Then they started pulling me in and I was very resistant. All the other actors would be saying write more, more dialogue for me, and I'd always be saying 'No, less, less'.

Seeing My Acting
Seeing me can be a different issue,
Hearing me delivers your sound as well.
Painfully, my sight is drawn to the other side,
By reading the pages of a book called theatre.
The cold air in this arena makes me shiver foolishly,
Actors betray us when they speak of another dialogue,
The dialogue is in fiction, dialogues are meaningful.
My seeing reduces the other side, this rainbow,
This lights my stage, in a manner of majesty.
The seeing of me is like a simple direction
To the right of the stage that is a performance.

I like actors that are good with pantomime and that can transmit a lot by their presence and attitude more than through their dialogue.

I landed a job with Roger Corman. The job was to write the English dialogue for a Russian science fiction picture. I didn't speak any Russian. He didn't care whether I could understand what they were saying; he wanted me to make up dialogue.

I love involving actors at all levels - and they have to know that I want to hear their contributions, with dialogue, with story suggestions, with script changes, whatever.

There is a strange pecking order among actors. Theater actors look down on film actors, who look down on TV actors. Thank God for reality shows, or we wouldn't have anybody to look down on.

It made me alive to the fact that the most important thing sometimes is what isn't said - to prepare for moments of revelation that can be read entirely on actors' faces without dialogue.

The Greed Of The Boy At The Candy Store
greed is as young as a little boy in the candy store
whose only dialogue is this and that and that too and this too
he points again to this and this and that and that too
while pulling his mama's shirt
and looking at every jar arrayed before
his eyes all wide open
like a flash of the lighthouse
one dark night
on the vast sea

Faded Pages
Recently I started retyping
a manuscript of short stories
I had written twenty years ago.
The pages were faded;
too much time being opened to the sun.
As I typed, I smiled
at the things I had written
and the dialogue I had created.
The stories are about a cat
and looking at the world
through his eyes and thoughts.
I had even created him a language
that I had to write a glossary
at the back of the book to explain
what some of the phrases meant.
There is a vast array of characters
and most have a funny turn.
I also remember what prompted me
to write the stories long ago.
My original intention was to write
one story and one story only,
but a friend of mine at the time
persuaded me to write another and another.
Before long, a volume was finished
with enough stories to start another.
From a one off story I have written over sixty now
about the cat and all his friends.
Now as I flick through these faded pages,
which I haven’t read in years,
I find myself being reunited
with many long lost friends.

I think one of the coolest things about the job is the level of trust we have for each other. The actors fully trust that the writers will write amazing episodes, and the writers trust that the actors will follow their instincts with the characters.

You can think of Hollywood as high school. TV actors are freshmen, comedy actors are maybe juniors, and dramatic actors - they're the cool seniors.

The Work Resistant Man
The knockers pigeon hole him as the work resistant man
And they say he has never worked and that work not in his future plan
And that he's one of those people who is softened from welfare
Just one of the bone lazy his type are everywhere.
But Mrs Blake the old age pensioner with them would not agree
He built her garden fence for her and his services were free
She could not afford to pay him but he said that is okay
And she will tell you men like him are very rare today.
On old John the octogenarian the years now taking toll
He cannot afford to pay for to mow his grass due to circumstances beyond his control
But the so called work resistant man he works for him for free
And John will tell you that there is no greater man than he.
He works for poor aged people who struggle to get by
And he never asks for money he is that sort of a guy
And though to work for wealthy factory boss not in his future plan
He is not what you would call a work resistant man.

Nine Voices
Anderson/squire/howe/white/sherwood/khoroshev
On a beach
North africa
Nine tribesmen stand alone
Waiting for a distant call
Waiting for the world to answer
Thru' the night of a thousand stars
Encircled by the light
They began to sing a new song
Of forces that surround us
Nine voices
This dialogue
Nine voices
Singing as one
Nine voices
This dialogue
Nine voices
When the sun came up they sang
As the perfect calendar says
Each had the power of people
Speaking new languages
They gave forgiveness meaning
New ways of letting go
Each child is born for greatness
With forces that surround them
This voice
This dialogue

Singing as one

The Beginning
It all started with simple exchange of words,
It all became a sweet dialogue,
I knew exactly i loved you,
I doubted exactly that you feel the same,
I hesitated to admit my love,
As though i was out,
Out to prove something,
Something to somebody,
Somebody who knew nothing at all
It all started with a simple i miss you,
It all became more than simplicity,
From i miss you to i love you,
From wanting you to needing you,
The hesitation to admit im falling,
Falling never to rise again,
Rising again in this pool of love,
It all started with a simple kiss,
It all became a bag of intimacy,
My love i reflected to thee,
You became more and more attached,
Together we made it
It all started as a mere joke,
Needing you more,
Wanting myself less,
Marrying you as a wish,
To marrying you as reality,
And so shall it be
