As Governor, I could think of only one way to unify our State that was made up of so many different climates, political beliefs and people, and that was our music.

I am not prejudiced against the Negro. When I was governor, I did more to help the Negroes in our State than any previous Governor, and I think you can find Negro leaders in the State who will attest to this fact.

For the introduction of a new kind of music must be shunned as imperiling the whole state; since styles of music are never disturbed without affecting the most important political institutions.
If you're a governor of a big state, people sense your presence a little bit, even your fellow governors.

The whole thing was done for internal political reasons to galvanize and unify the country against the Americans, and if they hadn't had that immediate opportunity they would have found another one.

I think it's already apparent that a good part of this Nation understands — if only instinctively — that anything which seems to suggest that God favors a political party or the establishment of a state church, is wrong and dangerous. Way down deep the American people are afraid of an entangling relationship between formal religions — or whole bodies of religious belief — and government. Apart from constitutional law and religious doctrine, there is a sense that tells us it's wrong to presume to speak for God or to claim God's sanction of our particular legislation and His rejection of all other positions. Most of us are offended when we see religion being trivialized by its appearance in political throw-away pamphlets. The American people need no course in philosophy or political science or church history to know that God should not be made into a celestial party chairman.

With a library you are free, not confined by temporary political climates. It is the most democratic of institutions because no one - but no one at all - can tell you what to read and when and how.

The basic fault lines today are not between people with different beliefs but between people who hold these beliefs with an element of uncertainty and people who hold these beliefs with a pretense of certitude.

We are free, but not to be evil, not to be indifferent to human suffering, not to profit from the people, from the work created and sustained through their spirit of political association, while refusing to contribute to the political state that we profit from.

The whole community of people with disabilities was alive, politically alive. I give Justin Dart credit for that. He traveled to every state in the country. He really made people with disabilities understand that they had some political power.

Selfish Isolation
They believe what has been stolen,
From wicked beginnings...
Belongs to them.
Declaring with documents,
Who has rights...
To live the kind of life they like.
And using their injustices,
To rule upon others' land.
With weapons that defend their 'interests'...
With a firm and upper,
Rusting...
Corrupted hand.
With divisions they've inflicted,
They insist a united front exists!
But even with their greed afflictions...
Their beliefs aren't to unify.
As depicted by the turmoil...
They let persist to the bitter end.
And now their conflicts...
Have come to reflect,
A selfish isolation!
With a total disrespect.
And a regret that faces them!
Pray they do,
But it's too late.
For a fate that awaits their sins.
This is what happens to folks who aspire...
To rule with a might.
Only God declares and protects...
When He alone is in their sight!
And political divisions,
Are not what God envisions!

You know, my dad served in the President's Cabinet after his time as a governor. He told me he enjoyed being governor a lot more. Now, I understand why. If I do my job well, I can make a difference in people's lives and I can help our children realize their dreams.

Governor's Mansion
In Oklahoma where state pride reigns supreme
From the Governor's Mansion to football fields
This new state has much moxie and excitement
Where much beauty is available for windshields
We all worked together and made our Mansion
That special place to host goverment with pride
Walls filled with history and early day memories
Items that will serve future Okies as their guide
