Have pride and vanity

Service and sacrifice can be the base
For your pride and not your caste or creed.
Have pride that you have helped someone rise
And not that you have conquered someone.
Pride is that one feels about oneself high.

Show vanity for your simplicity;
Show not vanity for your affluence.
Show vanity for your affinity;
Show not vanity for your elegance.
Vanity is that one shows oneself high.

Two cows deconstruct Derrida

These two cows were ruminating
and one says, I was listening
to the milkmaid’s transistor

and this French philosopher
was explaining that there’s
no English translation of the French word
‘betise’ except ‘stupidity’ but

‘stupidity’ only refers to man
where the French ‘betise’ means
to behave like an animal…

and the other cow says
well what’s wrong with that

and the first cow says
well his point is, English cows
can’t be stupid; only man
can be stupid..

and the other cow says
well that’s a relief then
so does that mean that French cows
can be stupid

and the first cow says
no because they don’t have a word for it
in French

so the other cow says
so then is it better to be
an English cow
that can’t be stupid
or a French cow
that can’t be called stupid

and the first cow says
who cares, I’ve always said
the French ruminate too much
and then talk bullshit…

and the other cow says
I’m glad I’m a Jersey

what about that French milkmaid
I call sexyhands but
the farmer sometimes calls
a silly cow I wonder what
Derrida would say about that

Battle of the Herrings

A fishing action
North of France
1429 took place
Cause of battle
French vs. English
Anticipation/baited breath
River – flat plain
Set up strategy
Hook/line/sinker
British attacked first
French were slow
English bombarded fish
French did not
want to get
their shoes wet
Were most certain
outflanked by British
French counter attacked
Used Brie instead
of slippery worms
Won the fishing
competition – yelled Viva’
la fishermen French
“What was that”?
asked the English
“What’s the matter
with you cockneys
Hard of Herring? ”

Jane Austen

Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves; vanity, to what we would have others think of us.

Pride and Vanity

Why pride and vanity?
Is it out of jealousy?
Don't show pride and vanity
Because these two are the main cause of being destroyed
So have confidence in your heart secretly
Feel that you will conquer the world with your love
In this way you may succeed in achieving your goals
Remember nobody is perfect
Every human makes mistakes
That is simple and truth!

The pride and the vanity

Flaunt if you have it.
If you don’t, why have you it?
Pride is your opinion about yourself;
Vanity is a display
To secure others’ opinion
About you in exaltation.
If rich, be rich; it is pride.
If poor, be poor; it is pride.
The rich being humble
Itself is a vanity.

Take Vanity Away

Oh take vanity away from me.
Make pure only my heart.
For vanity takes away from me
the most important part.
Let him that sees me, see past my form
and concentrate on my soul.
For that is of my body
is never the starring role.
What lies within the strength of my mind
is what should be possessed,
not the image I show to you,
not the way I'm dressed.
For outward appearance cannot compare
to the inner beauty inside.
Please let vanity be cast away
and take away my pride.

Vanity Kills

Have you heard the latest? (you love you)
Have you seen who just walked in (vain vain vain vain)
(uh huh, you love you) right over there
Shes so vain vain vain vain
Vain vain vain vain
Im glad youve found someone who loves you
But sad to say that someone is you
And now perhaps youll both be happy
Guess that makes two just you and you
Someone who cares so much about you
But does that someone have to be you
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom yeah
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom yeah
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, you love you
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, it kills
So glad I found you glancing in the mirror
Gazing deeply at loves patron saint
Admire the frame, survey the scenery
Or are you just inspecting the paint
Temptations strong modestys so weak
High on yourself humble you aint
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom yeah
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom yeah
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, you love you
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, you love you
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills (no way)
Vanity kills, you love you
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, it kills
So vain, vain vain vain
You love you (yeah)
Give it, give it us, give it us
So vain, so vain, so vain
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, you love you
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, you love you
Vanity kills, it dont pay bills
Vanity kills, you love you
Vanity kills, if the blast dont get you
Then the fallout will
You love you

Predisposed

This is my time, this is my time
And now youll go back where you came from
Now is the time to accept, Im right
Was right
Por ser lo mas provocar was wrong
Was wrong
Everythings over and I feel sober
To start my life
That one step took me right there
True intentions are not predisposed to our fear
Searching without a cause
I will not stand here and be controlled
Inside
Lo necesito sin tu control
Im not fine
Siento en me vena ninguna pena
Without a fear
A take that one step right there
True intentions are not predisposed to our fear
Searching without a cause
Like a game of chess I carved your chest
Dont snap back, pull the trigger into my neck
Bust your move, drop the news
Its a crying shame Im feeling all the pain
And you want to slap my face
Youll try to put me in your place
Well Ill step back and then attack
This is my time to get my life back
True intentions are not predisposed to our fear
Searching without a cause

Pride and Prejudice

Elizabeth, I fell in love with you,
Without seeing you in person.
Without being born in your days,
With a figure that I carved of you,
Out of manners written in words
By Jane Austin in Pride and Prejudice.
I have cut such a figure of you in my
thought.
Like of which no heroine could match
If she were to enact you in a play.

You are the epitome of pride,
The pride without vanity,
The pride without humility either;
The pride with a royal aura
Without any royal blood.
You have had such pride as forbade
You even to reveal your love
To one you were deeply in love with,
And to one who condescended to love
Till he himself laboured to spell.

Elizabeth, I fell in love with you
For your pride, poise and composure.

Quatrain #506 - It is said that too much pride....

no matter how big you are or even how small.
When pride or vanity make a conspicuous appearance
those in whom it is evident are stooped in ignorance.

The Language That The Poor Wants To Speak

do you speak good English?
do you take pride in it and then use it to impress others
and swindle them
into a belief that they are inferior?

they have feelings too
of humiliation
which even in such a sad state
wish that their humiliation
speak good English still

they always think that English will give them
a good job
a better standing in the society
a flare of fashionable tongue

you make them cry
but still they want to speak that cry in English too

foolish!

but can you blame them?
you who hold that power and might
you who have taken all what they once had
and made them
worse within
themselves

despite which,
they still want to be like you
to speak like you
a god

how sad!

you have never known the language of love
the grammar of generosity
the syntax of sympathy
that language that good English
sometimes has forgotten
to utter

Harps And Pitchforks

Came the clarion call – oh come, all officials, come
collect diaries and bags to prepare for next year,
obediently we trooped downstairs to receive a
mousepad flashing in orange fluorescence

Took an extra one for Madame Pompadour - missing
in action again; Hanlie took one for June who refused
to leave her chair, too enamoured of her computer
to move at all, this morning June lamented:

Vanity, vanity, all vanity; Hanlie checked Ecclesiastes
for grasshopper similes in four languages: Afrikaans,
English, German and French - June said she would
read the Apocrypha during December

I said I love Muslim stories about Jesus as a real little
cowboy when He was small – said to have shrivelled
his teacher’s arm – Hermien objected, claiming ‘The
little boy Jesus was as sweet as an angel! ’

Hermien has three sons herself, how can she believe it?
Humming happily I returned to my desk, started to edit
recalcitrant documents thinking; soon I shall be in the
veld - golden grass and the glorious sun

In an ineffable African sky – why should I worry whether
Hermien has seen the Apocrypha at all - the picture of the
little Jesus will forever hold sway in my heart - and since
the Church Fathers rejected reincarnation

I accept reincarnation as fact, rejoicing about life ever-
lasting - beyond harps and pitchforks…
