Within three months I had gone from being this black sheep of the town to suddenly becoming a pop star.

In a distant land many years ago, there lived a black sheep. It was executed by firing squad. A century later, the grieving flock erected an equestrian statue in honor of the slain sheep that looked very nice in the park. In the years that followed, every time a black sheep appeared, it was executed so that ordinary sheep could practice sculpture.

Forgotten

Lords of the Nursery
Wait in a row,
Five on the high wall,
And four on the low;
Big Kings and Little Kings,
Brown Bears and Black,
All of them waiting
Till John comes back.

Some think that John boy
Is lost in the wood,
Some say he couldn’t be,
Some say he could.
Some think that John boy
Hides on the hill;
Some say he won’t come back,
Some say he will.

High was the sun, when
John went away . . .
Here they’ve been waiting
All through the day;
Big Bears and Little Bears,
White Kings and Black,
All of them waiting
Till John comes back.

Lords of the Nursery
Looked down the hill,
Some saw the sheep-fold,
Some say the mill;
Some saw the roofs
Of the little grey town . . .
And their shadows grew long
As the sun slipt down.

Gold between the poplars
An old moon shows;
Silver up the star-way
The full moon rose;
Silver down the star-way
The old moon crept . . .
And, one by another,
The grey fields slept.

Lords of the Nursery
Their still watch keep . . .
They hear from the sheep-fold
The rustle of sheep.
A young bird twitters
And hides its head;
A little wind suddenly
Breathes, and is dead.

Slowly and slowly
Dawns the new day . . .
What’s become of John boy?
No one can say.
Some think that John boy
Is lost on the hill;
Some say he won’t come back,
Some say he will.

What's become of John boy?
Nothing at all,
He played with his skipping rope,
He played with his ball.
He ran after butterflies,
Blue ones and red;
He did a hundred happy things—
And then went to bed.

Black Star

(words & music by wayne - edwards)
Every man has a black star
A black star over his shoulder
And when a man sees his black star
He knows his time, his time has come
Black star dont shine on me, black star
Black star keep behind me, black star
Theres a lot of livin I gotta do
Give me time to make a few dreams come true
Black star
When I ride I feel that black star
That black star over my shoulder
So I ride in front of that black star
Never lookin around, never lookin around
Black star dont shine on me, black star
Black star keep behind me, black star
Theres a lot of livin I gotta do
Give me time to make a few dreams come true
Black star
One fine day Ill see that black star
That black star over my shoulder
And when I see that old black star
Ill know my time, my time has come
Black star dont shine on me, black star
Black star keep behind me, black star
Theres a lot of livin I gotta do
Give me time to make a few dreams come true
Black star

We Saw The Star

We saw the star said the shepherds, on the hills that night,

Grazing with their sheep, when suddenly they got a fright;

Because all of a sudden, in the sky, a star shone so bright,

There was also angels singing, with a heavenly light.

We have seen the Star, said the Wisemen, from afar,

And knew the message meant, they had to follow a star;

To come from the east on their camels, to meet the king,

Bearing the Gold, Frankinsense and Mhyrr, they did bring.

We see the Star, on the top of the Christmas tree,

And there is the Angel shining bright, we also see;

And then we see on the table, the manger scene,

We also see each gift, and we know what it does mean.

We see the star, reminds us of the first heavenly light,

And know of the Angel, with the Message, that night;

We remember the Wisemen and the shepherds too,

But the most important is, Christ came, for me and you.

Suddenly

Orbison/melson
Suddenly, my heart stood still
Suddenly, the sight of you gave me a thrill
Suddenly
Suddenly, i see you everywhere
Suddenly, all at once i seem to care for you
Suddenly
So suddenly i found you
To think you were near all the time
I've often been around you
I don't know how i could have been so blind
Suddenly, my world is new
Suddenly, suddenly there's only you
Suddenly
So suddenly i found you
To think you were near all the time
I've often been around you
I don't know how i could have been so blind
Suddenly, suddenly you're my dream come true
Suddenly, suddenly there's only you
So suddenly

Gradually you grow into my life

Gradually you grow into my life,
you reconnoitre my body, soul and spirit
as if you are suddenly starting a new journey,
taking to the road without any fear
and on the way you become part of me
as my own wonderful wife
and before long
I am madly in love with you,
when hours suddenly escape in your presence,
when the morning comes far too suddenly after the night,
when continually I miss you when we are apart,
when small things suddenly do amaze me,
when together we take on weeks, months and years
when as the most lovely woman you are beside me.

Storm

Did the white lightening strikes, alarm you?
Was the Thunders plowing, too deep?
Breaking, near to the sound barrier

And bleaching, the wool, of our Black Sheep.
The pasture laid down, with burned edges
The water piled, in puddles, near to town
But the storms ravaging fever

Would not, in any way, come down.
Nothing to do to appease it
But perhaps, caress its weary brow
Biding our time 'til it's full recovery

The sheep, bleached white, in the barn,
Are safe now.

Butt Town

The cops are well-groomed, with
Muscled physiques in butt town
Their tan uniforms are tailored in chic
In butt town
Any young black male who walks down the street
Is gonna get stopped by a car full of meat
But the girl with the hair
Flies by in her underwear-
Shes done nothing so far to deserve that car
When you live in butt town
You gotta get down
But in butt town Im learnin
In butt town Im earnin
In butt town Im turnin
Into my worst nightmare
Im tellin you, its a motley crew in butt town
Monday youre new, and friday youre through
In butt town
The producer is wily, and owns what he sells
The talent is eager to go straight to hell
Th tits are amazing, and everyones gazing
At some body part-
Thats the nature of art in butt town
All over butt town dreams have a show down
All over butt town values are thrown down
But in butt town Im learnin
In butt town Im earnin
In butt town Im turnin
Into my worst nightmare
In butt town baby
Im gonna be a star
Im gonna shake my butt far
Now here we go
Im gonna shake my butt
Shake my butt shake my butt
In butt town

Time passes him (English ballade)

His world falls into disrepair,
as if pulled out of the universe,
his life shatters into fragments
he looses his work, his house

chorus:
time passes him
days becomes weeks, weeks turn into months,
full of lonely evenings
months change into years.

his wife leaves him for a lover,
both of his cars are stolen,
his brown Labrador passes away from tick-bite fever
his black and white cat gets cat-flue

and nothing turns out well,
but he looks at life level-headed,
daily searches for work
and write poems one after the other.

His motorbike is smashed
from under him by a four by four
and not really mended properly
while he tries to build a life from shoelaces

and when he walks down the street
the sky is pure blue,
he notices plovers on the rugby field
hears doves in the trees,

faces are unknown to him,
he knows no girl in this new town
and he is speechless,
as some are smiling at him

but he talks to nobody,
is only observing,
every evening he has to take the family devotion
and it’s a struggle for him

and mornings when the sun rises,
he digs in the garden,
see weeds and grass sprouting out everywhere
and it’s as if everything keeps on declining

and still he persists in hoping,
walking the road to town day after day
as if a miracle could happen suddenly,
as if at a time God can untie his life.

A Foggy Day

I was a stranger in the city
Out of town were the people I knew
I had that feeling of self-pity
What to do, what to do, what to do
The outlook was decidedly blue
But as I walked through the foggy streets alone
It turned out to be the luckiest day I've known
A foggy day, in London Town
Had me low, had me down
I viewed the morning, with much alarm
British museum, had lost its charm
How long I wondered,
Could this thing last
But the age of miracles, hadn't past
For suddenly, I saw you there
And through foggy London Town,
The sun was shining everywhere
For suddenly, I saw you there
And through foggy London Town,
The sun was shining everywhere
Everywhere
Everywhere
Everywhere

Married Couple

Your sheep is a different breed in this town,
And you sleep in a different bedroom from your husband;
But yet still you call yourselves married couple.

When are the babies coming in when you people sleep in different rooms? !
For you are married couple but, you do sleep in different rooms;
And under the same roof the sun shines on you all! !
But this very act is noted because of the breed of your sheep in this town.

The Ballad of the Black-Sheep

A black-sheep, from England, who worked on the run –
Riding where the stockmen ride –
He sat by the hut when the day’s work was done –
Lone huts where the black sheep bide.
“I’m tired of my life!” to his lone self said he,
“My girl and my country are both done with me!”

“I’m tired of my life!” to the wide scrubs said he –
“My girl and my country are long done with me!”

He took from a packet a portrait and curl –
Such things as the exiles keep –
And sadly he gazed at the face of the girl –
Lost girl of a lost black-sheep.
“I’ll go where there’s fighting and die there!” said he;
“My girl and my country are well rid of me.

“I’ll go where there’s fighting and die there,” said he;
“For heart-break and country that’s well rid of me!”

He rode with a thousand, he rode with the best –
Riding as bushmen ride –
Who’d ridden alone on the wastes of the West –
Wide wastes where the drought-fiends bide,
They rode as they’d ride to an up-country ball,
And the laugh of the black-sheep was lightest of all!

The road was a shambles, the hill was a hell –
Red rosed where the reckless ride –
And he with the foremost lay torn by a shell –
(Die hard where your father died!)
“the death of a rebel!” he laughed as he groaned –
“for the land that adoptee – the land that disowned!”

the death of a black-sheep! – they laugh as they groan –
for the lands that adopt and the lands that disown!

Song by the Window Before Bed

Little Star, little Star,
Come down quick.
The Moon is a bogey-man;
He'll eat you certain if he can.
Little Star, little Star,
Come down quick!

Little Star, little Star,
Whisper "Yes."
The trees are just niggers all,
They look so black, the are so tall.
Little Star, little Star,
Whisper "Yes"

Little Star, little Star,
Gone--all gone.
The bogey-man swallowed you,
The nigger trees are laughing too.
Little Star, little Star,
Gone--all gone.

When Did Youth Go?

When did I stop being a teenager?
When did I stop listening to the radio
from midnight until 2 or 3 a.m. weeknights?

Why was teenage music so empowering?
Why were we so absorbed with the music?
Music which really rocked our wild souls?

Music we danced at local teenage disco too.
Music we drove our parents or first cars too.
Music we drank beer or spirits or partied too.

It seemed we could not live without music.
It seemed we could not meet without music.
It seemed our dreams lived within the beat of music.

Music was part of the fuel which drove our souls.
Music was part of the weekend ever speeding by.
Music was magic drumbeat of hot midnight parties.

Where is the large rocking crowd going?
Where are all the friendly teenagers going?
Where are all those old friends going?

Where where is large trendy rocking crowd going?
Where where are all the friendly teenagers going?
Where where are all those good old friends going?

Suddenly those wild unending party days are over.
Suddenly those exciting unending teenage years are over.
Suddenly those pubs full of our friends are empty.

Suddenly they all suddenly left town.
Suddenly they are all no longer around.
Suddenly they are all in places we don't go.

Suddenly they all suddenly left the old home town.
Suddenly they are all suddenly no longer around.
Suddenly they are all in places we don't know or go.

Where did those teenage years quietly go?
Those teenage friends I used to know?
Where did they all suddenly go?

Where did those teenage years quietly creeping go?
Those lost teenage friends I once upon a time did know?
Where did they all suddenly go exiting a vanishing show?

There's A New Kid In Town (feat. Keith Whitley)

We're looking for the King the new messiah
We're following the star shinging brighter
Old man won't you help us if you can
He shook his head but he pointed with his hand
There's a new kid in town and he's lying in a manger down the road
There's a new kid in town but he's just another baby I suppose
Heaven knows there's a new kid in town here in Bethlehem
[ keyboards ]
I see you travelled far brearing treasures
You say these gifts are for the new king's pleasures
I've heard that a king might come but up till now there hasn't been one
There's a new kid in town...
[ mandolin ]
There's a new kid in town...

The Black Sheep

'Black sheep, black sheep, have you any wool?'
'Yes, sir-yes, sir: three bags full.'

'I don't want any New Thought,' said he,
'Or any Theosophy, for, you see,
The faith I learned at my mother's knee
Is good enough for me.
Of course, I'm a wee bit broader than she,
Hearing one sermon where she heard three,
And I read my paper on Sunday, instead
Of the Bible only. My mother said
I was a black sheep, when she saw
I strayed a trifle away from the law,
And didn't think everyone left in the lurch
Who happened to go to a different church;
But, still, in the main, her creed is mine,
And I don't want anything more divine.'
Yet his mother's mother was more austere;
She taught her children a creed of fear,
And she called them 'black sheep' when, with a shock,
She saw them straying away from the flock,
Just far enough
To get around places they thought too rough,
Like infant damnation and endless hell.

But his mother's mother's mother would tell
How her mother thought it was God's sweet will
To punish and torture a heretic till
They drove out the devil that made him dare
Think for himself in the matter of prayer
And faith and salvation. So we see how it is
If we look back over the centuries-
The creeds men learned at their mother's knee
When Salem witches were hanged to a tree,
And the pious dames flocked thither to see,
Are not deemed Christian or holy to-day;
And the bold black sheep who went straying away
From rut-worn paths in their search for God,
And leaped over the fence into pastures broad,
Are the great trail-makers for mortal souls,
Leading the race up to higher goals
And a larger religion; where man must find
God dwelling ever within his mind,
Christ in his conduct, and heaven in his thought,
And hell but the places where love is not.
A mighty religion that makes this earth
But the cradle that fits us for death's new birth
And the life beyond it, that is so near
Its echoes may reach to the listening ear.

'Black sheep, black sheep, have you any wool?'
'Yes, sir-yes, sir: a whole world full.'

Black Sheep

FROM their folded mates they wander far,
Their ways seem harsh and wild:
They follow the beck of a baleful star,
Their paths are dream-beguiled.

Yet haply they sought but a wider range,
Some loftier mountain slope,
And little recked of the country strange
Beyond the gates of hope.

And haply a bell with a luring call
Summoned their feet to tread
Midst the cruel rocks, where the deep pitfall
And the lurking snare are spread.

Maybe, in spite of their tameless days
Of outcast liberty,
They ’re sick at heart for the homely ways
Where their gathered brothers be.

And oft at night, when the plains fall dark
And the hills loom large and dim,
For the shepherd’s voice they mutely hark,
And their souls go out to him.

Meanwhile, “Black sheep! black sheep!” we cry,
Safe in the inner fold;
And maybe they hear, and wonder why,
And marvel, out in the cold.
