I wanted to improve the suburban office building; to create a great urban space in a suburban environment with all that implies about interaction, collaboration and creativity.

Suburbia
Lost in the high street, where the dogs run
Roaming suburban boys
Mothers got a hairdo to be done
She says theyre too old for toys
Stood by the bus stop with a felt pen
In this suburban hell
And in the distance a police car
To break the suburban spell
Lets take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
You cant hide, run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
Break the window by the town hall
Listen, the siren screams
There in the distance, like a roll call
Of all the suburban dreams
Lets take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
You cant hide, run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
I only wanted something else to do but hang around
I only wanted something else to do but hang around
I only wanted something else to do but hang around
I only wanted something else to do but hang around
Its on the front page of the papers
This is their hour of need
Wheres a policeman when you need one
To blame the colour tv?
Lets take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
You cant hide, run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
Take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
You cant hide, run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
Run with the dogs tonight
In suburbia
You cant hide
In suburbia
In suburbia

Urban Effusion
the greys of the city
lingered and deepened
in its aged structures
a mature effusion
beneath wearing rain
and wind and sun
an elemental artistic
achievement visualising
the demise of urban
reality
here and there
within the inner city
pockets of concrete
and synthetic blossoms
brightened the shadows
of ancient abodes
reminiscent of the
floriferous space
of the suburban
environment...
beneath
a puniceous sky
the new and the old
stood solitary

Busy Town
Suburban streets filled with baseball hats
People living in suburban flats
Cobweb shops filled with queues
People rushing round wearing out shoes
They are all rushing by
No one sees me cry
Car in jams at intersections
On corners people taking collections
Suburban garages filled with little cars
And people smoking big cigars
Archways hanging over loos
While cars pass in lines of twos
People pass with blind eyes
Telling stories in their sighs
Parking meters in military lines
Traffic wardens handing out fines
Suburban underground thoroughfares
Factories smoking skyward airs
Crowded corporation buses
Corner fish ‘n’ chips shops selling husses
Dozens of stuff collared shirts
Caught up in office works
Poor Porter on the trains
Trying to help passengers who complain
The busy town ignores
All who live in there
It turns its back
On old and young
And keeps its song
Hidden away and unsung
(date written unknown)

Win Some Lose Some
We didnt think itd last beyond summeri met her father she met my mother
We didnt have anywhere else to goshe said to me when we grow older
Will we still need young love on our shouldersdoes it just fade away, will we ever know?
She touched my face and called me her loveri never thought that Id need another
Your cool suburban sunyoure foolin every oneyou win some you lose some
I didnt know what we had foundjust caught the bus and rode it to town
She wouldnt notice anything else but me
Your cool suburban sunyoure foolin every oneyou win some you lose some
Dancing at discos, and moaning at phone bills
Torremolinos and sun burnt in high heelsswap it and sell it and drop it and smell itall those years ago
She touched my face and called me her loveri never thought that Id need another
Your cool suburban sunyoure foolin every oneyou win some you lose some
Your cool suburban sunyoure foolin every oneyou win some you lose some
Now its gone, now its gone, you win some, you lose some
Now its gone, now its gone, you win some, you lose some
Now its gone, now its gone, you win some, you lose some
Now its gone, now its gone, you win some, you lose some
Win some

Moving Out
the lasting sound of a shrieking wind
i'm taking my time by the subway train
the ache in me from a night before
i'm taking a ride to suburban plains
i'm looking for a face to compare mine with
only to find them staring back at me
cruel is the morning that i face right now
people and they're moving out
oh my head
i'm coping with the ache
and i see
i try hard to look alive
stepping out in a distant zone
i'm taking my ride to suburban plains
i couldn't care less if i miss the train
i've never been here, but i know my way
oh my head
but i'm coping with the ache
and i see
i try hard to look alive
and i know
i've been here so many times
yes i know
i had deal just one more time
can you hear me now
and i'm always on your mind
and you know
how i've missed suburban rides
(oh yeah)
the one that i miss
the one that i miss

None That We Deemed Qualified
When an environment sustains,
An on the verge of 'potential' level and remains there...
With few gains developed to move forward for decades.
And stays unchanged and stagnant...
As if in a holding pattern awaiting to land.
While seen behind the scenes are discovered...
Those chosen and recommended,
And employed to be the best of innovators...
Overheard in their debates,
What they believe it will take to benefit the environment.
With a diversity much like that which is enjoyed,
And found in their suburban communities.
To produce within an urban center to replicate 'their' comforts.
At the expense of destroying the flavor and relocating the people,
Who created the popularity of the environment in the first place.
With a luxurizing done believed to appeal to those seeking,
Bits and teases of variety, a few ethnic faces and a cultural display...
Of diverse and accepted cuisine.
'This project is nearing completion,
And no one has expressed and interest in it at all.'
~Who was on the committee? ~
'Doctors, lawyers and ivy league school scholars.'
~Anyone from the local community? ~
'None that we deemed qualified with 'our' vision.'
~Well...
Have you thought that the reason to be,
Your success at achieving overwhelming failure?
Just a thought.
You are catering to the 'people', aren't you? ~
'Well, yes.
A certain class of people.'
~Don't you think it strange that those 'class' of people,
Find your attempts to attract them...
Boring? ~

A simple open plan,

But with lots of space for entertaining!

Suburban satisfaction
Suburban satisfaction
~
A small northern town
Built on industry and mining
Slowly dying, over populated
People meander through life
Holding down jobs and family
A few dream to get away
To better the choices on offer
Others have long given up
Tired of pretending in faith
The streets littered, stand vacant
Crying out for attention
The bars crammed with locals
All looking to be entertained
To talk about the same old stories
That can be heard down the road
There are a few lights to be seen
How long will they shine
Before they succumb to expectation
And find themselves suffocating
In a small northern town
Of suburban satisfaction

I Think You Dropped Something
Is it possible to get even more,
Flagrantly fragmented?
Is it?
Is it not clear enough or obvious,
An inconsistency is so prevalent...
Those once hooked and addicted to drugs,
Are now getting their minds much higher...
On what is going on around them,
They are no longer seeking for escapes...
To mentally drift away.
Not today!
They can experience total disbelief,
Without the aid of mental stimulants...
Just by walking along any street,
Urban or suburban...
To see people who are further out of their minds,
Than any narcotic they have 'ever' tripped on.
'Excuse me,
But I think you dropped something.
It looks like a bag of weed.'
~Trust me.
I didn't accidently dropp it.
If you want it,
There it is.~

Penny Lane
(LennonMcCartney)
In Penny Lane there is a barber showing photographs
Of every head he's had the pleasure to know
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say hello
On the corner is a banker with a motorcar
The little children laugh at him behind his back
And the banker never wears a mack
In the pouring rain, very strange
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit, and meanwhile back
In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass
And in his pocket is a portrait of the queen
He likes to keep his fire engine clean
It's a clean machine
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
A four of fish and finger pies
In summer, meanwhile back
Behind the shelter in the middle of a roundabout
The pretty nurse is selling poppies from a tray
And though she feels as if she's in a play
She is anyway
In Penny Lane the barber shaves another customer
We see the banker sitting waiting for a trim
And then the fireman rushes in
From the pouring rain, very strange
Penny lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit, and meanwhile back
Penny lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
Penny Lane

Whose Blame?
'A woman's work is never done,'
Said she.
'From dawn to setting of the sun,'
Said she.
'I toil and moil and work and slave,
And do my best to pinch and save,
And yet you say I don't behave,'
Said she.
And twenty men in twenty carts
In that suburban street
Long, long before the daylight starts
Are setting out with cakes and tarts
And fish and milk and meat
And cauliflowers, beans and bread
What time my lady lies in bed.
'All day I have to live alone,'
Said she.
'Attending to the door or 'phone,'
Said she.
'While you go gaily into town
To meet your friends, I want a gown,
A hat! This life has got me down,'
Said she.
And twenty men when day is done,
In that suburban street,
Who have performed the task of one
(If things more orderly were done),
Drive back along their beat. . .
It seems absurd. But, all the same,
Is it my lady who's to blame,
For all these economic cares,
Or just man's muddling of affairs?
