I wasn't trying to top Pulp Fiction with Jackie Brown. I wanted to go underneath it and make a more modest character study movie.

We do a hard fantasy as well as hard science fiction, and I think I probably single-handedly recreated military science fiction. It was dead before I started working in it.

John Hume

Like everybody at that age, I read an awful lot of pulp fiction. But at the same time, I also read quite a bit of history and read that as much for pleasure as part of a curriculum.

Soul’s purification

I read a touching fiction
Or watch a moving movie,
When I suspend disbelief
And accept as reality
The fiction and movie,
By which I experience a catharsis
And release stress and tension.
The soul in the processes
Undergoes purification.

Science Fiction Woman

She was my science fiction woman,
I was her science fiction man,
Yet our love was no fiction
In our science fiction land.

I wore my science fiction spacesuit,
She wore a spacesuit just like mine,
While we were floating together
In our science fiction minds.

She said her name was Taylor Trippy-
A flower child light years beyond-
She was a science fiction hippy-
A spacey and vivacious blonde.

She told me of our global warming,
Greenhouse gases, acid rain,
She told me everything I know
About the structure of the brain.

So we cruised through constellations
In our science fiction ship,
Transcending time and generations-
Forever free, forever hip.

She came from some unknown planet
In some uncharted galaxy,
And we were both kindred souls
In our cosmic fantasy.

And I don't know how I knew her
Or how we came to meet that night-
She was my science fiction woman,
Who traveled at the speed of light.

At night I look upon the ocean,
The distant stars where she might be-
She was my science fiction woman,
Who set my heart forever free.

Telling Stories

There is fiction in the space between
The lines on your page of memories
Write it down but it doesnt mean
Youre not just telling stories
There is fiction in the space between
You and me
There is fiction in the space between
You and reality
You will do and say anything
To make your everyday life
Seem less mundane
There is fiction in the space between
You and me
Theres a science fiction in the space between
You and me
A fabrication of a grand scheme
Where I am the scary monster
I eat the city and as I leave the scene
In my spaceship I am laughing
In your remembrance of your bad dream
Theres no one but you standing
Leave the pity and the blame
For the ones who do not speak
You write the words to get respect and compassion
And for posterity
You write the words and make believe
There is truth in the space between
There is fiction in the space between
You and everybody
Give us all what we need
Give us one more sad sordid story
But in the fiction of the space between
Sometimes a lie is the best thing
Sometimes a lie is the best thing

Some major writers have a huge impact, like Ayn Rand, who to my mind is a lousy fiction writer because her writing has no compassion and virtually no humor. She has a philosophical and economical message that she is passing off as fiction, but it really isn't fiction at all.

Grind Me In The Gears

Im holding my last breath
Its burning in my lungs
Clenching up my eyes
Bloody up my tongue
For the words that might escape
Are ringing in my ears
Grinds me to a pulp
Grind me in the gears
My frozen spirit aches
I slip another day
Start to lose my grip
Find another way
For the life that might escape
Has been echoing for years
Grinds me to a pulp
Grind me in the gears
Ive seen all the faces
They mirror me
And Ive felt the tearing tearing of the teeth
Ive given up my ghosts
Barely breathe your name
Offer up myself
Pray youll do the same
For the love that might escape
Well thats the biggest fear
Grinds me to a pulp
Grinds me in the gears

A non-fiction writer pretty much has the shape of the figure in front of him or her and goes about refining it. A work of non-fiction is not as difficult to write as a work of fiction, but it's not as satisfying in the end.

Winter Pulp

The cadence of the wind striding
Resembles that of the restive exhaustion
Of the children wearing mittens
Beyond the Sun’s cold leash –
Or the chortling of the elders
As they read the newspapers
Subtly sitting on a suede chair
Relishing in the façade of the brazen
Winter, and every pulp of sodden glacier.
My hands are tremulous as the cold vapor
Of the bottle I am holding schemes
With the allure of the winter fate
Or winter serendipity and defeat me
With a foray that none can match
And that is – to render me wholly alone
With partial, fragmented hope that
Cannot be resuscitated and form a city
Of erratic allegories.
Yes, the winter pulp
I have been there – the winter’s pulp
Clothes me as if I am a sartorial man of erudition,
Poise and grace,
When I am just one of the pulps of winter –
Forgotten,
And disconsolate.

Science Fiction is not just about the future of space ships travelling to other planets, it is fiction based on science and I am using science as my basis for my fiction, but it's the science of prehistory - palaeontology and archaeology - rather than astronomy or physics.

My Psychiatrist Is A Nut

My psychiatrist is a nut
ooh! his throat I'd like to cut
he gives me a script
tells me it'll be ok
these bills
he makes me pay
he shrills!
have a nice day
that nutjob better sleep with both eyes open
these pills
make me have a hard time copin
I want to jump up from this couch
and stab that slouch
ooh thrills!
he's such a quack
blood spills!
he better watch his back
theres nothing wrong with me
I'm normal as can be

To Be (Love Poem)

Sometimes it’s hard to be apart
Sometimes it’s hard to be brave
Sometimes it’s hard to be cold
Sometimes it’s hard to be daring
Sometimes it’s hard to be early
Sometimes it’s hard to be friends
Sometimes it’s hard to be good
Sometimes it’s hard to be happy
Sometimes it’s hard to be in-love
Sometimes it’s hard to be just
Sometimes it’s hard to be kind
Sometimes it’s hard to be lovely
Sometimes it’s hard to be mellow
Sometimes it’s hard to be nasty
Sometimes it’s hard to be out
Sometimes it’s hard to be poor
Sometimes it’s hard to be quiet
Sometimes it’s hard to be ready
Sometimes it’s hard to be simple

Sometimes it’s hard to be together

Other Lives

It's just relaxing sometimes to watch others
with all your friends, relatives, and mothers
not worry about living my life with each care
but watching others, through love, betrayal, death and dare
It's nice to watch a story unfold
hear the stories yet untold
watch their loves on movie screens
even watching my peers- you know... teens
It's exciting to see their life and adventure
Enticing to watch how he falls in love with her
how evil is defeated, or how a science fiction makes us question this reality
all these movies, they help me see
see not only myself, but help me relax, because as i watch it's not me
when i watch all those lives and all those trials its not me
for a moment in time
I am not worried about my life but theirs, i live through they eyes
subject to their rhyme
see their skies
and not mine, sometimes this the most alluring
part of it all, watching someone else live on movie screen
its a beautiful thing
because it's not my life up there, i need not worry, not my scene

Unkle Main Title Theme

There...there...there...there...
Put aside the everyday world and come with us
Into the realm of imagination
The middle ground between light and shadow
U-n-k-l-e
...wouldve ordinarily unveiled themselves as a guarantee of anonymity
But could include among other notable figures....
Dj shadow and james lavelle
Keep on rockin, keep on rock...rock...rock...keep on rockin
Keep-keep-keep on rock...k-l-e...keep on....k-l-e
Keep on...l-e, l-e...rockin
U-n-k-l-e, u-n-k, u-n-k, u-n-k-k-l-l-e
Its the awesome eternal unkle word-word-word....word
Science fiction, science, science fiction, science fiction
Fiction, fiction, science, science fict- biobreaker
An adventure unlike anything on your planet
Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on
Keep keep on rockin
Keep keep in keep keep keep in keep keep on keep keep in keep on
Keep on keep keep keep on rockin
Keep on u keep on n keep on k keep on l keep on e
Keep on rockin e
U (u-n) n (l-l-l) k-l-e....
There were too many of us
We had access to too many, uh, too much money
Too much equipment, and little by little we went insane
Fiery the angels fell...burning in the fires of orc
U-n-k-l-e, u-n-k, u-n-k, u-n-k-k-l-l-e
A ticket to nothingness...

The Ex-husbands

(This is first-person fiction and the ex-husbands are stereotypical)

'I tried to make it work -
I always tried really hard,
every, every time.

But I guess I must have
tried too hard because
I spoiled them rotten and
then, of course, they were
rotten.

Most of them live downtown
now, and they do seem to be
making progress.

Some of them even have
their very own shopping-carts.'
