I read the Life magazine articles about free love and free dope in California. At age 20 I drove to Los Angeles.

Free At Last
Now I am trying to tell you something about my life
Maybe give you insight might just change your life
Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last,
Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last,
Im free from fooling round wasting time,
Floating in this abyss of your dreadful love
Free is a feeling so high in the sky
Higher higher higher
Free from the quarrels unsatisfaction
Free from the false dream that you planted
In me with your submissive love
Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last,
Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last,
Now I am open like the sky
For the sun to shine and colors true
To find me blue
Oh what a joy to be free
Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last,
Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last,
Im free of cheating your poor heart at my own damn expense
The cost was heavy and it rent as a thunder cloud
A hurricane sure racked in my heart
Now the rain is gone and I am gone
Yes, I am moving on
Im free at last, Im free at last, Im free at last,

California
I was converted to the other side
From the day I'd gotten there
I met a girl who took me on a ride
I was young I had no cares
When I moved to California
California
She played me records I had never heard
While we toked on purple hairs
Who, Zeppelin, Beatles
Kiss, The Rolling Stones
While we played guitars in air
When I moved to California
California
California
California love!
Venice Beach and P.O.P.
Station 26 was free
Jeff Ho and Horizons west
Dogtown Skates they were the best
Hang Ten, O.P. were the brands
Don't forget the two-tone Vans
I miss the Apple and my schoolyard boys
Nothing ever will compare
But now I skateboard
With my surfer girl
And we really are a pair
When I moved to California
California
California
California love!

Set It Free
I can see the rain,
Come into my room again.
Broken window pane,
Now reminds me Im alive.
Could it be right,
Givin up, my darlin?
Ill wait for you now,
To remind me why Ive gone.
How I love to write,
Songs that have no answers.
Oh, theres nothin on my mind,
That I want to let go of.
Letting it go on pretendin,
Everything has its way of endin.
And Im a loner,
The way I should be.
Set it free,
Let it free my love to fly,
Set it free.
Set it free,
Let it free my love to be,
Can I be free?
(instrumental)
Still its gotta rain,
Wonder when Ill see a change in weather.
Somethins gettin tangled up again,
And I cant find an end.
Cant let it go on returnin,
Ive given everything that the harlequin boy can find.
And Im tired of trying,
Id rather leave than tell lies.
Set it free,
Let it free my love to fly,
Set it free.
Set it free,
Let it free my love to be,
Youll be free.
Youll be free my love to fly,
Free to be what I cant face.
In love again,
Set it free.
Free,
Set it free,
Set it free my love.
Free,
Set it free,
Set it free my love.

Los Angeles
I met a man
He was a good man
Sailing and shoring
Dancing the beta can-can
Making me foreign
Oh yeah
I want to live in los angeles
Not the one in los angeles
No, not the one in south california
The got one in south patagonia
I want to live in los angeles
Not the one in los angeles
They got a bunch down in moleville
They got a bunch more still
I want to live in los angeles
Not the one is los angeles
They got one in twenty-five two five
Works just like a beehive
I want to live in los angeles
Not the one in los angeles
Counting helicopters on a saturday night
The symphony of the fair light
I hear them saying los angeles
In all the black and white movies
And if you think they star-spangled us
How come we say los angeleez?
Ill wait in los angeles
Ill wait in the pouring sun
No way
For not anyone
No way
I met a man
He was a good man
Sailing and shoring
He got a betatron, man
Talking that foreign
Oh yeah
Ill wait in los angeles
Ill wait in the pouring sun
No way
For not anyone
No way

I Am Free
Once I was a prisoner
Lost inside myself
With the world surrounding me
Wandering through the misery
But now I am free
You gave me a breath of life
Unclouded my eyes
With a sweet serenity
Lighting a ray of hope for me
And now I am free
Free to live
Free to laugh
Free to soar
Free to shine
Free to give
Free to love
Free enough to fly
Once I was all so alone
Unsteady and cold
But your love rained down upon me
Washing away uncertainty
But now
I am free

Ill Never Set You Free
Theres nothing I can say
Theres nothing I can do
To show you the love
That I got for you
Theres nothing in this world
That could ever take your place
When I look into your eyes
I see a sweet face
Ill never set you free
till you give your love to me
cos I love you (Ill never set, set you free)
And I need you (Ill never set, set you free)
Yes I want you (Ill never set, set you free)
cos I love you (Ill never set, set you free)
Will you open up your heart
So love could make a start
I know that if you do
Dreams will come true
Ill never set you free
till you give your love to me
cos I love you (Ill never set, set you free)
And I need you (Ill never set, set you free)
Yes I want you (Ill never set, set you free)
cos I love you (Ill never set, set you free)
Ill never set you free
till you give your love to me
Theres nothing you can do
To stop my love for you
cos I love you (Ill never set, set you free)
And I need you (Ill never set, set you free)
Yes I want you (Ill never set, set you free)
cos I love you (Ill never set, set you free)

I'm Free
I'm free
as free as the birds
as free as the clouds
as free as the wind.
I'm free to sing
even if my voice
is not like the voice of an angel
I'm free to dance
even if I'm out of the rhythm
I'm free to cry
even if it means to worry you
I'm free to laugh
even if my heart is aching
I'm free to love
even if it will only hurt me
I'm free to dream
even if I cannot reach it.
I'm free
as free as the birds
as free as the clouds
as free as the wind.
I'm free to be happy
even if I'm in the middle of crisis
I'm free to live
even if it will then
end in dying.
I'm free
as free as the birds
as free as the clouds
as free as the wind.
I'm free...
I'm free!

John Sinclair
It aint fair, john sinclair,
In the stir for breathing air.
Wont you care for john sinclair,
In the stir for breathing air?
Let him be, set him free,
Let him be like you and me.
They gave him ten for two,
What else can the judges do?
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got to set him free.
If hed been a soldier man,
Shooting gooks in vietnam,
If he was the c.i.a.,
Selling dope and making hay,
Hed be free, theyd let him be,
Breathing air like you and me.
Right on!
They gave him ten for two,
What else can the judges do?
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got to set him free, free!
They gave him ten for two,
They got old lee otis too!
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,
We got, we got, we got, we got to set him free, free now!
Was he jailed for what he done
Or representing evryone?
Free john now, if you can,
From the clutches of the man.
Let him be, lift the lid,
Bring him home to his wife and kids.
Alright!
They gave him ten for two,
What else can the bastards do?
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,
We got, we got, we got, we got, we got,

Got To Be Free
(malik pendelton/nicole johnson)
Ive got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Ive got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Long goodbyes, stolen glances
Cant explain all thats happened in our past
Im tired of creating lies to be alone
Im living wrong, were living wrong
More and more you make me
Afraid to come around
You take the pleasure out of being in love
And being down and down and down and down and down
For the one whos there for me
All I really want to be is free, yeah
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
You dont know why, havent got a clue
In the dark about why I am leaving you
You cant expect me to go on this way
No, I cannot stay, I will not stay
More and more you make me
Realize what I have home
Whats taboos exciting
But sometimes it just gets old
Sometimes it just gets old
For as long as I am me, boy
All I really want to be is free
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free
Ive got to be free, got to be free
Gotta be, gotta be free

California Revisited
Heaven may be an answer
If you're lookin' for eden in the sky
On your waters i see a strange reflection
Rumor has it i'll see you when i die
Everyone i meet is from california
There's dancin' in the streets in california
In california you watch the shadow dancer
Floating gently, gently on the sea
In california you're such a strange romancer
Come and see me when the world has set you free
Everyone i meet is from california
There's dancin' in the streets in california
Everyone i meet is from california
There's dancin' in the streets in california

Candid And Vivid
From Rome to Lapaz,
Who then catches a thief and set him free? !
From Los Angeles to Mamprobi,
Who then burns down houses and have never been caught?
From Soeul to Darkuman,
Who then rapes a child and still walks around free?
Life, war, stones, stars;
And like the life from Genesis to Revelation!
But, very candid and vivid.
Knowledge talks and wisdom listens,
But love is the key when you have understanding;
And, i have nothing to hide from you my love.
The darkness comes and it is full of evil!
And like the candid and vivid facts of an affair;
But, who then catches a thief and set him free?
Principles, morals, relationships, love, responsibilities, reliabilities! !
And like the works of the inhabitants of this earth;
But, who then rapes a child and still walks around free?

Free
I wanna know when you're gonna come
I wanna jump when you wanna jump
I wanna touch where it makes you mine
I wanna push till I get it right
Cause I'm free
Free to do the dirty things you like
I'm free
Free enough to do what's on my mind
When you go down and freak on me
That's when I'm free
That's when I'm free
I wanna fall so you can pick me up
I wanna scream until it hurts
When you think that I can't come up
I'm gonna lay down and show you what's right
Cause I'm free
Free to do the dirty things you like
I'm free
Free enough to do what's on my mind
When you go down and freak on me
That's when I'm free
That's when I'm free
I know what you're thinking
That you can't deny
Don't act like you don't want it darling you can't lie
Let me read your mind so I can come inside
Say you want it, say you want it one more time
I'm free
Cause I'm free
Free to do the dirty things you like
I'm free
Free enough to do what's on my mind
When you go down and freak on me
That's when I'm free, yeah
That's when I'm free, woah
I'm free
Don't you know I'm free
Don't you know I'm free and high

Freedom Now
They throwed him in jail
And they kept him there
Hoping soo hed die
That his body and spirit would waste away
And soon after that his mind
But every day is born a fool
One who thinks that he can rule
One who says tomorrows mine
One who wakes one day to find
The prison doors open the shackles broken
And chaos in the street
Everybody sing were free free free free
Everybody sing were free free free free
Everybody sing were free free free free
They throwed him in jail
And they kept him there
Hoping his memoryd die
That the people forget how he once led
And fought for justice in their lives
But every day is born a man
Who hates what he cant understand
Who thinks the answer is to kill
Who thinks his actions are gods will
And he thinks hes free free free free
Yes he thinks hes free free free free
He thinks hes free free free free
Soon must come the day
Whe the righteous have their way
Unjustly tried are free
And people live in peace I say
Give the man release
Go on and set your conscience free
Right the wrongs you made
Even a fool can have his day
Let us all be free free free free
Let us all be free free free free
Let us all be free free free free
Free our bodies free our minds
Free our hearts
Freedom for everyone
And freedom now
Freedom now
Freedom now
Freedom now
Let us all be free free free free
Let us all be free free free free
Let us all be free free free free

Los Angeles
City of glam, city of crime
People are fake, you're no friend of mine
Club fights, dancing through the night
We're kids living the dream under the lights
We're in Los Angeles
Dancing through the night in Los Angeles
Hollywood trash in Los Angeles
Being ourselves in Los Angeles
Never losing Los Angeles
City of High, city of low
Selling drugs, we're losing our souls
Walking the strip with one goal
We're gonna live our dream, no one can stop us all
We're in Los Angeles
Dancing through the night in Los Angeles
Hollywood trash in Los Angeles
Being ourselves in Los Angeles
Never losing Los Angeles
Girls in my world
Music in my ears
Pain in my tears
Rock in my veins
Nothing in my brain
I think i'm going insane
That's all i need in Los Angeles
We're in Los Angeles
Dancing through the night in Los Angeles
Hollywood trash in Los Angeles
Being ourselves in Los Angeles
Never losing Los Angeles
We're in Los Angeles
Dancing through the night in Los Angeles

Drug Free America
We believe in a drug free amerika
A drug free amerika for me
Thats the way we believe
That way that it should be
Drug free amerika for me
Like in amsterdamn where drugs
Are bought and sold legally
Lets take it one step further
And make them all for free
Drug free amerika for me
Say nope to dope when its not free
Say nah to drugs save you money
Dont listen to facts just sit back
And relax and help make our country

We Can Be
Talk with me
I believe that we can find a tomorrow
Lend to me and I will try to borrow
I can see you and me
Love is free
We can be free
Sing with me
Melodies that soar as high as a swallow
I can lead the way if you will follow
I can see you and me
Love is free
We can be free
You show me
Words of beauty that describe your love
Let me know the things that you are sure of
I can see you and me
Love is free
We can be free
You know me
Im as reckless as a mountain stream
Careless as a could-be, someday dream
I can see you and me
Love is free
We can be free

Free!
free!
free to be hungry!
free to be homeless!
free to be underpaid!
or worse, free to be unemployed.
free to be sick without care!
free to be the object of racial prejudice.
free to be oppressed by the 'haves'!
free to be subjugated to unholy wars!
free to be lied to!
free to be used!
free to be American!
free!

for nothing left to lose! '

And, Like The Wind
Free to love
Free to suffer
Free to heal
Free to cover
All of the pain,
Within me that remained
And free to pretend,
Nothing has changed
Free to laugh
Free to cry
Free to accept
And,
Free to deny.
I had gambled,
On love again!
But,
Like a wind
I-am-free,
To go.
Free to love
But,
Like a wind
I-am-free,
To go!
But,
Like a wind
I-am-free,
To go!
Free to laugh.
Free to cry.
Free to accept.
And,
Free to deny.
I had gambled,
On love again!
But,
Like a wind
I-am-free,
To go.
But,
Like a wind
I-am-free,
To go!
But,
Like a wind
I-am-free,
To go!
And,
Like the wind
I-am-free,
To go!
