I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are.

But when we came out of camp, that's when I first realized that being in camp, that being Japanese-American, was something shameful.

I Have To Leave

I came to camp here
On the riverside
Overlooking the mountain
Where I would say ho
And it would reverberate.
I had no companion
Till every morning
The birds woke me up
And made friends
I had no lover
Till the moon's silver
Crowned the ripples
And made love
I never knew
When quietly they came
And dug into me!
Now I don't want to
Leave the camp
My dreams don't spin
Tales of other world anymore!
I came to camp here
I have to wind up and leave.

Many of our soldiers are stationed at Camp Coyote just south of the Iraqi border. This is how you know we have a strong army, when you can actually tell your enemy exactly where your camp is and what its name is.

Simple Simon

Simon found love, in love he thinks he found himself
Only has a heart for her and her alone
He walks down crowded streets and doesn't feel alone
Oh, never alone
Walks in space with his feet firmly on the ground
Camp on love sign people I talk about
Johnny knows love song people I talk about
Simon, oh oh oh
Simon, oh oh oh
Camp on love sign people I talk about
Johnny knows love song people I talk about
Simon, oh oh oh
Simon, oh oh oh
Well she's just a simple girl, yeah
Spends her time on crossword games and cigarettes, ah
She lives all alone in a military zone where sam's can't get in
Facts and evidence, she probably give you no clues away
No clues away
Camp on love sign people I talk about
Johnny knows love song people I talk about
Simon, oh oh oh
Simon, oh oh oh
Camp on love sign people I talk about
Johnny knows love song people I talk about
Simon, oh oh oh
Simon, oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh
Camp on love sign people I talk about
Johnny knows love song people I talk about

Camp on love sign people I talk about
Johnny knows love song people I talk about

There Is Something Really Wrong About That

There's something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
There is something really wrong about that!
They're not based in truth of action.
Something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
Absent is the truth of action.
Nothing is said about that.

There is something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
There's something really wrong about that!
They're not based in truth of action.
Something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
Absent is the truth of action.
Nothing is said about that.

Truth has been manipulated.
Something is wrong about that!

And people now themselves they hate.
Something is wrong about that!

Racism is the indicator.
Something is wrong about that!

And how one lives is too debated.
Something is wrong about that!

There is something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
There's something really wrong about that!
They're not based in truth of action.
Something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
Absent is the truth of action.
Nothing is said about that.

We've all been underestimated.
Something is wrong about that!
The thoughts of people are degraded.
Something is wrong about that!
Deceivers seem too much elated.
Something is wrong about that!
And truth for us has been created...
With an ease that's made..

Oh there's something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
There is something really wrong about that!
They're not based in truth of action.
Something really wrong about that!
Those facts you ration.
Absent is the truth of action.
Nothing is said about that.

Something's really wrong about it.
Where are the facts?
Something's really wrong about this.
Who erased the facts?

Something's really wrong about it.
Where are the facts?
Something's really wrong about this.
Who erased the facts?

Oh there's something really wrong about that!
Who is hiding facts?
Oh there's something really wrong about that!
Keeping truth from action.
Oh there's something really wrong about that!
Who is hiding facts?
Oh there's something really wrong about that!
Keeping truth from action.
Oh there's something really wrong about that!
Who is hiding facts?
And why are facts held back?

The truth has been eliminated.
Something is wrong about that.
The truth has been eliminated.
Something is wrong about that.
The truth has been eliminated.
Something is wrong about that.
The truth has been eliminated.
Something is wrong about that.

We all laughed. It was more like that whole thing that I was talking about earlier. You go to training camp and after the season is over, you might not see the guys for six months until you go back to training camp.

In the last camp they all ate grass, until the authorities forbade them to pull it up. They were accustomed to having the fruits of their little communal gardens stolen by the guards, after they had done all the work; but at the last camp everything was stolen.

Poem-aid de camp

My aid de camp
My poem
There is fear of
Coup d' etat.

I'm at
Daggers drawn
With myself
It's the poem
That rescue me.

My poem
My aid de camp.

Where are They Now?

Where are the bunkhouses
Where they once washed up - ate - slept
Where is the work we used to have for them
Where is the next freight train out of town

Where are the freight trains
They used to jump on and off
To get to the next work camp
The next job -the next hobo camp -

The last train pulled out
Of our abandoned station long ago
They're stuck in our town with
No jobs - homeless under a bridge

Poets are almost always wrong about facts. That's because they are not really interested in facts: only in truth: which is why the
truth they speak is so true that even those who hate poets by simple and natural instinct are exalted and terrified by it.

We Battle To See Acts Of Love

You can battle any illness you wish...
But,
Battle with the act of love.

You can fill you mind with terrorists...
That keep your fears endearing.
But the fact your battles fought have no love.

And don't you know that you...
The giving up of anything,
Will return.
So why not battle with the act of love.

Burdens carried on one's back,
Seem to be attached...
'Cause they don't do their,
Battles with love.

Those who pick their battles,
Pick their battles without facts.
'Cause many have no protected love.

If there is love,
There is a battle...
But the battle can be won,
With a love that's felt in everyone.

Those who pick their battles,
Pick their battles without facts.
'Cause many have no protected love.

You can battle any illness you wish...
But,
Battle with the act of love.

You can battle any illness you wish...
But,
Battle with the act of love.

Those who pick their battles,
Pick their battles without facts.
'Cause many have no protected love.

Those who pick their battles,
Pick their battles without facts.
'Cause many have no protected love.

If we pick our battles,
We must be matter of fact....
That we battle to see acts of love.

We battle to see acts of love.
Let's say we do it...
That we battle to see acts of love!

Arbeit Macht Frei

Which means work sets you free.
That bears at the entrance of Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp.
How does it fades the holocaust in the poor human memory?
The memorial day is commemorated internationally January 27, the anniversary of the date of the Liberation, the death camp in 1945.
Nowadays in the whole World Men were out of work
And I think of the infamous phrase 'Work sets you free.'

*My regards to the couplet Alison & Jerry.

Bagging Kid Charlemagne

You cannot see the upper reaches of Everest
from the base camp, where you acclimatize
with attitude and finger exercises.

In starting your embrace of the peak,
You must move with an almost monotonous precision,
perfecting each phrase, bend, hammer, and lift-off,
owning each measure before moving
across hours to Camp Two,
then Camp Three,
each section with its hurdles and mazes,
your mind bobbing like a pigeon’s head
searching for the path

After Camp Four
and across the Hillary Step
with the Kid’s summit in sight
your fingers fluid and rippling,
repeating impossible runs
until they can be sold as easy,
you’re at once focused and disjointed
as if watching yourself play in a film
while you’re playing in the film,
or maybe your brain
is oxygen-deprived
knowing you are so close,
a single ascending line to go

And when you finally summit
you pass through a golden turnstile
and look down from rare air
feeling a bond with the masters
and all you can do to underscore the feat
is tenderly put the guitar down
and lean your head way back on the couch
until you are looking straight up

Note: Rolling Stone magazine called Larry Carlton’s “Kid Charlemagne” solo (from Steely Dan’s 'Royal Scam' album) “one of the three greatest rock guitar solos ever.”

You Dont Have To Camp Around

Daddy dont like it but mommy still wonders, sweet boy
But youre allowed to try it and I point no fingers
Sweet boy, but Im still wonderin what it means, boy
You hold your wrist so limply
You dont have to camp around
Save all your money, go confess on sunday, sweet boy
And you get your copy of honey,
Back on the street by monday
Sweet boy, but tell me where does that leave me, boy
Save the satin undies, dont pluck out your eyebrows
Stow the mincey lisping, you dont have to camp around
