I slept just floating in the middle of the flight deck, the upper deck of the space shuttle.

Deck Of Cards

a deck of cards
missing the Jack of Hearts....
a revolver on the table,

one chamber empty...
an old family Bible,
the inscription page torn out...

a broken pane in the window
that the sun never hits.
a bottle of whiskey,

half empty, or half full.
an old rug by the chair,
that the dog slept on.

a grandfather clock,
hand stuck at midnight...
an old truck, broken axle....

a deck of cards...
your deal!

Casabianca

Love's the boy stood on the burning deck
trying to recite `The boy stood on
the burning deck.' Love's the son
stood stammering elocution
while the poor ship in flames went down.

Love's the obstinate boy, the ship,
even the swimming sailors, who
would like a schoolroom platform, too,
or an excuse to stay
on deck. And love's the burning boy.

Better Sleep.

Suddenly it’s so tired that made me felt asleep.
Laid on deck no feeling slowly slept so deep.
No matter the sounds of how many beeper beeps.
I could not control myself has fallen sleep.

My tired body was unable to sit on my deck.
I pulled it go to my bed really took a sweet sleep
I did not care so many books on the deck junk heap
This is the first experience, I felt better after a little sleep

How wonderful I got back my good spirit.
After this experience I learned afternoon sleep.
In the passed fifty years I have never been so tired.
This might be a signal to train myself get rest.

It is why there in Perking teach children noon sleep.
Yes, sleep can help people get healthier.
Why not go to sleep when you’re tired?
You have better learn the advantageous sleep.

About sleep I remember twenty years ago one day.
My eye balls were uncontrollable automatically leaped
It was my experience during my long way’s drive.
That time I had to park my car aside to get half hour sleep.
I scared to drive any more when I really felt tired.
It is my serious warning to you won’t be risk on this.

Damon Runyon

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to come up to you and show you a nice brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken, and this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the Jack of Spades jump out of the deck and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not bet this man, for as sure as you are standing there, you are going to end up with an earful of cider.

Marooned with Delusions

They made sure James Baldwin,
Felt uncomfortable.
And decided Josephine Baker,
Was too original.
So she was ostracized.

And since the people,
Refused to represent themselves...
With an identity they themselves believed,
They accepted being oppressed...
As an expression of protection.

And to this very day,
They seek additional ways...
In which to continue this process,
With a hope someone amongst them...
Can prove to do it the best.

To say their mindsets have been left in the dessert,
Is to confront them with the reality...
There is not an 'oasis' that exists.
Or a floating ship that can be found,
Awaiting them to board on a sand dune.

They have been marooned with delusions.
However...
They have been convinced with a faith kept,
A Sunbathing is theirs to have...
On an upper deck.

On the Deck

sonnet #18
on the deck

i sit in silence on the deck at night
and look into the gloom. the low winds utter
low sighing sounds. along the horizon’s height
the mountains rise darkly in the waning light;
within the house, behind a wind-blown shutter,
a flickering light burns, and white moths flutter
against the casement in their blundering flight.

attracted by the glow of brighter lamps,
the younger guys have left me with my ‘pipe’,
listening to the wind and crickets call.
i only think: the sun has dried my cramps,
the mist will touch the morn, the time is ripe
and in the sky, the stars begin to fall.

The Harpooner

He told me over the deck to call him
Whenever there was a theatre of war;
A whale may inhibit me at times,
It is caretaker of the voyage home.
Another ship can be brought to buy
The slaves and jewellery and fuel.
Clear and contrasting was the report,
Idle chatter beamed on the people of the port,
People had the answers to questions they quoted.
The harpooner came on deck
And was in evidence.

Challenger shuttle disaster (Terzanelle)

The launching deck is now a memory cast in stone
and when the space vehicle launches, suddenly
to travel far and from the platform, is gone

people cheer, while a omen encompass me
in the distance it shimmers
and when the space vehicle launches, suddenly

with flames exploding it glimmers
raining down in pieces and smoke
in the distance it shimmers

and anguish suddenly makes me choke
when man stays locked to destiny, bound in time and space
raining down in pieces and smoke

apocalypse unfolding during that sheer climb, against earth’s face
seventy three seconds and then catastrophe
when man stays locked to destiny, bound in time and space

is caught forever vividly in memory like a universal apostrophe:
The launching deck is now a memory cast in stone,
seventy three seconds and then catastrophe,
to travel far and from the platform is gone.

Outside

I want to be lighting my pipe on deck,
With my baggage safe below—
I want to be free of the crowded quay,
While the steamer’s swinging slow.
I want to be free of treachery,
And of sordid joys and griefs—
To be out of sight of the faces white,
And the waving of handkerchiefs.
I want to be making my ship-board friends,
I want to be free of the past—
I want to be laughing with kindred souls,
While the Heads are opening fast.
I want to be sailing far to-day,
On the tracks where the rovers go,
To feel the heave of the deck, and draw
The breath that the rovers know.

Walt Whitman

To The Man-of-War-Bird

THOU who hast slept all night upon the storm,
Waking renew'd on thy prodigious pinions,
(Burst the wild storm? above it thou ascended'st,
And rested on the sky, thy slave that cradled thee,)
Now a blue point, far, far in heaven floating,
As to the light emerging here on deck I watch thee,
(Myself a speck, a point on the world's floating vast.)

Far, far at sea,
After the night's fierce drifts have strewn the shores with wrecks,
With re-appearing day as now so happy and serene, 10
The rosy and elastic dawn, the flashing sun,
The limpid spread of air cerulean,
Thou also re-appearest.

Thou born to match the gale, (thou art all wings,)
To cope with heaven and earth and sea and hurricane,
Thou ship of air that never furl'st thy sails,
Days, even weeks untired and onward, through spaces, realms gyrating,
At dusk that look'st on Senegal, at morn America,
That sport'st amid the lightning-flash and thunder-cloud,
In them, in thy experience, had'st thou my soul, 20
What joys! what joys were thine!

The Ship Of Earth.

'Thou Ship of Earth, with Death, and Birth, and Life, and Sex aboard,
And fires of Desires burning hotly in the hold,
I fear thee, O! I fear thee, for I hear the tongue and sword
At battle on the deck, and the wild mutineers are bold!

'The dewdrop morn may fall from off the petal of the sky,
But all the deck is wet with blood and stains the crystal red.
A pilot, GOD, a pilot! for the helm is left awry,
And the best sailors in the ship lie there among the dead!'

Pestilence Hortative

Dirty deck was always
stacked against one.
Even losing haggard moral
unesteemed victory was won.

Worthless heartless soulless being
out strives ostracized otiose bum.
Upward struggling parrying patchily
life’s jagged razor-race edge is run.

Marked deck was always unethical
stacked against honourable singular one.
Man race erasing earth code moral
unbalanced industrial victory patchily won.

Bilgeways Hold

(Bilgeways Hold)

Bilgeways hold. Boat 's atop the blocks
timber 's under the keel, the chain-bolts,
bumkins are hawling down the fore-tack
the timber daggers and the gun-deck oak.

Hours walk, I bonk the timber false heel,
incinerate tar to blusher upon main keel,
chocks of upper deck fay across the apron,
hammer the nails, arrest 'em 'n scout peg.

Sweat dribbles, hammer drops on dagger
drops trickle down the floor and swagger
my muscled arms rustle, bitter to befit
abridge the shafts scout and fix the bitts.

Brawn arms on sluggish job, head together
two strakes hooked, gunwales to foregather
as sinews work on manly effort and hoist
arise and heave to join, my forehead moist

A man must know, as hammer drops, to usher
with calm patience of no disuse of a rusher,
a man must know how desuetude to crosscut
in a ship-yard his thrust to cond and rebut

And it looks like the music hall race has caught me up
But Ill compete (yeah yeah)

For all that its worth

For all that its worth
Ill compete (with a full deck)
For all that Im worth

Retrieve from you my with-held treasure,
Then watch you sink with you sunken rotting wreck,
Let us hurry now, time is running out,
Lets not forget time is money said the business man to his faithful scout.

A Little Boy's Dream

To and fro, to and fro
In my little boat I go
Sailing far across the sea
All alone, just little me.
And the sea is big and strong
And the journey very long.
To and fro, to and fro
In my little boat I go.

Sea and sky, sea and sky,
Quietly on the deck I lie,
Having just a little rest.
I have really done my best
In an awful pirate fight,
But we cdaptured them all right.
Sea and sky, sea and sky,
Quietly on the deck I lie--

Far away, far away
From my home and from my play,
On a journey without end
Only with the sea for friend
And the fishes in the sea.
But they swim away from me
Far away, far away
From my home and from my play.

Then he cried "O Mother dear."
And he woke and sat upright,
They were in the rocking chair,
Mother's arms around him--tight.

Some Fun With Balloons On A Midnight Candle

some colored balloons in my room
floating towards the ceiling
they are light
wanting to escape
their nature of flight

they can fly away from this roof
and they all gleam on borrowed light of the moon
like some colored lights
fruits, floating fruits dissolving in dark skies

above a midnight candle
they stay for a while and travel a certain distance
in this heat this dark confusion in my mind

each shall burst, i have not heard this sound
cracking in this darkness
floating, i am, it is me, how well do i know?
this burst this natural death
in space
