I've got to restructure all my personal life now in order to accommodate public service, which is fine.

In order to accommodate to change and to the contrast of phenomena, the intellect does not require any shocks and inner upheavals; it is only through such upheavals that the more conservative mind could accommodate to the metropolitan rhythm of events.

I think that public service is tough on a family - no ifs, ands, buts about it. I have my own personal wishes, but they're not always front and center.

I made my mistakes, but in all my years of public life, I have never profited from public service. I've earned every cent. And in all of my years in public life I have never obstructed justice. And I think, too, that I can say that in my years of public life that I welcome this kind of examination because people have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook. I've earned everything I've got.

My Simple Award
I was informed just lately
That I am among those to be called
Who will be rewarded a service pin?
For having served for twenty five years
An accolade for doing public service
Is quite an honor for being recognized
But like five years ago when I did not
Come up to the stage to receive such
For me it is not important
To receive with any award
For what I do is simply my job
To perform what I was trained for
It makes me sad to learn now
After twenty five years of working
I will be called in front of the public
To accept the fact that soon I have to go
Retirement is a bonus phase in life
Forced to give up work for becoming old
Aging marks that sooner one's life will end
My youth used up for service is my sole bliss

One of the best lessons I learned early is that not everything in life is about you. It is about service. If you want trips and excessive gifts, then don't get into public service.

Personal
Its not personal
You didnt let me down at all
No, its not personal
Its how the world goes round, is all
Ive got some loving but it aint for sale
- give it free to you, my friend
Somewhere further down the trail
Il be pulling out again
Its not personal
Dont let it underneath your skin
No, its not personal
Im only breathing out and in
Im just moving on
Because the groove has gone
Im just stealing down the line
And its fine
Woke up this morning, I was all alone
Instead of her I found a note
I guess my bluebird just came home
For these are all the words she wrote...
Its not personal
You didnt let me down at all
No, its not personal
Its how the world goes round is all
Its how the world goes round

I believe if a private citizen is able to affect public opinion in a constructive way he doesn't have to be an elected public servant to perform a public service.

The challenge as we saw in the Nigerian project was to restructure the economy decisively in the direction of a modern free market as an appropriate environment for cultivation of freedom and democracy and the natural emergence of a new social order.

Service
Service is rendering assistance,
To persons nigh and in a distance.
Service should be in consistence,
And ever in abiding persistence
For peoples vital subsistence,
And for our peaceful co-existence.
Service constitutes us to be dynamic,
It cleanses the mind, and we are not sick.
Service entails ego annihilation,
And our materialism is in destruction.
Service makes us to give others a benefit,
It brings society to a frame-work knit.
Service allows us to do to others a favour,
Which adds to our life full of flavour.
.
Service endows us with a virtuous life,
And it empowers us to live a larger life.
Service chisels us to beautifully refine,
And it tunes us to be in a haven divine.

You see the images that the public is demanding. Why more reality-based TV? You'd think that after the first Survivor it would have gone away, but it hasn't. The public demands it because they get all caught up in the personal stories, and want to see more and more.

Ch 01 Manner of Kings Story 36
There were two brothers: one of them in the service of the sultan and the other gaining his livelihood by the effort of his arm. The wealthy man once asked his destitute brother why he did not serve the sultan in order to be delivered from the hardship of labouring. He replied: "Why labourest thou not to be delivered from the baseness of service because philosophers have said that it is better to eat barley bread and to sit than to gird oneself with a golden belt and to stand in service?"
To leaven mortar of quicklime with the hand
Is better than to hold them on the breast before the amir.
My precious life was spent in considering
What I am to eat in summer and wear in winter.
O ignoble belly, be satisfied with one bread
Rather than to bend the back in service.
In the event of fire in any of the public buildings troops would be of vast service in the protection of public property, and should insurrection break out the protection of life and property would be more safe guarded by our company of regulars, than by the whole City.

Can Somebody do Something?
can somebody do something?
like developing a sanctuary
to accommodate the mind
and all its whims and fancies?
can somebody do something?
like carving a vaccuum where
life can hide without the law of
physics caving in on him
that would be a great service
to this overloaded entity
destined to die for the former's
quest for invincibility, immortality.
can somebody do something?
like developing a channel
for the mind to leap from one
to the other, to show life can be
lived in any form, without the
trouble of a physical presence
where death has to be employed
to free its limitless possibilities for life
