As the director of an opera, it is my responsibility to unify the style of the particular performance, but one can certainly approach the piece from different points of view. That's what makes it interesting and keeps it alive.

If you approach an opera as though it were something that always went a certain way, that's what you get. I approach an opera as though I didn't know it.

From a writing point of view, you now have teams of screenwriters working with a director. What's lost in the process is the power of that one heart, brain, gut and soul that makes something an original piece of writing.

Two Points Of View
You, always making promises
Who gets the blame for your mistakes
You, made a game of politics
Now fear and guilt on your face
But I cant feel your pain
And I wont share your shame
All I know is what I feel
Music sets me free
I dont mind walking in the rain
Ooh, tears of heaven soothe my pain
Love is the sound that makes me sing
I love to play a melody
But you cant hear the sound
But you cant, you cant feel the beat
All I know is what I feel
Music sets me free
I dont mind walking in the rain
Ooh, tears of heaven soothe my pain
Love is the sound that makes me sing
I love to play a melody
But you cant hear the sound
But you cant, you cant feel the beat
All I know is what I feel
Music sets me free
Two points of view
Two points of view
Two points of view
One for me, and one for you
But you cant hear the sound
But you cant, you cant feel the beat
All I know is what I feel
Music sets me free
Two points of view
Two points of view
Two points of view
One for me and one for you

So I wanted to explore all points of view of that, not just the girl's but his point of view as well. Only by directing it could I explore all the points of view.

There was an interesting article in Los Angeles Magazine about women directors. A woman director makes one bad independent film and her career is over. Guys tend to get an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
But at the same time, never having final cut before, I really learned an interesting thing for any studio executive who is reading this: that if a director has final cut, it's actually easier and more interesting to listen to notes.

Last week I did a piece for Style on advice to Laura Bush about how to help her husband. This week it's religion. It just depends on what I find interesting at the moment.

That was my way, and I also use the music after five years, I started hearing opera, opera, it was very good instrument to keep the spirit very strong because you feel like you are yourself singing opera, and I used to hear a lot of opera, they send me tapes.

Take Another
said no way
but knew I'd try some day
sad but true
it still won't wash away
and I can't take you with me
I can't tell you what to do
I got a sieve inside me
a pit inside me
I got a nowhere point of view
it makes me wanna
take another piece
take it out on me
my ambition fell and hit the ground
pick those pieces
pick them from the ground
and I can't take you with me
I can't tell you what to do
I got a sieve inside me
I got a pit inside
I got a nowhere point of view
It makes me
take another piece
take it out on me

reality
There is no backstage...
Nor a prop table.
Stage manager? No.
There is no lighting
Sound
Assistant director,
Or make up artist!
This is raw and upfront!
If what is said makes you vomit...
Do so at your own risk!
Once 'REALITY' starts,
All exits will be closed!
This performance promises
To nail you to your seat!

Now the big question is if you are going to go to all the trouble of setting an opera and making all that music and so on, there's got to be some aspect that you can do in an opera that really makes it worth while.

Loving You Is Crazy
loving you i know
is absurd
crazy
and hazy, for i do not
even know you,
but the image of love
still
sticks in my mind,
this imagination
of you
like a phantom
in the opera of my
brain
i like to dissolve
this feeling
in the ocean of
forgetting,
but how can i?
i who needs
you, as an inspiration,
you the unknown
you the mystery
you keep me alive
everything interesting
tasting half
or even just one-millionth
of what i have
not actually touched
and seen
you are the unknown
you are here
beside me
still without a name
and body.

Sometimes films ignore other points of view because it's simpler to tell the story that way, but the more genuine and sympathetic you are to different points of view and situations, the more real the story is.

A Favorite View From Here
something so human
very much like us
or myself,
i see from here and i always come back for it
wishing that i get fed up
and become free
but no
it is always in my mind and no matter how many times i view it
it is still a favorite
it tickles every nerve
makes me alive
so forgive me
soon i must leave what you think is best for me
i go and sit and watch and wait
the suspense for a lifetime
something that grows inside myself
stands up and strong
makes me alive.

But nevertheless, it's music ultimately that matters in opera, and opera is a piece of music reaching out as a vision in sound reaching out to the world.

Style
Style must not be underrated
Style is often overlooked
Style is never in the papers
I read it like an open book
Style
If you cant see the substance
Style shows how its organized
Style is looking for your money
Its in the way you paint your eyes
There is always a way
A way things are done
Ive been learning my abcs
I know what is 10, I know what is 1 in
Style is a naked look
Underneath your style
Style of a different place
Talking through your style
Even the way you hide it
Reveals the thing you hide
Your style may never cause a riot
Its still a style to have no style
There is always a way
To light up a lamp
Its been a crazy year all around
The check never came
I cant let it cramp my
Style is a world for sale
You cant buy this style
Style that you cant resist
You wont cramp my style
