That's an interesting question. I would say that in general Americans know very little about the law. It's one of those things that most of us take for granted.

Most African Americans, especially the men and women from my generation, would accept the nationalist gambit that says only European Americans can be racists, which is an interesting gambit.

Peace Proposal
Said General Clay to General Gore really must we fight this silly war
To kill and die in such a bore I quite agree said General Gore
Said General Gore to General Clay we could go to the beach today
And have some icecream on the way a grand idea said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore we'll build sand castles on the shore
Said General Gore we'll splash and play let's leave right now said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay but what if the sea's closed today
And what if the sand's been blown away the dreadful thought said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay I've always feared the ocean's spray
And we may drown it's true we may it chills my blood said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore my bathin' suit is slightly tore
We better go on with our war I quite agree said General Gore
The General Clay chanrged General Gore as bullets flew and cannons roared
And now at last there is no more of General Clay or General Gore

The Generals
Said General Clay to General Gore,
'Oh must we fight this silly war?
To kill and die is such a bore.'
'I quite agree,' said General Gore.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'We could go to the beach today
And have some ice cream on the way.'
'A grand idea,' said General Clay.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'But what if the sea is closed today?
And what if the sand's been blown away?'
'A dreadful thought,' said General Clay.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'I've always feared the ocean's spray,
And we may drown!' 'It's true, we may.
It chills my blood,' said General Clay.
Said General Clay to General Gore,
'My bathing suit is slightly tore.
We'd better go on with our war.'
'I quite agree,' said General Gore.
Then General Clay charged General Gore
As bullets flew and cannons roared.
And now, alas! there is no more
Of General Clay or General Gore.

In all things it is a good idea to hang a question mark now and then on the things we have taken for granted.

I hope that the mistakes made and suffering imposed upon Japanese Americans nearly 60 years ago will not be repeated against Arab Americans whose loyalties are now being called into question.

I very frequently get the question: 'What's going to change in the next 10 years?' And that is a very interesting question; it's a very common one. I almost never get the question: 'What's not going to change in the next 10 years?' And I submit to you that that second question is actually the more important of the two -- because you can build a business strategy around the things that are stable in time. ... [I]n our retail business, we know that customers want low prices, and I know that's going to be true 10 years from now. They want fast delivery; they want vast selection. It's impossible to imagine a future 10 years from now where a customer comes up and says, 'Jeff I love Amazon; I just wish the prices were a little higher,' [or] 'I love Amazon; I just wish you'd deliver a little more slowly.' Impossible. And so the effort we put into those things, spinning those things up, we know the energy we put into it today will still be paying off dividends for our customers 10 years from now. When you have something that you know is true, even over the long term, you can afford to put a lot of energy into it.

Fill Me Up
I just had to let you know
'Cause I don't always let it show
You give me needed room to grow
And I just had to tell you so
You fill me up, you're in my veins
A look could take my breath away
And all these things, you give away
Sometimes I take for granted
It's just like poetry inside
To hear you breathing by my side
Like I'm in heaven and I've died
So glad you're with me for this ride
You fill me up, you're in my veins
A look could take my breath away
And all these things, you give away
Sometimes I take for granted
I see your face to start my day
Makes all my bad dreams go away
And all the stupid games we play
Wouldn't have it any other way
You fill me up, you're in my veins
A look could take my breath away
And all these things, you give away
Sometimes I take for granted
You fill me up, you're in my veins
A look could take my breath away
And all these things, you give away
Sometimes I take for granted

Look back
Hang a question mark on the things
You have taken granted so far.
It will help you cut short errors
Before it is too late to set it right.

People Like Us
Life is given as a gift
So it should be taken as one
We should wake up thankful that the day came
When you feel like you have it worst
You can always look at the people who have nothing
Then you would realize that you have everything
The people who have nothing
Don’t take life for granted
They are very grateful for everyday that comes
But people like us who have lots
Take life for granted
We don’t stop to realize what we’ve got
Then before we know it, it’s gone.
Its people like us
Who lead the troops to war.
And kill thousands, all over land.
Frankly I don’t understand why we
All can’t just get over it and increase the love
We all have to have material things such as cell phones
Most of us couldn't even go a day with out them.
Most of them have never even seen a cell phone
Yet, we still take things for granted
Everyday you should think about those
People when your getting mad because you
Can’t get your way
And maybe then one day
People will stop taking things for granted
Especially life
And live every day as if it were their last.
People like us need
To be like people like them

Like winds and sunsets, wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them. Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things natural, wild and free. For us of the minority, the opportunity to see geese is more important that television.

Crime, like disease, is not interesting it is something to be done away with by general consent, and that is all about it.

A better question might be what is it about those characters that appeals to audiences, or an even better question is why do audiences perceive them as creepy? I don't know if it's something in me. I don't know if it's in the playing of it or the perceiving of it. It's an interesting issue, though.

Some Aspects Are Irreconciliable
this is the story
you meet someone whom you think is very interesting
and you go to a busy place
buy beer and talk a while
the usual get to know scripts
more bottles to make
a certain familiarity
more words
and less periods
less question marks now
more of introspection
and then
all the questions are erased
the answers are too much to take
the conversations drag
and contempt comes at the last drink
'one for the road' the other says
you leave and you realize
home is always sweeter even without
anyone whom you at first think is very interesting.

Pretend That It Is Not Important, ....
to something that you do not want to lose
give it
its non-importance, take it for granted,
no one minds it, no one likes to take it,
it stays,
no one is interested, because you make it
not interesting,
so? you'll keep it for years
and it will be yours,
what we take as important
they will always consider taking it away from you
the secret is in the pretenses
when you are ready to dispose it
everyone begins taking other things from you
this pain thing, this motive to inflict pain
this is what they always want to do.
