Thr Railroad Tracks

Who lived across the railroad tracks?
A few of us whites, but mostly blacks.
These railroad tracks without even knowing
separated my town and kept it growing
into a segregated place.

I used to listen for the sound of the train.
As it rolled on by, it would never remain.
It just kept rolling to where it was going.
The engineer waved. The smoke kept blowing
into a segregated place.

Even when the trains stopped the rolling
the tracks will still there. They were controlling
the thinking of the people in our town.
So they kept the tracks there, never tore them down
in our segregated place.

Some were on the right side of the tracks, you see.
Some were on the wrong side of the tracks, like me.
They never took the tracks down from 60 years ago.
And the town I grew up in doesn't want to know
it's a segregated place.

Thoughts And Keys (Continued)

bottom line...
life is a gift.
what authenticates the gift
is the giving!

love is a trail of tiny sacrifices
made over small fires at night
to an unseen god.

the word 'god' is a failure,
much less the concept.
we try to define the ocean,
and cant contain the wave!

prejudice, our greatest weakness,
comes from the fear of seeing
the sameness in all the colors
of the rainbow.

the Freedom Riders took on
the segregated south in the sixties...
we need freedom riders now,
unafraid of beatings,
unafraid of prison,
committed at all costs.
for we face a deeper segregation now,
nationwide... the elite
segregated from the rest of us...
the many segregated from the few.
the gulf of hatred and abuse is wide...
this is what makes the Occupy Movement
so important!

If I belong to a tradition, it is a tradition that makes the masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the composer what he ought to have composed.

If it's total freedom, I guess the ultimate thing you can go into is total silence between the audience and performer, with the performer projecting something he doesn't even have to play.

I have always been a Laugher, disturbing people who are not laughers, upsetting whole audiences at theatres … I laugh, that's all. I love to laugh. Laughter to me is being alive. I have had rotten times, and I have laughed through them. Even in the midst of the very worst times I have laughed.

The Solo Performer

Light dims down to semidarkness
And we wrinkle our eye corners.
Our cloudy vision through a billowy
Dusty curtain picks the figures shadowy.
The performer begins biting the bass.
No accompaniments. His own' super-cell' harmony.
Very conceited the performer overdoes becoming gloomy
And the concert cracks along the octaves
With the burbling sound of notes.
Unbalanced, lo, he becomes angry
And now with dismantled beats and bangs
The performer kicks, rolls, and scrolls
Sounding screaming, crackling, creaky, croaky
With all that improper concerto music squawky
Toppling you and me in thundery shivers.
Everything getting topped up in swirls
Yelling 'tornado tornado'and falling on each other
We run away from that killer twister
Guarding ourselves from that shearing windstorm!

A critic, an imposer

A critic is a non-performer,
Who makes or mars a performer.
A critic is a non-producer,
Who makes or mars one’s products.

Annalese At The Cottage

Dancing at The Cottage with Annalese

she is my big Sis with dark hair like my niece.

Annalese and me dance to the music

-around the time of eight-

nobody is on the floor but us which is great!

We dance then Ginger comes in

she is Annalese's good friend.

It is Ginger's birthday and Annalese

made a great original gift—

Ginger loves it, it is very precious.

Also at The Cottage, Jimmy the owner is there

grooving cool music fills the air.

Then a special performer takes the stage

she sings her song while dancing away.

Singing performer has a little guy on her lap—

Performer asks him questions-

which makes us all laugh.

Then the night comes to a close

I walk to my bike with Annalese

say goodbye and ride safely home.

Perform to become a monk and yogi

We perform our duties
Assigned to us
More often than not
Either with anxiety or expectation
Over the rewards or otherwise
Of the product
This ends up with
Either not meeting the requirements
Of the beneficiaries or customers
Or in presenting them with a product
That is beyond their expectations
Both ways
The beneficiary or customer
Accepts the product of our efforts
With a certain bit of reluctance

Krishna talks about a performer
Who performs for the sake of
Performing only
With no anxiety or expectation
On the rewards or otherwise
Of the performance

He says such a performer can also be called
A monk, who, in fact, renounced all
Result-oriented action
And he is also a yogi
Well focused and involved
In what is being performed

Krishna further adds such a person
Should not be categorized as the one
With no fire of desire
For innovation, improvement and
Envisioning and for developing
Systems that will prevent possible
Deviations from the product quality

Such a performer
Should also be not categorized as the one
With no sensitivity
And reacting sense to
Take corrective actions
With regard to process flow
In case a beneficiary or customer comes up
With a complaint on the product
For its non performance
And for its non-conforming to
Specifications desired by him or her

London nights

Fresh summer evenings, shop windows, fancy dresses,
theatres buzzing with crowds,
coffee aroma from cafe doorways.

It could be the middle of the day in London,
it's a city of magic, a city of the night
as the West End awakes.

Lovers walk hand in hand in brightly lit streets.
bars harbour young dudes bubbling
to find romance or just sex.

I slow the car to watch a crowd gather as they
spot a street performer do his thing
and then I speed away.

If you look into the shadows you'll see tramps,
working girls, wayward teens with knives
and empty eyes.

Alongside the rich walk the poor and needy,
the gap is cavernous, shameful
and as they struggle others thrive.

One hand of black jack at The Sportsman
would buy a meal for them but the profit
all goes on the ‘black', a roll of the dice.

It's not nice but that's London life,
take the good with the bad
and hang on to the light.

The Cottage With Annalese

Dancing at The Cottage with Annalese
she is my big Sis with dark hair like my niece.
Annalese and me dance to the music
-around the time of eight-
nobody is on the floor except Mouse which is great!
It brings back memories past when I danced to
"Don't Stop ‘til You Get Enough"
which was a blast!
Mouse is dancing on the floor to the beat
I go up to Louis the D.J. very discreet
and ask him to play my favorite dance song
Lois nods and before long
I am with Mouse on the floor
all eyes are on us which no one can ignore.
Annalese hangs out with Ginger her good friend-
Annalese gives Ginger an original birthday gift.
Then Annalese and Ginger get on the floor
and we all dance like never before.
