There are now grandmothers and grandfathers coming to see us because they are of that age, they grew up in the '50s and '60s and they bring their sons and their daughters to hear the songs they heard when they were young.

Sons And Daughters

There's a place in the city they call the Archway
Where we rented three rooms for a dollar a day
and I worked semi-skilled at the capstans for years
And my wife was a good woman but the love disappeared
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
When a marriage goes down they're the loneliest ones
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
How I hope they can cope with the damage I've done
I found me a band, I went out on tour
So the kids wouldn't know I was with them no more
When they said, "Where's me dad?" She'd say, "He's a star!"
Oh if only stars knew what fools they all are.
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
When a marriage goes down they're the loneliest ones
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
How I hope they can cope with the damage I've done
I got a new contract, I got a new life
No more capstans for me and I've got a new wife
Sometimes she gets angry, says she wants a family
Then that nightmare returns like a ghost haunting me
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
When a marriage breaks up you're the loneliest ones
Sons and Daughters, Daughters and Sons
How I hope you all cope with the damage we done

Let The River Run

(the new jerusalem)
Were coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.
Let the river run,
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation.
Come, the new jerusalem.
Silver cities rise,
The morning lights
The streets that meet them,
And sirens call them on
With a song.
Its asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.
Were coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.
We the great and small
Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
Through the darkning dawn.
Its asking for the taking.
Come run with me now,
The sky is the color of blue
Youve never even seen
In the eyes of your lover.
Oh, my heart is aching.
Were coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.
Its asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.
Were coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.
Let the river run,
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation.
Come, the new jerusalem.

The Pride of Parents

Parents of sons and daughters,
Of their fame, grew proud.
Minded not by men who throng
Their sons and daughters,
Parents went pale of their pride.

The Dark Belongs to the Feral Ones

A lone assistant, an all-night stand
Somebody's daughters and somebody's sons
Flash of a blade behind a door
The dark belongs to the feral ones

Mayhem & menace, muggings & fear
Somebody's daughters and somebody's sons
Drugs and litter and fights, and beer
The dark belongs to the feral ones

Boots that stamp on a victim's face
Somebody's daughters and somebody's sons
Is it the fault of blood, or place?
The dark belongs to the feral ones

Gym-slip bride in her council flat
Somebody's daughters and somebody 's sons
She's the local hoodies' welcome mat
The dark belongs to the feral ones

Speed and jellies and hash and smack
Somebody's daughters and somebody's sons
Dealers in playgrounds pushing crack
The dark belongs to the feral ones

Gangs, graffiti and poxed-up sex
Somebody's daughters and somebody's sons
Smash society..clear its decks
The dark belongs to the feral ones

I Came From...

i came from moonlight,
my grandfathers were great trees.
my grandmothers sudden gusts of wind,
that came from nowhere and returned.
my mother was a wolf,
my father the hard trodden path.
my sisters brought the rain,
my brothers the bow and the arrow.
my lovers made of shadows,
my enemies demons that haunt.
i am the fire tended
by hands unseen,
the saw and the axe.
i will return on a coming night,
the pine needles will hear my feet.
for i am the sound within thunder,
and the hand that catches lightning!

We Salute You Gallant Sons And Daughters Of The Soil

Gallant sons and daughters of the soil, hail heros, we salute you
for the tremendous and outrageous job you did in restoration of the lost glory and hope, FREEDOM...

We salute you gallant sons and daughters of the soil for putting
your lives at risk and the sacrifise
you made in restoring our legacy,
from our fore fathers.

We salute you gallant sons and daughters of the soils, today we
are enjoying the fruits of your sacrifise and dedication of your
lives just to restore the legacy
heritage and freedom which we
enjoy today....

Freedom was born out of bloodshed of the gallant sons and daughters of the soil, freedom was
born out of the armed struggle, we
salute you gallant sons and daughters of the soil..

We salute you gallant sons and daughters of the soil, thank you
for restoring the glory, heritage
and legacy which had been robbed from us! !

Hail gallant sons and daughters
of the soil, they exchanged freedom with the blood which
the spilt in the process of restoring the lost prestige and glory, heritage..

We salute you gallant sons and daughters of the soil for breaking
down the iron york from our necks granting us solace, you did
all this out of love and loyalty.

We salute you gallant sons and daughters of the soil for the enduarance, dedication you made
in bringing freedom and the lost
heritage, through the wire and many challenges you met, but you
risked your lives to bring freedom..

Today we enjoy the fruits of the
armed struggle which brought freedom, revolution completed
its course we are enjoying the fruits of the armed struggle
we salute you gallant sons and daughters of the soil may your
soul rest in peace

dedication to the gallant sons and
daughters of the soil of zimbabwe who lost their lives in the process of fighting for freedom..

We two were one as sons,
A pair as brothers, two as fathers
And aliens as grandfathers
In our relation as we grew up.
The time will dilute the relation.

Family of War

Every morning I awake I fall to my knees and pray.
God, please make the war in Iraq come to end.
There are too many fathers and sons come home
in pine boxes. There are too many mothers and daughters
doing the same. Leaving behind fathers and sons mothers
and daughter with a last memory of them waving goodbye.
There is too much blood and tears of fathers and sons mothers
and daughters being shed all in the name of peace.
God please let our leaders see how many families are dying
and that war can never bring peace. Only love can.
This prayer is my gun and God you’re the bullet I’m shooting
to end this Family of War.

We Share Our Grandfathers! !

The land of mine, where my greatest of all grandfathers had matured,
There he played with my equally old grandmother, he clamored,
We all prayed to the same Gods who have been kept,
In the palatial temples, built with the salt of their sweat,
A capped man arrived six hundred years ago,
With the notion of spreading his belief on our soil,
Earlier a confused Hindu Prince, who was a coward,
Afraid of sickness and old age, suddenly enlightened,
Under the tree of pothy and talked about our doctrines,
With out mentioning the names of his Gods and attested,
As a God himself and safely sitting in hearts of many,
We should agree that we have flaws but our religion is good,
We should agree that our elders tortured the people,
In the name of caste and other customs and rituals,
Then came many sectors of Hinduism, a few of our grandfathers,
Who were so poor, believed in everything that was mystic,
And thought conversion could bring them wealth,
They have started to practice the home grown religions at first,
The dynasty, was so cruel and killed our grandfathers in mass,
Destroyed our beautiful temples to the ground,
We had to hide our Gods under the ground,
Still our priests have done the prayers silently,
Without ringing the bells and our women,
Started to cover the head as our converted grandmothers did,
For more than two centuries the men with the cap and crown,
Had messed up our land and married our grandmothers,
Who were Hindu Princes and beautiful innocent ladies,

Then a company came, pretending to do the business,
Cultivated opium and marketed in China,
The drugged Chinese became helpless and gave up,
Hong Kong for ninety nine years for the drug debt,
Along this company came the missionaries,
Not from Middle East, but from Europe and Vatican,
To display what they had and they had a mother and a child,
Our grandparents were excited with the new photos,
That attached with a few kilograms of wheat and milk,
The company's intelligence spread the thorny plants,
Across our region to buy the land at cheaper cents,
Where our young girls had cut off their hair,
And become nuns to spread the teaching of love,
We have the houses of worship everywhere,
Where we pray to our Gods of many faces,
When we look at our brothers and sisters,
Who are holding the books and rosaries,
Still we think of our grandfathers,
What ever our brothers and sister believe,
We treat them as one of us,
They are one of us now and always.
They could have forgotten their roots,
We still remember the days that our grandfathers,
Grouped together to build those temples,
That still stands as majestic as the Sun,
At one place, the planets go around it,
Let them be anything. They are our still brothers,
and sisters and we share the same grandfathers.

Hot Water

Tell - me something
Why do I always find it hard just to get along
Try my best - for nothing
Every little thing I do is wrong
Feel it in my brain
Driving me insane
Round and round
The same old tune
Daddys on the phone
You know youre not alone
Turn that down
And clean up your room.
Sons and daughters
(dont fall in)
In hot water
Sons and daughters
(they dont do)
What they oughta
Tell (tell) you something
Music is the key to set me free
To the beat (on the street) Im jumping
Forgetting all the things they said bout me
Here it comes again
Chugging like a train
Round and round
An impeccable groove
I know its getting late
But I wont histate
Cant slow down
Got to do what I do
Sons and daughters
(always in)
In hot water
Wasting time
Is a crime in their eyes
But Im still young
So much time to decide - what to do ...
(I dont need confirmation
For my boyhood extrapolation
Though Im not sure of my direction
I have the groove for my protection)
Here it comes again
Chugging like a train
Round and round
An impeccable groove
I know its getting late
But I wont hesitate
Cant slow down
Got to do what I do
Sons and daughters
(dont fall in)
In hot water
(when they fall by the way)
Sons and daughters
(they dont do)
What they oughta
Tell me something
Where you staying tonight
Your folks
Have waited up for you
Now theyve locked the door
And turned off the light.

Not Against Anybody

I have clarified clear
If you are going to say
I feel painful to hear.

Animals birds fishes all are
My brothers and sisters
We are all sons daughters of
His Highness
All are sons and daughters of
This soil Mother Earth.

I respect shared value
I respect human value
I respect natural law
We are all matured man
Of this latest century
It is not good to think
Otherwise at any point of time
At any place against anybody.

The Barn Dance

they came from here and there
across fields and along country lanes
by car on foot and by bicycle
to the red barn for the annual dance
country folk young and old
grandfathers and grandmothers
set for a night of socialising
some under the weather and a few
townies hunting a bit of romance
malodgins fiddles tin whistles
and a few aspiring mccormacks
and delia murphy's added to the warmth
of the occasion while outside a starry
sky witnessed to the encroachment
of a heavy frost

Were Sons Of Our Fathers

it seems that family values have changed since I was a kid, at least I remember it that way...
When I grow up to be a man
Like my father was when I was young
I hope I can make him so proud of me
Proud enough to call me his son
What makes these people so different now
What makes these times so strange?
Seems most people got most everything they need
How come we see this change
Our sons and daughters seem to be beyond our control
Their smile is fading fast, theyre losing their soul
When will we ever learn, yet Im a believer
When I was a boy, did we have more respect?
This world seemed a nicer place to be
But time slowly passes and one day you look around
You hardly recognise what you see
Our sons and daughters seem to be beyond our control
Their smile is fading fast, theyre losing their soul
Now when will we ever learn, yet Im a believer
Theyre beyond our control
Were all sons of our fathers
Sometimes I feel like mine
And I can hear him say, the things I say
Seems all things come around in time
Why these things happen well never know
Guess that was then and this is now
We always knew that change was gonna come
But I want to go back, please tell me how
Our sons and daughters seem to be beyond our control
Their smile is fading fast, theyre losing their soul
When will we ever learn, yet Im a believer

Light of Peace Vavroovahana Patra

Light of peace pervades in a lovely family;
All family members live gladly.
Love reigns in the family;
Parents live peacefully.

Flower of peace blooms in a good family;
Daughters and sons live gaily.
Obey the advices of parents daily;
With fraternity brothers live cheerfully.

Daughters regard parent’s advices silently;
Rose of love blossoms in the garden of family naturally.
All live beneath the veil of Divine mother;
Singing devotional songs live with pleasure.

Family is a school of education;
Is mother’s beauteous creation.
Education begins in the family;
Obeying parents, sons and daughters live pleasantly.

Peace provides fraternity;
Lovely daughters, sons live with gaiety.
Peaceful family is a Heaven on Earth;
All members live with mirth.

Why We Tell Stories

For Linda Foster

I
Because we used to have leaves
and on damp days
our muscles feel a tug,
painful now, from when roots
pulled us into the ground

and because our children believe
they can fly, an instinct retained
from when the bones in our arms
were shaped like zithers and broke
neatly under their feathers

and because before we had lungs
we knew how far it was to the bottom
as we floated open-eyed
like painted scarves through the scenery
of dreams, and because we awakened

and learned to speak

2
We sat by the fire in our caves,
and because we were poor, we made up a tale
about a treasure mountain
that would open only for us

and because we were always defeated,
we invented impossible riddles
only we could solve,
monsters only we could kill,
women who could love no one else
and because we had survived
sisters and brothers, daughters and sons,
we discovered bones that rose
from the dark earth and sang
as white birds in the trees

3
Because the story of our life
becomes our life

Because each of us tells
the same story
but tells it differently

and none of us tells it
the same way twice

Because grandmothers looking like spiders
want to enchant the children
and grandfathers need to convince us
what happened happened because of them

and though we listen only
haphazardly, with one ear,
we will begin our story
with the word and

Coming Home To Your Heart

I'm coming I'm coming home
To your heart
(Really don't know where I heard this)
I'm coming back with every step
To hear you play the drums of beauty
Oh you do it well
I'm coming close with every touch
To make some place for clouds to sway
To make some room for birds to sing
To hear you say it'll be ok
Just some more love for us to bring
I travel far I travel far
To find your smile in every smile
I'm coming back I'm coming back
Back to your beautiful heart
