I must say also that it's never worked to my disadvantage that I have long, blond hair.

So I Have Become The Middle Man

So I have become the middle man
In this world
And I have so much gray hair on my head
That I don't like at all
I love blond hair
And I find it to be so attractive in men
But the truth is that I have that ugly gray hair
That God gave me
For a reason

I am two fools

I am two fools, I know
One for loving the other for saying so
But where that wise man that I would not be
Deny, ignore, bury, build a wall, trench a moat and be like he
Then as the earth inward narrow crooked lanes
Do purge sea waters fretful salt away
I thought, if I could draw my pains
Through rimes of vexation I should them allay
Grief of love when brought to words cannot be so fierce
For he tames it whoever fetters it in verse

When I am dead and doctors know not why
State official authority their curiosity obey
Having me cut up to survey each part
When they shall find up your picture in my heart
A surge, a wave of love
Through their senses move
It will work on them as on me
So is the power of the picture of thee

Whoever comes to shroud me after butchery do not harm
Or question much
The subtle wreath of long blond hair which crowns my arm
Let it be, let it lie
As part of my body

When my grave broken up again
Some second guess or thought to entertain
And he the digs it, spies
Where my dry bones lie
The tuft of long blond hair wrapped around the bone
Shall have the dignity to leave it alone
And think without disturbance
There is a man wrapped with passion

Whether One Learns How to Climb or Jump

Those who say,
Children today who do not have the benefit...
Of growing up with both parents at home.
Or at least accountable and responsible guardians...
Are at a disadvantage.

That may be true.
However...
It is the society that suffers the greater disadvantage.
Influences usually do not stay corralled behind fences.
Whether one learns how to climb or jump...
Something about the experience of it will be shared.

The Beast: Chapter Two

She walked through the door
looking back only to see him fade
into the crowd of students
pouring across the plaza in front of the auditorium.

She watched him recede
vowing
that she would make a point of finding out
more about him.

There was the freshman boat ride in a few days
there was her next opportunity.

Suddenly a voice said:

'Wow, that was chemistry
if I have ever seen chemistry.'

It was Nancy, Nicole's roommate.

They had first met only the day before
when Nicole had arrived at the college for the week long orientation
which included of course
meeting one's roommate.

Nancy was already there in the room
when Nicole arrived her bags in hand
looking to see where she would she might spend the next four years of her life.

The two eyed each other momentarily
quickly sizing each other up after some long seconds
deciding that they liked one another.

Nancy was there on an academic scholarship
just like Nicole and they had been paired together
probably because they had somethings in common.

They seemed to be each other's type,
studious, quiet
and had settled in with each other comfortably.

Nancy falling in beside Nicole
was talking and saying:

'Who was that beautiful blond guy you were talking to. When he put his hands on you I almost died.'
Nancy was gushing.

'Blond? ' Nicole said, blankly? 'Who are you talking about? '

'You know the big blond who opened the door for you looking deep deep into your eyes, ' Nancy said giving Nicole her best dreamy-eyed girl look.

Nicole looked at her again blankly finally saying.
'He was no blond. Didn't see any blond.'

Then with a shock Nicole realized that in her mind's eye recounting Nancy's blond and the Beast guy shifted back and forth between the tall blond Nancy was going on about and her guy, her ugly guy.

Nicole stopped cold on the street.

'What the hell is going on here? ' she thought to herself.

'Did he have a red vest on? ' she finally asked Nancy.

'Yes, that is the one? ' Nancy answered quickly.

The blond in Nicole's vision did have a red vest on but, her Beast did not.
It was naturally a black vest.

Nicole stopped, her mouth dropping, at her own thoughts.

Nancy touched her arm.

'Are you alright? '

Its Alright

Its alright what you confess to me
Where youre at right now baby, its alright with me
Behind your truths or somewhere inside your lies
These long cold days of gray, they color your eyes
And its alright, what you confide in me
Where were at right now baby, its where we need to be
And I can see things so clearly through tear-stained eyes
The side effects of time in all our good-byes, and its alright
I got lost some time ago,
Lost in your song, your touch, your smile
And where I want to grow old
And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain
Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song
Its alright what you say to me
How you feel right now baby, shows an everlasting need
Behind the truth, theres something inside your lies
These long cold days of rain, theyre hiding your eyes
And its alright, what you express to me
Your song escapes me to this place I want to be
So sing to me baby, your song can carry me
Through endless weeks of rain and onto sweeter things
And its alright
I got lost some time ago,
Lost in your song, your touch, your smile
And where I want to grow old
And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain
Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song
Oh sing to me baby, your song can carry me
In all shes revealed I found I could always see
How her ways could flow and run over me
And I found this reason to learn
And I found this reason to decide
As many days come and many days go
Ill never know why
And its alright
I got lost some time ago,
Lost in your song, your touch, your smile
And where I want to grow old
And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain
Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song

A Swaggered Blonde

Young lady
I feel the beauty
in your eyes

I hear the magic
in your thighs
with your long locked
blond hair, everywhere

You reminded me of a past
LOVE
an angel in disguise

often in many of my
dawns early light
simple gazes of you
knowing you and everything in my life
are going to be
alright

You Do Not Have To Hear What The Woman Said To The Guy In White...

at the clinical laboratory
i have seen how a beautiful woman with long blond-dyed hair
stings the guy seated next to him

she calls him not with his name but some other word
that is so degrading

the man's eyes changed from sun to moon,
his mind wants to howl like a jackal but he keeps his restrained silence

he loves another anyway and she will just be a waste of time
for another useless argument.

Sitting On Top Of The World

Mississippi river so big and wide, blond haired woman on the other side.
Now shes gone, gone, gone and I dont worry cause Im sitting on top of the world.
I worked all summer, spring and fall, blond haired woman the cause of it all.
Now shes gone, gone, gone and I dont worry cause Im sitting on top of the world.
I saw her in dallas and el paso. said come back baby, I need you so.
Now shes gone, gone, gone and I dont worry cause Im sitting on top of the world.

Woman Gives Birth At Cafe, Refuses To Leave Until Latte Finished

There was a man crying, walking his dog
and a woman drove by
on a flat tire

They brought coffee to the tables
in large glasses on white saucers
There’d be long silver spoons
with which to stir in strong

dark espresso
floating in layers in the steamed milk

Don’t forget
the girl with long blond hair
fiddling with her key in a car door
outside, saying
“Oh! This isn’t even my car! ”

And yes, having conversations about
catching a man, seated in this same café
when you were young, not pregnant
not looking down the road to life very far

Calamity Jane

He looked like a good saddle horse
though his hair was long
and his beard three days course
she soon had the saddle on him
and he worked at the ride
it was a matter of pride
everything that he tried
drew the noose tighter still
till she'd broken his will
till he'd do anything that she said
he worked like a mule
while she soaked the young fool
taking just about all that he made
when she cut the horse loose
he was well beyond use
and she advanced on the herd once again.

Sold

(richard fagan/robb royer)
Well i went down to the grundy county auction
Where i saw something i just had to have
My mind told me i should proceed with caution
But my heart said, "go ahead an' make a bid on that!"
An' i said, hey, pretty lady, won'cha gi'me a sign
I'd give anything to make you mine all mine
I'll do your biddin' an' be at your beckon call
Yeah, i never seen anyone lookin' so fine
Man, i gotta have her, she's a one-of-a-kind
I'm goin' once, goin' twice,
I'm sold! on the lady in the second row
She's an eight, she's a nine, she's a ten, i know
She's got ruby red lips, blond hair, blue eyes
An' i'm about to bid my heart good-bye!
Well, the auctioneer was goin' about a mile a minute
He was takin' bids an' callin' them out loud
An' i guess i was really gettin' in it
'cause i just shouted out above the crowd!
I'm goin' once, goin' twice,
I'm sold! on the lady in the long black dress
Well she won my heart it was no contest
With her ruby red lips, blond hair, blue eyes
Well i'm about to bid my heart good-bye!
Yeah, we found love on the auction block
An' i hauled her heart away
Now we still love to laugh about
The way we met that day
When i said, hey, pretty lady, won'cha gi'me a sign
I'd give anything to make you mine all mine
I'll do your biddin' an' be at your beckon call
Yeah, i never seen anyone lookin' so fine
Man, i gotta have her, she's a one-of-a-kind
I'm goin' once, goin' twice,
I'm sold! on the lady in the second row
She's an eight, she's a nine, she's a ten, i know

An' i'm about to bid my heart good-bye!

I Can't Find a Doll with a Chinese Face!

I've watched your children, playing in the sand,
Pretty little girls with a yellow hair-band,
Cheeky little boys with their snub-nosed faces,
Kicking and a-tripping over dragging shoe-laces,
Little brown eyes, and stubby little hands,
They laugh and delight, these children of the Han.
So why do their Ma ma's buy them little dolls
With blond hair and blue eyes from western malls?

Kan kan woman if you can can see,
Look in the mirror at your rare beauty;
Who's got the hair that would steal men's glances,
Coal black and straight, that your face enhances,
High cheek-bones, and your almond eyes
Now look at your child, be proud, be wise,
Why make them think they're less than they are
Than a blond haired bimbo in a western bar?

Sons of the dragon, and little princesses,
Need to be loved, to be held - caresses!
They should be playing with a doll just like them
Not something borrowed from a Disney production,
Toss all the Barbies and the blue-eyed babies,
Revel in the glow of your eastern features,
I'm just a westerner, wandering the place,
But I can't find a doll with a Chinese face!

Cutting edge

Like a sharp knife
cutting through a bitter lemon
into red lips dripping

the hairdresser takes my pleasantries,
chops them with a cruel hand,
throws them back in pieces in my face

snip snip into blond hair, brown hair, black, grey, white,
what heroic restraint, condemned
to a lifetime’s cutting, and not
to plunge the scissors into a spinal cord…

this little girl who cut her finger with
her mother’s scissors perhaps
to try to explain how they cut her heart
her love that would grow like hair

how can I know the heart
of this woman who cuts my hair
so expertly.. snip, snip..

Chatting Today

I worked for the union and on my very first communion, you know,
It never ever, ever, ever worked out right
So I spent the night sleepin on the railway
I worked for the foundry and man my mind it nearly drowned
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
It never, it could never work out right
So I said so long, amigo. good night and slept on the railway
The railway, theres no better way, ooh the railway
And its nice to talk to you today
I worked for the miller, a very, very nice type of fell-a {fellow}
But I could see that it was never gonna work out right
So I split and spent the night sleeping on the railway
I worked in the subway arc, oh yeah, yeah
You know it never, no no never, no never no, ever no, worked out right
So I said so long and spent the night on the railway
The railway, give me a bottle of whiskey, ooh the railway
Ooh, theres nothin like the railway
And Id like to thank someone for mascara and good things that I done
And for the time ya spent and the friendship begun
And most of all starry nights on the railway
Ooh, I dont know no better way
Than just, ooh, lyin back an drifting away
I can hear it, I can hear it

One Summer Day

One summer day, many years ago
I saw you walking.
On the beach, sand pure and white.

Glistening in the sun
Your long blond hair shone.
Glowing bright as a flame.

You were a sight to see
With a persona all your own.
A level of beauty I have never seen since.

As i saw you walking
That summer day, many years ago,
Down the beach, away you strolled.
