Almost every band has somebody who's the main songwriter and who has a vision, a very clear idea of how a song should be.

Songwriter
Im a songwriter and I know just where I stand
Im a songwriter, pen and paper in my hand
Get the words on the page
Please dont call me a sage,
Im a songwriter
Im a songwriter and I do it for a living
Im a songwriter and I write about men and women
I can write about love and the stars up above
Im a songwriter
Im a songwriter and Im hot on your trail
Im a songwriter and my cheques in the mail
I can move with the scene, I can make up a dream
Im a songwriter
Na na na nana, na na na nana
Im a songwriter I can do it for certain
Im a songwriter even do it when Im hurtin
And if it comes to the bit, have to write another hit
Im a songwriter
Im a songwriter I can put it in words
Im a songwriter and its not for the birds
I can spin you a yarn, its as long as my arm
Im a songwriter
Na na na nana, na na na nana
Im a songwriter
Na na na nana, na na na nana
Im a songwriter

Mr. Songwriter
Hey mr. songwriter
Write a song today
Sing to my baby
Who is going away
She is leaving on the evening plane
To where i don't know
Give me a song so sad that
She won't want to go
Now i am a songwriter
And i heard what you said
I'm going to write a song for you
Although love is dead
I know just how you feel and
Still i have to say
That if it doesn't make her stop then
Then i just turn away
I write the words
Make her cry
Make her sigh
Melody to make her see
Tomorrow but tomorrow she'll be gone
Hey mr. songwriter
Tell me what to do
She's gone away and left me now
For somebody new
I thought i could change her mind
But maybe i was wrong
Hurry up and wet your pen
And please sir don't be long
I write the words
Make her cry
Make her sigh
Melody to make her see
Tomorrow but tomorrow was too late

Join Together
When you here this sound a-comin,
Hear the drummers drumming,
I want you to join together with the band,
We dont move in any ticular direction,
And we dont make no collections,
I want you to join together with the band.
Do you really think I care,
What you read or what you wear,
I want you to join together with the band,
Theres a million ways to laugh,
And every ones a path,
Come on and join together with the band.
Everybody join together, I want you to join together,
Come on and join together with the band,
We need you to join together, come on and join together,
Come on and join together with the band.
You dont have to play,
You can follow or lead the way,
I want you to join together with the band,
We dont know where were going,
But the seasons right for knowing,
I want you to join together with the band.
Its the singer not the song,
That makes the music move along,
I want you to join together with the band,
This is the biggest band youll find,
Its as deep as it is wide,
Come on and join together with the band,
Hey hey hey hey hey hey, well everybody come on.
Come on and join, join together with the band,
We need you to join together, everybody come on,
Hey hey hey, join together with the band.

Sure Hit Songwriter’s Pen
Now I was hangin' round Nashville writin' songs and playin' 'em for all of the stars
Watchin' 'em laugh and hand 'em back livin' on hope and Hershey bars
So I pawned my guitar and bought a ticket home and I's headin' for the Trailway bus
When I seen an old fountain pen laying in the gutter so I stopped and picked it up
It was worn-out bent and cast aside you know kinda sorta like myself
So I sat down on the curb and wrote a little song
That told the world how both of us felt
Then I run that song down to Music Row and before I had time to spit
It's pitched and sold and cut for a record
And moving up the charts and damn it's a hit
So I wrote me another winner then I wrote me a smash again
And I's a flyin' off the ground cause I knew I'd found me a sure hit songwriter's pen
So the songs they just kept a'pourin' out and the money kept pouring in
I just couldn't miss all it took was a twist of my sure hit songwriter's pen
Remember when I won the Grammy then I won it again and again
Well none of you knew that it was all due to my sure hit songwriter's pen
I was darling with all the ladies I was a hero among the men...
Making big dough working rodeos and TV shows me and my sure hit songwriter's pen
But then one night in Wichita I was just coming off of the stage
Folks all lined up and did crawl for my autograph Lord I was a national rage
One little freckled face girl was there she said I got no pencil sir
So I signed it with my songwriter's pen and then handed the pen back to her
Four o'clock that morning I wake up with the shakes and the bends
With terror in my eyes cause good God I realized I'd lost my sure hit songwriter's pen
I offered rewards in the papers I pleaded on the Sympathy Line
And a whole lotta folks and a whole lotta pens but none of them pen's was mine
So my songs got worse and my money ran out and so did all my so-called friends
And there was no doubt I was nothing without my long-lost sure hit songwriter's pen
So I rolled like a stone down old Skid Row where I feed my blues on wine
And I rest my chops in a two-bit flop and I tell my story for a drink or a dime
And I sleep with my shoes underneath my head and I dream about days back then
When I blazed my name across the sky with my sure hit songwriter's pen
Somewhere in Wichita some little girl who's a freckled face nine or ten
Is doing her arithmetic homework tonight with a sure hit songwriter's pen
God bless ya honey you got yourself my sure hit songwriter's pen

Even in the beginning, when we knew there was a legal argument about how much our song sounds like his song, as one songwriter to another, I wasn't sure that Cat Stevens would take that as bad.

The business today is completely different and it's very producer driven, so that a songwriter needs to have producing chops, be a singer/songwriter, or find a singer to develop.

Jesus Is The Main Man
Jesus is the main man.
That's it.
No more comments!
Jesus is the main man.
You can zip your parted lips, now!
Jesus is the main man.
Forget those pity stops at pits.
Jesus is the main man.
This you 'must' admit, now!
Jesus is the main man.
That's it.
No more comments on it made...
To degrade or say what else may fit.
Jesus is the main man.
Know this,
And get lifted quick!
Jesus is the main man.
Understand this as best you can.
Jesus is the main man.
Commanded when you pray,
Now!
Jesus is the main man.
That's it...
No need for further comments on it!
Jesus is the main man.
He's like a gift one gets,
To share unlimited!
Jesus is the main man.
It's hard to sit still,
When something received
Is known
To be real!

The band set up in January and just started rehearsing. If there was a song, we'd just rehearse it as a band, and it would get arranged as a band, and it got changed around a lot.
Clear Vision
O poet have a clear vision
Sooner or later you are dying
O poet have a participation
In this vibrant poetry community
Sooner or later you are dying
O poet you do not know minus
And you know only plus plus
Sooner or later you are dying
Here is your eyes here is sun
Here is bird here is song
O poet you are here with butterflies
You are here with the whirlwind
Sooner or later you are dying
O poet you are above you are below
You are behind you are a head
O poet this world is your garden
And you are blossoming here in passion
And you are making a story
O poet you have a clear vision
And you are here at this moment.

Same Old Song
And the band starts playing
The same old song again
The monks start praying
To the same God again
But He has grown,
He's grown tired
Maybe its time
That he retired
He's grown selfish,
He's grown Greedy
Bless the homeless
And the needy
And the band start playing
The same old song again
The old are still aging
Its new years eve again
But they've grown stupid,
They've grown lazy
They've grown senile,
and gone crazy
They've grown new cancers,
And suffer old ulcers
There are new medicines,
which might be the answer
And the band start playing
The same old song again
And here I am sitting
Back in that same chair again
You were cold,
and you were hearltless
Still you insist
that you are faultless
You are selfish
and you were cruel
How long must you torture
this young fool
And the band start playing
The same old song again
And when it ends
I press rewind again
I am drunk, and feel so sleepy
And in this room I'm feeling creepy
Maybe we sat here too long
Maybe I should stop listening
To our Old Song

Band On The Run
Stuck inside these four walls, sent inside forever,
Never seeing no one nice again like you,
Mama you, mama you.
If I ever get out of here,
Thought of giving it all away
To a registered charity.
All I need is a pint a day
If I ever get out of here.
Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash as we fell into the sun,
And the first one said to the second one there I hope youre having fun.
Band on the run, band on the run.
And the jailer man and sailor sam were searching every one
For the band on the run, band on the run, band on the run, band on the run
Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh seeing no one else had come,
And a bell was ringing in the village square for the rabbits on the run.
Band on the run, band on the run.
And the jailer man and sailor sam, were searching every one
For the band on the run, band on the run, band on the run, band on the run
Well, the night was falling as the desert world began to settle down.
In the town theyre searching for us every where, but we never w ill be found.
Band on the run, band on the run
And the county judge, who held a grudge
Will search for evermore
For the band on the run, band on the run, band on the run, band on the run

Then I came up with this crazy idea just to walk out on the stage with no band at all and just start singing whatever came to mind. I actually fought the idea for a while because it seemed almost too radical, but it became obvious what I was supposed to be doing.

An Idea
An Idea can change the world, how many
things can be done from an idea, every piece
of object was an idea, sense the beginning of
time idea was the first thought created in the
mind, an idea is what surround’s every being.
But an idea is still only an idea and it can't be
felt, you cannot touch an idea or kiss it, or hold it,
ideas do not bleed or feel pain or love, an idea
cannot be seen or heard, its created in our thoughts,
but then again an idea can become real. An idea
can be what ever you which it to be, an idea can
be destructive, an idea can be brilliant, I've seen
people get killed in the name of ideas, ideas,
we walk around with a little
light bulb blinking in our thoughts, ideas.

They want more production and they want it cheaper. But no matter what happens, the creative idea will be perpetuated by somebody who comes up with a vision. I don't care if there are three ceos - it takes one guy with an idea.
Driven To Succeed
To become the best, to achieve.
Behold! I hold the keys to my dreams.
My vision is clear, my path is in gear.
I see myself becoming one of thee best for many years.
A lawyer, a doctor, or what ever it may be.
Staying focused a main concern, I do believe.

One Man Band
Writers: leo sayer & david courtney
Well everybody knows down ladbrook grove
You have to leap across the street
You can lose your life under a taxi cab
You gotta have eyes in your feet
You find a nice soft corner and you sit right down
Take up your guitar and play
But then the law man comes says move along
So you move along all day
Well Im a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band
For three days now I havent eaten at all
My my you must be getting so thin
And soon my cap wont be large enough
To drop a half a crown in
So hey there mister dont you look so sad
Dont look so ill at ease
Well I can play you any song you like
To cheer up that life you lead
Well Im a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band
And oh oh oh look at the rain falling
Oh oh oh look at it rain
Oh look at it rain
Well nobody sees the minstrel boy as he sings his tale of woe
Nobody sees him coming
Nobody see him go
So hey there mister dont you look so sad
Dont look so ill at ease
Well I can play you any song you like
To cheer up that life you lead
Well Im a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band
Well Im a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band
Oh Im a one man band
Just a one man band
Oh Im a one man band
