A book reaches a different crowd of people. There are 50 different stories of very different individuals participating in their communities either locally or nationally in meaningful ways.

When I think about the world I would like to leave to my daughter and the grandchildren I hope to have, it is a world that moves away from unequal, unstable, unsustainable interdependence to integrated communities - locally, nationally and globally - that share the characteristics of all successful communities.

The Golden Book
If life is an endless cycle,
How come it stops?
For there is no stop,
Merely a pause
Because the human mind,
Is an endless cycle of stories
Stories which are forgotten,
Remembered only when one reaches the light
The light being a golden book,
Of ones history of happiness
Within this book of eternity,
Lies a deeper truth
Life is forever
Life is endless
Life is eternal
Life is worth living
But life is limited, possibilities are endless
For life is short,
Merely a chapter in the golden book

The Comfort in Talking Shop
there is a warmth that comes with the talk of work-
when two or more individuals converse about skills & their
prospective mutual context,
of which they may or may not have worked together in
for weeks, months or
years,
but which all parties speaking
know something about because they all hold relevant
experience
in the area being discussed-
people who genuinely work at their jobs,
whatever they may be,
are able to find a kind of sustenance in the work itself
which others may never find,
if they spend their whole lives
complaining
about every little thing it is that they do-
these individuals
may never know the comfort
which comes with discussing the simple nuances
of a job that is shared,
which brings with it no obligation except
the present work that is needed to be
done-
unlike other communities which members of a workplace may also be involved in,
together or alone,
the job
brings with it a sense of solidarity
that may be unique to our species
&
which can lead to discussions of past employment and
past experiences in our lives
revealing that our paths have led us to such a specific
juncture in time
wherein we now toil
together,
until that time when we part ways & move on.

Window Dressing
They would rather not,
Have their dirty laundry exposed locally...
On the streets.
To them that is offensive.
And the mention of this,
By those wishing to unite their efforts...
Is considered negative.
And methods used to keep people divided,
Remain.
However,
If probed nationally on TV...
This allows an ineffective leadership,
To solicit for funding.
With visits to neighbors long neglected.
With a window dressing...
Complete with dignitaries smiling,
Pushing new brooms followed by children...
With a showing of their support,
As a way of approaching urban renewal.
And a hopeful boost to superficial images...
Fresh tee shirts worn with uplifting slogans are shown.
With all agreeing they are doing the best they can.
But could use additional benefactors to aid their cause.

The Meaning of Sport
If our lives are written in sport,
Endless lines that reach the nethers and tort,
In sympathy and affection; loyalty gone for the reasons of our team,
Are we not tropes of a wider kalideoscope
Where what is not important is transferred to the pub or terraces,
So we can sit it in bars for the sake of a hopeful win
That ends in the tapas room and bearpit
Where we feel locally loyal or nationally proud
And throw our drunken weight, outside, inside
And feel better at the end of an everchanging, inconsequential tide.

Two Minutes
The whole world mourns collectively.
For two brief minutes once a year
It's organised efficiently.
Both locally and nationally.
Two minutes to show we respect.
The men who fought for liberty
and died in order to protect.
The ones they love at any price
From a determined enemy
Who made the final sacrifice.
Remembrance Day when we parade
and take two minutes to reflect.
On sacrifices which were made.
Each one worthy of respect.

Without That Kind Of Interruption
I've had those in my life...
Who believed,
I should be fulfilling 'their' dreams.
I should be acting on stages.
Or be seen on movie screens.
I've even had those,
Who have heard my compositions.
And thought I should sing.
Or because of my voice...
I'd make a great announcer,
On a radio station of my choice.
But,
I've always been a writer.
And that few people knew.
Although I am surprised by that...
Because for years my comments have appeared,
In local newspapers for anyone to view.
And that's a fact.
There is not one talent I have,
That I have not exposed.
And I still have my own dreams to pursue.
While those passing judgement,
And offering their nonsolicited critique...
Have yet to succeed.
Because they are in the business of others,
Like most gossip driven nonproductive folk.
And most of my life I have been quite happy,
Validating my skills.
With a doing of it,
Locally.
Nationally.
And internationally too.
But I must admit I am uncomfortable,
Bragging about what it is I do.
And many people do not have this as an issue.
With the hope that only a few 'selected' knew.
'IF I had your talents,
The whole world would know who I am.'
~Maybe that is the reason,
I have been given them.
To let them evolve...
Without that kind of interruption.~

Is The Battle Worth Fighting?
some individuals fight battles
with other individuals needlessly
some individuals are never long
content with getting their own way
some individuals fight ferociously
to dominate all those around about
some individuals who cannot safe vent dominate
their own desires seek to next dominate all others
some individuals who cannot control own emotions
seek to control all within range sphere of influence

There will not be one kind of community existing and one kind of life led in utopia. Utopia will consist of utopias, of many different and divergent communities in which people lead different kinds of lives under different institutions. Some kinds of communities will be more attractive to most than others; communities will wax and wane. People will leave some for others or spend their whole lives in one. Utopia is a framework for utopias, a place where people are at liberty to join together voluntarily to pursue and attempt to realize their own vision of the good life in the ideal community but where no one can impose his
own utopian vision upon others.

These Are Symptoms
Rather than to admit to madness,
It was left unaddressed and explosed.
Rather than prevent it in its steps,
And arresting its progress...
The symptoms were ignored,
As a decision everyone then chose.
Locally,
People were still stuck...
In a 'they' and 'them' mindset.
Having no interests in backyard events.
Not even to be curious enough,
To take a peek through the fence.
Set in their ways and making less sense.
Accepting and tolerating a decline of their lives.
Not wishing to cause trouble...
So they kept their mouths closed,
To minimize the hassle.
And made any complaints,
In muffled tones in their homes.
As if a disease had arrived to condone.
And one did!
Rather than to admit to madness,
It was left unaddressed and explosed.
Rather than prevent it in its steps,
And arresting its progress...
The symptoms were ignored,
As a decision everyone then chose.
Locally,
People were still stuck...
In a 'they' and 'them' mindset.
Having no interests in backyard events.
Not even to be curious enough,
To take a peek through the fence.
Set in their ways and making less sense.
And...
Babbling incoherently.
Pointing to each other as another would agree.

Any Street In Any Town
Look down any street
in any town across the land
at the rows of houses there.
Then you begin to wonder
what memories each house shares.
Some of happiness
where dreams have come true.
Some are of sadness
where lives have been hurt by pain.
Some with tragic stories
they never want to share again.
Each house will have many stories
of the individuals whom lived there.
Each story will be different
from all the rest.
Each leave memories
in every room they slept.
Their stories are unending
as new families come along.
