I first saw the light in the city of Boston in the year 1857.

Whose Words These Are Only God Knows
WHOSE WOODS THESE ARE ONLY GOD KNOWS
Whose woods these are only God knows
Sparse and bare the trees
A pleasant morning in the hottest time of the year-
My task here is no more-
The man I took care of for one year and one half is in his grave
His kind and good wife said goodbye
With a gift for my daughter and her child
And a compensation check for me.
What Promises are there for me to keep now?
In these last years
Before I too fade and die?
The woods are light and small
And the Developers will soon be here-
I look up out at the Hill of the Holy city
A soft calm wind blows-
Never have I been so still inside-
And miles to go before I sleep?
The City sad and light and deep.

Tale of Three Cities
New York blasted London blasted
Singapore -
Ripped off each other's metaphoric balls,
Crumbling walls.
Priapic city monoliths -
Blue-sky scraping bastards -
Shout about their height (but really length) .
V8 arseholes didn't care -
Pumping shit into the air,
So long as they were always there to
Fart aloud a smoggy cloud,
Laughing at the weak asthmatic,
Humoured that it seems traumatic.
Watch the greedy cities oozing
Chair-bound fat committees, though they
Look a bunch of titties as they
Waffle on about the pound.
Ever thought to look around and see
That they were dead?

Should I Wear My 3-D Glasses?
Mommy...
Who are they in those cages?
'They are the ones,
Who couldn't believe
They were being deceived!
And when they discovered they were...
They went nuts.
And started roaming the streets.
Begging from those living in the inner city,
For food to eat! '
And who ar they over there?
'Those are the ones who lived in the inner city! '
How come they don't look crazy like the others?
'They've been used to being locked up.
Most of them all their lives! '
~Boston! You gotta bid higher than a 4 low,
If you playing with me.
Hey...
Bring me some chips and a Heinekein,
If there are any left.~
Mommy,
What's a 4 low?
'I don't know!
That exhibit has been there for years.'
How come their cage door is open,
And unlocked?
'Who knows?
Maybe they are just comfortable being there.
Come on.
Let's look at the new exhibit upstairs.
I really want you to see that one! '
Why mommy?
'That's the one they are talking about!
They actually have on display,
Several groups of different people...
Who are expressing affection, concern and respect
For each other.
I want you to see that one.
I don't believe it myself! '
What is that one called?
'Death of Pretensions.
It has been filmed! '
Should I wear my 3-D glasses?
'Yes! I'm glad you reminded me.
I want you to get front seats.
I want you to sit up close.
I'll be sitting right behind you.'
Why, mommy?
'I don't know if I'm ready for it.
Your young.
You can handle it.
While you are here...
I may go back to find out what a 'Boston' is! '

The Polulation Of Our City Is Growing
The population of our city
Is growing every year
That is because all the women in the city is giving
Birth to babies nons stop
Why don't they make it mandatory for the women
To take the birth control pill
In this city
Than the population of the city would not grow every year
And that would make sense
Because we wouldn't have to build new homes

In The City
Mornings when I wake too early
Theres a dead light in the room
Rain is falling through
The dark and the moon
The waking hour appears pretty soon
Everyone is sleeping though
I lie in a curtained room
Somewhere in a city
Holding so many names
Somehow in the distance
Ive gone to ground
Somewhere in a city
Somewhere between the crowd
Somehow in the distance
Ive gone to ground
Only the shadow remains
Only the shadow of doubt
Three years of memories
Memories without a sight
The end of another year
How will I survive ?
How suddenly fear begins
In a bedroom on the floor
Somewhere in a city
Holding so many names
Somewhere in the crowd
Somewhere in the distance
Somewhere in a city
Holding so many names
Somehow in a city
Ive gone to ground
The light breaks slowly forward
Across my bedroom wall
Until it defines me somehow
In shadow of doubt
It finds my fugitive life
Its blurred, blurred with dust
Only heaven collides
When I look above
Somewhere in a city
Holding so many names
Somehow in the distance
Ive gone to ground
Somewhere in a city
Somewhere between the crowd
Somehow in the distance
Ive gone to ground
Somewhere in a city
Somewhere between the crowd
Somehow in the distance
Ive gone to ground

The Big City Type
I woke up in a big city apartment
Rode to a big city job
On a big city subway
With hip, big city people
Worked at a big city job
In a big city skyscraper
Stood in a big city line
For lunch, heard big city jazz
On a big city radio station
It was like a big city scene
In a big budget movie
When I realized I had become
The big city type
I always wanted to be
Yet I was still me

A Faithful Witness
To the firstborn of Yahseph,
Of all that is created;
To the secondborn of Yahseph,
Do set set your mind on Mount Zion;
For His name is His glory and,
Of the economic well-being.
Of the year of the rat,
Of the year of the dog,
Of the year of the cow,
Of the year of the bull,
Of the year of the sheep,
Of the year of the dragon,
Of the year of the snake,
Of the year of the pig,
Of the year of the goat,
Of the year of the lizard,
Of the year of the crocodile,
Of the year of the elephant,
Of the year of the scorpion,
Of the year of the turtle,
Of the year of the fish,
Of the year of the earth,
Of the year of the wind,
Of the year of the fire,
Of the year of the water,
And of the year of the bush!
Like the firstborns of slaves.
The hips of romance,
The faithful witness will not lie;
The same day,
The same night,
Of the love shared at where no oxen are;
And the crib was very clean.

I Am One
I am one as you are three
Try to find a messiah in your trinity
Your city to burn
Your city to burn
Try to look for something
Your city to burn; you'll burn
Am I as I seem? Oh no
Don't slow down
Time is right for a guiding light
Try to turn to reasons in your inner life
Your city to burn
Your city to burn
Try to look for something
Your city to burn; you'll burn
Said you're the only one who
Said I am one
Said now you're the one who
Said I am one

The Changing Light
The changing light
at San Francisco
is none of your East Coast light
none of your
pearly light of Paris
The light of San Francisco
is a sea light
an island light
And the light of fog
blanketing the hills
drifting in at night
through the Golden Gate
to lie on the city at dawn
And then the halcyon late mornings
after the fog burns off
and the sun paints white houses
with the sea light of Greece
with sharp clean shadows
making the town look like
it had just been painted
But the wind comes up at four o'clock
s weeping the hills
And then the veil of light of early evening
And then another scrim
when the new night fog
floats in
And in that vale of light
the city drifts
anchorless upon the ocean

Heartache City
Hit the city, hit the night
Hit the club, sip the wine
Just remember to leave on time
Hit the red lights, check the girls
Youre steppin into another world
See the man, hell spin you alive
But just remember to leave on time
Heartache, city of heartache city
City of heartbreak pity
Heartache city
Crazy people in heartache city
City of heartache city
City of heartbreak pity
Heartache city, its a city of sin
Check the star club, see the stars
See the action
In the back street bars
Lookin for love
Youre in the wrong place
Tricks for kicks
Can you stand the pace
Heartache, city of heartache city
City of heartbreak pity
Heartache city
Crazy people in heartache city
City of heartache city
City of heartbreak pity
Heartache city
Hit the city, hit the night
Crazy people, neon light
You pay your money
Its no real crime
But just remember to leave on time
