You should never meet your heroes. Paul Newman... I was so excited about meeting him, but he turned up in shell suit bottoms, slippers, and a jumper. He was just so worn out and old, he wanted to go home.

We're both in the gutter, that's no surprise
What does it matter, when i look in your eyes?

We're lying in the gutter, but we're looking at the stars
I get excited, you get excited too (excited) (i get excited)

I hear the sound of the subway, the sigh of the heat
The click of the visitors' heels on the street

The clatter of the dustbin and the beat of my heart

Paul Newman Leaves For God
After a lifetime of monumental charity, having given away over 100 million
of the proceeds from his and his wife Jo Anne Woodward's food business, having
been a peace activist all his life, a film actor who entertained billions,
a vegetarian for reasons of nonviolence, Paul Newman has slipped
from the glove of his body. He loved all. He
was loved by all.
As the world contemplates Wall St greed and Wall St pawns
in the 2 major political parties, it is inspiring to remember a soul
who sought not how to take but how to give.
Now he is unencumbered by time or space, or by the limits of the body,
in his mission of love.
************
(One of Paul Newman's many recipients was the Nature
Conservancy to which he contributed both time and money.
Nature Conservancy was taken over by Henry Paulson,
who turned the wilderness shrines Newman loved into
cattle concentration camps.)
(Like Jonathan Winters and unelected Republican president
Rutherford B Hayes, Paul Newman was a graduate of Kenyon
College in Gambier, Ohio, which in 2004 was (not Hawaii)
the last place in the US to vote, because of the Republican
Party's plan to underman (underperson) and undermachine
the polls in the majority Democrat state)
(The Verdict is the writer's favorite of the Newman movies she's seen.)

I've always wanted to work with Paul Newman. I had a couple opportunities in the past, and I didn't take advantage of it, so it was really fun to be working with him.
Newman's Own...
'Fast Eddie', 'Cool Hand Luke'
Icon Paul Newman could do it all
Good looks, talent were no fluke
Did big things while staying small

Pink Slippers
She always wore pink slippers
They were her signature footwear
When one pair wore out completely
She quietly produced another
The neighbours thought it strange
But no one dared comment on them
If pink slippers were what she wanted
Then who were they to question her
Then one day realisation dawned
She had made it her goal in life
To make women aware of their rights
Pink slippers were the right reminder
When she died the female population
Of the town was seen sporting them
They believed that it was the only way
To pay tribute to her who had just died
She had used a simple but colourful way
To teach them that if they wanted success
They needed to display sisterly togetherness
And sporting pink slippers was just one method

(Do You Get) Excited
When the day gets dark
Over a thousand streets
And you feel your heart
Is a living beat
When you're all alone
And you close your eyes
Naked to the bone
The dream comes alive
Do you get excited
When I touch you in the night?
My oh my...
Do you get excited
When I meet you every night?
You won't let the night pass you by
When your body's hot
The window's open wide
This moment's all you got
In this race of life
When you feel the fire
Is getting close to you
Hey baby, you know
I'm lonely too
Do you get excited
When I touch you in the night?
My oh my...
Do you get excited
When I meet you every night?
You won't let the night pass you by
Do you get excited
When I touch you in the night?
My oh my...
Do you get excited
When I meet you every night?
You won't let the night pass you by
I wanna know
I gotta know

Bunny Slippers (TM) (For Will)
Bunny slippers,
Bunny slippers,
Pitter patter feet,
Running down the hallway,
Seeing who they meet.
Bunny slippers,
Bunny slippers,
Running all night long,
Curious feet,
Can really do no wrong.

Here In Higglytown
(Theme to Higglytown Heroes)
Here in Higglytown
Things all jump around
Just like the Higglytown heroes
(Our heroes)
They all work together
Making fun together
Come see the Higglytown heroes
Eubie, Wayne, Twinkle, Kip and Fran
All hop and pop around
Soon they'll learn about real heroes
Who and why and how
Now
Here in Higglytown
We'll all jump around
And meet the Higglytown heroes
(Our heroes)
We'll all work together
Having fun together
With all the Higglytown heroes
Let's all play together
Save the day together
Come join the Higglytown heroes

Sartorial
Sartorial
Tried on a striped
Blue suit
It made me look like
A fat zebra
Asked the shop girl
If they had a mirror
One that could transform me
Into my conceited
Self image
She said sorry, but no
Bought a bigger suit
Pearly black hides the fat
Off the rack,
Just like that
White turtle neck jumper
A Mercedes icon
Around my neck
God! I look a stylish man.

I Get So Excited
(ian hunter)
I hear a thousand drums a million miles away
I feel the wembley rock I get a buzz off a big parade
I get the music
Everywhere
Get off on the music
If this is the end there I dont care
I get so excited
So excited
Call me a fan thats just what I am
I said I i I i I get
So excited
So excited
My nerves are alive
I feel like a knife
I said I get so excited
I hear a choir singing way up above the sea
I feel the sound a-changing as the night rocks a spell on me
I get the music
Everywhere
Get off on the music
If this is the end there I dont care I get
So excited
So excited
Ill throw you a line come far behind
I said I i I i I get
So excited
So excited
Its happening so fast
And the drummers a blast
I said I get so excited
By your mind oh yeah oh yeah
Excited by your warmth oh yeah oh yeah
Excited by your body oh yeah oh yeah
Excited by your...
Ha ha ha ha
Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah right! I get
So excited
So excited
Band on the run just for the fun
I said I i I i I get
So excited
So excited
It lasts and it lasts
Get up off your past
I said I i I i I i I get
So excited
So excited
Call me a fan thats just what I am
I said I i I i I i I get
So excited
So excited
My nerves are alive
I feel like a knife

Your Hero
The heroes of the masses they live for their renown
And the masses create their heroes and then drag their heroes down
And the masses are unpredictable they change from day to day
And some of their heroes like the Autumn flowers are quick to fade away.
Yet there are millions of unsung heroes and they live on every street
And every day a hero I feel privileged to meet
True heroes male and female yet by the masses unsung
The World is full of heroes of heroes old and young.
Some heroes of the masses are arrogant and proud
And their egos over-swollen from the adulation of the crowd
But give me the unsung heroes who go their own quiet way
Who out of the kindness of their hearts perform one good deed every day.
Many heroes of the masses are not heroes to me
Though every day I walk the street some true hero I do see
Your hero is chauffeur driven and drinks the most expensive wine
And you can have your hero but your hero isn't mine.

Heroes 2
When we were children
we all knew what we wanted to be.
We wanted to follow
in the footstep of our favourite hero.
Our heroes came from noble stock
and stood above the rest.
We wanted to grow up like them
walking tall through the world.
At a certain age reality kicks in
and we become who we are.
It is a lot different than
those heroes we used to adore.
We learn that heroes
are not such a special breed.
We pass hundreds of them everyday
and we fail to recognise them.
They have no super powers
or logos on their chest.
They dress like you and me
in tee-shirt and jeans
and when the chips are down.
A stranger will save the day
and then when everything has died down
the stranger will be on their way.

Then I Kissed Her
Well I walked up to her and I asked her if she wanted to dance
She looked awful nice and so I hoped she might take a chance
When we danced I held her tight
Then I walked her home that night
And all the stars were shining bright
And then I kissed her
Each time I saw her I couldnt wait to see her again
I wanted to let her know that I was more than a friend
I didnt know just what to do
And so I whispered I love you
And she said that she loved me too
And then I kissed her
I kissed her in a way that Id never kissed a girl before
I kissed her in a way that I hope she liked for evermore
I knew that she was mine so I gave her all the love that I had
Then one day shell take me home to meet her mom and her dad
Then I asked her to be my bride
And always be right by my side
I felt so happy that I almost cried
And then I kissed her
And then I kissed her
And then I kissed her

Reunion
I am going to a reunion next year (2009) .
To say that I am excited is an understatement
I am thrilled beyond belief.
There is only one draw back though,
will the people that I am meeting
like me or loath me
by the time my visits through.
It is something that will play on mind
until we eventually meet.
