Arthur Miller

To suffer fifty weeks of the year for the sake of a two-week vacation, when all you really desire is to be outdoors, with your shirt off.

And The Lord Said...

And the Lord said...
'I wish you all stop bothering me.
Pestering me with your foolishness.
Do you think I have time to waste...
Listening to your complaints,
And pettiness day in and night too?
Do you realize I am tired...
Of all the crap you all want to dump,
In my lap?
Do not call upon me again for two weeks!
I am on a much needed vacation! '

~The Lord did not say that to you! ~

Didn't we agree that God spoke to each
And everyone of us in strange and mysterious ways?

~Yeah...
True that!
But the Lord did not say that to you.
'Cause He told me to ignore you,
Anytime you wanted to quote what He said.
And for me not to take you to Vegas...
Since you always trying to put words in His mouth!
And He's going to deal with you,
When He comes back from a vacation...
Near the Greek Islands! ~

Why are you lieing?
I know for a fact,
He has taken two weeks a year...
Every year for centuries.
To do clean up work behind hypocrites like you!

~And who are you calling a hypocrite?
I am closer to God than you are! ~

No you're not!

~Yes I am! ~

No, you're not!

~Yes I am! ~

'AND this is what I have to listen to...
24/7! Seven days a week!
365 days a year!
Over and over and over and over...'

Necessary Artistic Deletions

deleted approximately fifty good draft seed poems
not because they were bad but because were too good
each could have born fruit to ten twenty thirty poems

this would take days a week a few weeks writing out
in total months a year a year of full fool time writing
time gap economy denies artistry an extensive write out

That Fifty Year Old Woman

That fifty year old woman
she is someones mother
that fifty year old woman
she is someones lover
them fifty years of her life
unseen by a cover.

Covered by the leaves
from the autumn trees is the grass
surrounded by blue tape
and nosey people who pretend to pass
a group of actors walk by
they have come from a history class
to make history new
with conversation with questions to ask.

A fifty year old woman
in an autumn so cold
a fifty year old woman
seen dark winter unfold
them fifty years of life
it is all we are told.

The actors, they didn't get any information
they did not get pictures
nothing known about the situation
nothing at all to discuss
fifty years of age is all thats said
on the morning paper on the fifty bus
thats all thats said
a fifty year old woman, shes found dead.

That fifty year old woman
shes not someones mother
that fifty year old woman
how she had no lover
them fifty years of life
unseen by a cover.

That fifty year old woman
she was quoted in the paper today
that fifty year old woman will be gone tomorrow
the writers they will show no sorrow
because its the way things work
as people pass
she no longer lies on grass
shes covered in dirt.

Yeah, about sixteen to twenty weeks a year. For example, we can do America in six or seven weeks. You can do Europe in three weeks; England in two weeks. South America you could do in three weeks; Asia you could do in three weeks.

Come on in My Kitchen

You better come on into my kitchen,
Cause its sure to be raining outdoors.
When a womans in trouble,
Everybody puts her down
She look for her good man,
Lord he cant be found.
You better come on
Into my kitchen,
Cause its going to be raining outdoors.
Theres a cold wind blowin,
Leaves tremblin on the trees,
Dont you know that that good girl
Ya shes leaving me.
You better come on
Into my kitchen,
Cause its going to be raining outdoors.
The woman Ive been lovin
Left with my best friend,
That joker got lucky,
Stole her back again.
You better come on
Into my kitchen,
Cause its going to be raining outdoors.
Well that good girls leaving,
She aint coming back,
Took her last nickel from her notion sack
You better come on
Into my kitchen,
Cause its going to be raining outdoors.
Mamas dead and gone,
Fathers no wheres to be,
I aint got nobody
To love and care for me.
You better come on
Into my kitchen,
Cause its going to be raining outdoors.
Yes, its going to be raining outdoors.
Yes, its going to be raining outdoors.

8 Weeks

8 weeks to live
8 weeks to die
8 weeks is all they had
8 weeks to do the things they never did
8 weeks of fighting
8 weeks of trying to fit everything in
8 weeks of pain, suffering, and confusion
8 weeks of faking a smile
8 weeks of repetition
8 weeks of knowing they were nearing the end
8 weeks of love from friends and family
8 weeks…the shortest/longest, most hurtful/helpful weeks of their lives
8 weeks later…knowing they’ll never be able to do the things they’ve always wanted to
8 weeks later…now realizing he’ll never see her walk, at graduation nor down the aisle
8 weeks later…close friends and family now in shambles
8 weeks later…close friends and family never closer
8 weeks later…here we are

The last three weeks are:

House On A Cliff

Indoors the tang of a tiny oil lamp. Outdoors
The winking signal on the waste of sea.
Indoors the sound of the wind. Outdoors the wind.
Indoors the locked heart and the lost key.

Outdoors the chill, the void, the siren. Indoors
The strong man pained to find his red blood cools,
While the blind clock grows louder, faster. Outdoors
The silent moon, the garrulous tides she rules.

Indoors ancestral curse-cum-blessing. Outdoors
The empty bowl of heaven, the empty deep.
Indoors a purposeful man who talks at cross
Purposes, to himself, in a broken sleep.

Playing cards

Half of them are nights;
The other half are days.
They are in total fifty-two,
Equal to weeks of a year.
They are in four groups,
Representing four seasons.
Numbers of each card
And Jokers added, come
To total days of the year.
Playing cards are made
After ‘time’ to kill your time.

Zig Zags Rolling Another One

She came home today from her vacation with an attitude
Told me she was leaving me for good
Said her love had died since she’d been gone
Now it was time for her to be moving on….
Then she asked me for the car keys and fifty bucks
Twenty five years of marriage and all she wanted
was fifty bucks and the keys to the car…
She won’t get far…

I Want A Vacation

I want a vacation
For saying a word or two to you
See the moon just when
It lands in your eyes.
I want a vacation
To hold your hands for a while
And walk a few steps to anywhere,
To feel you even if for a moment.
I want a vacation
Just to do anything
To let you know I still care
And see a smile cross your face.
I need a vacation
For coming out from within
To be with you just once
And hold onto it forever!

A week, a month, a year

How long is this waiting?
A week, a month, a year
I can’t count the days anymore

How long is this yearning?
A week, a month, a year
I barely feel the difference

How long is this goodbye?
A week, a month, a year
Is the end is forever?

The Old Padre and the Tarpon

with apologies to Hemingway

Beyond the frippery and folderol
of bishops and the like,
Father Murphy's on vacation
with just a week to cast
for bigger fish than pike.

And so he sails the peaceful bay
casting every kind of bait,
praying that a tarpon
suddenly will strike.
Hook the big one, Father claims,

and it will thrash around
as if Satan were a submarine
cruising in its wake.
A fish that big, claims Father,
is always worth the wait

for it guarantees an aging priest,
with just a week's vacation,
action and distraction from
the frippery and folderol
of bishops and the like.

No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems

Ive been up to my neck workin 6 days a week
Wearin holes into the shoes on my feet
Been dreamin of gettin away since I dont know
Aint no better time than now..for mexico
No shoes, no shirt, no problems
Blues what blues..hey I forgot them
The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom
And no shirt, no shirt, and no problems!
No problems
Want a towel on a chair in the sand by the sea
Want to look thru my shades and see you there with me
Want to soak up life for a while
In laid back mode
No boss, no polite, no stress, no dress code
No shoes, no shirt, no problems
Blues what blues hey I forgot them
The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom
And no shoes, no shirt, and no problems
Babe lets get packed..tank tops and flip flops if u got them
No shoes, no shirt, no problems
No problems.
