Look at lots of exhibitions and books, and don't get hung up on cameras and technical things. Photography is about images.

The problem for me is that I've never actually studied photography, so it's quite a steep learning curve. Cameras these days do so much for you automatically but I still think there's a point where you should actually know the technical side.

But slowly I began to use cameras and then think about what it was that was going on. It took me a long time, I mean I actually played with cameras and photography for about 20 years.

We Have A Technical
We have a random on the westside
Personality malfunction
He says I cant give you anything at all
Just a room with a bad view of you
He sent a letter to a downstat
Saying sorry that I missed you
But I cant think of anything to do
Hes addicted to the time track
We have a technical
We have a technical
Hes in a hotel where they all go
Saying boy, Ive lost my memory
Its so surprising
Just how quickly things can end
Like a hero on a platform of friends
This table is so crowded
With people that I dont know
And I never really turn
My thoughts on you
So the image breaks down again
We have a technical
We have a technical
I suppose its very shady
At least until the lights go out
Advertising posters on the wall
And the young boys singing softly
Do they ever come back
Or is it always at the wrong time
I could crawl around the floor
Just like Im real
And move a hand in front of my eyes
We have a technical
We have a technical

Of course I realize that photography is not the technical facility as much as it is the eye, and this decision that one makes for the moment at which you are going to snap, you know.
Lots Of Times
Lots of times we laugh and joke
And make funny faces
And lots of time we write notes
Telling each other hello
Lots of times we hung out
And made up funny games
And lots of times we stood together
And defended our beliefs
Lots of times I think of you
And how you're my best friend
And lots of times I know
That that will never end.
Hung Up On You
Orbison/melson
Hooked on the touch of your hand, high on how you understand
Lost when you whispered hello ,something in your eyes said dont go
I just had to stay, couldnt go away from you, you knew what to do to get me
Hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you
You knew, the first time we met that I could never forget
You held me so close to you, I could never get over you
You were so aware how to make me care and keep me
Hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you
Yeah, you got me where you wanted me, I am where I really want to be
Hung up,hung up,hung up on you
Im so hung up on you that I dont know what I would do without you
Oh it will take me forever to get enough of you and I cant help it if im
Hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you baby, hung up on you
Hung up on you, hung up on you...

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Images
I think images are worth repeating
Images repeated from a painting
Images taken from a painting
From a photo worth re-seeing
I love images worth repeating
Project them upon the ceiling
Multiply them with silk screening
See them with a different feeling
Images, oh, images
Images, oh, images
Some say images have no feeling
I think theres a deeper meaning
Mechanical precision or so its seeming
Instigates a cooler feeling
I love multiplicity of screenings
Things born anew display new meanings
I think images are worth repeating
And repeating and repeating
Images, oh, images
Images, images
Im no urban idiot savant
Spewing paint without any order
Im no sphinx, no mystery enigma
What I paint is very ordinary
I dont think Im old or modern
I dont think I think Im thinking
It doesnt matter what Im thinking
Its the images that are worth repeating
And repeating, oh, images
Images
If youre looking for a deeper meaning
Im as deep as this high ceiling
If you think technique is meaning
You might find me very simple
You might think that images boring
Cars and cans and chairs and flowers
You might find me personally boring
Hammer, sickle, mao tse tong
Mao tse tong
Ooohhh, images, images
Images
I think that it bears repeating
The images upon the ceiling
I love images worth repeating
And repeating and repeating
Images, images
Oh, images, oh, images

What did you expect?
No time, no time for you.
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
Runnin from the risin heat
To find a place to hide,
The grass is always greener
Growin on the other side.
No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
[instrumental riff]
No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
[instrumental riff]
No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
Tryin to tell the world
Somehow of how I feel.
Tell me what you said again,
I cant believe its real.
No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
Andy, youre a dandy,
You dont seem to make no sense.
Nevermind the furthermore,
The plea is self-defense
No time, no time for you
I got no time, baby,
Got lots of better things to do.
Got no time
I got no time
[repeat, adlib and fade]

Moreover, photography has made it possible to fix these images and now provides us with a permanent record of each observed spectrum, which can be measured out at any time.

For example, Michael Mann's film Collateral - there is certain kinds of stories that lend themselves to digital photography. Some things are very raw stories that digital photography kind of lends itself to.

The technical is not just the machinery. The technical is a disposition to life.
She Is Electric
Shes electric
Shes in a family full of eccentrics
She done things I never expected
And I need more time
Shes got a sister
And God only knows how Ive missed her
On the palm of her hand is a blister
And I need more time
And I want you to know
Ive got my mind made up now
But I need more time
And I want you to say
Do you know what Im saying?
But I need more ....
Coz Ill be you and youll be me
Theres lots and lots for us to see
Theres lots and lots for us to do
She is electric, can I be electric too?
Shes got a brother
We dont get on with one another
But I quite fancy her mother
And I think that she likes me
Shes got a cousin
In fact shes got bout a dozen
Shes got one in the oven
But its nothing to do with me
And I want you to know
Ive got my mind made up now
But I need more time
And I want you to say
Do you know what Im saying?
But I need more ....
Coz Ill be you and youll be me
Theres lots and lots for us to see
Theres lots and lots for us to do
She is electric, can I be electric too?

When I first became interested in photography, I thought it was the whole cheese. My idea was to have it recognized as one of the fine arts. Today I don't give a hoot in hell about that. The mission of photography is to explain man to man and each man to himself.
