War visits
too many places
traces blood markings
upon too many generations
War arrives
as old men decide
just where and when
to send young men to die
War leaves
too many faces
wearing traces of scars

because old men required young men should give

I stand watching you throw away your life
you are wearing a wedding ring
yet you have lost your wife
because you look around the room
and you cant find your pride
I stand by your side.
What do you have?
you say you have nothing
but you cant see what you have lost
and you say you will stop
but the drink is all you have got
you look around
and you cant find your pride
I stand by your side.
Your face is cut from a drunken fight
and every morning is a drunken night
the poison you persist must take your sight
leaving you with not one brain cell left
the alcohol has gone to your head
a park bench has become your bed.

Still I Sit With This Bitterness
After fifty years,
You are much too late!
To entice any interests
To bait my creative tastes.
I have not been waiting,
For your awareness to discover...
An identity you have suppressed,
That now finds you recovered.
When I was given 'gifts'
It was my duty to persist...
To lift them to heights.
Not to hide them in fright!
A veil from your eyes have been lifted.
You 'now' want to express your worth.
You now find something within yourself...
That you have found more valuable than dirt!
Weren't you the one to say back then,
That I was the scum of the Earth?
Now that scum is priceless!
And you find that 'scum'...
Has become 'royalty' to serve?
How humbling an 'act' I observe!

Foregone Conclusion. For M'selle Perrault
My muse like any woman will
use her feminine wiles and skill
To persuade me to her view
and will persist until I do
Exactly as she wants me to.
I’m well aware that she will win.
Should I surrender just give in?
I must defend my self respect
it is the least she will expect
So I protest to no effect.
When my muse makes up her mind.
Like any poet I will find.
I have no choice but to obey
and there is nothing I can say.
She will reject each argument.
That I can muster and present
Although it’s futile to resist.
My fragile ego will insist
I have no option but persist
to register my discontent.
Though this does not deter my muse.
She knows full well I can’t refuse.
She knows from my past history.
I will submit reluctantly
She always wins eventually
She knows I must put on a show
to satisfy my male ego.
She is prepared to wait until
I do obey her sovereign will.
She makes that clearly evident.
I cannot win I’m bound to lose
When I argue with my muse.
She’s confident she will prevail.
After all I’m only a male
Somewhat naïve and innocent.
She knows I am a gentleman
that’s why she’s certain that she can.
Persuade coerce or bully me
Until give in and agree.
My muse will brook no argument.
