Quite casually I wander into my plot, poke around with my characters for a while, then amble off, leaving no moral proved and no reader improved.

I always start with characters rather than with a plot, which many critics would say is very obvious from the lack of plot in my films - although I think they do have plots - but the plot is not of primary importance to me, the characters are.

Walk Casually Into The Sun
As I walk along my chosen path I know there is work to be done.
As I walk casually into the sun
As I stare at the marquis that bares my name I wonder how long will my show run
As I walk casually into the sun
As I ponder each step and charted course to my next action I ponder, have I yet begun?
As I walk casually into the sun
As the road gets rocky does this mean a rocky road or just loose pebbles undone
As I walk casually into the sun
As I look down at my feet and then at the sky, I think where am I what have I become
As I walk casually into the sun
As a boy I was a wimpy kid knowing it did not feel right, myself, I would not shun
As I walk casually into the sun
As greatness goes, it is not always great, . Greatness always is, I am the one
As I walk casually into the sun
As a man the plan was always this, to be great you must do what you love
As I walk casually into the sun
As I am in the now I know this, be great for those you love only then will you rise above.
As I walk casually into the sun

My books are primarily plot driven but the best plot in the world is useless if you don't populate them with characters that readers can care about.

Essentially and most simply put, plot is what the characters do to deal with the situation they are in. It is a logical sequence of events that grow from an initial incident that alters the status quo of the characters.

The relationship between reader and characters is very difficult. It is even more peculiar than the relationship between the writer and his characters.

All People Have A Breaking Point
all people have a breaking point
of mind or body fractured stressed
although some do know it not
bodies can break in random accidents
bodies can break in undue pressures
bodies can break in life misfortunes
poking other people with sticks poke poke
standing on deceit power base pedestals
believing themselves immune to fortune fall
did their mothers never teach manners
not to poke especially poke in the eye
sad it is to watch ego poke poke patterns

Nada Mas (only the poem)
Reader, your voice is the poem
you are the words; and
nothing more.
Reader, there is no poetry
unless you speak it.
Reader, there is no sound
you must find what it has to say.
Reader, seek the thought
rising from your soul.
Reader, look all about you, up and down
no one else has come this way.
Reader, there is no other poem
only you among the words of the word; and
nothing more.

Slow Poke
(myles goodwyn)
Published by slalom publishing co. - bmi
I got somethin to keep you satisfied
So wont you excuse me, while I slip inside
I aint gonna rush things, you know I aint no speed freak
And I like to take my time whenever I eat
Cause Im just a slow poke, uh-huh, with long strokes
I said Im just a slow poke, baby
And I like to take my time, poke on
Id like to see you with the lights turned down
And Id like to see you when you go down
Im gonna be there, right by your side
Im just gonna hang on, and let you take me for a ride
So how bout a slow poke, uh-huh, with long strokes
I said how bout a slow poke, baby
I like to take my time, alright
Id like to poke you right here on the floor
I aint gonna stop none, till I hear you call for more
Then Im gonna tease you till youre ready to scream
Then Im gonna please you, its gonna seem like a dream
So how bout a slow poke, uh-huh, with long strokes
I said how bout a slow poke, baby
I like to take my time, poke on

My specialty is minding my own business.
I can't help it, it's a choice.
For example, I'm not really writing this.
You, mind-reader, read it, nevertheless.
I am not harmless. No, I've a role to play, I'm
A link in Nature's game.
Somebody eats me (let them try)
I eat somebody else-that's the deal.
I accept my place in the food chain
And, unlike you, prize nearly total amnesia.
I just don't get why people want to remember things-
Especially the bad stuff-let it, already, go-
Memory the chiefest factor of what it means to be you-
or probably so.
Otherwise you're more or less interchangeable, aren't you?
Yes, more or less so.
Anyway, it's better not to think.
My mind's a blank.
I'm a big fan of instinct.
So I poke my nose here, I poke my nose there,
amidst hula-grass,
Bringing...

The Loveable Characters
I long for the streets but the Lord knoweth best,
For there I am never a saint;
There are lovable characters out in the West,
With humour heroic and quaint;
And, be it Up Country, or be it Out Back,
When I shall have gone to my Home,
I trust to be buried 'twixt River and Track
Where my lovable characters roam.
There are lovable characters drag through the scrub,
Where the Optimist ever prevails;
There are lovable characters hang round the pub,
There are lovable jokers at sales
Where the auctioneer's one of the lovable wags
(Maybe from his "order" estranged),
And the beer is on tap, and the pigs in the bags
Of the purchasing cockies are changed.
There were lovable characters out in the West,
Of fifty hot summers, or more,
Who could not be proved, when it came to the test,
Too old to be sent to the war;
They were all forty-five and were orphans, they said,
With no one to keep them, or keep;
And mostly in France, with the world's bravest dead,
Those lovable characters sleep.
I long for the streets, but the Lord knoweth best,
For there I am never a saint;
There are lovable characters out in the West,
With humour heroic and quaint;
And, be it Up Country, or be it Out Back,
When I shall have gone to my Home,
I trust to be buried 'twixt River and Track
Where my lovable characters roam.

Melodies Of Sunset
I feel the gentle breeze
caress my cheeks
as we walk along the sand
near the closing of the day.
The sun sets the sky ablaze
with its crimson hues
while the hiss of incoming waves
plays melodies
as we amble along.
We stop for a few moments
to kiss and hug,
then amble on our way
with the melodies of sunset
playing in our ears.

Gods Of Deliverance
The sun goes down in the western sky
The shadows are gonna return
I wander alone through the back of my mind
The twilight of moon starts to run
How can I see beyond existence?
I'm leaving in to the unknown
I wander around as I hear someone scream
A voice that is never my own
Oh

That is what I define as a novel: something that has a beginning, a middle and an end, with characters and a plot that sustain interest from the first sentence to the last. But that is not what I do at all.

Dip It Low [Video Version]
Says he wants you
He says he needs you
It's real talk, then why not make him wait for you
If he really wants you
If he really needs you
Really got to have you
Take your time and feel him out
When he's a good boy
I mean a really really good boy
Why not let him lay with you
That's when you give it to him good
[Chorus:]
Dip it low
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo"
Dip it low
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo"
You getting bold
He growin' cold
It's just the symptoms of young love
Growin' old
You think it's time
And you're thinking of leaving
But give it time
It's late at night
He's coming home
Meet him at the door with nothin' on
Take him by the hand
Let him know what's on
If you understand me
Yall come on
All my ladies wind it up
If you know just how to move (mooove)
All my fellas jump behind
And show her what you want to do (show her what you got daddy)
All my ladies wind it up
If you know just how to move
All my fellas jump behind
And show her what you want to do (ouuuh..wouh ouh)
Dip it low
Pick it up slow (ohhh)
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo" (ima show you how to make him)
Dip it low (ouhhh)
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo"
We can move if you wanna
We can move if you wanna
We can mooove if you wanna
We can mooooooove...
Dip it low
Pick it up slow (slowww)
Roll it all around (ohhhh)
Poke it out like your back broke
Pop pop pop that thing (yeah)
Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo"
Dip it low
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke (come on come on come on)
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo" (ooooh)
Dip it low
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo"
Dip it low
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke

Ima show you how to make your man say "Ooo

I plot the first 5 or 6 chapters quite minutely, and also the end. So I know where I am going but not how I'm going to get there, which gives characters the chance to develop organically, as happens in real life as you get to know a person.

Slow Poke Music
(coverdale/vandenberg)
Yknow the joint was jumping
Like a dancing fool,
I saw you standing in the corner
Looking oh, so cool
I had a word with the dj
To make the music hot,
Im gonna get you on the dance floor
If you are ready or not
Slow poke music,
Ill get you down to the bone
Slow poke music,
Ill never leave you alone, Ill never leave you
When you move it to the left,
Or you shake it to the right,
No matter what you do, babe,
Its like dynamite
With your sweet french perfume
An that criminal walk,
You know youd melt my ice cream
With your body talk
Slow poke music,
Ill get you down to the bone
Slow poke music,
Ill never leave you alone, Ill never leave you
Im gonna shake you down,
Girl, Im wont do you no harm
Well, you move so fine,
Like stepping on glass,
An when you give me that smile,
I see lightning flash
East an west, north an south,
Oh babe, youre so hot
Im gonna melt in your mouth
Slow poke music,
Ill get you down to the bone
Slow poke music,
Get into it, babe,
Slow poke music,
Ill nail it down to the bone
Slow poke music,
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Girl, Ill never leave you alone...

Reader or writer
If you are a reader or a writer.
You should be a positive thinker.
You are more like a scientist observer.
Try to be an exact experimenter.
Nothing is too crazy to put on paper.
If you are a reader or a writer.
The reader is a wonderful dreamer.
The writer is a sincere worker.
Its lovely that both can be each other.
If you are a reader or a writer.
You should never say never.
So don't leave behind a book marker.
Make sure you have a word sharpener.
