People have a preconceived notion about who I am and it's interesting. It's like picking who you want to win for the Oscars and not seeing the movie.

In this business, my business, I get to meet all kinds of incredible people, fascinating people, glamorous people and sexy people and highly intellectual people. And you meet them and you go 'interesting, interesting, interesting'. They're interesting, but not very many people stop you in your tracks.

Sometimes A Great Notion
Written by John Mellencamp
Never give an inch, that's what I say, son.
When it's too tough for everybody else,
Hell, it's just right for me.
Now, my lips are bleeding
From the selfish things that I've done,
And my heart it lies at the bottom of the ocean.
Sometimes a great notion...
Wanted to make love to my girl
In the backseat of my car.
So, I took her to the drive-in picture show.
So, I filled her up with
Lies and a strong love potion
And I'm sittin' here watching the movie alone.
Sometimes a great notion...
Sometimes the best plans
Have been known to go astray.
So, you better put your seatbelt on.
Just like your worst headache,
Well, a bad day don't go away.
And, you hit the ground running against your emotions.
Sometimes a great notion...
Sometimes a great notion...

Picking It Up
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up,
From the middle can be critical.
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up...
Like that does not ensure,
Self assurance to occur.
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up,
From the middle can be critical.
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up...
Like that does not ensure,
Self assurance to occur.
It is a strategy that one should seek.
With satisfaction first examined.
To make sure that one increases harmony!
With a proactive way,
Of life to live.
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up,
From the middle can be critical.
It is the heat that one releases.
When nothing satisfies to analyzing eyes...
Only seeing with a vision that's fixed.
As if in a tunnel,
To rip through quick.
It's not a riddle when one plays it second fiddle,
Oh...
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up,
From the middle can be critical.
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up,
With proactive actions to prevent blurs.
And...
Don't be vague!
Proactive actions do prevent blurs.
Don't be vague.
Proactive actions do prevent,
The making of excuses.
Proactive actions do prevent blurs.
Don't be vague.
Proactive actions do prevent,
The making of excuses.
Proactive actions do prevent blurs.
Don't be vague.
Proactive actions do prevent,
The making of excuses.
Oh...
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up,
From the middle can be critical.
Picking it up.
Picking it up.
Picking it up,
One should think of self assurance that endures.

Picking Up The Pieces
Take cover, young lovers,
fall apart at the seams
It's stainless steel, that's how I feel,
you're the girl of my dreams
Well I tried to call you on the phone,
your dad said that you weren't at home
But we are, picking up the pieces of our lovin'
over and over again
Picking up the pieces let's do it again
We're picking up the pieces,
picking up the pieces of our love
Well, I need your lovin'
to show me what I am
And I want your body
to make me feel like a man
You know that I'm down on my knees,
you know it's you that I want to please, please
Picking up the pieces of our lovin'
over and over again
Picking up the pieces let's do it again
We're picking up the pieces,
picking up the pieces of our love

I don't want to do an action movie, because I've acted in them, and they're so boring to do, because they're so technical. The headache of that is daunting. But, if it were an action movie with really interesting characters, how great would that be?

Fragile (Wounded)
She shines
In a world full of ugliness
She matters
When everything is meaningless
Fragile
She doesn't see her beauty
She tries to get away
Sometimes
It's just that nothing seems worth saving
I can't watch her slip away
I won't let you fall apart
I won't let you fall apart
I won't let you fall apart
I won't let you fall apart
She reads the minds of all the people as they pass her by
Hoping someone can see
If I could fix myself i'd -
but it's too late for me
I won't let you fall apart
I won't let you fall apart
I won't let you fall apart
I won't let you fall apart
We'll find the perfect place to go where we can run and hide
I'll build a wall and we can keep them on the other side
...but they keep waiting
...and picking and picking and picking and picking...
It's something I have to do
I won't let you fall apart
I was there, too
I won't let you fall apart
Before everything else
I won't let you fall apart
I was like you
I won't let you fall apart

With A Picking Up Of Pieces
Betting to get even,
When the odds are not for all.
Makes not a bit of sense,
As many tears fall.
People wish to leap,
When sometimes it's best to crawl.
And a learning to make peace,
With a picking up of pieces.
People wish to win,
To go shopping at a mall.
Without a learning to make peace.
Or a picking up of pieces.
People want to make their rules,
And break every law.
And not learn a single thing,
About the picking up of pieces.
Losers choose to keep their status as big fools.
With disturbing of the peace,
And a dropping of their pieces.
Losers choose to keep their status as big fools.
With disturbing of the peace,
And a dropping of their pieces.
With a boo hooing done,
Or a booing who they choose.
With a leaving of no peace.
Or a picking up of pieces.
With a boo hooing done,
And loudly done too!
With no peace released,
Or a picking up of pieces.
Boooo...
Boo hooing is what they do.
With no peace.
Or a picking up of pieces.
Boooo...
Boo hooing is what they choose.
With no peace.
Or a picking up of pieces.
People want to make their rules,
And break every law.
And not learn a single thing,

Boo hooing is what they do.
With no peace.
Or a picking up of pieces.

Dismissing to be peaceful,
With a picking up of pieces.

Your Story
Don’t become attached to your story for it changes all the time,
it could be a fantasy novel or a poem that rhymes.
You write your movie script every day,
make it worth writing about for people to say,
say that you had an interesting life
that was of your own way.

Paul Riser tells it in an interesting way; he dissects it and tells the structure, you know, 'you don't mention that part here.' But that's what's interesting about it and the people who are absent are interesting too.
When I am working on a movie, all I want to talk about is the movie. All I want to be with are the movie people. It's like a clan. If I'm asked to people's houses for dinner, I hate to go, because they'll talk about other things.

Interesting
There are so many different types of interesting.
Maybe you were trying to use a euphemism.
Most people don't want to hear a dysphemism.
You might of thought it was irresistible.
Theres a opinion going around that it was unfashionable.
Maybe it was very very sad.
Oh no you didn't say is was very very bad.
No one got to hear anything except that it was very interesting.
Its too bad because you had so many types of interesting.
So I didn't have anything to do with picking the songs, but I got to musically take them in places I thought might be interesting, so it was a real neat collaboration among the three of us.
