It's the people who try to be clever who never are; the people who are clever never think of trying to be.

Clever People
Leave it to the clever people
From heaven and not hell;
The fair are there, like a forced crowd and audience,
The heavenly ones that are benign,
And the seas are thanked but by far
By the hellish people by far,
They are further in their evil now -
The mistresses are there, much drunk on wine of blood,
In the cogs of all time there is blood
From the celebrations of the good.
Leave it to the clever people.

In isolation
You lose your friend with whom you are clever.
They may not be clever enough to match.
They'd be clever enough to deduct you.
You will then end up in isolation.

What is that?
That is what
Why's it rye?
That is why
How was Dow?
That was how
When was ten?
That was when
You'd do that?
No, you'd do that!
You'd clear that?
No, you'd clear that!
You are smart
Yes, I'm smart
You are clever
Yes, I'm clever
You know what?
What to know?
I know that
So you know?
Am I smart?
No, you're not
Am I clever?
No, not ever
If you're smart
You don't bark
If you're clever
you don't hire

Most people tire of a lecture in 10 minutes clever people can do it in 5. Sensible people never go to lectures at all.

There Is A Backlash Passing
There is a backlash passing,
As if an eclipse comes to uncover.
Revealing less of a tolerance,
For excuses made for clever maneuvers.
People no longer hesitate,
To express their impatience.
There is a rise of agitation.
And a venting of displeasures meant.
There is a backlash passing,
As if an eclipse comes to uncover.
Revealing less of a tolerance,
For excuses made for clever maneuvers.
People are awkening,
From a sleep that had deceived.
And a demand for answers once smothered up...
Are breaking from the ranks of a conformity.
It is the economy that is doing it.
And the people want it known,
They are aware and conscious...
From a duping done that left them in a stupor bummed.

Words are like the spider's web: a shelter for the clever ones and a trap for the not-so-clever.
It takes a clever man to turn cynic and a wise man to be clever enough not to.

mother to little boy...'stupid boy.'
son to mother...'clever boy.'
mother to little boy 'stupid boy.'

The End
When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three,
I was hardly Me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.

The Knowledgeable One
They are not the brightest for to give them their due
And on his subject matter they did not have a clue
He seems a bit clever the older bloke said
To which his younger mate answered not right in the head.
Since he did seem a clever young person to me
With the older bloke's assumption I could only agree
And though I too not the brightest I was duly impressed
With one in his mid twenties who with knowledge is blessed.
The bloke in his thirties to the barmaid for another beer did call
With the knowledgeable one he did not seem impressed at all
And when the knowledgeable one had left the pub he turned to me to say
This bloke Socrates he was talking of who is he anyway?
His name is a name that I cannot recall
He cannot be famous he does not play football
I informed him the one of whom the clever one did speak
Is a long dead philosopher a legendary Greek.
He and his mate in his forties began to discuss Sunday's big game
Every player taking part they know them by name
Of football between them little they would not have known
Suppose like it is said of people to each their own.

Did It Again
Written: kylie minogue/ steve anderson/ david seaman
Clever girl
Think you are but you think too much
Shut down turn around
Dont look that way any more
Clever girl
Think you know but you dont know much
Try to make a move
Go to a different door
You know its all in your head
You better put that business to bed
By your fair hands of design you met with
The monster in your mind
You did it again
You did it again
Wont you listen to me when Im telling you its no good for you
Clever girl
Think youre right
But whats right from wrong?
Little miss genius
You make it hard on yourself
Clever girl
Youve got it all but youre all messed up
Time now turn around
Move onto something else
You know its all in your head
Youd better put that business to bed
What you see nobody sees
It only brings you to your knees
Clever girl
Think youre right
But whats right from wrong?
Little miss genius
You make it hard on yourself

A rather sure way to be cheated is to think one's self more clever than other people.
I saw young men, boys just out of school (Villanelle)
I saw young men, boys just out of school,
working men with university degrees
far too clever to be any anyone’s fool
being called up for war, being tossed into its whirlpool
set on fire and burning like a bunch of trees.
I saw young men, boys just out of school,
who over war did not drool
but hated every moment of it, men with great qualities
far too clever to be anyone’s fool
who’s lives were threaded out like from a spool,
treated like mere sediment, dregs, refuse, like lees.
I saw young men, boys just out of school,
in places flaming hot, icy cold wearing jerseys of wool,
praying, standing in the wilderness on their knees
far too clever to be any anyone’s fool
with pierced bodies draining in bloody pool after bloody pool
becoming the sons of Cain, the devils own employees
and I saw young men, boys just out of school,
far too clever to be any anyone’s fool.

Dull and Foolishness
Other people have more than enough
But I alone seem to have lost everything.
I am dull and foolish!
Other people are clear
While I alone am confused.
Other people are clever
While I am stupid.
I feel lost at sea,
Tossed about on the winds of a storm.
Everyone else has things to do
While I am dull and stupid.
But I am different from others.
I am nourished by the Great Mother.
