Given that there was that era of girl group music and it's still very popular, but I think if you looked at the chart from that time you would see many more men on it. Because the industry, they were catering to young girls. I mean, that's what they thought their audience was.

The It Girl

The It Girl-
Someone who's stuck up and rude,
Someone who doesn't care about anyone but themselves,
Someone who is spoiled and gets anything,
Someone who hates anyone who isn't just like them..

The It Girl-
The girl who is popular,
The girl who is rich,
The girl who has money in the bank,
The girl who gets the guys.

The It Girl-
The cheerleaders,
The preps,
The dance team,
The ditzy girls.

The It Girl-
She's the one who craves attention,
She's the one who acts mean and hateful,
She's the one who will be in trouble later one,
She's the one I will never be.

When I Was A Young Girl

(A Song of Old Ballads)

WHEN I was a young girl, all in a green arbor,
When I was a young girl in Springtimes gone by
All the long days I went singing and smiling,
Down by the roses the sweet days beguiling,
Love in the arbor and love in the sky . . .
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, how happy was I!

Oh, the long days I must sit at my sampler,
Oh, the slow way that the still time would go!
I longed to be running across the bright heather,
'Off with the silk gown and on with the leather,
Following the raggle-taggle gypsies, oh!'
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, a long time ago!

When I was a young girl in days that were golden,
When I was a young girl, and life had no smart,
All the world seemed a place for my playing,
Full of great lovers to come to me, saying,
'Madam, I give you the keys of my heart . . .'
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, and dreaming apart!

When I was a young girl, I dreamed of my lover,
A tall cavalier who should whisper me low,
'Love, on your lips are red roses a-blowing,
I am your true love, and fast is time going
Am I your true love? Oh, say yes or no!'
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl–
When I was a young girl, a long time ago!

When I was a young girl there came my true lover,
Swiftly I knew him in glad days gone by;
Never a sword or a lovelock or feather,
But oh, at his touch 'twas our hearts came together,
Love in the arbor and love in the sky . . .
When I was a young girl, a young girl, a young girl,
When I was a young girl, how happy was I!

Dancing At The Rainbow Grill

Downtown in front of a renowned, teenage hangout,
Every weekend evening we formed a jovial group,
Boys and girls together would converse and frolic
While a jukebox played popular music on a stoop,
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.

There is where Henry Shane and littleJoey Quinn,
With Nicky Walker, a comedian, who stole the show,
The robust Charlie Wagner, with a petite, pretty girl
First picked up the footwork for the rock and roll
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.

Round and round the dance floor the couples twirled,
As the jukebox played ' The Twist' or 'Blueberry Hill',
Boys and girls together, versatile and lightfooted,
The body motion and musical tempo created a thrill
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.

Times have changed since those memorable evenings,
The group has gone afar now, but they must feel like me,
They would cherish a moment once more to freely dance
With their favorite dancer just like it use to be
On the dance floor of the Rainbow Grill.

Younger Girls

Words and music by robin zander and rick nielsen
Try to bend me, try to shake me
Try and turn my head around
Oh try to change me, rearrange me
I think you know about the boy you found
A fantasy like this is hit and run
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
I had a dream about girls like you
You said call us, you'll get two
One for your money, two for the show
I'll give you something more
I know,i know,i know,i know
It's hard enough to make you wanna cry
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
It's hard enough to make you wanna cry
And it drives me out of my mind
I'm in love with you, baby
My poor innocent baby
Don't you say maybe
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
Feels so good, let me in
I might jump right out of my skin
Don't you ever grow up little girl
Sweet young thing, not so innocent
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
Younger girls
Oh how i love those younger girls
(repeat to coda)

Lewis Carroll

A Game of Fives

Five little girls, of Five, Four, Three, Two, One:
Rolling on the hearthrug, full of tricks and fun.

Five rosy girls, in years from Ten to Six:
Sitting down to lessons - no more time for tricks.

Five growing girls, from Fifteen to Eleven:
Music, Drawing, Languages, and food enough for seven!

Five winsome girls, from Twenty to Sixteen:
Each young man that calls, I say "Now tell me which you mean!"

Five dashing girls, the youngest Twenty-one:
But, if nobody proposes, what is there to be done?

Five showy girls - but Thirty is an age
When girls may be engaging, but they somehow don't engage.

Five dressy girls, of Thirty-one or more:
So gracious to the shy young men they snubbed so much before!

Five passe girls - Their age? Well, never mind!
We jog along together, like the rest of human kind:
But the quondam "careless bachelor" begins to think he knows
The answer to that ancient problem "how the money goes"!

Young Girl

Young girl Abused and broken
Young girl Alone and Frightened
Young girl Worthless and Ugly
Young girl feels so alone
She has no one to hold her
Young girl's father to drunk to even care
The young girl gets beaten everyday
The young girl wanting to runaway
Young girl will not leave her father alone
Like he has done to her
This young girl's teacher has a note
She reads the note aloud to the class
This young girl was beaten to death

No one had the guts to save her
This young girl bruised and dead
This young girl buried in the cold ground
This young girl has no one to visit her grave
No one asked her how she got her bruises
No one even took a second chance
Goodbye young girl fly away into the arms of God
For He loved you and always will
This young girl happy again

Marie (unattainable love)

When I wake up in the morning my first thought is of Marie,
She’s the girl I think of all the time, she’s the girl I want for me.
Her smile is so inviting, her eyes of full of glee,
She’s the girl I think of all the time, she’s the girl I want for me.
Because she is so beautiful, I love her tenderly,
She’s the girl I think of all the time, she’s the girl I want for me.
Though she is so far from me, so far across the sea,
She’s the girl I think of all the time, she’s the girl I want for me.
At times I raise my head in prayer, Oh Lord please hear my plea,
She’s the girl I want to be with, she’s the girl I want for me.

My heart’s in Indiana, where the rest of me should be,
With the girl I think of all the time, with the girl I want for me.
And though I’ve never met her, to my heart she has the key,
She’s the girl I think of all the time, she’s the girl I want for me.
And in my dreams she whispers that she’ll never set me free,
But she’s the girl I think of all the time, she’s the girl I want for me.
It really breaks my heart in two that my dream may never be,
With the girl I think of all the time, with the girl I want for me.
And when I close my eyes at night, my last thought is of Marie,
Of the girl I think of all the time, of the girl I want for me

Good Girl

I'll be a good girl
You will not have to worry about me
I will sing a sweet lullaby in your sleep
Even though the nightmare is
Creeping on the back of my mind

Because they always whisper to me

Good girls don't laugh hard
Good girls don't play heart
Good girls don't cry bad
Good girls don't show dark

Good girls don't taste devil
Good girls don't ring the bell
Good girls don't touch the hell
Good girls don't break the shell

I'll be your perfect girl
I will do as your loving little angel
I'll walk the path that you choose me to follow
Even though I want to run
I want to run beyond the sea

Because they always pushing me

Good girls don't make a mess
Good girls always do the best
Good girls don't kick hornet's nest
Good girls always take less rest

Good girls always tell the right
Good girls never need to hide
Good girls always shine and bright
Good girls never want anyone sad

I'll be your sweet girl
So you couldn't find a fault on me
You won't see a flaw from my dead body
Even though oh,
I'm twisted and rotten inside

Because they always preaching me

Good girls always keep promise
Good girls always loved to be kissed
Good girls always glow in breeze
Good girls always easy to be missed

Good girls always create a great ballad
Good girls always leave the jealous mad
Good girls always have a clear path
Good girls always be a strong impact

I'll be your only precious girl
There will be century ahead
Before you could throw me heartlessly
There will be ageless of wait
Before you could accuse me guilty

But they never satisfied and say

Good girls is merely an act
Good girls is only beautiful facade
Good girls save cruelty inside
Good girls could manipulate the fact

Good girls just looked innocence
Good girls never defeated in reason
Good girls secretly use their presence
Good girls always own the last person

Bad Girl

Bad girls
Talking about the sad girls
Sad girls
Talking About bad girls, yeah
See them out on the street at night, walkin'
Picking up on all kinds of strangers
If the price is right
You can't score if you're pocket's tight
But you want a good time
You ask yourself who they are
Like everybody else, they come from near and far
Bad girls
Talking about the sad girls
Sad girls
Talking About bad girls, yeah
Friday night and the strip is hot
Sun's gone down and they're out to trot
Spirit's high and legs look hot
Do you wanna get down?
Now don't you ask yourself who they are?
Like everybody else, they wanna be a star
Now you and me we're both the same
But you call yourself by different names
Now your mama won't like it when she finds out
That her girl is out at night
Street talkin', street walkin'
Hey, mister, have you got a dime?
Mister, do you want to spent some time? Oh, yeah
I got what you want, you got what I need
I'll be your baby, come and spend it on me
Sad Girls, you such a dirty bad girl
Beep-Beep uh uh
You bad girl you sad girl
you such a dirty bad girl
Beep-Beep uh uh

Yo yo yo yo jump
When I tell you make your way up to the front
Addicted to the way I kick it I know what you want
The don jiggy catering to what your feeling
Pack it to the floor up to the ceiling

Yo watch cause we don't care how much time it's gonna take
Dance floor packed and it's lookin' like a lake
It's obduction here's your instructions
Slide
Get up off that wall girl stop tryin' to hide
Trackin' afrodesiac won't be denied
Chill with that cigarette take it outside
Messin' with my vibe
I don't like that
Bounce
I'm a press your player when it counts
Party like a lamb and a wolf about to pounce
The don jiggy catering to what you're feeling
Pack it to the floor up to the ceiling

Bring it on the nothing
Ain't no time for fun things (come on)
Just let it flow (jump on)

The only floor is jumpin'
Ooh these girls are somethin' (come on)

She Loved Me; I Loved Her Not

She was not the prettiest flower in the bouquet
but she had a perfumed heart

which shone through in a radiant smile and gentle nature;
she loved me dearly.

I, I awakened to puberty blinded by blond curls
and cheerleader bodies

and to those nasty girls
who flirted with my hormones
shaking me into the boy-way and impure thoughts;

sometimes at the wrong time
as the girls filed by us boys
we both on our
way to the gym and my embarrassment.

Where sometimes I had to skip gym and make excuses.
Audrey watched from afar;

I was not so much oblivious of how she felt
and I felt she was nice but, too nice

to be despoiled by what I wanted from girls
I wanted the fast girls because fast knows fast

and I was definitely fast in my sloppy jeans.

So like attracted like.

Like bears and honey

And like bears and honey

I didn't care if I got stung
I wanted honey.

Every boy in my school wanted the same three girls;

every girl in my school wanted the same three boys

the rest of us were bystanders, spectators and critics

to scenes we were not part of

not even able to offer solace to others like ourselves because

to be in the not-popular group was to be a social failure;

and who wants to associate with social failures-
no one that's who.

Being seen together

only drew attention to your failed status in life.

No one wants that right?

Audrey stood by watching me hunger for the popular girls

particularly Carly
who was my female succubus,

who could arouse in me
such that at times I dared not stand up.

Carly was the one who knew how to flirt

how to move my hormones with just a glance;

how to flip her hair

how to bend over to pick up that mythical pencil

how to always look available

whether she had a boyfriend or not

how to perform in lunch-room theater

scenes of a princess eating

several kinds of food stuffs from soup to hotdogs,

to ice cream cones

which drove the boys crazy

where Life would stand still for the boys and the girls
and also for some male faculty members
who too would
become frozen in time
whenever Carly, took up her comestibles.

The girls watched too angry-eager to learn how to imitate
-envious critical condemning, castigating
totally in awe of what Carly could do to boys.

She had the gift of innocent sexuality,
no better, the gift of a innocent playful sexuality
naughty but not seedy,
a young girl in a woman's body,
natural senuous movements which gave promise
of her inner woman to be.

She was of course learning of her ability
to attract boys and men
but her learning was so public
and she learned to accommodate the stares and
mini-hatreds and lusts of others
on the stage she had placed upon
which made her internal development public out of necessity.

She was used to all eyes upon her.

And even then I realized that Carly was also a symbol of how everything and anything could be given a sexual interpretation
not only by us boys, but the girls as well
and as well by the adults,
some of whom hated Carly's natural sexuality
and other adults there
who hated her
and that very same sexuality
as a sign of the devils work
or worse,
made them feel that sexuality
against their will-same as the young boys.

No one it seemed was immune
from the powerful pull of Carly's natural sexuality.

Carly lived in the middle of this maelstrom.

I found Audrey one Friday
(Carly and her popular group came to the cafeteria
only on Fridays,
hence her appearances were extra special
to all concerned
since they were not frequent.)

One day, as I was saying,
I saw Audrey outside the cafeteria
and the moment her eyes met mine

she started to cry.

Not understanding
I asked her what was the matter.

'Nothing.' she said turning away
but that was the first day I started to see her

as a real person,
not a girlfriend mind you
rather I started to see her as a comrade in suffering.

I vowed to ask her who she was in love with
assuming she shared my predicament.

And I thought we could help each other.

I thought I would call her.

Without further words Audrey walked away
humiliated but happy so happy that I had noticed her.

She vowed that she would fight for me

she would walk up to me in the school corridor
and kiss me on the cheek;
that is what she would do
to make me understand how she felt about me.

To make me see that she was the one
who loved me

that really understood me.

That is what she decided to do

That night she planned it out:

Lip gloss, short skirt, tight top,
she would be a new Audrey and get my attention

and make me forget the nasty girls.

Girls, big and brassy,
Girls, small and sassy,
Just give me one of each kind
Im just a red blooded boy
And I cant stop thinkin about
Girls! girls! girls! girls!
And when I pick up a sandwich too much
A crunchy crunchety
A crunchety crunch
I never ever get to finish my lunch
Because theres always bound to be a bunch of
Girls, in tight sweaters,
Girls, in short dresses,
A walkin and wigglin by, yay, yay, yay

So pretty, lord I could cry.

Young Man, Older Woman

Hey young girl
Stop teasing me
This is not
How our love should be
Hey my girl
Stop holding me
Free me my baby
From these bonds I can not see
You are my women
I am your man
Yet when we struggle
How alone I must stand
Now listen young girl
You must understand
The natural respect
You must give to every man
Young Girl
Take your time
Young girl
Your such a young girl
Hey young girl
Stop teasing me
This is not
How our world should be
Trust me my baby
Stop holding me
We can be happy
If you just believe in me
You are my woman
I am your man
Why must you wonder
If the world will understand
Now listen young girl
You can’t control me
Free me my baby
From these bonds I can not see
Young girl
Your such a young girl
Young girl
Take your time young girl

Little Girls

Its not fair what
They put me through
Please tell me what
Am I supposed to do
Why do I get myself
In this situation
There must be some
Logical answers why
I rob the cradle
Can this be love
Or just infactuation
Little girl
Come out and play
I got some candy
For my baby
Its your sweet
Sixteenth birthday
Celebration
Thank heaven for
Little girls
Who grow up in a
Most peculiar way
You might think shes
Too young for me
(little girls)
You know I always say
Youre as young
As you feel (as you feel)
Yeah, I might be crazy
cause I like them so young
(little girls)
But with little girls
The best is yet to come
Come (yet to come)
Some they say
Im too old for her
Old enough
To be her father
Incestual blood is
Thicker than water
Do whats right
Not morally wrong
Flesh and blood
Can only be so strong
And its my god
Not yours
Ill have to answer

Girls Of Summer

When winter hush turns summer pink
In half the time it takes to blink
But it all depends on what'choo think
About the girls of summer

When all you think of all day long
Is a pretty face inside a song
With a thought like that you can't go wrong
About the girls of summer

Oh yeah... (Do you know... everybody knows now)

Some girls are all about it
Some girls they love to let it fly
Some girls can't live without it
Some girls are born to make you cry

Over and over again

My favorite thing that drives me wild
Is when a city girl walks a country mile
For a boy she loves God bless the child
Inside the girls of summer

Oh yeah... (Do you know... everybody knows now)

Some girls are all about it
Some girls they love to let it fly
Some girls can't live without it
Some girls are born to make you cry

Yeah... over and over again
Yeah... yeah... yeah... yeah... yeah

They get'choo climbin' the walls
They get'choo caught in their spell
They get'choo speakin' in tongues
Could this be Heaven or Hell
To fall in love twice a day
Is such a sweet place to be

Se - vous - play

The best things about life are free
The pussywillow up your tree
To the one who climbs
They'll always be the girl... yeah

Some girls are all about it
Some girls they love to let it fly
Some girls no doubt about it
Some girls are born to make you cry

Some girls can't live without it
Some girls got twenty reasons why

Over and over and over and over and over...

Buildings they rise to the skies

Hell drive his sports car until its too late
But well have a hot time on the town tonigh
Cause love is my bet and its the best yet

One Summer 1962

Christina sat next to you
on the school playing fields
the summer day was hot

and she sat there
cross-legged
her school skirt

touching on her knees
and you looked beyond her
wondering if the girl

who had kissed you
at Christmas
while carol singing

was looking over at you
from a group of girls
across the way

I wish I had
my bathing costume on
Christina said

so do I
you said looking back
at her taking in

her white knees
catching the summer sun
she giggled and looked away

did Cedric tell you about me
and what I told him?
she asked

her profile
like some Renoir girl
yes

you said
remembering Cedric's words
and his blushing face

he seemed put out
you added
you don't want to worry

about Cedric
she said
he hates me getting into boys

as she said this
you looked over
at the girl who kissed you

and she was staring
over at you and Christina
and seemed annoyed

and as you gazed at her
you still felt that kiss
on your lips

and that embrace
in the moonlight
and Christina touched

your knee
and said
if you want privacy

we can always go up
into the woods by the fence
and you said

did you hear about Brilton
the teacher of English?
No

she said
what?
he's been sacked

why? she asked
running her hand
along your thigh

for taking boys home
in the lunch period
you said

oh
she said
removing her hand

what for?
You looked
at her knees

in the sunlight
how the light
seemed to warm them

no idea
you said
and you looked away

with a picture
of her knees
carried in your head.
