I was involved in music, acting, and some running, but my firm wish was to become a doctor. That was the formative age when I had decided on the pattern of my career.

Doctor
Johnston/Midnight/Schwartz
I'm a man who lives in the city
I'm a man who lives in the street
From F.L.A. to Frisco Bay
And everywhere in between
Coast to coast there's a question
Everybody's always askin' me
People want to know everywhere I go
What can the answer be
Music is the doctor
Makes you feel like you want to
Listen to the doctor
Just like you ought to
Music is the doctor of my soul
Well it seems that when I travel
And I'm out there on the road
The freedom I need is the freedom I leave
In my good time rock and roll
There's a healing in those guitars
And a spirit in the song
No matter what condition your rhythm is in
The message goes on and on
Music is the doctor
Makes you feel like you want to
Listen to the doctor
Just like you ought to
Music is the doctor of my soul
If you ever wonder
How to shake your blues
Just follow this prescription
And get the cure for what's ailin' you
Music is the doctor
Makes you feel like you want to
Listen to the doctor
Just like you ought to
Music is the doctor of my soul

There's a pattern when tours start - a pattern of infighting, of making up, of breaking up, of addiction. There's a pattern of going to jail. There's a pattern of passion for music.

It was only when I realized how actors have the power to move people that I decided to pursue acting as a career.

One of my grandfathers, actually, having gone out there as a minister, decided he would better serve the people as a doctor. So at a very late age - at the age of 38 in fact - he changed course and decided to become a doctor.

I have friends, African American actors, who've had more of a struggle; hopefully they're starting to see some air and light now. But in my directing career, in my acting career, in my producing career, I haven't been bound by a lot of limitations. When I first started doing these kinds of unique characters, these diverse characters, there was hardly anybody doing them. So I had this open road.

Running on
Running on
But you, don't know what you're running from
Hiding on
But you, don't know what you're hiding from
It's amazing
You're acting so crazy
You're trying to persuade me
There's no escaping
Taking off in full drive
Afraid of the full ride
You're trying to persuade me
There's no escaping
Running on
But you, don't know what you're running from
Hiding on
But you, don't know what you're hiding from
On the move
Everyplace I try to talk to you
You don't know what to do
I really can't tell whats wrong with you
Every time you see my face
You act amazed
Stunned I'm still in this place
And haven't yet escaped
I don't know what what you're trying to do
I don't know if I should be running too
Away from who?
I need a clue
You won't give me answers
Just keep moving faster
From a huge disaster
That's trying to get after
you....and us others, too...
Running on
But you, don't know what you're running from
Hiding on
But you, don't know what you're hiding from
It's amazing
You're acting so crazy
You're trying to persuade me
There's no escaping
Taking off in full drive
Afraid of the full ride
You're trying to persuade me
There's no escaping
Running on
But you, don't know what you're running from
Hiding on
But you, don't know what you're hiding from
Keep running on
What are we running from?
When is our running done?
How long is this marathon?
Answers, why aren't telling me anything?
Pushing me
Saying 'There's no escaping'
So you keep..
Running on
But you, don't know what you're running from
Hiding on
But you, don't know what you're hiding from
It's amazing
You're acting so crazy
You're trying to persuade me
There's no escaping
Taking off in full drive
Afraid of the full ride
You're trying to persuade me
There's no escaping
Running on
But you, don't know what you're running from
Hiding on
But you, don't know what you're hiding from

Lady And The Tramp
The Lady and the Tramp
I took the bus from Ellesmere Port to Birkenhead,
from there the underground to Liverpool, walked
to Hanover Street; took a rickety lift up four floors
to a studio where Miss Summers tried to teach me
to speak posh English. A hopeless task my Norse
accent refused to be relegated clung to my throat
like phlegm, the size of a jelly fish, and anyway,
when Miss Summer said my own voice was sexy
I decided to take acting lessons with her instead.
Alas this didn’t last; the doctor said I was fit to go
back to sea and I was sent to join a ship in Aruba.
I loved Miss Summers used to meet her secretly in ´
Southport on her days off, impressed me with her
noble manners it was like making love to a duchess.
The problem with being a seafarer is that when he
returns, life ashore has moved on. My teacher lady
had an acting job, when I rang her voice was arctic
and, yes, she had also gone and married a doctor.

Method acting is anything that gets you involved personally in the part, so that you can communicate in human terms with an audience. Despite all the obstacles, the American actor has changed the acting world.

The Hand That Feeds
Doctor, doctor, doctor
Please, doctor, doctor, please
Doctor, doctor, doctor
Feel like an old diseace
Get your sweet ass off the floor
Doctor, doctor, doctor
I cant refuse any loose harted lady anymore
I scream your name into the crowd
You feel the flame, but yo aint proud
Mabye your attitude aint right
So all thats left for me to do is bite
The hand that feeds me
Feeds me
Doctor, doctor, doctor
Doctor, doctor, please
All things you put me through
What the hell you want me to
Do all the things that uncle john needs
I aint the dog that bites the hand that feeds me
In the middle of, with a spittle of
Et tu like birds of a feather
When another day, love another way
Push, shove, make love, play
Never never, never ever
Never ever, never ever
Na, na...
Doctor, doctor, doctor
Please do a-what you can
Doctor, doctor, doctor
Would you please give my life a hand
All the things you put me trough
What the hell you want me to
Do all the things that uncle john needs
I aint the dog that bites the hand that feeds me, yeah
Doctor, doctor, doctor
Doctor, doctor, please

I Decided
[Chorus]
I decided to stay home tonite
I decided I'ma treat you right
I decided to be there for you
Decided to be on my P's and Q's
I decided to give up my friends
Decided I'ma take you out weekends
Decided to give you a reason to trust
These are decisions that I make for love
[Verse 1]
Enough is enough no more running around
(Searchin' for what's right here at home)
Because my luck is 'bout to turn around
(And I just can't keep doin' you wrong)
Girl I take it for granted that you will be here always
(Tired of this ego trip)
'Cause soon you'll be searchin' for another man
And I just can't have that happen to me
[Chorus]
[Verse 2]
Now I've had about all that I can stand no more
(I'm turnin' in my playa's card)
See I'm retirin' from the secret life I chose
(Cause I just can't keep breakin' your heart)
It was silly of me to be the way that I was
(First was blind

Hollywood is fickle; your career can end pretty fast. If the acting jobs dry up, you have to have something to fall back on. In fact, that would be my advice to kids interested in acting - make sure you get an education too.

Sonnet- Music Can Heal
But Music cures in ways akin to drugs;
Enchanting mind, delighting the hearer;
And lulls a child to sleep as mother hugs,
Rejuvenates the wearied work better.
And calms the nerves and soothens broken heart,
Evoking emotions of any type;
Music has destressing effect in part;
But hymns create a ho1iness and hype.
And Music heals the body parts as such,
Removing pain, relaxing muscles well;
Its rhythm helps the breathing pattern much,
Its magic holds man, beasts, plants under spell!
Yet, Music has lesser side-effects used;
And keeps the patient, Doctor both amused.

Singing is a way of releasing an emotion that you sometimes can't portray when you're acting. And music moves your soul, so music is the source of the most intense emotions you can feel. When you hear a song and you're acting it's incredible. But when you're singing a song and you're acting it's even more incredible.
