My favorite venues are the 2,000 seat theaters, like the Warfield. If there was a Warfield in every city, I would play it. That's all I would do. I love venues like that.

I still play jazz, and I've always got that trumpet very handy, but I'm coming to feel the classical venues are where my main focus is, in the realm of symphonic pops.

Honoured For Nose
My nose is running, having congestion.
Have to visit doctor for medication.
Loosing taste of mouth, cannot smell rose
But my friend is honoured of his nose.
He is sensitive to the surrounding,
In his duty he proved outstanding,
Being very daring and composed,
Last year promoted to senior post.
A special task he was assigned,
With the police team combined,
On the eve of holidays of new year,
To patrol at venues every where.
Venues suspected were at risk,
Concealed explosive he frisked,
Was planted in a crowded place,
The suspect was thereafter chased.
If the explosive was exploded
Lives of many could have eroded,
Diligence of the sniffer saved those,
So honoured for his amazing nose.

We were gradually playing larger venues and in the early days PA systems were kind of non-existent. So to play loud, we had to use louder equipment. The PA systems back then didn't mic the instruments - only the vocals.

Baby, Wont You Please Come Home
Charles warfield / clarence williams
Baby wont you please come home
cause your daddys all alone
I have tried in vain
Never no more to call your name
When you left you broke my heart
Because I never thought wed part
Every hour in the day
You will hear me say:
- baby come home

Some venues are better run than others. Sometimes it's just maddening to deal with full dinners being served in front of your face. You can have a good or bad show anywhere.

Europeans really provided many venues over there and hailed the jazz artists, and a lot of musicians went over there and stayed over there for a long time. A lot of them moved over there, lived over there, and died over there.

There are so many venues in which stars are exposed today, that we just know much more and the studios don't have the control over stars like they used to, in the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
And one thing I can be proud of is we have a 'Come and Try Fishing' day every year. And there's 20 venues throughout the state, and see, these thousands of kids who've never been fishing come along.
At some of the venues, the audience was so loud we could hardly hear what was happening on stage, which kind of threw us back to 1983, when we had very similar reactions on a much bigger scale.

Acquire someone.
There are venues for you to be happy.
Happiness shines if someone shares it.
It is for you no more happiness but sore
If no one comes forward to share it.

I think the value of venues like CNBC is that they give investors an opportunity to reevaluate the situation minute by minute, but maybe we don't need to follow the market so closely.

As far as the live shows go, we're not leapfrogging all the smaller venues. We would have bypassed these kind of shows and gone straight to the Arena shows, but we didn't want to.
