The abortion cases produced an enormous amount of mail to my chambers, vastly more than to the other chambers, I am sure. I sometimes thought there wasn't a woman in the United States who didn't write me a letter on one side or the other of that issue.

On Abortion

on abortion...
those who rage against abortion
most often do not put themselves
in the position of the mother.
while all of life is sacred,
there are times when abortion
becomes necessary.
when the mother's life is in danger,
in cases of rape,
in cases where the mother
cannot be the mother...
and only the mother-to-be
has the right to make this decision.
it is the woman's choice, bottom line.
we must educate ourselves
so that we know that all choices
have their costs...
again, it is the woman's choice.
abortion was never meant to be birth control,
but sometimes, it is the best option.
again, it is the woman's choice!

Did I Really See That?

A woman on our bed wearing my gown with ma woman
Sleeping on my side of the bed?
Am I replaced?
So quick?
I thought we were going to talk
About it
Try to work it out
I cancelled all my plans
In a manner to surprise you
I didn't like the way things went
The other day
And now I get home
To find this?

A woman on our bed
Wearing my gown with ma woman on ma side of da bed
Am I replaced?
Just like that?
I thought what we had meant
Something to you
I thought we had a connection
I thought fate had brought us
Together
I thought our future
Was written somewhere
In heaven
Most of all I thought the feeling
Was mutual
For 5years I was relaxed
Thinking I'm in the right place
Where my soul belongs
Wasn't looking
Wasn't searching
Was content
And now I find
A woman on our bed wearing my gown with ma woman
On my side of the bed
Am I replaced?
Already!
I had always been loyal
You cheated more than I could remember
And I kept forgiving n forgetting
I kept loving you like you
Never wronged me
I Kept on trusting you
but to you all that was just a blur
I bet you thought I was fool
I bet you thought I'd never leave you
I bet you thought you were ma life
That's why you cheated
That's why you lied
That's why now I find
A woman on our bed wearing my gown with ma woman
On my side of the bed
Am I replaced?
I know you are
I have ran out of tears
I cried for so long*difedile*
I have ran out of Forgiveness
I forgiven you more than the
Bibble Says I should
I have ran out of space for you
The place I used to keep you is shuttered
And I have ran out of love for you
What I thought was mine
Is now ours
What I thought I owned
It turned out
We own
What I thought was true to me
It was all a lie

A woman on our bed
Wearing my gown
With my woman
On my side of the bed
She can stay
I'll leave..

Your Dear John Letter

When you wrote me a letter
To tell me I'm better off without you

A tear ran down my face
I wiped it away
Before I thought anyone would see

I ripped the letter in little pieces
So no one would read it
But now I wished I didn't

I have nothing but your memory now
But that's slowly slipping away

And if you died
I probably wouldn't cry about it
Because I cried enough for you
In the last couple of years

I guess when you told me
I was better off in the letter
I didn't believe you then

But now I know
That best thing you ever did
Was to write the letter
That broke my heart that fateful day

Such a Terrible Thing.

That would be such a terrible
Thing she said seeing morning
Come through the window like
Some peeping Tom if he was to
Write and say he didn’t want to
Meet and that he never loved
Me at all or indeed in the first
Place that it was all just pretence
And she waited each day for his
Letter to come saying precisely
That saying what she thought a
Terrible thing written in his neat
Hand with that hard pushed down
Period at the end of the last sentence
And with the absence of those crosses
Of kisses at the bottom of the page
And she lifted her head to the day
Coming through her window wondering
If the mailman would be late or if
Maybe he was on his way and maybe
He knew what the letter would say
And was on his way to deliver like some
Ancient messenger with news of some
Raging war or battle lost and it would
Be a terrible thing she thought if he did
Say those things if he did write them down
And she didn’t know how she would cope
If he did wasn’t sure if she could keep her
World intact wasn’t sure she could cling
On each morning as the sunlight seeped
Its way through to her room and touched
Her bed and skin and head maybe she
Thought he’ll say he loves me and write it
In his fine words and hand with those kisses
Like birds in flight at the bottom of the page
Otherwise she said it would be a terrible thing
For the traitorous two-faced mailman to bring.

Emily Chambers

Emily Chambers would make it pay
Everyone knew she'd turn out that way
She turned her back and she'll be okay
But she's not okay at all

Every night with the radio on
Emily fears that the day won't come
The moon is there to do her harm
She's not all right at all

Don't get arrested
Don't buy a machine gun
You're on the run
And you're not on the scene
You're not so cool
And you're not a jerk
You may be a villain
But no Patty Hearst
You're Emily Chambers
And what's worse
Is a whipping wind
And a box in a hearse
And a trigger in your head
And a pen in your hand
And the pain in the verse
And the flat drying land
And the thin of the air
And a pain that hurts
You're Emily Chambers in the universe

(Repeat first verse)

Every night with the lamplight on
Emily fears that the day has gone
The moon is there to do her harm
She's not all right at all

(Repeat chorus)

Emily Chambers would make it pay
Everyone knew she'd turn out that way...

The Human Heart

O' heart, I wonder how you can store
so many different emotions of ours
in just thy four puny chambers
while pumping away the liquid of life

O' heart in you we discover love
but side by side you harbour hate
in you we find the emotion of happiness
but side by side you harbour rage!

When you cease to beat many plans you thwart
May God protect the young human heart

And while some O' heart you hold dear
some make you skip a beat in fear!

O' heart but we find in you as well
the bad bad emotion of jealousy
Such a potpourri of emotions in you dwell
Help filter out any wrong ones for me!

A mere four chambers indeed but spacious are they
invite therein whomsoever in the world you may

But in the end forget not to reserve
atleast a single chamber for its Creator, to preserve

Write Me A Letter

Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
Im goin away (yes it has)
Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
Im goin away (yes it is)
Well Ive been away forever
Suicides crossin my mind
Well Ill never, never get so far behind
I said, the ways of the night are evil
Without that lord of day
But Ill never, never get so far away
I said write me
Write me
Write me
Write me
I said write me
Write me
Write me
Well theres nothin I can see
Thatd ever make me
Want to be without her
Shes good, she good to me
Said theres no way to explain
The kind of feelin that you get out in the
She good, she good to me
She good, she good to me
I love her
Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
Im goin away (yes it has)
Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
Im goin away (yes it is)
Well Ive been away forever
Suicides crossin my mind
Well Ill never, never get so far behind
Well Ive been so many places
Hidin from the wind and the rain
But you could write me a letter
For to save me from goin insane
Write me
Excite me
Write me
Write me
Write me

Chambers (Funeral Home and Crematorium) House of Horrors

Forty body bags thrown atop with each other
Labeled for cremation
Among them were women, men, children, fathers, mothers, sister and brothers
To be burnt to ash, that was their destination,
All rested inside a garage
Bodies decomposing
Their bodies leaked fluids through the bag
I guess they were not Zip-Lock bags
The funeral home had a contract with Georgetown Medical School,
William Chambers said that things were in disarray
What a frickin' fool!
His brother Tom denied any culpability
For this unsanitary, immoral, and most likely illegal fray.
Some of the bag tags were unidentifiable
Due to the immense leakage from the inside
The smell must've been grotesquely foul
Yet the Chambers Brothers did something wrong, you ask?
They flatly denied.
The mortuary license the Chambers had had been suspended last Friday
They have to cremate the bodies that they have in their possession
A&E should do a 'Hoarding' special series on Chambers Brothers.
So much for this observation.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken?

(Simon)
Why don\\\\\\\'t you write me
I\\\\\\\'m out in the jungle
I\\\\\\\'m hungry to hear you
Send me a card
I am waiting so hard to be near you
Something is wrong and I know I got a feelin\\\\\\\'
Maybe I\\\\\\\'m lost but I can\\\\\\\'t make the cost of the airfare
Tell me why, tell me why
Why don\\\\\\\'t you write me
A letter would brighten my loneliest evening
Mail it today if it\\\\\\\'s only to say
That you\\\\\\\'re leaving me
Why don\\\\\\\'t you write
Monday morning sitting in the sun
Hopin\\\\\\\' and wishin\\\\\\\' that the mail would come
Tuesday I never got a word
Wednesday,, Thursday ain\\\\\\\'t no sign
Drank a half a bottle of iodine
Friday, woe is me
I\\\\\\\'m gonna hang my body from the highest tree
Why don\\\\\\\'t you write me
Why don\\\\\\\'t you write me

Write by Return

Clerk, corresponding,
“Rooster and Comb”,
Here I sit idle
“Thinking of home”;
I must be grafting—
Living to earn,
More correspondence,
“Write by return.”

Clerk in employ of
“Shoddy and Woods”,
Thinks that we have not
Forwarded goods.
Parcel we sent them—
Missing, I learn,
Says in his postscript:
“Write by return.”

Here is another
Letter from Bland—
“Cheque he expected
Isn’t to hand.”
How we forgot it
Cannot discern,
“Forward remittance,
Write by return.”

Here is another—
O how they come?
Treats of a “Bender”
Planned by a chum.
See on the margin,
Big letters: “Burn
After perusal—
Write by return.”

Mail in from England,
Letters for me—
Dear little sweetheart
Over the sea.
“Quite broken-hearted,
O how I yearn
Only to see you. . . .
Write by return.”

One who will “never
Think that I’m bad”
Writes me a letter
Tearful and sad.
Thinks that I’m starving,
Filled with concern,
Sends me some money—
“Write by return.”

Letter from father,
Sent to his son,
“All is forgiven—
Fat calf for one.”
O that I ever
Thought he was stern—
Money for passage—
Write by return.

Youll Get It In The Mail Today

Ive been up all night
Ive been writing this letter
And I think I might have found a better way
To tell you all the things Ive got to say
I put it in writing and youll get it in the mail today
Well I dont know but I cant help feeling
That you got to stop your double-dealin ways
Cheatin on me is a crime that never pays
And thats all in the letter and youll get it in the mail today
Well I would tell you to your face
But youd just lie to me
Put you in your place
But youd just try to defy me
Been up all night
Pencil and a paper
And I think I might have found a safer way
Say goodbye without much more delay
Well its all in the letter and youll get it in the mail today
I dont mean tomorrow
Its all in the letter and youll get it in the mail today
I dont mean no western union
Its all in the letter and youll get it in the mail today
