Another Rainy Day In New York City

Another rainy day in new york city
Softly sweet, so silently it falls
As crosstown traffic crawls
Memories in my way in new york city
Tender, tough, too tragic to be true
And nothing I can do
City workers cheer
The taxis disappear
Another rainy day in new york city
Another spacey stay in new york city
High up in an overpriced hotel
The view is really swell
Windy, wet and gray in new york city
No one here I really want to see
Old friends and family
So suddenly serene
The air is fresh and clean
Another rainy day in new york city
Its another rainy day
Just a rainy, rainy day
Its another rainy day
Just a rainy, rainy day

New York Times

New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Cars choking your child to death
But you dont wanna see
Cause you only think about yourself
How blind can you be
New york poor new york
Sniper on the rooftop new york
New york poor new york
Not fit for a dog in new york
Everybody bites on the big apple
Leave the hungry in tears
But no one gives a damn no one really cares
How they feel theyre just paper people not real
You need a gun to walk into new york
Now youre broke and youre out on a ledge
Who can help you this time
Now youre down to your very last cent
Still youre askin me who was your friend
I was your friend
New york poor new york
Who turned the lights out in new york
New york poor new york
Just another blackout in new york
Girl dead on the 26th floor
But no one knew her name
Found her body behind the door
Too young for the game
New york poor new york
Devils in the subway new york
New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Talkin talkin talkin - watch out
Harlem touching midtown new york
New york poor new york
Talkin bout new york new york
Moneys getting tighter new york
Theyre burning the bridges to new york

The Moon of Myths

the ruby red in
october
the crystally white in
feburary

as the winds blow across the night time skies
the moon becomes shurrded in the mist of
may

a round dimond pearl
shining above the citites ans towns
looking down at the few
who still belive that big silver thing
is the ruler of night
and still has a few more ancient mysteries to solve

honor the moon
for it's more than just a big white shiny rock

what few know is
the moon holds your life in
it's craters

Dearest Man-in-the-Moon

Dearest man-in-the-moon,
ever since our lunch of cheese
& moonjuice
on the far side of the sun,
I have walked the craters of New York,
a trail of slime
ribboning between my legs,
a phosphorescent banner
which is tied to you,
a beam of moonlight
focused on your navel,
a silver chain
from which my body dangles,
& my whole torso chiming
like sleigh bells in a Russian novel.

Dearest man-on-the-moon,
I used to fear moonlight
thinking her my mother.
I used to dread nights
when the moon was full.
I used to scream
'Pull down the shade!'
because the moonface leered at me,
because I felt her mocking,
because my fear lived in me
like rats in a wheel of cheese.

You have eaten out my fear.
You have licked
the creamy inside of the moon.
You have kissed
the final crescent of my heart
& made it full.

Gaze

The eyes fixed at the night sky over yonder
Heart flutters the glimmer fonder
Moon smiles in full bloom
But the heart's a locked empty room
My eyes heel me tonight
I no longer strive to fight
Seasons of loneliness the craters of my heart
The craters of the moon heal me in concert
You beauty captures me Diana…..or are you Selene tonight
Only shine on me your healing light
Do you see me calling you
Or are your craters hurting you
Have you seen the worst of humanity in your nightly gazes
Or are you a giant in heart and soul that nothing fazes
Look down on me the dwarf beneath you
Or are there too many souls waiting for you in queue
This is my last call its time for the sheets
Look at me once so that I can rest my feet
A twinkle on your face you saw me from far
Did you hear me or did someone else put a request for me in your jar
Thank you my friend in need
For tonight I'm now a slave freed
Your beams have reinvigorated me tonight
Now its time to slumber and regain that fight
Till tomorrow when I gaze at you again
Hoping that you will gaze at me over and over again.

New York Morning, Glimpse of Beauty (alt/beat version)

Sunrise, discarding New York magazine
poems not of city, even could
have written them myself, it seems

Heat grows, tossing New York Times
Vade Mecum of commute, tired of weight
of business and estate, pages never used

Now New York streets, unforgiving
red-light-jumping cars, pedestrians running on
adrenalin and wheels, upending

boy on crutches
baby carriage
scattered in their haste

to steal a march upon
New York morning sun
Even those possessed

of lifetime wage employment can't resist
caffeine-driven New York state of mind
traffic cops, tabloids and terror plots

look up, construction into sky
precise design and accident, human-conceived
magnificence, fragile towers, peaks

beloved Chrysler spire, beauty glimpsed
at last, New York windows upon sun
Clouds where passengers no longer fly.

Crosstown Traffic

You jump in front of my car
When you know all the time
That 90 miles an hour Girl Is the speed I drive
You tell me it's all right
You don't mind a little pain
You say you just want me to take you for a drive

You're just like CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
So hard to get through you CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
I don't need to run over you CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
All you do is slow me down
But I'm tryin' to get on the other side of town

I'm not the only soul who's accused of hit and run
Tire tracks all across your back I can see you've had your fun
But a-darling
Can't you see my signal's turn from green to red
And with you I can see a traffic jam straight ahead

You're just like CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
So hard to get through you CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
I don't need to run over you CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
All you do is slow me down
But I got better things on the other side of town

Yeah Yeah Crosstown traffic
Look out LOOK OUT Look out Baby
Coming through CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
Yeah Yeah Look out CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC
Yeah Yeah LOOK OUT Look out Look out Baby
CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC LOOK OUT YEAH

New York

In New York freedom looks like
Too many choices
In New York I found a friend
To drown out the other voices

Voices on a cell phone
Voices from home
Voices of the hard sell
Voices down a stairwell
In New York
Just got a place in New York

In New York summers get hot
Well into the hundreds
You can walk around the block
Without a change of clothing

Hot as a hair dryer in your face
Hot as a handbag and a can of mace
New York
I just got a place in New York

On the Face of the Moon

I feel your pain running deep,
By the light of the moon I see you weep,
Lost and lonely in a crowd,
You shout your thoughts out loud,
Is there nothing sacred on earth?
Is there no love without dirt?

Your heart is on the moon,
Craters filled with gloom,
To whom will you turn,
Loves ashes fill the urn,

Why, oh why, did I forget?
This is no time for regret,
I should have taken more time,
Your pain is greater than mine,
It's never too late, love can be great!
Love lost, need not be your fate!

Your heart is on the moon,
Craters filled with gloom,
To whom will you turn,
Loves ashes fill the urn,

They never meant to cause you pain,
Love lets them live their game,
We watch and learn about life,
There is no need for strife,
I'll wait for you on the face of the moon,
Stars shining bright, lift the gloom,

Your heart in the clouds,
Far from the crowds,
Eyes bright as stars,
Life might be better on Mars?

Traffic Jam

Carbon monoxide
Making me choke
No a.c.
And the radios broke
Cars backed up
Far as you can see
Seems like Ive been waiting here for all eternity
Oh, and just in case youre wondering
Ill tell you where I am
Im right here (right here) right here (right here)
Stuck right here in the middle of this...
Traffic jam
I havent moved one inch from this here spot
Traffic jam
The freeways one big parking lot
Traffic jam
My radiators boiling hot
And Im stuck right here in the middle (right here in the middle)
Right here in the middle of a traffic jam
Trapped inside
My automobile
Cobwebs gowin
On the steerin wheel
Now, Im no genius
But one thing I know
I shouldnt have had that bag of bran muffins
An hour and a half ago
Yeah, and if you need to find me
Ill tell you where I am
Im right here (right here) right here (right here)
Stuck smack dab in the middle of this...
Traffic jam
I havent moved one inch from this here spot
Traffic jam
The freeways one big parking lot
Traffic jam
Well, I thought we were movin but I guess were not
cause Im stuck right here in the middle (right here in the middle)
Right here in the middle of a traffic jam
Stuck in the middle of a traffic jam
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Bumper to bumper to bumper to bumper to
Bumper to bumper to bumper to bumper to
Bumper to bumper to bumper to bumper...
Yay-hey!
Theres a yuppie on a cellular phone
Im gonna puke if I here any more
Theres a motorcycle zoomin by me
Watch what happens when I open my door
Now were all goin nowhere fast
Well, I guess thats perfectly clear
I left home five hours ago
And I can still see my house from here
So if anybodys tryin to find me
Well, Ill tell you where I am
Right here (right here) right here (right here)
Stuck right here in the middle of this...
Traffic jam
I havent moved one inch from this here spot
Traffic jam
The freeways one big parking lot
Traffic jam
Now my back teeth are floatin and my nerves are shot
And Im stuck right here in the middle (right here in the middle)
Stuck right here in the middle of a traffic jam
Traffic jam... traffic jam... traffic jam... woo!

A Heart In New York

New york
To your tall skyline I come
Flying in from london
To your door
New york
Lookin down on central park
Where they say you should not wander
After dark
New york
Like a scene from all those movies
But youre real enough to me
But theres a heart
A heart that lives in new york
A heart in new york
A rose on the street
I write my song to that city heartbeat
A heart in new york
Love in her eye
An open door and a friend for the night
New york
You got money on your mind
And my words dont make a dimes
Worth a difference
So heres to you new york
New york
Now my plane is touching down

New York

New York, New York
A city that breathes endlessly
Dollars are spent carelessly
New York, New York
A city of squares and blocks
And the Stars roll and rock
While tourist flock
Like sheep cornered in squares

Entertainment, clubs and theatres
Is all that seems to matter
Twenty four seven
Alive in heaven

New York
A taxi takes you round and round the blocks
I end up in Madison Square
Where I started out twenty minutes before
But who cares?
This is New York
Every where there are open doors

New York, New York
A city that never sleeps
Everywhere you must leave a tip
But this city is worth the trip
New York, New York
A city of numbers and avenues
And elongated queues

It is true
I see now, I know now
About what they say about New York!

New York Woman

It was getting dark in a snow-covered park,
I thought I saw you smiling.
You left town to marry a texas millionaire,
I wonder how you are doing.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I love you.
I heard him on the air discussing world affairs,
And something about his global vision.
Thats when I wondered if you made the right decision,
I want to know what youre thinking.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I miss you.
You were a new york woman,

New york woman,

Playing Golf at Midnight

Playing golf in the moonlight,
at midnight, at night, when light
cannot be trusted, when sight
deceives, it can’t be right.

He drives the sphere with the craters
like the moon, white like the moon,
orbiting like the moon; soon
it will collide with grass or sand, and

the black night will swallow the white
moon and the driving sphere
and no one will know where
went the white and where went the black
and why.

And after the ball has divorced its tee
and after the moon laughs
and retires behind the roofs
of the neighborhood houses,
the silence of the green
and the heartbreaking loveliness
of the green emerge and converge
and here in the suburban
wilderness, the only home he has,
he sees for the first time
how clouds absorb
and disperse
the light of the moon.
