What is man without the beasts If all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the beasts, soon happens to man. All things are connected.

Are you heard?
God forbids men to kill men.
God permits men to kill beasts.
Men are saved and not the beasts.
Don’t they pray to God, as do men?
Hasn’t God listened to them?
Aren’t they as much to Him?
Neither you nor the beasts are heard
It is your misplaced inference

Pacidy
1970. officially unreleased.
Pacidy, my love
Glowing ember of evening
Your eyes are frozen with guilt
I read my fate on your cheeks
The smoldering coals of a passion
Once a meadow of hope
Days of minstrels and bright steeds
Autumn nights and silk sheets
Your tender battle shadow on me
Scented lavender kiss-es, soft and warm
The union of strength in a love against life
Love against life
Pacidy, my love
Your touch, so limp, was once frenzied
Your argon lips were once sweet
A life has slipped through my hands
My spirits sift in a stale sigh
Did love exist as a dream?
Mother fawn of a pine wood
Shepherdess of my grief
Veils a freedom not for me
Far beyond the steep ridge, where blizzards
Blast the spirit of man, the frailest of beasts
Frailest of beasts
Where blizzards
Blast the spirit of man, the frailest of beasts
Frailest of beasts
Where blizzards
Blast the spirit of man, the frailest of beasts
Frailest of beasts

Bizarre Beasts
Bizarre beasts are breezy once laughing,
Clean and clear are their arts forever;
Clever maps are driven, forming an illness,
Deafening the ears of the traveller.
A devilish grin arouses the beasts around,
The colossal weather-changes bear fruit
For all the cloudy scene, when animals roar
And beam on the lesser variety, forever.
I am an eminent believer in beasts that travel,
Boring boldness accepts their heads of work,
For the descriptive edge arrives, well ahead,
Demonic and different are the classes of their travel.

Orfeo
Orfeo shone.
He shone as music shines.
His shining, not the beauty of his radiant body;
it was the shining beauty of his humility.
And his humility – sometimes like gold,
sometimes like purest, deepest Maryblue -
the colour where the sky meets with infinity,
meets with eternity.
His humility, like hers, drew all things good:
and as you walked with him, all things were good:
the mountains, trees, and rocks and stones –
all things that do not move and cannot smile,
sang music to the heart, which smiled;
all moving things were drawn to him:
the wildest and most murderous beasts,
and beasts that look like men, or men like beasts;
some like vegetables that move…
all came to him, rubbed their heads against his legs,
licked his hands (were there the scars of wounds?) :
licked his feet (there too, the scars?) :
it was his fragrance that they recognised:
in the memory of these wildest beasts
deep in ancestral bones, the memory
of Adam’s fragrance, when he named each beast.
That fragrance is humility: that draws
the music of all things in heaven and earth:
draws heavenly space, and mountain air,
and fire of Sun itself, and water sparkling
as it springs from rocks;
the fragrance of fresh-turned, rich earth;
Orfeo shines.
he shines – as music shines.

Here Lies America!
standing in front of the
headstone that reads:
'here lies America,
home of the free and brave,
hard work and capitalism...
ran with the beasts of profit,
till the beasts turned on them,
and swallowed their souls....
here lies America!
ashes to ashes...
.......... dust to dust! '

Sonnet: Prayer Helps in Adversity
If you are thrown into a lion’s den,
The hungry beasts will surely you devour;
Pray to the Lord who saves you from beasts/ men
Of evil, even in the eleventh hour.
If you’re out-numbered by many bad men,
Who want to take revenge on you for sure,
Pray to the Lord and He’ll protect you when
You Say, ‘make my heart chaste and my soul pure.’
When if your fight ‘gainst evil succeeds not,
Just like a snail, return into your shell;
God reinforces and protects your Lot,
And very soon, all things will end quite well.
When Hope is like a tap without water,
Pray to the Lord, He will surely cater.

The Elephant Is Slow to Mate
The elephant, the huge old beast,
is slow to mate;
he finds a female, they show no haste
they wait
for the sympathy in their vast shy hearts
slowly, slowly to rouse
as they loiter along the river-beds
and drink and browse
and dash in panic through the brake
of forest with the herd,
and sleep in massive silence, and wake
together, without a word.
So slowly the great hot elephant hearts
grow full of desire,
and the great beasts mate in secret at last,
hiding their fire.
Oldest they are and the wisest of beasts
so they know at last
how to wait for the loneliest of feasts
for the full repast.
They do not snatch, they do not tear;
their massive blood
moves as the moon-tides, near, more near
till they touch in flood.

Sonnet: Clouds of Changes!
Great clouds of changes loom upon the earth;
Like hungry lions, pow’rful nations prowl,
In search of newer prey of recent birth,
To devour by tactics always foul!
But, lions are not always courageous!
They threaten new-born ewes and kids and foals;
They dare not hunt adult beasts treacherous;
At times, they stoop to eat wild-dogs in holes!
Should not such lions question their valor?
Should they not choose equals to challenge then?
Should they keep roaring at beasts in dolor?
A lion should not live out of its den!
Yet, Wild dogs too can chase lions away!
Though powerful, a fool must lose some day.

New Prince New Pomp
Behold, a seely tender babe
In freezing winter night
In homely manger trembling lies;
Alas, a piteous sight!
The inns are full, no man will yield
This little pilgrim bed,
But forced he is with seely beasts
In crib to shroud his head.
Despise him not for lying there,
First, what he is enquire,
An orient pearl is often found
In depth of dirty mire.
Weigh not his crib, his wooden dish,
Nor beasts that by him feed;
Weigh not his mother's poor attire
Nor Joseph's simple weed.
This stable is a prince's court,
This crib his chair of state,
The beasts are parcel of his pomp,
The wooden dish his plate.
The persons in that poor attire
His royal liveries wear;
The prince himself is come from heaven;
This pomp is prized there.
With joy approach, O Christian right,
Do homage to thy king;
And highly prize his humble pomp
Which he from heaven doth bring.

Sonnet: The Old Well
The well that had given water to drink
For years and quenched the thirst of travelers;
With whose water, they’d bathed the beasts which stink,
Which flowed into the fields ‘yond for farmers.
The well that served for centuries thus,
Men and beasts and fields, not knowing their caste;
And continued to give water to us,
Perennially that was so sweet to taste.
The well of our ancestors, no more used,
Lies in ruins now and is very deep;
The corpse was found of a young man who ‘as killed!
Thrown into the well and made people weep.
The well that had given sweet water to drink,
It has now snakes, stones, garbage, corpses that stink.

Chirping Monsters
He was chirping like an escaped bird,
Wings were aloft in the stations
Suppressing time and its quality
From the start to the finish,
He was chirping like a poetic disorder
As the birds sing and the monsters linger.
Senseless, the redundant beasts have furnished
The earth with its crust,
And the bird's flight shall shine, shovelling the air
With both beaks after both wings.
The flight fades away in fighting fairness,
Eating entrances for the terrors
Inside tense beasts and limbs.
The monsters shake after attacks,
Inside the life we have run accordingly.

We Are All Captured Beasts
We are all captured beasts,
And we howl - as we might.
We can't open the doors,
For the doors are locked tight.
If our hearts can remember tradition,
When our barking brings solace, we bark.
We don't know. Long ago we've forgotten
That it stinks badly in this zoo-park.
For our hearts can accept repetition;
Bored and weary, we cuckoo our song.
For the zoo is impersonal, habitual;
We've not longed to be free for so long.
We are all captured beasts,
And we howl - as we might.
We can't open the doors,
For the doors are locked tight.

The Departing of Gluskâp
It is so long ago; and men well-nigh
Forget what gladness was, and how the earth
Gave corn in plenty, and the rivers fish,
And the woods meat, before he went away.
His going was on this wise.
All the works
And words and ways of men and beasts became
Evil, and all their thoughts continually
Were but of evil. Then he made a feast.
Upon the shore that is beside the sea
That takes the setting sun, he ordered it,
And called the beasts thereto. Only the men
He called not, seeing them evil utterly.
He fed the panther's crafty brood, and filled
The lean wolf's hunger; from the hollow tree
His honey stayed the bear's terrific jaws;
And the brown rabbit couched at peace, within
The circling shadow of the eagle's wings.
And when the feast was done he told them all
That now, because their ways were evil grown,
On that same day he must depart from them,
And they should look upon his face no more.
Then all the beasts were very sorrowful.
It was near sunset, and the wind was still,
And down the yellow shore a thin wave washed
Slowly; and Gluskâp launched his birch canoe,
And spread his yellow sail, and moved from shore,
Though no wind followed, streaming in the sail,
Or roughening the clear waters after him.
And all the beasts stood by the shore, and watched.
Then to the west appeared a long red trail
Over the wave; and Gluskâp sailed and sang
Till the canoe grew little, like a bird,
And black, and vanished in the shining trail.
And when the beasts could see his form no more,
They still could hear him, singing as he sailed,
And still they listened, hanging down their heads
In long row, where the thin wave washed and fled.
But when the sound of singing died, and when
They lifted up their voices in their grief,
Lo! on the mouth of every beast a strange
New tongue! Then rose they all and fled apart,
Nor met again in council from that day.

Sonnet: Is Man Worse Than Beasts
With poise and elegance, the cat sits long,
Eyeing the hole from which the rat comes out;
Though hours have passed and clock has said, ‘ding-dong, ’
The cat stays on unstirred, with tired snout.
With what deft moves, the lion hunts its prey,
By crouching long, amidst the tall Grasses!
What patience marks the mighty lions! Say,
’Twill chase the deer like wind across passes.
But man has learned this art better than beasts;
Without mercy, he can destroy his foes;
And o’er this victory, he sings and feasts;
Revenge brings man more foes and earthly-woes.
But beasts must hunt their food each day to live;
And man need not to beastly moods vent give.

Sonnet: God’s Infinite Love for Man
God gave the horses hooves; left man bare-foot!
The eagle claws but man’s fingers just nails;
So, horses trot/ gallop; man wears a boot;
The birds need claws while man pares/ grows if ails.
God gave some beasts four legs to walk and run;
But man, two hands and pow’r to speak out thoughts;
But beasts lie shelter-less in rain or sun;
Yet, man is wily changing others’ lots!
How blest is man much more than any beast!
Ungratefully, yet selfishly, he lives;
God’s love for man ensouled has never ceased;
Though man may err so often, God forgives.
Men know God’s love profound, Yet soul ignore;
Can man in sin get past the Heaven’s door?

Lusty Beasts
…LUST BEASTS
Little they care for orphans
Their lust violently blazing within their greedy woods
egoistically pouring their myriad sorts
On the little abandoned Janes
Parading their tents tight
audaciously breaking their storerooms
Spoiling the virginity of the innocent Carolinas they enjoy
Displaying the worthlessness of their brains they mind not
The slap is too soft I suppose
The spanners to fasten their zips have to be improved
Seven years behind bars is a joke your magistrate
We need spanners to fasten their belts
The lust beasts have no shame
Though warned they behave the same
Till they exhaust their November- December rains they will not stop
Their fervent entreaties are like gasoline tossed on a wild fire
Immersed deep in burning desires in the sheep’s fabric
masking mean faces in girls’ schools they parade as good Samaritans
Palm-oiling the poverty stricken Madalos with a little cash for HIV
Wake up lovers of justice
Let us break the silence and confer evil no room
The lust beasts should kiss the walls of frosty Maula.
