Real art is without irony. Irony distances the author from his material. Irony is a product of something. It's not the reason for doing something. Irony is a cheap shot.

Where Is My Fire Extinguisher?
My house is ablaze
Set on fire by my own kids
Who are fire playing with fire
But are arrogantly so
Burning their own mother inside
From corner to corner and rummage
Looking for my fire extinguisher
Under the bed; behind the charcoal
I search everywhere but find it not
And then I opened the flour drum
There lay mixed in the maize flour
The extinguisher while I
All the while, burning in the fire
Choke in the smoke.
Through the kitchen window I escape
Breaking my limbs after the great fall
Leaving in hell my other children
Roasting in the fire their siblings had lit
Crying out for help from their helpless mother
I in turn had to call for help
Neighbors from far and near headed
My good neighbor Koffi Annan came
Oh! The imported fire extinguisher!
Thank you sir for saving us
But now, let me bury some
Of my kids who burnt alive
As I remember that golden handshake!

A Natural Reaction
A reprobate? Who, me?
What's up with that?
Don't ask me to cozy up
and be your pal, please!
If I wanted, I could wreak
havoc on the whole crew!
By the way, can you define
irony for me?
Yes, I said irony!
I don't think you understand
the uses of irony, do you?

We used to be friends but I
Haven't thought of you lately at all
If ever again (clap clap)
A greeting I send to you
Short and sweet to the soul I intend

Just remember me when

Or someone I know
Or you called me up
Maybe I wasn't home
Now everybody needs some time
And everybody knows
The rest of it's fine
And everybody knows now
Come on now sugar

Just remember me when
You're good to go

Empty Vein
I found an empty vein today,
And poured it down the sink.
I found an empty vein today.
They tell me what they think.
I found an empty vein today,
And lost it in my sleep.
I found an empty vein today.
It wasn't mine to keep.
I found an empty vein today,
And I learned how to speak.
I found an empty vein today,
But I guess I'm not that weak.
I found an empty vein today.
I found it in the snow.
I found an empty vein today.
They will never know.

The Irony of Love
Irony is a literary or rhetorical device.
The essayist Henry Watson Fowler wrote:
“any definition of irony
—though hundreds might be given,
and very few of them would be accepted—
must include this,
that the surface meaning
and the underlying meaning of
what is said are not the same.'
He left out that any definition of
Irony must include that it is cruel.
I never understood
The meaning of irony
Or how cruel it can be,
Until you told me,
That though you may love me,
You find it difficult to
Hear the words
“I love you” from me.
You see, some three years ago
You jokingly said
'I love you' to me,
And I begged you
Never to utter those words again.
Not because I did not want to hear them,
But because they were difficult for me.
They carried heart-felt consequences
That I did not want to face.
So, I shut out my heart and followed my head.
And in life filled with so many regrets,
It was the biggest mistake I ever made.
The irony,
After some thousand days have past,
You uttered the same
Imprudent sentiment to me.
This sentiment is the definition of irony –
The surface meaning
And underlying meaning are not the same.
Because although I asked you not to say
“I love you”,
It is all I wanted to hear.
The cruelty,
That now that heaven has at last
Blessed, cursed me with
Clarity of the heart,
And I want to say what I mean
With no different underlying sentiment,
You tell me you do not
Want to hear these words from me.
But the most ironic and cruelest part,
Will be,
If you make the same mistake I made
And keep from me what is within your heart.

Justify
To add justice,
I did not scream nor cry,
I instead called,
“Irony.”
Yes,
Irony.
The strange noun that bites and slaps when least expected.
So, to justify,
I called Irony.
I would like it to be shown, to the court at least, that I did nothing wrong,
nor nothing right.
I called his name,
when he was gone from sight.
I whispered my wisdom,
to a deaf and blind old fool,
I gave my only love,
To one who would never love at all.
So,
To justify,
I believe I did not lose,
I just didn't win.
That is often the case with irony.

Tear it down now mother don't play dead

The Jack
Here's a song of the record high voltage
This one is a song about the clap
Now we call it 'she's got the jack'
We'd like to give this one to you
Psssst
Gonorrhea, oh no, i just had my first dose
Of gonorrhea
She gave me her mind
Then she gave me her body
But it seems to me
That she gave it to anybody
But i made her cry
And i made her scream (scream for me)
[audience screams]
I took her high
And i curdled her cream
But how was i to know that she had been there before
She told me she was a virgin
She was number nine, ninety-nine on the clinical list
And i fell in love with the dirty little bitch
She's got the jack
(i hate to tell you this darling)
I searched her mind
And then i searched her body
...but so did everybody
But she gave me her heart
And she gave me her soul
And a great, big - warn out
Empty hole
But how was i to know it had been filled in before
She said, "bon, i've never had the urgency"
She was number nine, ninety-nine on the critical list
And i fell in love with the dirty little bitch
She's got the jack
(i'll kill her)
(oh and it hurts)
You know, i woke up one morning, and there it was on the sheets - the clap
Now i know you all call it the clap over here so what i'm gonna do
I'm gonna say "she's got the --", and i want you all to shout out
Just what it is she's got, in this case it's the clap
And if you wanna know who gave it to her, don't look at me
She's got the ...
(i wanna hear your voices)
She's got the ... clap
She's got the ... clap
She's got the ... clap
(that guy down there, whatta you doing?)
She's got the ... clap
(yeah, you show me)
She's got the ... clap
She's got the ... clap
(she got that too, ha?)
She's got the ... clap
(i think what she needs ... is an angus young penicilian)
Angus young
Alright
She's got the jack
Oh yes she has

Blessed your sanskrit lexicon when blessed
Blessed Navavarna kritis blossomed in stacks
To be blessed then planetary nine in seven talas
Extended seventy two Kartas issuing varieties aplenty
Blessed your peripatetic journey when blessed
Blessed Amrithavarshini pattered driving drought
To be blessed you then to sing to Madurai Meenakshi

Girl Like That
Were goin out tonight
New shelltones with blue stripes
My braves cap to the side
Painted blue levis
The club hops off at 10
But we wont be there then
Gotta stop at in-and-out
And get a #3
But hold the onions please
Pullin up to the valet
Though I hate to be that way
But a playas gotta play
And v.i.p.
Which girls are coming with me?
[chorus]
(in a red dress) I want a girl like that
(....................) I need a girl like that
(out late night) you need a girl like that
Hey hey hey hey
(with a tongue ring) I want a girl like that
(doin her own thing) I need a girl like that
(a little tattoo) we need a girl like that
Hey hey hey hey
Now were up in v.i.p.
Got this honey next to me
And she screams
When the dj plays
(peaches and cream)
Baby do that dance for me
Get your friends round
Two or three
We can rendevous
And do that thing we do
I wanna drink to you
After drinks, its time to leave
Go to valet, get my keys
Heres a fifty, keep the change
Jump in the range
Which honeys coming with me?
[chorus]
Yea its a party, girls all around me
Its a party, we gettin rowdy
Its a party, it - its a party
Clap your hands *clap clap*
Everybody up in the party
Everybody, time to get rowdy
Everybody up in the party
Clap your hands *clap clap clap clap*
(here we go)
Oh my god, its 6 am
The partys comin to an end
She asks me when we will again
Is that a sin?
Tomorrow is her best friend

Clap your wings Butterfly
Clap your wings
Butterfly, Butterfly
Clap your wings
Flutter by and fly
Your rainbow flower skin.
Strikes out glaringly beautiful in the sun
Whenever you take off the land and run
Your delicate beauty alone is breathtaking
Beautiful feelings inside of me keep awaking
When you clap your wings and fly
Butterfly sing with me
Beneath any tree
Clap your wings
Flap your wings
Flutter by and fly
Let's look up to the skies
Together on a lovely summer day
Before you decide to say goodbye!

I Stop And Wait/For A Poem
I Stop And Wait/ For A Poem
I stop and wait
For a poem.
The poem does not come
The city says ‘Morning beauty’
The silence is a sadness unsayable -
Light is lovely
Isn’t it?
Irony Irony Irony-
I write these lines
As if I actually believe
I am writing poetry
And doing something.

Love Calling
Sun goes down I rise
Red hair flames so bright
Iced gin breaks the night
Steal into her mind
Walk without a sound
Fire in the mountains now
If you wanna rub-a-dub, rub-a-dub
If you wanna rub-a-dub, dub love
Love calling, love calling
If you wanna rub-a-dub, rub-a-dub
If you wanna rub-a-dub, dub love
Love calling
So baby rock on
Clap hands, clap hands
For the song man
Rock on, rock on
Ooo baby rock on,
Clap hands, clap hands
For the song man
Rock on, rock on
Song man dreams for you
Moves his clapping space
Turns us into snakes
Hot hits
And the blue moon move, move, move
Move until we die
Move until she cries
If you wanna rub-a-dub, rub-a-dub
If you wanna rub-a-dub, dub love
Love calling, love calling
If you wanna rub-a-dub, rub-a-dub
If you wanna rub-a-dub, dub love
Love calling
Oo baby rock on
If you wanna rub-a-dub, rub-a-dub
If you wanna rub-a-dub, dub love
Love calling, love calling
If you wanna rub-a-dub, rub-a-dub
If you wanna rub-a-dub, dub love
Love calling
So[ooo? ] baby rock on
Clap hands, clap hands
For the song man
Rock on, rock on
Ooo baby rock on,
Clap hands, clap hands
For the song man
Rock on, rock on

Forbearance
(Beareth all things.---1 Cor. xiii. 7.)
Gently I took that which ungently came,
And without scorn forgave:--Do thou the same.
A wrong done to thee think a cat's-eye spark
Thou wouldst not see, were not thine own heart dark.
Thine own keen sense of wrong that thirsts for sin,
Fear that--the spark self-kindled from within,
Which blown upon will blind thee with its glare,
Or smother'd stifle thee with noisome air.
Clap on the extinguisher, pull up the blinds,
And soon the ventilated spirit finds
Its natural daylight. If a foe have kenn'd,
Or worse than foe, an alienated friend,
A rib of dry rot in thy ship's stout side,
Think it God's message, and in humble pride
With heart of oak replace it;--thine the gains--
Give him the rotten timber for his pains!

A taste for irony has kept more hearts from breaking than a sense of humor, for it takes irony to appreciate the joke which is on oneself.

Can't Really Get Enough Of Love Babe
once i have it, there is this irony, i give it away,
i wish, i dream, i work to have what i do not have yet
once it is in my hand, there is this irony, i throw it away.
the paradox of feelings, i had this joy, long time ago, and
i let it go, and i wish it comes back to me, like a memory of someone
too far away, i spend life like it is not life at all, i wish death, like death is life,
like it is not like, this is the irony of my life,
hating and loving and hating and loving, until, everything is gone
i have nothing and then i feel so complete.

The South Wind: A Fisherman's Blessing
O blessed drums of Aldershot!
O blessed South-west train!
O blessed, blessed Speaker's clock,
All prophesying rain!
O blessed yaffil, laughing loud!
O blessed falling glass!
O blessed fan of cold gray cloud!
O blessed smelling grass!
O bless'd South wind that toots his horn
Through every hole and crack!
I'm off at eight to-morrow morn,
To bring
such
fishes back!
