Kashmir: a fire within

Kashmir: a fire within

Kashmir of our dreams
remains only a dream
subconscious playing games
it seems, like a jigsaw puzzle
with no real solution in sight
feeling like a wandering kite
some materialise in reality
some not
our Kashmir dream has not
that is a pity.

Politics overriding our feelings
our leaders
wavering & dithering in dealings
none to blame but ourselves
we lost our own bearings.

Fanaticising, not our cup of tea
route to violence abhorred
sacrificial lineage
never inherited such stuff
road to our dream seems always rough
walking through the serpentine roads
talks, discussions, elocutions of no use
ship drifting on slipped moorings
predicament continues.

When we loose
we loose
winner takes it all
but they won’t take our consciousness
supreme and tall.

Let saviour
be our language
guiding force be our cultural heritage
and
the legacy of our ancestral knowledge.

Under the trail of those mutilated bodies and seething anger
keeping alive that spark in ashes
rise we shall like phoenix
for those at helm
to shudder.

Let us build Kashmir of our dreams
wherever we are
whenever we can
we lost one
let us create ten.

Mine Kashmir

Kashmir which is mine
was a picture of paradise
Kashmir which is mine!

Its face
peaceful and serene,
its lips
smiling,
eyes
waiting and ready to welcome tourists.
waiting to hug
Nishat & Shalimar gardens
Feather rowing shikars # on Nagin & Dal lake
mangroves of chinar trees
gardens of almonds, apples and saffaron
howling hawkers
“Hako-hak, yekho-yekh”*
and those moments of pleasure soothing our eyes like
stringing of santoor
floating farms
standing houseboats
rowing of boats on flowing jehlem
snow clad mountains
heavenly greenery
with Charar-e-sharif and Khane-kaa**
we used to admire that Kashmir
that was the crown
India’s crown
it is there yet
but
sometimes it is felt that it is,
now it is not there?
where has it all gone?
mine Kashmir...mine Kashmir!

What has been left of the lifeless valley?
A lifeless body.

Whose brain, heart and kidneys
have undergone transplant
with precision
by an unknown surgeon.
leaving
bloody & scarred face
bruised lips and bashed body
blank eyes
amputed hands.

Kashmir
like a man in coma
wakes up and then sleeps
Or just watches blankly lying on operation table
‘desertion of the truth’
‘ desertion of the essence of kashmiriat’***
Ah! mine Kashmir
some one give me back
mine Kashmir.

O! Judges Of The World

O! Judges of the World,
The Guardians of peace,
Listen!
In the ablaze valley of Kashmir,
To the dripping trickling of blood.

O! Judges of the World,
The Guardians of peace,
The breathers in the spheres of liberty,
Realize you the human rights,
And fix no limit of cruelty,
In Kashmir who inflict atrocity.

Now our houses remain or not,
Our heads, the bodies retain or not,
We will utter the word “Freedom”,
We will snatch the right “Freedom”.

O! Judges of the World,
The Guardians of peace,
Listen!
In the ablaze valley of Kashmir,
To the dripping trickling of blood.

The sons died tossingly in front of mothers,
The sisters’ shawls ragged in front of brothers,
Coated in blood is each leave and plant,
Each grain of Kashmir now does chant,
Listen to the Freedom’s band,
Look to the loyalty of the land.

O! Judges of the World,
The Guardians of peace,
Listen!
In the ablaze valley of Kashmir,
To the dripping trickling of blood.

We are living in 1937, and our universities, I suggest, are not half-way out of the fifteenth century. We have made hardly any changes in our conception of university organization, education, graduation, for a century - for several centuries.

A Family of Friends

I look around me,
And what do I see?
A group of friends,
Who have inspired me,
We're there for each other,
We're there any time,
And I can say...

We're a legacy,
A legacy of friends,
We've come together in unity,
Let's join our hands,
And praise our God,
For we are a family of friends.

We've looked around us,
And found our strength,
He is around us,
O praise his name,
He brought us together,
In this place,
So I say again..

We're a legacy,
A legacy of friends,
We've come together in unity,
Let's join our hands,
And praise our God,
For we are a family of friends.

We thought we knew,
Who we were,
But as the days when it by,
It was unclear,
But we came together,
To talk it out,
And we soon found out...

We're a legacy,
A legacy of friends,
We've come together in unity,
Let's join our hands,
And praise our God,
For we are a family of friends.

A Fairy Grave

Let a little grave be made,
Half in shadow, half in shade,
In a quiet, kindly place,
Friendly as her face.

Let the passing fairy bird
From his airy height be heard;
Ever, ever for that ground
Only gentle sound.

Let the singing winds, which be
Wingèd dream and melody,
Singing softly, by her lie,
Softly singing, die.

Let the bee has sucked the bloom
Homeward journey by her tomb,
And his tithe of sweet be paid
To her sweeter shade.

Let the low clouds, red and gold,
Mourn her on the mountains old;
Beauty, aye her guardian be,
You and Melody.

Spirits of sound and souls of flowers,
All you dearest griefless powers,
You with whom she went away,
Tend her night and day.

Twentieth Century Fox

Well, shes fashionably lean, and shes fashionably late
Shell never wreck a scene, shell never break a date
But shes no drag, just watch the way she walks
Shes a twentieth century fox, shes a twentieth century fox
No tears, no fears, no ruined years, no clocks
Shes a twentieth century fox, oh yeah
Shes the queen of cool, and shes the lady who waits
Sent to manless school, it never hesitates
She wont waste time, on elementary talk
cause shes a twentieth century fox, shes a twentieth century fox
Got the world locked up, inside a plastic box
Shes a twentieth century fox, oh yeah
Twentieth century fox, oh yeah
Twentieth century fox
Shes a twentieth century fox

One layer was certainly 17th century. The 18th century in him is obvious. There was the 19th century, and a large slice, of course, of the 20th century; and another, curious layer which may possibly have been the 21st.

Half The World

Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
Half the world hates
What half the world does every day
Half the world waits
While half gets on with it anyway
Half the world lives
Half the world makes
Half the world gives
While the other half takes
Half the world is
Half the world was
Half the world thinks
While the other half does
Half the world talks
With half a mind on what they say
Half the world walks
With half a mind to run away
Half the world lies
Half the world learns
Half the world flies
As half the world turns
Half the world cries
Half the world laughs
Half the world tries
To be the other half
Half of us divided like a torn-up photograph half of us are
Trying to reach the other half
Half the world cares
While half the world is wasting the day
Half the world shares
While half the world is stealing away

William Shakespeare

Polonius: The best actors in the world, either for tragedy, comedy, history, pastoral, pastoral-comical, historical-pastoral, tragical-historical, tragical-comical-historical-pastoral, scene individable, or poem unlimited. Seneca cannot be too heavy, nor Plautus too light. For the law of writ and the liberty, these are the only men.
