I wanted to work; it's not right for a princess of the royal house to be commercial, so Andrew and I decided to make the divorce official so I could go off and get a job.

Make This House A Home

Well theres something in us living
Theres something you should know
There was a time for us to fall
Now its time to grow
But you know its not the way
That I intended it to be
Crossing hearts and killing souls
And trying to get down to whats real
All I ever wanted was to make this house a home
I let go of sinking sand wont you help me find a stone
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
Was to make this house a home
All I needed was your hand to hold
I spent so much time alone
I needed your direction
But we re-aligned my broken bones
Well theyre running from a lifeless state
Somehow we lost our hold
All we have with us is change
Left over from what started out as gold
All I ever wanted was to make this house a home
I let go of sinking sand - wont you help me find a stone
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
Was to make this house a home
This is what I give to you
Its flesh and blood
Its body and soul
Wont you take whats left of who I am
And try to see it whole
Im holding you responsible for every word I say
If you feel the brokenness
Wont you try and look the other way
I never meant to be so low
I only wanted you to see
That time was healing someone else
But its tearing apart the very heart of me
This is what I give to you
Its flesh and blood
Its body and soul
Wont you take whats left of who I am
And try to see it whole
All I ever wanted was to make this house a home
I let go of sinking sand - wont you help me find a stone
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
All I ever wanted
Was to make this house a home
So make this house a home
Make this house a home
Make this house a home

Kingdom of Make-believe

Read my book at work: “The Ordinary Princess”
by M.M. Kaye – the best combination of fairy tales
“The Ugly Duckling” and “Cinderella”- that’s
ever been – or ever will be

Six princesses were born as beautiful as the sun,
golden hair, cornflower-eyes, a rosy complexion;
a seventh princess was born and was expected to
have the same beauty – sevenfold

But an old fairy, Crustacea, invited to her christening
promptly declared the princess would be ordinary –
as she grew up, her many gifts – Wit, Health, Charm,
Courage and Cheerfulness

Were all missed in her being plain. When the King
decreed a Dragon would lay waste to the land until a
courageous Prince would slay the Dragon and thus win
the princess’ hand

She could not abide such childishness, being plain
she enjoyed life so much more than her beautiful
sisters - they had to be careful never to spoil their
lovely complexions

The Ordinary Princess had mouse-coloured hair and
freckles – when she was to be locked up in a tower
she ran away to the forest and started work as a
kitchen-maid in another kingdom

She befriended some kind of page – the King in
Disguise – and they fell in love; she was unmasked
by her old nurse - he by the Lord Chamberlain;
they decided on a royal wedding

Both hating princesses and boring princes who
never learnt to enjoy life, they ran off to the forest;
each other’s identity still a mystery; they
recognised the same noble stuff

In each other before they knew their identities, he
was make-believe angry at her deceit when she was
unmasked; she also make-believe angry at him
when he was recognised –

I’m sorry to admit; I read at work, my eyes went out
of focus, my mind all confused; I could not continue
to do what was expected – some boring routine,
because I was no longer there

Being on the Planet of Fairy Tales – a special place that
I can’t transcend, it makes me too happy and joyous
so I forsake reality and dream in the Kingdom
of Make-believe…

Bonus Mosh Pt. 2

So, scream I heard about your message,
And how it reeked of your indifference,
...it bleeds horizontal straight from your wrists.
(So scream louder now)
Because I'm bound to come around
(Bound to come around)
But can't you, can't you feel it rolling off your lips,
Tensing up your shoulders,
C'mon say it...
[Chorus]
Well, If it's love (It's love)
Make it hurt (I deserve it)
Well, If it's love (It's love)
Make it hurt (I deserve it)
Well, it's love, it's love, it's love...
Make it hurt.
I said I use the inconsistencies
That undress the machine,
You're the poster boy, our selling point, the focus for their new campaign.
(Something has to be done...it just has to)
Bound to come around about
(bound to come around...)
Oh, but can't you, can't you feel it rolling off your lips,
Tensing up your shoulders, c'mon...
[Chorus]
The keys to the castle
(Are right where I left them)
princess,princess, princess
more attention stage center please
'Cause after all, well isn't that all that I've been after and,
I mean After all, well isn't that all that I'm after,
You're so...
There's no way out
And tis a long way down
You are nothing but a haircut and a suit coat
I like you man....you're crazy.
(No way out) I give up in you, well, I give up in you,
(No way out) I give up in you.
(No way out) Well, I give up in you, I give up in you,
(No way out) Well, I give up in you.
I wanted you for nothing more,
Than hating you for what you were,
If that's what you wanted to hear,
(Well, if that's what you wanted to hear)
I wanted you for nothing more,
Than hating you for what you were,
(Don't leave, leave) If that's what you wanted to hear,
(If that's what you wanted to hear)
I wanted you for nothing more,
Than hating you for what you were,
(Don't leave, leave) If that's what you wanted to hear,
(If that's what you wanted to hear)
(It's love, it's love) I wanted you for nothing more,
(Make it hurt, I deserve it) Than hating you for what you were,
(If that's what you wanted to hear)
That's what you wanted to hear,
(To hear) If that's what you wanted to hear.
(If that is how you'll let it burn)

The divorce is a boon

Suppose you buy a house only once
Or make a friend with one only once
Or have a work with no right to alter,
Can you feel free? The divorce is a boon.

The Heart Has A Longing Of Its Own Apart From The Beautiful

who can dictate
what the heart can love?
no one

on that day of
sorrow
the beautiful princess
gives up
her royal right
to a shepherd
that she loved

travels a desert and
a forest
crosses six rivers
sleeps over grass
for three nights
just t to be with him

and she enters his
thatched-roof house
surrounded with chickens
and goats
and asks him to make
love with her tonight

she undresses herself
her white body
scented by fresh roses
and precious perfume
lighted
by the moon

but all that the shepherd did
was to look at the stars
and then
sleep

the night is cold
with its eerie silence
and the princess
kills herself

Other Woman

She was enjoying a spring day outside on the stairs
With a book in one hand, the other playing with her hair
When her fiancé walked over, singing like Astaire
That he could not wait until the two became a pair
In love and war all’s fair, and she had won the war
She didn’t get what she wanted, so she wanted more
She was clearly hot for marriage, called him a fool’s clown
But when at last she saw the ice, she decided to cool down

There comes a point
When you think you don’t reap what you've put in
But it’s no fun to become just the other woman

They started great on their way, the years faded like barbers
And they stopped giving free meals to ducks down at the harbor
Two lives were lived under one roof and apart they had grown
Four walls, a bed, windows, & steps, this house was not a home
He stayed out late, working, reassured her to the end
That he was only working and he had no special friend
She met him several times before, but she couldn’t stop
Because her very own divorce was right around the block

Living In a Circus

Divorce should rhyme with happiness,
Instead of remorse and having regrets.
When things don't work out,
Between two once in love...
Instead of humiliating each other in court,
They should be sentenced
To spend at least a year living lives as clowns...
Making life living in a circus official!
And get paid for it!
Who knows?
They just might rediscover each other!

Mexican Divorce

(burt bacharach/bob hilliard)
Its a sin for you to get a mexican divorce
Down below el paso lies juarez
Mexico is different, like a travel folder says
Cross the rio grande and you will find
An old adobe house
Where you leave your past behind
One day married, next day free
Broken hearts for you and me
Takes no time, for you to get
A mexican divorce
As I came into this lonely house last night
I looked at all my windows but I couldnt find one light
I found you on that road to mexico
And now, my love, I beg
Please, oh, please, dont go
One day married, next day free
Broken hearts for you and me
Its a sin for you to get a mexican divorce
Finding love takes so long
Walking out must be wrong
Its a sin for you to get a mexican divorce
One day married, next day free
Broken hearts for you and me
Its a sin for you to get a mexican divorce

The Color Purple

a friend of mine is obsessed with purple
she says it's a royal color
fits for kings and queens
and she feels like a princess
on her purple hair
her purple dress
and purple bra and
purple shoes
the walls of her house are painted
the railings of the stairs
the windows
the doors are all purple now
the flowers in her garden
and the leaves of her trees
the grass
all purple too
her speech is purple too
the movies she watch are all in the shade of purple
her car turned purple too
royal color that is what she says

i tell her bluntly, ' You are boring, purple! '

I, Me, Mine

In the Beginning
(or perhaps a little later)
there was I.

And then, because I was lonely,
there was ME.

And WE got on like a house on fire!
And, so that we could have something in common,
there was MINE.
And we got on like a house on fire.
(Very MUCH like a house on fire!)

And then YOU came along
and spoilt everything
because YOU wanted YOURS;
and what YOU called YOURS
was actually mine.

And to make matters worse,
you brought HIM with you;
and he wanted HIS.

And although he could have SHARED YOURS,
he didn't. He wanted it all to himself.
AND he wanted MINE.

And so it all went wrong.
There was the Spanish Armada
and the French Revolution
and the Second World War
and Vietnam
and Tony Blair
and it's all such a MESS!

And yet, it started out so WELL!

Improvisations: Light And Snow: 13

My heart is an old house, and in that forlorn old house,
In the very centre, dark and forgotten,
Is a locked room where an enchanted princess
Lies sleeping.
But sometimes, in that dark house,
As if almost from the stars, far away,
Sounds whisper in that secret room —
Faint voices, music, a dying trill of laughter?
And suddenly, from her long sleep,
The beautiful princess awakes and dances.
Who is she? I do not know.
Why does she dance? Do not ask me! —
Yet to-day, when I saw you,
When I saw your eyes troubled with the trouble of happiness,
And your mouth trembling into a smile,
And your fingers pull shyly forward, —
Softly, in that room,
The little princess arose
And danced;
And as she danced the old house gravely trembled
With its vague and delicious secret.

The house in Panorama Street

I once had a stretch of red rocky ground
on the street side
of a rented house
in Panorama street in Rooihuiskraal.

The cars criss-crossed past
and the bank took it back
and rented it out
and nobody else
wanted to make that house
his own.

I decided to let flowers,
sprout out
of that rocky earth.

There were small carnations
that grew creeping over each other
with the most wonderful smell
and opened
in colours of white, red and purple blue.

There were geraniums
that easily grew out of cuttings
and become big strong bushes
that was covered with flowers.

Vygies crept all over the place
and just where you look
the rocky soil stood in flower
and I wanted to stop the bank
when I got two months notice
and other people
bought that house
with my beautiful garden.

Royal love,
Royal wedding,
Royal pregnancy,

Fallen princess

Fallen princess is her new name for me,
fallen princess how she uses to call me,
so I start to doubt
Fallen princess, is this really me.

Once I sat on my high horse,
on the winner's throne.
Everything I wanted
was something on the floor, a dirty diamond.

So I climbed off my horse
and picked one of them.
By running away my white horse said
'Black isn't the shade of my soul, so let me go'.

A fallen princess with a dirty diamond.
Is this really me?
I don't know,
but you aren't allowed to judge me.
