But our waking life, and our growing years, were for the most part spent in the kitchen, and until we married, or ran away, it was the common room we shared.

Death at Home

I entered the silent house
and saw my sister in the kitchen,
brooding over tepid dishwater, sipping beer,
slipping away from her pain,
as her sons, in the dusky back room,
door ajar, stroked his hair and gazed
in wonder at this spent, peaceful man,

and there I saw it,
the detritus of cancer,
spent oxygen bottles, bedpans,
unused morphine patches,

and there I felt it,
his quietus
filling the room,
thick, cutting, invisible
insistent.

So silently I took my nephews
back to the kitchen
and together we wondered
at how 64 years of living ends

on a gurney,
in a shrouded bag,
rolling roughly past your rosebushes,
past your silent truck,
past your whimpering dog,
to a plain,
white
van.

Until Now (I Love You)

You came into my life
when i was so young
you witnessed my growing up
shared my innocence
i love you without pretense.

You occupied my mind
you conquered my heart
every second, every minute
every hour, everyday of my life
i am with you, you are with me
together we spend night and day.

I can not leave you, i know
you color my world, you completed my life.
they may call me a fool,
but you are a part of me,
and together we will always be.

We cried together when i felt so lonely
you smile with me when i am happy
you bear with me in my sleepless nights
and dream with you in our own plight
together we faced the joy and sorrow
and promised to build our bright tomorrow.

I cherish those moments i spent with you
the laughter and tears we shared together
life without you is meaningless and bitter
no one can ever take you away from me
we'll die in each others arms and our memory
i have loved you and...
until now I LOVE YOU...my dear POETRY!

Visalakshi-2

Her husband died of a car accident.
It took place about three years ago.
Now she is free of encumbrances.
Hence I could talk to her as freely as
I did fifty two years back in her village
Where I met her, where we fell for each other.
I managed to get her phone number.

The last meeting of us was in her house
With her spouse, some twenty years ago.
She has married seven years after
Our episode, in the year I married,
Both being unaware of each other.
I saw her there after thirty two years
By when a lemon skinned beauty queen
Has turned into a dry skinned wrinkles.

I got her over phone and shared her grief.
She was upset, implying her bond with him.
She declined my offer of any meeting,
However incidental it might be.
‘Let us forget ours as a child game
With no renewal at this stage and age’
She said. Anxiety driven, she enquired
About me and family and my life.

Now she is seventy and weak as she told.
She is as old as me who am still robust.
It means we both were sweet seventeen
When we loved each other that went to
Being together with clothes stripped of
In her bolted room with a resolution
To elope, till we were caught red handed.
How quick a woman vomits her ex lover!

A Very Special Love

She said, "I spent eight years in California
That's the reason why I talk the way I do
But I've heard how Southern men respect the ladies
And I'd like to meet a gentleman like you"
Well, I spent most of my life in Alabama
That's the reason why I talk the way I do
And I've always had this thing for sun-tanned ladies
And I'd really like to spend some time with you
And we walked on the beach till early morning
And we watched as the sun came up again
And somehow we both shared the feelin'
That we'd just made a very special friend
Tomorrow I'll go back to Alabama
And you'll fly from Atlanta to L.A.
And I'll get back to takin' care of bus'ness,
And you'll go back to starrin' on the stage
But we'll think of the beach come Monday morning
When both of us get back to push and shove
And somehow we will always remember
The night we shared a very special love
I spent most of my life in Alabama
That's the reason why I talk the way I do
I know we shared a very special friendship
The night we made a very special love

The Other half of me

Plato told a fabulous tale
of two souls so meant to be
that when they met together
she completed he.

For so it was with us, my Love,
from childhood's first shy glance.
For far longer than most married folk
we shared Love's sweet slow dance.

Now it seems you want a break
We no longer are a pair;
At parties where we'd both attend
there is one empty chair.

Our once shared bed is empty, too.
This place I toss and turn.
Faint fragrant traces of perfume
remind me why I yearn.

A brief lacuna in our life
I hope this proves to be.
If this parting is forever
were we never meant to be?

I've lost the best part of myself,
our friends so clearly see.
Like part of Plato's soul I seek
the other half of me.

Survivor of My Griefs

I admit...
There is much in my own hometown,
I am not aware of that exists.
Most of my time spent,
Has been done healing from grief.
And growing into adulthood.

And the other part of my life,
Has been lived far away from sorrows.
And today I can say,
I have been blessed to have lived that way...
Far away from sorrows.
And growing into an adulthood,
I can now live knowing...
I am a survivor of my griefs.

27 Years! ! ! ! !

27 years of my life-
I lived like a wife,
waiting for my husband kiss;
Which i always missed.

27 years of my life -
Waited all the nights,
To share my happiness and sadness;
And i felt it was madness.

27 years of my life-
I spent with unknown husband,
Who has time to work;
And I felt like a jerk.

27 years of my life-
I spent with boredom,
And being a loyal wife;
I lost my freedom.

After 27 years of my life-
I still feel something missing,
I still keep looking;
And still waiting.
And the next 27 years will pass by:
Without my husband near by.

I'll Just Shorten My Speech

'Captain?
The ship has a leak.
I think it is sinking! '

What part of it?

'What part of it, sir? '

Yes!
Is it near the dining room,
Or near the kitchen?

'I am not sure, sir.
But I do believe it is near the bow! '

Well...
I'll just shorten my speech.
And tell the crew not to use,
The applause sign!
And you get a mop...
Or some sponges,
To take care of that.
I don't want anyone slipping...
After OR before I take that bow!
Got it?

'Sir...
You have no idea! '

I Haven't Changed The Room

Music & Lyrics by Barry Manilow
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the room that we shared
The room that you cared for
So I haven't changed the room
How did the years slip away
I could swear you're still there
For I haven't changed the room
Now that you're gone
What am I to do
So many fantasies
Plans that we made
That will never come true
And I haven't changed all that much
And I'm sure you'd be proud of
The way that I came through
So if you happen to be passin' by
To make sure that you recognize it
I haven't changed the room

Every morning

You are faithful to your morning
Prayers and your habit of
Having coffee first
After waking up

So the room smells of coffee
Fumes wafting
Settling to
My nostrils
As I pretend sleeping

You complain somehow
That this room
No longer smells
The pungent
Odors
of lovers

Of our common
Sweat drying because
We have overslept
Because we are so exhausted
each one
unattended.

Everyone Is Growing Older

Between warring Countries hostilities do not last
And 'tis true your friend of tomorrow may be your foe of the past
But life goes on as usual that's how it seems to be
And we make friends with the old foe to fight our new common enemy
And everyone grows older but few grow wise and gray
For we still glorify the folly of war in the World of today
And we find things in common when we have a common foe
But as we do grow older few of us do wiser grow,
We celebrate war heroes to die in war is not seen as a sin
And when one war it is over another war begin
To use the name of God in war seems hypocritical that would seem fair to say
And to Moses fifth commandment respect we never pay
Crimes of hate and xenophobia sad to say are on the rise
And everyone is growing older but so few are growing wise.

Enough Is Enough...

the time has come
to say, this is enough
we do not need anything
the room is full
there is nothing more
to cook
in the kitchen

we only watch time passing away
prepared for the
next eventuality

the vagabonds in us are waking
all feet are ready
not a bag shall be carried
the world comes around us
and we are carried...

The World Out There....

i look at the room
where we once shared
happiness,
it is the same room
now
that shall make us live
the
season of
sadness,

nothing's changed
nothing will be changed here

white walls,
white tiled floors
same fluorescent tube
same switch
on the frame
of the door

the cabinets are still brown
though not glossy
with age

how many years?
20 years
swift as the flight of
seagulls

white winged birds on
sky blue seas

the matrimonial
bed is losing
its soft cushion

our backs endured all these
roughness now
when we make no more
demands
for life to give us
more

ah, how many years more?
i do not need much
5 can be a surplus

what do i need
of 10 years more?

i am a simple man
willing to explore
what lies in the unknown

this present
is all revealed and i
am satisfied,

there is more out there
the stars are not
telling

the moon is still secretive
to the
bounty of calm
and beauty

i shall be there
in due time
without you.
