While we are living in the present, we must celebrate life every day, knowing that we are becoming history with every work, every action, every deed.

For Vasant Kothari

Every funeral, cremation, and its rites
may have its grief; yet too,
its celebration of a life well lived;
and call out, too, self-dedication’s vow:

as the crowd of living witness
quietly leave and share their murmured words,
this vow ever calls to me: to celebrate the living:
celebrate them just as if it were
their – our - last day on earth:

celebrate and praise unstintingly;
encourage and enthuse and aid;
form their virtues in the mind and
speak them loud – as if
these whom we praise, were unaware
of their own virtues..

celebrate the living, and their life
shall celebrate the praisers in its life..

Vasant, your sweet, contained humility
hid from strangers, showed your friends,
what you were; and, who we are;

I hope your spirit (which, I’d like to think,
inspired me to the sounds beyond these words)
approves, accepts – in the eternal present tense –
these thoughts of you.

Life Is A Celebration

I was lost on a winding road
I thought that life had nothing left to give
Then you came and showed me that just to live
Was the greatest gift of all
And you showed me
Life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
How could I have been so blind?
Just to think that we were living to die
Then you came along and I was no longer alone
And you lead me to the light
And you showed me
Life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
And you showed me life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate, celebrate life

You can learn as much about the history from reading about the present as you can vice versa, that is learning about the present through history, which is what I do for a living.

Earth Day Every Day

This song appears on two albums, and was first released on the earth songs album. it is also on the albums the very best of john denver (single cd) and the john denver collection - sunshine on m
Ulder.
Celebrate morning
The cry of a loon on a lake in the night
The dreams that are born in the dawn's early light
Celebrate morning
Celebrate living
The laughter that sings in the heart of a child
The freedom that flies at the call of the wild
Celebrate living
Celebrate evening
The stars that appear in the loss of the sun
Whispering winds, we are one, we are one...
Celebrate earth day, every day
Celebrate earth day, every day
Celebrate land and sea
Celebrate you and me

Black History Month

In January...
There they are making history.
In February...
There they are making history.
In March...
There they are making history.
In April...
There they are making history.
In May...
There they are making history.
In June...
There they are making history.
In July...
There they are making history.
In August...
There they are making history.
In September...
There they are making history.
In October...
There they are making history.
In November...
There they are making history.
In December...
There they are making history.

But...
It's nice to know
The shortest month of the year
Was chosen to celebrate
The great deeds of African-Americans!
However...
It is those LEAP YEARS,
That really have the blacks jumping for joy!

History

Yesterday is History.
History brings us to this present moment
but it doesn't shape who we are at this present moment.
We can't let our History control us
and who we wish to be.
Our future is our choice,
Not History's.

Lonely Action

Action, Action, Lonely Action,
Sociable action, Social Action
And more Action.
That is the solution
To the terrible mess
And of loneliness.

Sociable Action
To solve the mess
Of loneliness
Taken once a year
Is not going to cut it
Once a month may work
Once a week will work
Once a day
Is the way
To do it!

Celebrate

Refrain
Celebrate
Every night and day
Celebrate
Never runaway
Celebrate
Wake up its not a dream
Its never too late
This life is for free
When youve got the key
To reality
Lets celebrate
All the dreams come true
Just for me and you
Lets celebrate
C-Teil:
Be yourself and youll see
The best things in your life are free
Dont give up, stay alive
Honesty can make you survive
Rap 1:
Can you see all these people
Walking through the streets of life
Without a smile in their faces
how can they survive
Its a dangerous world they are living in
Between imaginations and expectations on their way
To the point of no return
They only live once and have to learn, your
Life is too brief to waste time for hate
Its never too late to celebrate
Rap 2:
Reality, is what theyre looking for
Love is what they all adore
Feeling like a bird in a cage
covered by a curtain flying into a rage reaching
The point of no return
Let it burn, let it burn
They only live once and they have to learn, your
Life is too brief to waste time for hate
Its never too late to celebrate

The History of Now

The recording of culture is history;
but our culture is more than that.
It's the world of human action,
and the myths we make of the fact.

The recording of history is culture,
but our history is more than that.
It informs a hidden agenda.
Unconscious of motive we act.

It's the history of now, the history of now.
It's only the present that exists as endowed.
It's the history of now. The moment - KAPOW!
That knocks you right over and muddies your brow.

Through the prism of language, we know what we know.
We carry our baggage and stories of woe.
Victor and vanquished pride cannot budge,
the dead weight of hatred and ancestral grudge.

We fight our good fights with our hand on our heart;
the music is swelling as loved ones depart.
As sheep to the slaughter, the script cannot chart,
a course more ignoble: the propagandist's art.

The recording of history is culture,
but our culture is more than that.
More than the great individuals,
the scholars so love in their tracts.

The recording of culture is history;
but our history is more than that.
Not simple dates or statistics,
the full horror and gore still attracts.

It's the history of now, the history of now.
A strange contradiction that makes sense somehow.
It's the history of now, a mystery and shroud.
The past and the future: best fiction allowed.

The praisers

You might not spot them in a crowd –
but for that certain stillness of the self-contained:

in conversation, not until some detail
of an action, person, or a deed
sparks their mind; then from their heart -
not, pours – but rather, in a fine, fine stream
of exquisite precision, flows - their praise:

as if their whole self gives itself to you
in some new form of thought, in which
there is no longer, they and you –
you are united in exalted praise;

and their eye shines – inviting you to join
a world above: perhaps they sum the virtue
of a person, action, deed; and yet,
while they are speaking, praise is seated there
above the virtues; they are prophets, seers,
visionaries of that which in our praise, we are..

and perhaps, you try to join them in your speech –
how awkwardly praise sits upon your tongue!
you, who prided so yourself, a balanced judge
of all your fellow humans…find yourself
now at some sad and puny tongue-tied loss..

so, practise, in ourselves, a year or two –
(there’s silent praise – the eye gives that away…)
and praise the praiseful in their mighty work:
another world awaits: where we become
the prophets of ourselves in timeless life.

A Hectic Day

Work is inevitable
Work is accumulative
Work is strenuous
Work is living

A good work represents a good life
A well lived life is a balance
A balance between work & play
Is a life worth living!

Thus it begins my enthusiasm
For compilation of workloads
To be effective & efficient
To complete it I shall stop

Writing this poem!

Deeds And Relationships

Deeds that you perform have life
like living beings. Every action
is virtually the deed’s midwife
whose job is to prevent retraction
of something that may either lead
to benefit or punishment,
the punishment part of the deed,
like an investment, spent
long after it has been performed.

We reap from deeds what we have sown
not as a measure made for measure,
but because the deed has grown,
and finally provides displeasure
if the deed was wrong, and when
correct and virtuous can provide
a benefit like interest men
deserve––and God does not deride.

Relationships are forms of deeds––
we reap what’s sown in them, the joy
or pain that they provide not seeds
but capital that we enjoy.
For what is wrong in them we must
not judge, but must remember they
are built with tendencies to bust,
like people whom God built from clay.

Inspired by Klaus Koch’s explanation of retribution (“Is there a Doctrine of Retribution on the Old Testament? ” in James L. Crenshaw, ed. Theodicy in the Old Testament (Philadelphia: Fortress Press,1983) ,57–87, p.59, cited in Vince Endris, “Yahweh versus Baal: A Narrative-Critical Reading of the Gideon-Abimelech Narrative, ” JSOT 33(2008) : 173–95, p.187. Endris writes:

While modern views tend to believe that actions are judged (by Yahweh) either good or bad according to a previously established norm, in the Israelite understanding there was no ‘norm’ and actions were not judged. Rather, there was a built-in and inherent connection between an action and its consequences’. Yahweh’s role, then, is not as a judge who ‘deals out reward and punishment on the basis of an established norm, but rather somewhat like a “mid-wife who assists at birth” by facilitating the completion of something which previous human action had already set into action’.

Perfect Peace

I ponder deeply in my mind
For thoughts of peace and how to find
It only comes from deep within
You cannot fake it or pretend
Real peace comes when your mind is at rest
Knowing through life you've given your best
Believing in a greater power than we
Holding no grudges, being totally free
Having no ill will against neighbor or kin
Knowing the peace maker is living within
Giving of self to help others in need
Looking for nothing in return for a deed
Being true to one's self no matter the price
It's better to give until it becomes sacrifice
If you want to feel that total release
Then try all of this and you know perfect peace

Celebrate Me Home

Home for the holidays,
I believe Ive missed each and every face,
Come on and play my music,
Lets turn on the love light in the place
Its time I found myself,
Totally surrounded in your circles
Whoa, my friends
Please, celebrate me home,
Give me a number,
Please, celebrate me home
Play me one more song,
That Ill always remember,
And I can recall,
Whenever I find myself too all alone,
I can sing me home.
Uneasy highway,
Traveling where the westerly winds can fly,
Somebody tried to tell me,
But the men forgot to tell me why,
I gotta count on being gone,
Come on woman, come on daddy,
Be what you want from me,
Im this strong, Ill be weak
Please, celebrate me home,
Give me a number,
Please, celebrate me home
Play me one more song,
That Ill always remember,
I can recall,
Whenever I find myself too all alone,
I can make believe Ive never gone,
I never know where I belong,
Sing me home.
Please, celebrate me home,
Give me a number,
Please, celebrate me home
Play me one more song,
Celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate me home
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Well Im finally here,
But Im bound to roam,
Come on celebrate me home
Well Im finally here,
But Im bound to roam,
Come on celebrate me home
Well Im finally here,
But Im bound to roam,
Come on celebrate me home
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
(fade)

The History Teacher

Woman!

Where exactly
Did you put me
In the women's history?

Am I History?
Or a part of it?

And for how long you are lacking me in;
Between
Your History,
Women's History, and
Your archives?

Does time make sense to you
As a History teacher or
As a History professor?

Cause', History, buying time, and rejuvenation
Are for emperors.

Are you making me
An emperor?

Or a Faeroe?
If so,
How precise your are?

And if you can't feel my present presence
how possibility could you feel me through your archives?

Celebrate

Act of love
Is a luxury
The suit he wears
Belongs to me
The road is long
Seven thousand miles
Soldier talk
And uniform
We can live
I can live
Celebrate
Celebrate
We can live
I can live
Celebrate
Celebrate
She rag doll
Keeps him warm
This negative
Shows no form
He salutes the crowd
Go west young man
Run run run
The hollow man
We can live
I can live
Celebrate
Celebrate
We can live
I can live
Celebrate
Celebrate
To a distant land
Sand and sand
Touch to touch
A marble man
The house is glass
Furnitures chrome
Soldier talk
And uniform
We can live
I can live
Celebrate
Celebrate
We can live
I can live
Celebrate
Celebrate

Called Ruin

The waste of work is called ruin,
Having a blessed action is solid;
No mound of soil is upturned
Without the guidance of wastage,
For wastage is the key to action
And action especially happens.
The moonlight escapes the Earth,
Once lit, and never enters the heart
We love and mention, always we dine
As the suns and stars revolve with each other.
The work of this expanse accepted
Is a work so wasted, for we dine and expel
The ruin called wastage of work.
