It is wrong to expect a reward for your struggles. The reward is the act of struggle itself, not what you win.

My Beautiful Reward
Well I sought gold and diamond rings
My own drug to ease the pain that living brings
Walked from the mountain to the valley floor
Searching for my beautiful reward
Searching for my beautiful reward
From a house on a hill a sacred light shines
I walk through these rooms but none of them are mine
Down empty hallways I went from door to door
Searching for my beautiful reward
Searching for my beautiful reward
Well your hair shone in the sun
I was so high I was the lucky one
Then I came crashing down like a drunk on a barroom floor
Searching for my beautiful reward
Searching for my beautiful reward
Tonight I can feel the cold wind at my back
Im flyin high over gray fields my feathers long and black
Down along the rivers silent edge I soar
Searching for my beautiful reward
Searching for my beautiful reward

My Time Given Seeks No Reward
A stain has been left on it.
A path I pave.
I suspect someone,
Has taken it for granted.
Believing it easy...
To chase me away!
My time given,
Seeks no reward.
Footprints are all over it.
And trashed by disrespect.
Although none of this was expected...
I accept this with regret.
My time given,
Seeks no reward.
To move forward is a personal quest.
Obstacles challenge.
And they will be faced...
With the best from me,
Unseen yet!
My time given,
Seeks no reward.
I am not motivated,
By spotlight!
Or applause.
Nor am I awed,
By my own accomplishments.
Those things done...
Are released.
Not stored.
My time given,
Seeks no reward.
I continue to be 'me'...
Even when I am ignored.
I choose to adventure.
I choose to explore.
And in 'this' time given,
I do not seek to reach for reward.
My mission is not to sit with impatience.
Or wait for an approval...
Until I am bored.
My time given,
Seeks no reward.
Nor do I rush to aboard a ship,
Not of my accord!
To agree or reconcile with to fit!
My time given,
Seeks no reward.
And I will not investigate,
The slithering movements...
Done to deceive by a snake.

Is there any reward?
Is there any reward?
I'm beginning to doubt it.
I am broken and bored,
Is there any reward
Reassure me, Good Lord,
And inform me about it.
Is there any reward?
I'm beginning to doubt it.

The way I see things, the way I see life, I see it as a struggle. And there's a great deal of reward I have gained coming to that understanding - that existence is a struggle.

Love Is Its Own Reward
Like kisses from ices
And tiffany tokens
Lifes full of surprises
So many emotions
Why try to fix
What isnt broken
Life comes in sovereigns
Love comes in gold
A cargo of moments
Youd swear you could hold
But it slips away somehow
(where) nobody knows
* love is its own reward
Love is its own reward
Take it or leave it
Fake it or feel it
Love is its own reward
Hoist the mainsail
To perilous waters
Step below deck
Youll find elegant quarters
Whos gonna save you
If you should falter
Watch the main phase
Sail through the century
Rise like a starman
And blaze on re-entry
Whats there to life
Running on empty
(* repeat)
Walking down main street
With cupid and psyche
Whom should we meet
But sweet aphrodite
I fall to my knees
And praise the almighty
We never go hungry
We never get bored
We are the future
That cant be ignored
Love can rob you of your thunder
And thats more than you can afford
(* repeat)
Love is its own reward
Love is its own reward
Take it or leave it
Let me reveal it
Love is its own reward

Second Nature
[Verse 1 Beyonce:]
Why does love always seem so very hard
It's such a struggle to win the reward
Because I'm playin' with the wrong cards
But I think I got the winnin' hands
There's something different about you babe
That tells me I can
I say it's easy for the things that I do
Never a question always a pleasure to
Love you

The scar of love.
Just a look from your eyes
Was like a bolt in blue to my soul.
Just a smile on your lips
Was all it took to make me flutter.
Just a hold on your hand
Was all it could reward to my lust.
Just a scar in my heart
Was all you could give me as reward.

One might think that the money value of an invention constitutes its reward to the man who loves his work. But... I continue to find my greatest pleasure, and so my reward, in the work that precedes what the world calls success.

Eleth
Give him the reward that he has earned and,
Let me go on my way;
And like my lover in Albania who dwells alone,
For the High Society is full of nakedness!
Call in Eleth and let me lead you on,
And light up your eyes and look upon my fields!
For they are already white for harvest,
And the reward is given in line with what you've earned.

It is Basic Management 101 that if you reward failure you are going to get more failure, and if you want success you should reward success. But if you look at the way this administration has approached national security, they have kind of got that principle backwards.

Don't brand as ungrateful dogs.
I grew a fruit tree that failed to bear.
The hope and joy I got in its growth
Being the reward for my efforts,
I should not curse the tree for its failure.
Let the grown up children desert you.
Let those you helped grow, have forgot you.
The pleasure you experienced then
Is the reward to act as gratitude.
