If It Aint One Thing Its Another

(bobby carmichael/ tony stampley/joe stampley)
I got up this morning tried to get off of work
I couldnt even find not one clean shirt
There was no hot water when I jumped in the shower
I know my boss is gonna dock me an hour
The older I get the more I discover
If it aint one thing its another
I got the car, I tried to get motivated
Now Im stuck in the traffic, all Im doing is waiting
The fool behind me keeps blowin his horn
I got my top laid back and its coming up a storm
The older I get the more I discover
If it aint one thing its another
Light bill phone bill water and gas
Pay day comes and it goes so fast
Theres no way out and Im telling you brother
If it aint one thing its another
I got to the job and I tried to explain
The boss said you wont have to do that again
I called home just to tell her the news
She said bye bye baby Im leaving you
She took the kids and shes gone to her mothers
If it aint one thing, its another
Light bill phone bill water and gas
Pay day comes and it goes so fast
Theres no way out and Im telling you brother
If it aint one thing its another
If it aint one thing its another

Drag Me Down

There's a reason why the words got
hard for me to bare
Because within them was the promise of
a life that just wasn't there
You're not my friend and I have no doubt
That I finally figured it out

You're trying to drag me down (x4)

Was it hate or was it hurt
that led you to be this way
Did you want it all for nothing
Did you think that would be OK
I did everything I could for you
Still you wanna run me through

(Chorus)

I did everything I could for you
Still you wanna run me through
You're trying to drag me down (x4)
You're gonna drag me down
You're trying to drag me down
You're gonna drag me down
You're trying to drag me down

Trailer

She graduated high school I bought her a trailer
In a little park by the side of the road
I couldve had the army
I couldve had the navy
But no I had to go for a mobile home
Yeah I guess I gave it all for you babe
There wasnt room in that trailer for two babe
I kept up with my interest
I kept up with my payments
She never said goodbye
I never asked why
Man we used to dance to lynyrd skynyrd
Boy she used to look so good at times
But I guess I gave it all to you babe
Theres not room in no trailer for two babe
Well I guess I gave it all for you babe
All for you and your trailer too babe

Trick Bag

12:00 o' clock at night--you walk out the door.
You told me baby--you were going to the drug-store.
Well, in my mind, I knew you were lying;
The drug-store closed at a quarter to nine.
I say I saw you kissing Jimmy across the fence,
I heard you telling Jimmy I ain't got no sense.
The way you've been acting is such a drag;
You done put me in a trick-bag.
When I come home, start an argument,
Just to keep you from asking where my voodoo went.
Peep out the front door--I hear the back door slam.
I peek out of my window--somebody's taking it on the lam.
I say I saw you kissing Jimmy across the fence,
I heard you telling Jimmy I ain't got no sense.
The way you've been acting is such a drag;
You done put me in a trick-bag.
We had a fight, then you got mad;
Got on the telephone--called your mom and dad.
Dad said, "She's my daughter and I'm her pa,
And you ain't nothing but a son-in-law."
I say I saw you kissing Jimmy across the fence,
I heard you telling Jimmy I ain't got no sense.
The way you've been acting is such a drag;
You done put me in a trick-bag.
Yeah, yeah x4

Fire Bugs

Look 'ere. I'll bet a 'arf-a-crown
To anythink you like to name (said Bushy Bill),
If country fellers went to town,
An' burnt a few big buildin's down,
An' quids an' quids went up in flame (said Bushy Bill),
Do you suppose, by any chance,
You'd put it down to ignorance.
An' let 'em go their dilly way
To do the trick some other day? (Said Bushy Bill).
No fear. You'd take that crim'nal lot
An' likely lynch 'em on the spot.
Fine sense of property you got (said Bushy Bill).

Yet city coves come up this way,
Shootin' or goin' campin' out (said Bushy Bill).
But are they careful blokes? Not they.
An' when their camp fire gets away
They wonder what it's all about (said Bushy Bill).
They sling their matches round the place,
An' carry on a fair disgrace
Wise coots they are, all in the know,
Who reckons country coves is slow (said Bushy Bill).
But when two hundred thousand quid
Goes up, they dunno wot they did.
They can't think 'ow that green scrub caught
They never knoo. They never thought.
Look 'ere. IT'S TIME YOUS BLOKES WAS TAUGHT (said Bushy Bill).

Corny Bill

His old clay pipe stuck in his mouth,
His hat pushed from his brow,
His dress best fitted for the South --
I think I see him now;
And when the city streets are still,
And sleep upon me comes,
I often dream that me an' Bill
Are humpin' of our drums.

I mind the time when first I came
A stranger to the land;
And I was stumped, an' sick, an' lame
When Bill took me in hand.
Old Bill was what a chap would call
A friend in poverty,
And he was very kind to all,
And very good to me.

We'd camp beneath the lonely trees
And sit beside the blaze,
A-nursin' of our wearied knees,
A-smokin' of our clays.
Or when we'd journeyed damp an' far,
An' clouds were in the skies,
We'd camp in some old shanty bar,
And sit a-tellin' lies.

Though time had writ upon his brow
And rubbed away his curls,
He always was -- an' may be now --
A favourite with the girls;
I've heard bush-wimmin scream an' squall --
I've see'd 'em laugh until
They could not do their work at all,
Because of Corny Bill.

He was the jolliest old pup
As ever you did see,
And often at some bush kick-up
They'd make old Bill M.C.
He'd make them dance and sing all night,
He'd make the music hum,
But he'd be gone at mornin' light
A-humpin' of his drum.

Though joys of which the poet rhymes
Was not for Bill an' me,
I think we had some good old times
Out on the wallaby.
I took a wife and left off rum,
An' camped beneath a roof;
But Bill preferred to hump his drum
A-paddin' of the hoof.

The lazy, idle loafers what
In toney houses camp
Would call old Bill a drunken sot,
A loafer, or a tramp;
But if the dead should ever dance --
As poets say they will --
I think I'd rather take my chance
Along of Corny Bill.

His long life's-day is nearly o'er,
Its shades begin to fall;
He soon must mount his bluey for
The last long tramp of all;
I trust that when, in bush an' town,
He's lived and learnt his fill,
They'll let the golden slip-rails down
For poor old Corny Bill.

What A Mess

If you keep hammering anti-abortion,
Well tell you no more masturbation for men.
Evry day youre killing living sperms in billions,
So how do you feel about that, brother?
What a waste, what a waste,
What a waste, what a waste,
To have to talk to a phony like you.
If you keep telling us were more than equal,
Well tell you equal is not equal enough.
For centuries weve been taking your double ass deal,
So what do you say to that, brother?
What a drag, what a drag,
What a drag, what a drag,
To have to cope with a crazy like you.
Brrrr -
Ah -
Ah -
Ah -
If you keep laying on money or power,
Well tell you meanwhile your sprinkler is out of soda.
So keep off our grass till youre in some kinda order,
What do you say to that, brother?
What a mess, what a mess,
What a mess, what a mess,
To have to put up with a fuzzy like you.

On The Drag

Youre only happy when youre sad
Youre top fueled and youre bad
Parachute in your back pack and
Your knees under your chin
And your boyfriends getting mad
At all the time you waste
Trying to put your finger on it
The allure of st. marks place
On the drag, on the drag
Youre all waiting round for something
And its never coming back
On the drag, on the drag
Its a genuine disaster
And its come to make you king
On the drag
I wont die until Im dead,
Are the first words that he said
Dont try to interrupt him,
cause hes never gonna stop
And the time is standing still
With all this time to kill
And Im trying to walk away
From 1st avenue to a
On the drag, on the drag
Its a genuine disaster
And weve crowned him with his crown
On the drag, on the drag
Were all waiting round for something
And its never coming back
On the drag, on the drag
Were all waiting round for something
And its never coming back
On the drag, on the drag
Were all waiting for disaster
And we crowned him with his crown
On the drag

How Deep Can An Ignorance Get

I'm telling you...
I saw a five dollar bill.
When you were discussing,
The clarity of the sky.
And how that has not been seen,
In quite sometime.

We'll discuss that later.
Now go see if you can find someone,
With a rope or ladder or something.
Or find someone with a flashlight.
I know what I saw.
And I saw it from up there,
Where you are.

'How deep can an ignorance get? '

There you go getting philosophical.

'No one told you to jump down there,
Like a fool.'

Who are you calling a fool?
I've got more than five dollars in my wallet.
And I bet you can't say that?
Can you!

'You are right!
But who is asking who for the assistance? '

The Take-it-easy Trailer Park

(kinky friedman, van dyke parks)
An l.a. coke-dealer, a georgia faith-healer
A boy scout and a junked-out joan of arc
And theyve all come together through lifes stormy weather
To the take-it-easy trailer park.
And head up high in my air-stream my life is a pipe-dream
My neon neighbors find me quite insane.
Like a world-weary sailor Ive dry-docked my trailer,
I just call her the ol battleship maine.
Dear mom and dear dad
Life is happy, life is sad,
Love is easy when you, when you follow your heart.
Oh and thats why I came here,
Theres no one to blame here
At the take-it-easy trailer park.
And theres ol aunt jemima from north carolina,
Theres uncle ben and dear ol uncle sam
And theres one who reminds me of the one I left behind me,
But frankly scarlett, I dont give a damn ...
An l.a. coke-dealer, a georgia faith-healer
A boy scout and a junked-out joan of arc
And theyve all come together through lifes stormy weather
To the take-it-easy trailer park.
Dear mom and dear dad,
Life is happy, life is sad,
Love is easy when you, when you follow your heart.
See them tears in the skies
See the stars in my eyes
At the take-it-easy, take-it-easy
Take-it-easy trailer park.

Down to it is Plugger Bill,
Lyin' crumpled, white 'n' still.
Me 'n' him
Chips in when the scrap begins,
Carin' nothin' for our skins,
Chi-iked as the 'Eavenly Twins-
Bill 'n' Jim.

They 'ave outed Bill at last,
Slugged me cobber hard 'n' fast.
It's a kill.
See the purple of his lip
'N' the red 'n' oozy drip!
Ends our great ole partnership-
Jim 'n' Bill

Mates we was when we was kids;
Camp, 'n' ship, 'n' Pyramids,
Him 'n' me
Hung together, 'n' we tore
Up the heights from Helles shore,
Bill a long 'arf head afore,
Fine to see!

Then it was we took a touch-
Simple puncture, nothin' much;
But we lay
'N' we stays the count, it seems,
In a sorter realm of dreams
Where the sun infernal gleams
Night 'n' day;

Boilin', fryin' achin', dumb,
Waitin' till the stretchers come,
Patiently.
I hangs on to 'arf a cup.
Which I wants ole Bill to sup.
Damn if he ain't savin' up
His for me!

When they come to lift my head
I am softly kiddin' dead,
For a game,
So's they'll first take on his gills.
Over, though, me scheme he spills-
Bli'me, this ole take-down Bill's
Done the same!

But he isn't kiddin' now,
And it knocks me anyhow
Seein' him.
We was both agreed before,
Though it got 'em by the score,
Two was goin' to beat this war-
But 'n' Jim.

Mate o' mine, yiv stayed it through.
Hard luck, Bill-for me 'n' you
Hard 'n' grim.
They have got me Cobber true,
But I'm stickin' tight ez glue….
Bill, there's one who'll plug for two-
It is Jim!

My Mate Bill

That's his saddle on the tie-beam,
And them's his spurs up there
On the wall-plate over yonder
You can see they ain't a pair.

For the daddy of all the stockmen
As ever come mustering here
Was killed in the flaming mulga,
A-yarding a bald-faced steer.

They say as he's gone to heaven,
And shook off all worldly cares
But I can't sight Bill in a halo
Set up on three blinded hairs.

In heaven! what next I wonder,
For strike me pink and blue,
If I see whatever in thunder
They'll find for Bill to do.

He'd never make one of them angels,
With faces as white as chalk,
All wool to the toes like hoggets,
And wings like an eagle-hawk.

He couldn't 'arp for apples,
His voice had tones as jarred,
And he'd no more ear than a bald-faced steer,
Or calves in a branding yard.

He could sit on a bucking brumbie
Like a nob in an easy chair,
And chop his name with a greenhide fall
On the flank of a flying steer.

He could show them saints in glory
The way that a fall should drop,
But sit on a throne—not William,
Unless they could make it prop.

He mightn't freeze to the seraphs,
Or chum with the cherubim,
But if ever them seraph johnnies
Get a-poking it like at him

Well! if there's hide in heaven,
And silk for to make a lash,
He'll yard 'em all in the Jasper Lake
In a blinded lightning flash.

If the heavenly hosts get boxed now,
As mobs most always will,
Who'll cut 'em out like William,
Or draft on a camp like Bill?

An 'orseman would find it awkward
At first with a push that flew,
But blame my cats if I know what else
They'll find for Bill to do.

It's hard if there ain't no cattle,
And perhaps they'll let him sleep,
And wake him up at the judgment
To draft those goats and sheep.

It's playing it low on William,
But perhaps he'll buckle to,
To show them high-toned seraphs
What a Mulga man can do.

If they saddles a big-boned angel,
With a turn of speed, of course,
As can spiel like a four-year brumbie,
And prop like an old camp horse,

And puts Bill up with a snaffle,
A four or five inch spur,
And eighteen foot of greenhide
To chop the blinded fur

He'll yard them blamed Angoras
In a way that it's safe to swear
Will make them tony seraphs
Sit back on their thrones and stare.

Wild Horses

Childhood living
It's easy to do
The things you wanted
I bought them for you
Graceless lady
You know who I am
You know I can't let you
Slide through my hand
Wild horses
Couldn't drag me away
Wild horses
Couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer
A dull aching pain
Now you're decided
To treat me the same
No sweeping exits
Or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter
Or treat you unkind
Wild horses
Couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses
Couldn't drag me away
I have my freedom
But I dont have much time
So let's do some living
After we die
Wild horses
Couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses
Couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses
Couldn't drag me away
Wild horses
We want them someday

Dusty Old Fairgrounds

by Bob Dylan
Well, it's all up from Florida at the start of the spring,
The trucks and the trailers will be winding
Like a bullet we'll shoot for the carnival route.
We're following them dusty old fairgrounds a-calling.
From the Michigan mud past the Wisconsin sun
'Cross that Minnesota border, keep 'em scrambling
Through the clear county lakes and the lumberjack lands,
We're following them dusty old fairgrounds a-calling.
Hit Fargo on the jump and down to Aberdeen
'Cross them old Black Hills, keep 'em rolling
Through the cow country towns and the sands of old Montana.
We're following them fairgrounds a-calling.
As the white line on the highway sails under your wheels,
I've gazed from the trailer window laughing.
Oh, our clothes they was torn but the colors they was bright.
Following them dusty old fairgrounds a-calling.
It's a-many a friend that follows the bend,
The jugglers, the hustlers, the gamblers.
Well, I've spent my time with the fortune-telling kind
Following them fairgrounds a-calling.
Oh, it's pound down the rails and it's tie down the tents,
Get that canvas flag a-flying.
Well, let the caterpillars spin, let the ferris wheel wind
Following them fairgrounds a-calling.
Well, it's roll into town straight to the fairgrounds
Just behind the posters that are hanging
And it's fill up every space with a different kind of face
Following them fairgrounds a-calling.
Get the dancing girls in front, get the gambling show behind,
Hear that old music box a-banging.
Hear them kids, faces, smiles, up and down the midway aisles
We're following them fairgrounds a-calling.
It's a-drag it on down by the deadline in the town,
Hit the old highway by the morning
And it's ride yourself blind for the next town on time
Following them fairgrounds a-calling.
As the harmonicas whined in the lonesome nighttime
Drinking red wine as we're rolling,
Many a turnin' I turn, many a lesson I learn
From following them fairgrounds a-calling.
And it's roll back down to St. Petersburg
Tie down the trailers and camp 'em
And the money that we made will pay for the space
From following them dusty old fairgrounds a-calling.
