This sort of encouragement is vital for any writer. And lastly the publication of Touching the Flame, which was on hold for two years and went through a few publishers before finding a stable home.

I do feel very strongly that this is one of the things which people need encouragement to sort out, because I have this very strong feeling that everybody is probably a genius at something, it's just a question of finding this.

Paperback Writer

(LennonMcCartney)
Paperback writer
Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book?
It took me years to write, will you take a look?
It's based on a novel by a man named Lear
And I need a job, so I want to be a paperback writer
Paperback writer
It's the dirty story of a dirty man
And his clinging wife doesn't understand
His son is working for the Daily Mail
It's a steady job but he wants to be a paperback writer
Paperback writer
Paperback writer
It's a thousand pages, give or take a few
I'll be writing more in a week or two
I can make it longer if you like the style
I can change it round and I want to be a paperback writer
Paperback writer
If you really like it you can have the rights
It could make a million for you overnight
If you must return it, you can send it here
But I need a break and I want to be a paperback writer

Touching

Touching are words expressed,
When hearts are filled with such emptiness.

Touching is that lost contact,
We long to hold and feel against our chests.

Touching are the flow of memories,
Coming when someone has left.

So touching we are when those times arrive.
And touching we wish,
To be done when the end comes.
As tears are cried.

And those with touching emotions,
Felt with sighs...
Inside.
Rising to surface...
Are not found to be at their best.
When wept!

Odd, the years it took to learn one simple fact: that the prize just ahead, the next job, publication, love affair, marriage always seemed to hold the key to satisfaction but never, in the longer run, sufficed.

I would advise any beginning writer to write the first drafts as if no one else will ever read them - without a thought about publication - and only in the last draft to consider how the work will look from the outside.

Finding it-LOVE

Finding it is so hard and is rare
Finding it sometimes takes years
Finding it is something that should be handled with care
Finding it can bring you laughter instead of tears
Finding it can make you happy and free
Finding it can open the LOVE in your heart
Finding it will open your eyes to see

That one you do find it, you will see it has done its part

Love A Mortal Who Writes

This be a farce dictation.
But then,
Love a being who writes

Because a writer
Is a liar.

I will lie about how the
Night flames with the warm waters
But you will never believe me
For I am a liar
With a pen and a paper.

Love a writer
For a writer is a soldier
Regardless of state:
A drunken soldier.
An arrogant soldier.
A morose soldier.
A burning soldier.
Whichever.

Love him
For he is a liar.

He is a prolix garden
Of petty things.
He makes the moon an empire,
And the Sun, an asylum.

He will lie about certain things
With sheer beauty
That none of you
Can contain.

Why love a liar, you might ask?
Listen to a painter as he lies
And he will guise himself with
A shallow palette of colors.
Listen to a businessman lie,
And he will be easily defeated
In a warfare of witticism.
Listen to a doctor lie
But then again, science cannot
Feign states or even a love.

And you can think of any other
Occupation that holds a lie,
And I will tell you

That we are all mortals
Capable of erring,
Of lying.

A mortal who writes elegantly
Will tell an elegant lie -
That is sure.
But then,
The world of mendacity
Is a thing that he loathes.

He will come to his senses
And stop lying.

Love a being who writes
For he is a liar -

A liar turned one
Because of many other lies.

A writer can hold a flame
Without getting his hands burned.
A writer can swim through
Oceans of filth
And not drown.
A writer can go on a warfare
With only himself / herself alone
And that is what
The others lack.
A chivalry of the heart,
The mind,
And soul.

For the world that lies
Behind the verses from
A flamboyant tongue
Will appear a lie to some,

But to those who can read
Adeptly, will take these
As genuinely stable truths.

Love a mortal who writes,
For a mortal who exudes
Confidences in pen and paper
Will learn the ways
Of mendaciloquence

And change his
Or her
Ways

And tell you
All the truths
That you take
As lies.

I Don't Think I Will Ever Learn To Be Humble

I don't think I will ever learn to be humble-
After so many years of rejection,
After so many failed efforts at publication,
After so much self- publication,
And in its wake
So little enthusiasm for my work,
After so much pushing of myself
And so little response to that pushing
After so much trying again and again
Over nearly fifty years,
I still write and attempt to push myself forward,
As if there still will come a vindication
A revelation and total transformation
In the way my work is seen-
It appears I will die then as a wannabe,
Still pushing still dreaming still believing
I should be what clearly I am not-
I will never learn to be humble-
I will carry to the grave
My own exaggerated idea of the worth
Of my work and the value of myself.
I will go down to the grave
The fool of my own dream
A lifelong failure.

To Have And Not To Hold

To have and not to hold
So hot yet so cold
My heart is in your hand
And yet you never stand
Close enough for me
to have my way
To love but not to keep
To laugh not to weep
Your eyes they go right through
And yet you never do
Anything to make me want to stay
Like a moth to a flame
Only I am to blame
Ba ba da ba ba ba
What can I do
Ba ba da ba ba ba
I go straight to you
Ba ba da ba ba ba
I've been told
You're to have
Not to hold
To look but not to see
To kiss but never be
The object of your desire
I'm walking on a wire
And there's no one at all
To break my fall
Like a moth to a flame
Only I am to blame
Ba ba da ba ba ba
What can I do
Ba ba da ba ba ba
I go straight to you
Ba ba da ba ba ba
I've been told
You're to have
Not to hold
You're to have not to hold
You're to have not to hold
Like a moth to a flame
Only I am to blame
Ba ba da ba ba ba
What can I do
Ba ba da ba ba ba
I go straight to you
Ba ba da ba ba ba
I've been told
You're to have
Not to hold
You're to have not to hold
You're to have not to hold
You're to have not to hold

Carried Away

Once again
I lie awake at night in storyland
I'm slippin' away
Understand
Just to escape I run to hope
Still light years away

I'm sinking in the sand
I'm gonna take your hand
you gotta understand

I'm carried away
Your eternal flame
Don't blow it out
You gotta leave it on
I'm carried away
I'm finding my faith
Goes on and on
I'm really getting a carried away

Never fall
Into the world of someone calling out
A mirror inside
Is telling' me you're just a breath away from doubt
And you wake in the night

I'm sinking in the sand
I'm gonna take your hand
You gotta understand

I'm carried away
Your eternal flame
Don't blow it out
You gotta leave it on
I'm carried away
I'm finding my faith
Goes on and on
I'm really getting carried away

'Cos I can go on this time
In my way
'Cos I believe all my prayers

I'm carried away carried away

Your eternal flame
Don't blow it out
You gotta leave it on
I'm carried away
I'm finding my faith
Goes on and on
I'm really getting carried away

Miracle

Deeper than deeper was my love for you
Sweeter than sweeter joy
Hoping that every day
You can go your way
I cannot hold you down
Turning the situation round a little more
Making it look like things
Are just fine
You can go your way
Shudder to think these words were mine
Touching the place that makes it a love thing
Straight to the face, one way love would be a miracle
Touching the place that makes it a love thing
Straight to the face, one way love would be a miracle
Dreamily passing by
Words sort of come and go
Wasting the time of day
I dont know
Dont you smile that way?
Smiling is all Ive got left for you
You can go your way
You can go your way
Touching the place that makes it a love thing
Straight to the face, one way love would be a miracle
Touching the place that makes it a love thing
Straight to the face, one way love would be a miracle
Touching the place that makes it a love thing
Straight to the face, one way love would be a miracle
Touching the place that makes it a love thing
Straight to the face, one way love would be a miracle
Touching the place that makes it a love thing
Straight to the face, one way love would be a miracle

Touch

Thank you
Dont mention it
Im pleased to meet you
Dont think Im very good at this
Let me show
I dont wanna know
I just wanna go (down)
F-f-falling...the world is by your side
Falling...did you find a place to hide
I just wanna know
I just wanna go
T-t-touching you
T-t-touching you
T-t-touching you
She said, the twenty second floor
But I said, I cant think what its for
I just wanna know
I dont wanna go
T-t-touching you
T-t-touching you
T-t-touching you
Im t-t-touching you

Nothing us but only in between us

In finding you
I find me, in looking for you
You look for me, so in finding you finding me,
We finally find out, there is nothing us but only
You and me finding you and me, there is really

No us, just some things between us, always finding
You and me finding you always finding two

Not one, nothing one, but always two, a separate
You finding me and me finding you in this search in futility
