He was a sociologist; he had got into an intellectual muddle early on in life and never managed to get out.

A Little Turtle Called Muddle
There was a little turtle
and his name was Muddle
because at times he got confused
could not remember if he was
a tortoise or a turtle.
Had Muddle been brought up
in the wild
he would not have been confused,
but he was brought up in captivity
and now he was not sure what he was suppose to be.
Now Muddle lived a sheltered life.
He had no friends or playmates
to keep him company.
Then one day in his glass cage,
his owners put in someone new.
Now he had someone to talk to.
The newcomer stayed in his shell
afraid to come out. He felt safe in there,
thinking no one could see him
when he was
tucked inside his shell.
Muddle moved up to him
and nudged him with his shell.
“Have you gone to sleep in there? ”
Muddle asked as turtles do.
“Come on out,
no one is going to hurt you.”
The stranger poked his head out
and gave a look around.
“Who are you? ” he asked.
“My name is Muddle. What is your name? ”
“My name is Timmy
because I’m rather timid.”
After their introductions,
Muddle and Timmy
settled in for a long chat.
They talked to on another
between little snacks,
from sunrise to sunset.
Now Muddle had his company,
someone he always wanted,
and Timmy had a friend too.
They both lived together happily
and as they grew older
Muddle found he wasn’t Muddle at all.
As it turned out
Muddle was not Muddle,
But Marianne.
He was not a boy, but a little girl.
Now Marianne and Timmy
live together happily.
They are hoping for
the patter of little feet
in the not to distant future
as they start their family
and live happily ever after.

Goodbye! ! !
You don’t know what you missed
Sometimes I think of the list
Of what keeps us apart
And I know its coz I have a heart
You gave me a little trouble
Left my mind in a muddle
But now I’m free
Coz you mean nothing to me
Oh let me forget my lies
For I used them to disguise
How evil you really are
But I know this wont scar
You gave me a little trouble
Left my mind in a muddle
But now I’m free
Coz you mean nothing to me
My friends they saw me fall
From where I stood so tall
And they were scared
But still they cared
You gave me a little trouble
Left my mind in a muddle
But now I’m free
Coz you mean nothing to me
I tell you now that some how
Under those glares I won’t bow
And know you words mean nothing
I just want you to know I was bluffing
You gave me a little trouble
Left my mind in a muddle
But now I’m free
Coz you mean nothing to me
So now I know something new
And it’s something about you
Should have seen it before
How you’re a total git right to the core

This Is Just A Hobby
this is just a hobby
pure fun, nothing serious, just a game
i play
after a hard day's work, sweating my body,
purging all my intellectual juices out
to save a life, to free those who are detained
without just cause,
this is just a variation of the monotony,
it surges, but i keep it stable, still like a wind
that i invite inside my room and then i close the window
to hear a buzzing sound of
consistency,
this is nothing but a sigh, a snore, after a heavy meal,
in bed, silenced, finally, plunging into a world of dreams.
this is but a dream, and everything is allowed here.
no rules, all colors, all strokes,
this is but a sideline, no money involved, nothing bread-like
or buttered,
this is but the time in between the serious muddle.

For many decades now - and certainly during my adult life in academe - the Western intellectual world has not been convinced that theology is a pursuit that can be engaged in with intellectual honesty and integrity.

Early In The Morning
Early in the morning and I cant get right
Had a little date with my baby last night
Now its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Well its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Now its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Went to all the places where we used to go
Went to your house but you dont live there no more
Now its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Well its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Went to your friends house but she was out
Knock on your fathers door and he began to shout get out there boy
Early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Went to doogie chain to get something to eat
Waiter looked at me and said you sure look beat
Now its early in the morning (early in the morning)
Early in the morning (early in the morning)
Well its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Well its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues
Well its early in the morning
And I aint got nothing but the blues

No sociologist should think himself too good, even in his old age, to make tens of thousands of quite trivial computations in his head and perhaps for months at a time.
Looking At You
looking at you early morning
makes my nerves run like kids
desire rises to the skies
like smoke of my fires
seeing you naked in my dreams
walking in the sands of my seas
strands of lights from my heavens
in a flash you come and in a flash you leave
and then the rain of pains
i become this soil
absorbing everything
cracks and crevices
holes and emptiness
mud and muddle
drenched and flooded.

Pol Pot - he rounded up anybody he thought was intellectual and had them executed. And how he told someone was intellectual or not was whether they wore glasses. If they're that clever, take them off when they see him coming!

The supreme truths are neither the rigid conclusions of logical reasoning nor the affirmations of credal statement, but fruits of the soul's inner experience. Intellectual truth is only one of the doors to the outer precincts of the temple. And since intellectual truth turned towards the Infinite must be in its very nature many-sided and not narrowly one, the most varying intellectual beliefs can be equally true because they mirror different facets of the Infinite. However separated by intellectual distance, they still form so many side-entrances which admit the mind to some faint ray from a supreme Light. There are no true and false religions, but rather all religions are true in their own way and degree. Each is one of the thousand paths to the One Eternal.
