I don't think Michael had to retire for us to get the spotlight, because when you win, it commands attention.

A Lure For The Spotlight
A lure for the spotlight
lies in everyone somewhere.
At some point in our lives,
everyone wants the centre stage
and have the spotlight on them.
Some just dream about it
to pass the time away,
other have a natural gift
and in the spotlight stay.
When the spotlight shines on you
scrutinizing everything you do,
you want it to go away.
You want your life
to go back to the way it was.
However, when the spotlight
has been on you
it will never leave you alone.
It will be with you
for the rest of your days.

Spotlight
Spotlight
In the spotlight life is so peachy yeah, yeah, yeah
Wouldnt you like to retire with a million?
A million beating hearts
Behind brick and cold steel piping
Fighting for the top
Fighting for the room to breathe
Bench parks sleepers lie
Cold blanket bed less babies
Here this must stop
I cannot stay
Damn you, big city, black city
Rising up around me, steal my soul away
Big city, black city
Rise and take me over, steal my soul away
But all out in this world
The night it crawls it falls much harder than I recall
Out in this world
A siren calls from every corner
In the spotlight life is so peachy, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
All of us in the spotlight for a reason, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Caught for stealing somebodys riches, no, no, no, no
Wouldnt you like to retire with a million bucks?
Yeah
Came here from a small town
I see my dreams here in the big city
Sour disappointment
I cannot stay
Damn you, big city, black city
Rising up around me, steal my soul away
Big city, black city
Rise and take me over, steal my soul away
But all out in this world
The night it crawls it falls much harder than I recall
Out in this world
A siren calls from every corner
In the spotlight life is so peachy, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
All of us in the spotlight for a reason, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Caught for stealing somebodys riches, no, no, no, no
Wouldnt you like to retire with a million bucks?
Yeah
Yeah....
Yeah....
Yeah....
Yeah....

Spotlight Kid
You dont know whats happening, you want to go home
But theres nowhere to hide
You walk out on stage, your first time alone
The crowds going wild
And you feel so alive
You could stand up and take this all night
They love you but youre in love with the spotlight
Youre the spotlight kid
Jokers and women they hang round your door
Theyre all part of the scene
Just like a junkie youve got to have more
Its a pleasure machine
And you fly every night
But the dressing room mirror dont lie
They love you but youre in love with the spotlight
Youre the spotlight kid
Your audience died, faded away
Leaving you on the stage
Its been so many years since that first matinee
It seems like an age
Encore one more time
For the ghosts of the past in your mind
They love you but youre in love with the spotlight
Youre the spotlight kid
Youre living in a dream
Youre the spotlight kid
Youre in love with the spotlight

Consistent Bitter Lipping
Out to steal another's thunder,
Those seeking the spotlight complain...
That one who solicits an attention,
Isn't deserving of it.
And...
Such attention should be given to them to claim.
Obsessed with their possessed jealousies,
Nothing from those envious gets done...
But a consistent bitter lipping!
With an ignorance to remove,
Those of influence from their environment.
And when that succeeds they plead for unity.

A Risk Taken Unforgotten For The Archives
To split or not split wrists...
Seems to be such a self indulging understaking.
However...
It is the taking of risks,
And witnessing others stirred up in fits...
That eliminates the wish to end one's existence.
To privately decide to say goodbye to life...
Is so anti-climatic.
If one is seeking drama...
There is nothing like taking centerstage,
With spotlight.
And giving those in attendance,
The best mooning you can do!
With that done...
Will indeed become,
A risk taken unforgotten for the archives.
And one,
If the spotlight hits right...
Will not offend,
But achieve the attention sought!
And maybe a round of applause...
If what is seen has been deemed attractive.

No retiring
When you retire from a thing,
You are going to get something
To retire to, from which
You have to retire on a later date.

Sweet Soul Music
Do you like good music ?
Sweet soul music ?
How must I strike her
Sometime
Oh yeah
Spotlight out on this ring
Sing and laugh-laugh-laugh
Sing and laugh-laugh-laugh
Tonight
Oh yeah
Spotlight on the big man
Dont he look great ?
He lost a lot of weight
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Spotlight on you now
You sure look fine
Moving down the line
Come on
Yeah yeah
Spotlight on me now
I sure look good
Feeling so fine now
Thats right
Oh yeah
Spotlight on the band now
Sure rocking fine you
Working on that line you
Come on come on
Yeah yeah

I want to be seen in the spotlight and,
You want to be seen in the spotlight as well;
So it is now like a competition to us all! !
But i will let my sweet love lead the way.

Thunder Of Silence
Beckoned
With
Sounds
So loud.
Riveted,
Attention
Couldn't arouse.
Beckon
With silence
On pedestal
Alight
For the thunder in silence
Rivets
Flushes the mind.
Observe
The attention silence commands
A pregnant lady
In trance
Whose silent conversation
With a soul unknown
Unaware of the decibels around which galore.

Standing Or Dancing Under Spotlight
Why aren't you dancing under the spotlight?
Why not dazzle the audience,
With that side of your talents?
'I am sitting here amazed,
How that light can beam centerstage...
And all I want to do is to observe it! '
Why?
'It just occurred to me...
I've never sought spotlight.
And there it is as if teasing.'
Aren't you tempted to bask in it?
'Not at all.
Immediately I would get bored with it.'
Why?
'People would expect me to want to be,
Under it all the time.
Waiting for me to entertain them somehow.
And nothing bores me more than routine.
I am more interested to know...
How someone who controls that spotlight,
Maintains such patience...
Following someone with such ego,
Who seems to want that light on them all the time!
I bet that person has an interesting conversation.'
I never thought about that!
'Me either.
Not until I began to smell that peach cobbler.
Can you smell it? '
Yeah!
Yeah I can!
'When was the last time saw anyone,
Standing under spotlight eating?
Anything? '
Performers aren't allowed to eat onstage.
'On stage?
Performers aren't expected to eat, period.
And...
I want a taste of that pie.
Standing or dancing under spotlight,
Is the furthest thing from my mind! '
Let's go see how much of it is left.'

(eric carmen)
Get my guitar
Get the car Im gonna take a little strip out of town
Gotta go do a show
Rock and roll until Im upside down
(I see the light) I see the light
Hear the crowd
Clappin loud, they want the show to start
Oh, and now the stage is dark
Mmm, I can feel my heart
Cant you feel your heart
Spotlight, lighting the stage
I gotta go a little crazy tonight
Spotlight, take me away
Im gonna rock till I feel alright
Here it comes
Feel the drums pound the rhythm of a jungle beat
And all around
Hear the sounds that go up and down the city street
(play that guitar) play that guitar
Play it hard
Open up and let it move your soul
Oh, Im goin out of control
Im goin out of control
Cant you feel it grow
Spotlight, lighting the stage
I gotta go a little crazy tonight
Spotlight, take me away
Im gonna rock till I feel alright
Spotlight, give me the heat
Im gonna burn like a star in the sky
Spotlight, Im gonna explode now
Im ready to go, Im ready to go
Alright
Spotlight, lighting the stage
I gotta go a little crazy tonight
Spotlight, take me away
Im gonna rock till I feel alright
Spotlight, give me the heat
I wanna burn like a star in the sky
Spotlight, I wanna explode now (yeah)
Im ready to go, Im ready to go
Alright, alright
Alright, alright
(give it to me)
Spotlight
Feel the drums pound the rhythm of a jungle beat
Spotlight
Cant you feel it, feel it, feel it, feel it
Spotlight

The difference is that with fame comes a spotlight, one which has recently made it impossible to ignore the fact that more and more of those folks we place on pedestals aren't even pausing to consider an option other than lying.

Dust Collector
Not as close to center.
And away from the spotlight,
On life's stage.
This becomes evident and noticed,
By the one who becomes of age.
And having it one's way...
Is given.
Without swaying any one's opinion.
'Hey why not?
They are not going to be around here,
That long! '
~They who?
I'm aging too and so are you!
IF you're 'lucky'.~
A withering in appearance,
Is experienced as this 'blessing' occurs.
And the one who goes through the process adapts.
Since encouraging words seem to overflow as heard!
Coming from those still in their youth.
'You seem to be lost!
Do you need help crossing the street? '
~I need no help.
I happen to be thinking of a new recipe,
Thank you! ~
Reminding those who are aging...
How brave it is to have that much nerve,
To allow it to show and be done.
Leaving those in their youth,
Stunned by someone over the age of '31'...
Loving the act of aging!
'Mister, I heard you.
And you are well over '31'.
You are old enough to be my grandfather.'
~And I am willing to bet,
Your 'grandfather' never suggested...
Kids like yourself,
Need to learn how to mind your own business.
I could care less about you being in the spotlight.
I can shine just as bright and with more lustre without it.~
'Listen up...dust collector!
I don't have to pay you any attention at all,
Old man!
Wrap that around those aching bones and wrinkles.'

Within The Next Few Months
Insinuations made to misguide with a plotting,
Of a shining done of a focused spotlight...
One would like to get,
But has planted few seeds to deserve.
Is a maneuvering done by someone,
On a mission to usurp attention from another.
Only to discover...
It takes more than emoting with a seizing to hold,
An attention from those...
Who seek more than freelanced embellishments.
If discipline with a consistency is not there to be seen,
Any plotting done with insinuations to leave...
Eventually demeans the doer of this activity.
With an unintended declaration,
Of their own lack of motivation taking center stage.
'I understand what it is you 'might' have done.
However...
Unlike the others you've discussed to throw under the bus,
Can you show me more of what it is you actually do?
IF that doing of it as you have stated...
Is your desire and purpose in 'life' you wish to accomplish.'
~Well...I...uh...
Haven't quite found the time just yet!
But within the next few months...
I am certain my schedule will then allow it.~

To A Departing Favorite
Thou mayst retire, but think of me
When thou art gone afar,
Where'er in life thy travels be,
If tost along the brackish sea,
Or borne upon the car.
Thou mayst retire, I care not where,
Thy name my theme shall be;
With thee in heart I shall be there,
Content thy good or ill to share,
If dead to lodge with thee.
Thou mayst retire beyond the deep,
And leave thy sister train,
To roam the wilds where dangers sleep,
And leave affection sad to weep
In bitterness and pain.
Thou mayst retire, and yet be glad
To leave me thus alone,
Lamenting and bewailing sad;
Farewell, thy sunk deluded lad
May rise when thou art gone.
