Here is their bench, take hands and let us dance
About it in a windy ring and make
A circle round it only they can cross
When they come back again!" . . . Look at the lake --
Do you remember how we watched the swans
That night in late October while they slept?
Swans must have stately dreams, I think. But now
The lake bears only thin reflected lights
That shake a little. How I long to take
One from the cold black water -- new-made gold
To give you in your hand! And see, and see,
There is a star, deep in the lake, a star!
Oh, dimmer than a pearl -- if you stoop down
Your hand could almost reach it up to me. . . .
There was a new frail yellow moon to-night --
I wish you could have had it for a cup
With stars like dew to fill it to the brim. . . .
How cold it is! Even the lights are cold;
They have put shawls of fog around them, see!
What if the air should grow so dimly white
That we would lose our way along the paths
Made new by walls of moving mist receding
The more we follow. . . . What a silver night!
That was our bench the time you said to me
The long new poem -- but how different now,
How eerie with the curtain of the fog
Making it strange to all the friendly trees!
There is no wind, and yet great curving scrolls
Carve themselves, ever changing, in the mist.
Walk on a little, let me stand here watching
To see you, too, grown strange to me and far. . . .
I used to wonder how the park would be
If one night we could have it all alone --
No lovers with close arm-encircled waists
To whisper and break in upon our dreams.
And now we have it! Every wish comes true!
We are alone now in a fleecy world;
Even the stars have gone. We two alone!

Mindfield
He screams at me in my own voice.
Dismantling my being thread by thread.
While inside I cower to the deepest depths of my soul.
I rage, yet I am gentle.
I am not good enough, yet I am great.
I am weak, yet so strong.
I am ugly, yet I am beautiful.
I am right, yet I am wrong.
I do what I think, and not think of what I do.
Greed, power, control and fear.
Feeding my starving mind.
A glutton that can never be satisfied.
I must be right.
In order to be right, I cannot do right.
Burying myself deeper and deeper inside.
It is not the world that can fix me.
It is the world that broke me.
I am truly broken.
I try to seep through the cracks of my brokenness.
I still see no light though.
I beat myself to a pulp.
The final blow.
A knock out punch I delivered.
Which came at the hands of another.
I am now shattered.
Yet, I am now truly free.
Pick up the pieces of myself.
I was my own worst enemy.
It was when I was broken,
I broke others,
It was when I was hurt,
I hurt others.
It was when I was lost,
Following the lost,
Becoming even more lost.
I am now found.
My inner light shines.
To help guide you home.
For your home is truly.
Deep inside my heart.

My Little Light
I need my little light to shine, for The Savior, all the time,
That light God has put in me, for everyone around to see,
The difference now in my life, in the Light of Jesus Christ,
Each and every place I go, my light for Christ must show.
The light God has put in me, is light that leads to eternity,
A light that leads other men, to know that I'm Born Again,
Born of God's Spirit above, providing all light I speak of,
Light that is all from God, this I say with a confident nod.
A light must shine every place, as we're still under Grace,
In an age where wrong's right, I need to show God's light,
Light shines best in the dark, and it begins with His spark,
From God's light deep within, to be light in a world of sin.
When I'm going through a trial, His light shines, no denial,
Through a trial or in a test, God's light surely shines best,
It is Christ's Light men see, not the strength of you or me,
For in a day when all is wrong, it is His light that is strong.
God's light reflects true peace, that all see doesn't cease,
Peace that is from the Lord, by others, goes not ignored,
As God affords us in this life, to point all to Jesus Christ,
For His light shines anytime, as I'm God's and He is mine.

I’d Trade All Of My Tomorrows
Of all the roads I’ve travelled,
the worst one was losing you.
Now I’d trade of all my tomorrows,
for just one of those yesterdays.
Those days when we would walk,
arm in arm down lovers lane,
and I would sit with my arm around your shoulders,
in the back row of the pictures,
when the evening came.
Oh, if I could only bring them back again.
The days when we were happy,
dancing in the rain,
but you have found someone new,
whose love you say
shines brighter than mine.
Now I guess my loneliness,
is just another sign of our times.

Dead Man's Morrice
There came a crowder to the Mermaid Inn,
One dark May night,
Fiddling a tune that quelled our motley din,
With quaint delight,
It haunts me yet, as old lost airs will do,
A phantom strain:
_Look for me once, lest I should look for you,
And look in vain._
In that old wood, where ghosts of lovers walk,
At fall of day,
Gleaning such fragments of their ancient talk
As poor ghosts may,
From leaves that brushed their faces, wet with dew,
Or tears, or rain,...
_Look for me once, lest I should look for you,
And look in vain._
Have we not seen them--pale forgotten shades
That do return,
Groping for those dim paths, those fragrant glades,
Those nooks of fern,
Only to find that, of the may they knew,
No wraiths remain;
_Yet they still look, as I should look for you,
And look in vain._
They see those happier ghosts that waned away--
Whither, who knows?--
Ghosts that come back with music and the may,
And Spring's first rose,
Lover and lass, to sing the old burden through,
Stave and refrain:
_Look for me once, lest I should look for you,
And look in vain._
So, after death, if in that starless deep,
I lose your eyes,
I'll haunt familiar places. I'll not keep
Tryst in the skies.
I'll haunt the whispering elms that found us true,
The old grass-grown lane.
_Look for me there, lest I should look for you,
And look in vain._
There, as of old, under the dreaming moon,
A phantom throng
Floats through the fern, to a ghostly morrice tune,
A thin sweet song,
Hands link with hands, eyes drown in eyes anew,
Lips meet again....
_Look for me, once, lest I should look for you,
And look in vain._

All Roads Lead To You
Headed north on a one-way trip
I never thought Id be back this way
I never thought Id be missing you
Enough to suffer for the whole night through
Headed south and I didnt look back
I rode the wind off a beaten track
Tried running from the thought of you
Haunted down by what I know is true
To the north
To the south
It dont matter
Every road leads to you
(Im coming home)
Chorus:
All roads lead to you
Wherever I go
Everytime I told you I was just passing through
What my heart didnt know, was all roads lead to you
Headed east on an amtrak train
I hit the city in the pouring rain
I never thought Id be calling you
Every hour from that hotel room
Headed west on a jumbo jet
I rode off into the red sunset
I stood there knocking on the devils door
Wondering what the hell im searchin for
To the east
To the west
It dont matter
Every road leads to you
(Im coming home)
Chorus
All my life, the winding road Ive followed, has led me straight to your arms
All roads lead to you
(gotta get back to you, baby)
Wherever I go
(ah, yeah, yeah)
Everytime I told you I was just passing through
What my heart didnt know, was all roads lead to you
Im coming home to you , baby, oooooo
All roads lead to you
(Im coming home)
All roads lead to you
(never goin away again)
All roads lead to you
(ah, ha, yeah)
All roads lead to you
All roads lead to you
(gotta get back to you, woman)
All roads lead to you
All roads lead to you
All roads lead to you

Steel slugs slam
into black, shattered walls,
dim cars grinding
down sanguine streets
careening
into the black well
of night.
The sun,
dropping into deep,
inky waters
shines
on some other world,
and the pale moon
pours thick silence
into the portals of our ears.
We lift our faces
into black rain,
to purify sullied eyes
left bloody and dim
by the death of children,
the strangulation of faith.
She watches and weeps
And waits for words
she longs to hear,
“Ave Maria…pray for us sinners, ”
and at once dropping
to bended knee
gazes
into His human eyes.
“now and at the hour”
The hour of a million sins
The hour of deep silence
Come home at last,
“of our death”
as bitter wormwood bores deep
in the bowels of our fear.
Smiling,
she intones her answer,
“Amen.”

Spectral Lovers
By night they haunted a thicket of April mist,
Out of that black ground suddenly come to birth,
Else angels lost in each other and fallen on earth.
Lovers they knew they were, but why unclasped, unkissed?
Why should two lovers be frozen apart in fear?
And yet they were, they were.
Over the shredding of an April blossom
Scarcely her fingers touched him, quick with care,
Yet of evasions even she made a snare.
The heart was bold that clanged within her bosom,
The moment perfect, the time stopped for them,
Still her face turned from him.
Strong were the batteries of the April night
And the stealthy emanations of the field;
Should the walls of her prison undefended yield
And open her treasure to the first clamorous knight?
“This is the mad moon, and shall I surrender all?
If he but ask it I shall.”
And gesturing largely to the moon of Easter,
Mincing his steps and swishing the jubilant grass,
Beheading some field-flowers that had come to pass,
He had reduced his tributaries faster
Had not considerations pinched his heart
Unfitly for his art.
“Do I reel with the sap of April like a drunkard?
Blessed is he that taketh this richest of cities;
But it is so stainless the sack were a thousand pities.
This is that marble fortress not to be conquered,
Lest its white peace in the black flame turn to tinder
And an unutterable cinder.”
They passed me once in April, in the mist.
No other season is it when one walks and discovers
Two tall and wandering, like spectral lovers,
White in the season’s moon-gold and amethyst,
‘Who touch quick fingers fluttering like a bird
Whose songs shall never be heard.

Sometimes
Sometimes, I wonder why heaven is too high?
To touch the angels wings
Why is it too far?
To hear our wishes and prayer
Maybe, that’s the way it is
To hold on our faith,
And love comes, to those who believe it
No roads too wide, to make it across
No matter how far, wherever we are
Just believed when we pray
All of our fears will cast them away.
Sometimes I asked, why the sky is blue?
Like water from the sea
That brings peace and calming spirits
Like a light guide to face a rising sun
A light that shines in my eye
Lead me lord and show me the way
Let me stay by your guiding light
Show to me the new direction of life
Someone who walks through my life
You have given me a new direction
Someone whom I can hold on too
Sometimes I wish, to be a cloud in the sky
When the world is tumbling down
When there’s no need to run
Sometimes I dream to fly
And follow the wind
To lift my spirit higher as mountain
Perhaps, sometimes my head is spinning
I was lost in the dark
Lost in a highway of life
But then, I lift my hands to god
And he will show me the way.

O Lady, Leave Thy Silken Thread
O Lady, leave thy silken thread
And flowery tapestrie:
There's living roses on the bush,
And blossoms on the tree;
Stoop where thou wilt, thy careless hand
Some random bud will meet;
Thou canst not tread, but thou wilt find
The daisy at thy feet.
'Tis like the birthday of the world,
When earth was born in bloom;
The light is made of many dyes,
The air is all perfume;
There's crimson buds, and white and blue—
The very rainbow showers
Have turn'd to blossoms where they fell,
And sown the earth with flowers.
There's fairy tulips in the east,
The garden of the sun;
The very streams reflect the hues,
And blossom as they run:
While Morn opes like a crimson rose,
Still wet with pearly showers;
Then, lady, leave the silken thread
Thou twinest into flowers!

Salt is Sweet
Its dessert of salt
Rains mostly in night
And rarely in light
Has day and night
Color is black and white
Black resembles night
White resembles light
But its heart is black
So pours mostly in night
Whenever heart is tight
It pours all the night
Until heart sees light
Its rain is always salty
So it is very colorful
And makes life cheerful
It makes heart light
From night to light
With its salty rain
Its salt is very tasty
So drink it with heart
It makes heart strong
And makes life sweep
All past-reaped grief
With its flowing tears
Tears salt is sweet

The significant sun
The glow grows by day
And the plants make food
Flowers bloom
Lovers meet
Nighttime heat
The sun shines not at night but
But by day
The birds of the air
Chirp a melody
Whistling and fooling
For the curious to see
Why they play
The sun shines not at night
But by day
He hides his glow
Cause he cannot bear to see
The fright of the dark night
And the rays are no more there
Instead cold, musty air
Cold as the heart of the night
Brought about by no light
The sun shines not at night
But by day
Joyful laughter emerges faces
Greeting the bright mourning
Leaving the eerie night behind
The sun brings hope
The night brings fright
And the innocent hearts
Too fragile to bear the sight
Closes its eyes and wishes
For light
The sun shines not at night
But by day

Oh How She Shines
(doug johnson/pat bunch)
Darling I have a true confession
I ran into an old flame today
You wouldnt like the way our conversation
Turned to how we let each other slip away
I was reminded of a half forgotten feeling
One I shared with her so long ago
Since honesty is one thing we believe in
Let me tell you something you should know
Oh how she shines
Shines a light on you
And in that light I see
Just how much you mean to me
Oh how she shines
There was a time when she was all that mattered
Long before I gave my heart to you
But standing there only inches from her
She touched my hand and suddenly I knew
If there was a time I ever doubted
What Id do if she walked through my door
Could I turn around and leave without her
With all my heart now I can say for sure
Oh how she shines
Shines a light on you
And in that light I see
Just how much you mean to me
Oh how she shines
Oh how she shines
