Too Many Myths

(Van Morrison)
Too many myths
People just assuming things that aren't true
There's too many myths
Coming between me and you
You might have your name up in lights
But you still have to keep your game uptight
Too many myths
Tell me, tell me how you gonna cope with this
Too many myths
You act like you've never been kissed
You put your name up in lights
And now you gotta keep your game uptight
You got problems
I got problems too
Everybody's gonna think
There must be something wrong with you because
There's just too many myths
Can't you see I'm just trying to stay in the game
Just too many myths
I'm just trying to maintain
Sure I got my name in lights
But I've still gotta keep my game uptight
[Instrumental break]
You got problems
And I got problems too
But that doesn't necessarily mean that
There's something wrong with you
There's just too many myths,
Baby I'm just trying to stay in the game
There's far too many myths
I'm just trying to maintain
I got my name up in lights
But I'm just trying to keep my game uptight

Sonnet: The Poet and Science

Is Science, a poet’s foe in poetry?
Why blame the world of science for its progress?
Out-moded’s the poet’s Nature-study;
Literature must wear a scientific dress.

Gone are the days of blind beliefs/ legends;
Man has landed on the moon many times;
No more the moon has myths it portends;
Let science therefore be thy decor in rhymes.

Decoded has man, the human genome;
Many diseases have a cure today;
’Tis unwise still to write the myths of Rome!
Poets incorporate what science shall say.

Science is no impediment to the art!
Let modern poets make a newer start.

Off The Tracks Of Peace

From hostage to rasisms,
But the myths of love live on;
And like a poetry of freedom in the land of war! !
But the hostage of the myths had led us all off the tracks of peace.

Fables should be taught as fables, myths as myths, and miracles as poetic fantasies. To teach superstitions as truths is a most terrible thing. The child mind accepts and believes them, and only through great pain and perhaps tragedy can he be in after years relieved of them.

Where Are the Myths

And when they awakened,
From a deep sleep...
No one could convince,
It was reality creeping in!
No one could convince them,
It was of their creation.
A tasteless blend...
No one offered to recommend.
It was fed right in their sight.
How could this be?
This unsettling vision that frights!
Stark and bare without a hint of spice.
For decades it was there!
It was as clear as the blight ignored!
Even though this appeared to them everywhere.
Many prayed these 'sightings' would go away.
It was too painfully portrayed.
Sugarless and embittered seethings...
Preyed upon their doorsteps!
But it was indeed 'reality' they dismissed.
And it wasn't going anywhere!
It was there glaring.
And they insisted...
They had no idea it existed!
Where are the myths they knew?
Who chased them to drift...
With a shallowness dismissed.
Where are the myths they once pursued?
And who has delivered this?
To leave for the unbelieving...
As a tormenting joke!
Left to traumatize and cripple as it sits!
Where are the myths...
To protect a comfort,
Many knew for them would be sorely missed!

Fables should be taught as fables, myths as myths, and miracles as poetic fancies. To teach superstitions as truths is a most terrible thing. The child mind accepts and believes them, and only through great pain and perhaps tragedy can he be in after years relieved of them. In fact, men will fight for a superstition quite as quickly as for a living truth - often more so, since a superstition is so intangible you cannot get at it to refute it, but truth is a point of view, and so is changeable.

Faith

When all precepts of men fall short of mark,
And for a line to grasp, there’s none to find,
A wisp of truth among the shreds may spark,
As true of stones colliding and would grind;
Can men contain the sky that’s limitless?
Like sea that has a bottom though how deep?
When heart aspires of Heaven for its bliss,
Though mind succumbs to doubt that soon would creep;
But of unknowns, I’d chose the splendid deal,
Of awesome myths, if myths they all would be,
Rather than be among minions of Hell;
“So sorry, Mr. Devil, sir, not today,
“But if you really have to aim for me,
Come back a day after eternity.”

A Shift Of Myths Has Come

In the shadows of the night...
A shift of myths has come.
An expansion of consciousness...
To all has converged!
And so it shall be done!

On the wings of a painless recovery...
Some insist,
The suffering done by those wounded,
Could actually exist.
If this mindset was persisted.

To pretend their conflicts are imagined afflictions...
And this would diminish,
If more delusions were applied to it!

Forget foreclosures and a global economic crisis.
Forget a quality of life...
That has disappeared overnight.
Forget those who say,
What is here is here to stay!
Let's do what has always worked before...
Let's ignore it and maybe this 'newness',
Will go away!

'But that has never worked!
Only the recycling of the same,
Has been witnessed to emerge! '

In the shadows of the night...
A shift of myths has come.
An expansion of consciousness...
To all has converged!
And so it shall be done!

And those disbelieving will see for themselves,
Those pieces isolated once declared impossible fits...
Suddenly blended together with a new leadership,
That desires...
Without quitting,
A new World that demands and orders it!

In the shadows of the night...
A shift of myths has come.
An expansion of consciousness...
To all has converged!
And so it shall be done!

Fixed In A Stubbornness

Fantasized with a clinging onto old myths,
Has not only continued to destroy with obviousness...
The value lacking they have in all of their relationships.
Their addictions fixed in a stubbornness,
Will not open their eyes to become aware of this.
But accusations stay and with them to exist,

Every warning face with messages delivered,
They have ignored.
Every chance to self examine with an honesty,
Has been refused to explore...
The maintaining of wishes they can not dismiss.
They view themselves as having 'character'.
And not suffering from severe defective mental illness.

Fantasized with a clinging onto old myths,
Has not only continued to destroy with obviousness...
The value lacking they have in all of their relationships.
Their addictions fixed in a stubbornness,
Will not open their eyes to become aware of this.
But accusations stay and with them to exist,
With a blaming of others for their own failures.

And a hope they have to change their leadership,
With a strengthening of their myths...
Will erase their pains they have self inflicted,
As well as relinquish them...
From all aspects of their foolishness to add even more,
Sweetness.

Certain truths about human beings have never changed. We are tribal creatures in our very DNA; we have an instinctive preference for our own over others, for "in-groups" over "out-groups"; for hunter-gatherers, recognizing strangers as threats was a matter of life and death. We also invent myths and stories to give meaning to our common lives. Among those myths is the nation - stretching from the past into the future, providing meaning to our common lives in a way nothing else can. Strip those narratives away, or transform them too quickly, and humans will become disoriented. Most of us respond to radical changes in our lives, especially changes we haven’t chosen, with more fear than hope.

Cut Me Some Slack

Why are these folks trying to revive the visions,
Of the Mayflower?
Jamestown and Plymouth Rock?
Quaker days with colonial ignorance?

With myths sold to flock tourists...
Who come fantasized by the change of leaves,
In the Fall!
And killing innocent turkeys.
Just to lock up some old lady in the kitchen,
So everyone can say how grateful it is to greed...
In celebration of Thanksgiving at grandma's house.

'That's being disrespectful.'

You don't have to tell me that.
The Indians are the ones,
Who haven't been given a forum yet.
And I bet they've got lots to say.

'Are you 'for' or 'against' the holidays? '

Did I say anything about turning down a good meal?
I am a writer.
Not a fool!

That's the only time I welcome these myths.
The season slowly approaches.
But for now...
We are in the midst of August.
And I can't stand this humidity!
I've got to vent about 'something'.
Cut me some slack!

Without Context - So Absurd

Who has the money to publish elaborately
illustrated children's books with over 350
stunning paintings and artworks, another
with drawings, glossy and inviting; impar-
ting no knowledge whatsoever?

The book on symbols, signs and visual
codes informs the underage reader door-
ways symbolise entrances and the hearth
is a symbol of safety and comfort - well,
hallelujah, nobody knew!

The broom is a symbol of removal - no way,
I thought it a symbol of magical midnight
trips for witches & wizards from Hogwarts;
curtains symbolise separation, oh wow,
insight indeed!

The book of Myths and Legends recounts
each story on two pages accompanied by
several pictures stating the stories explain
the world and our place in it - thus stylised
accounts of precession

And world cataclysms in which ‘gods'
swallow their children are supposed to
explain the meaning of life? No, myths
and legends are illogical - only when
seen as relaying

Ancient knowledge of science and astro-
nomy in codes where natural forces are
depicted as persons; do the tales have
meaning, otherwise they are without
context - so absurd…

Why Should We Believe In A God

From the day we are born we're taught myths galore,
Cartoon characters when young are so real,
Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny we love and adore,
To us they all have a special appeal.

Then once a year there comes Santa Claus,
Down our chimneys he always arrives,
Some biscuits and milk with a couple of straws,
On our goodwill this great man thrives.

Then it happens you lose one of your teeth,
Under your pillow it's then placed,
The following morning you find cash underneath,
The Tooth Fairy's tale is embraced.

Easter morning and a basket full of sweets,
Lies at the bottom of your bed,
The Easter Bunny well that's how he entreats,
You never dreamed you were being misled.

Myths by the million we're taught to believe,
But as we mature we find out the truth,
Then with our own we continue to deceive,
It's got a lot to answer for has our youth.

What they all have in common is none can be seen,
We're taught to believe in what we can't see,
What adults teach us becomes our routine,
In the main we always tend to agree.

There's one thing we're taught we must never forget,
We're assured this one's not a myth,
It's the same as the others yet we owe it a debt,
Though you can't say who or what it is with.

This unseen entity we must never defame,
It is mighty and very prestigious,
In different cultures it has many a name,
Its followers claim to be religious.

What makes it so different from all those others?
When the story is exactly the same
You can't touch or feel it, common sense it smothers,
Yet were all taught this you must never defame?

He is the creator of everything alive today,
In his presence we should be overawed,
If all other tales are myths then what I must say,
Is,

‘' Why Should We Believe In A God ‘'

Accustomed To An Irrational Way Of Life

A common sense,
Directed to someone accustomed.
To an irrational way of life,
Deluded and fantasized.
By the existence of praising myths,
Will begin unending arguments.
Over expenditures that exist,
On the feeding of a feast on the ability.
To maintain one's credit standing.

Especially when one's standing,
On debts owed.
Requires one to pay up,
For an out of control feasting to be paid.
As a 'sensible' way to pay for it with 'cash'.
Something demanded that one does not have.

And to state with a dignified presence,
That those awaiting to be paid for those losses generated.
Should be the ones already suffering,
From those mistakes made by those who fed at the feast.
To leave it in shambles,
And the ones left starving and homeless.
Are responsible and accountable to pay for a mess,
While those greedy keep.
Not only what they have hoarded,
But also the resources stuffed in their overflowing pockets.

A common sense,
Directed to someone accustomed.
To an irrational way of life,
Deluded and fantasized.
By the existence of praising myths,
Will begin unending arguments.
Over expenditures that exist,
On the feeding of a feast on the ability.
To maintain one's credit standing.

And
They have no intention to pay a cent,
For what has been spent.
To sustain their lofty positions,
Because they have been hypnotized.
On rights of their entitlements.

A common sense,
Directed to someone accustomed.
To an irrational way of life,
Is like introducing a reality never known.
Nor will that reality expressed be accepted.
