The driver of a racing car is a component. When I first began, I used to grip the steering wheel firmly, and I changed gear so hard that I damaged my hand.

Losing My Grip

Loosing My Grip
Hoobastank
(The Scorpion King)
All the questions
I went through
I never told myself the truth
I turned my back
On you and me
'Cause I was scared to see
That we weren't
Who we used to be
So now I'm
Trying hard to
Let go, let you go
But I can't seem to
Loosen my grip
Trying hard to
Let go, let you go
Let you go, go
Feeling emptiness inside
A part of me already died
But I pretended to go on
Like everything's ok
And all we built began to fall
As I began to lose it all
Shut my eyes
And set me free
'Cause I was scared to see
That we weren't
Who we used to be
So now I'm
Trying hard to
Let go, let you go
But I can't seem to
Loosen my grip
Trying hard to
Let go, let you go
Let you go, go
You're all that
I ever wanted
You're everything
That I need
But now it's finally over
Time for goodbyes
I needed so now I'm
Trying hard to
Let go, let you go
But I can't seem to
Loosen my grip
Trying hard to
Let go, let you go
Let you go, go

Frailty Of All Creatures

When I was a young driver,
Fresh behind the wheel,
I saw a bird fly beneath a driver’s car
Ahead of me.

Her wings were broken
And her body badly damaged.
She flapped without hope
On the hot July street.

When I approached her,
I ran her over;
I cannot be sure
Accidentally or purposely.

I began to cry
And pray to St. Francis,
Poor little bird!

But I thought,
Does God see
The lonely pain of a bird
And the frailty of all creatures?

At that moment,
I became resolved
Every poem I wrote
Would be a prayer
For compassion.

So now, even if I write
About a gorgeous sunset
Or the enchantment of a woman’s eyes,
It really is a prayer for love and mercy

Changing Grips...

when reality gets berserk
unable to grip the steering wheel
when the car turns turtle and when
there is no way pulling you out or
opening the door
mind you, you change faith
your spirit flies away and
begins to worship the goddess
of Illusion...that is.... if you still
want to live again.

Their All Jolly Good Sports

Batsmen stand at their crease
the aim is to get them out
fielders dive about for catches
when the ball has been given a clout.
Boxers step boldly into the ring
they try and knock their opponent out
as they move and bob around
the crowd get excited and shout.
The dart player at the Oche
throws his darts at the board
while a Fencer thrusts his weapon
trying to win points with his sword.
The Formula One driver
has to have nerves of steel
as he tears around the circuit
sat behind his steering wheel.
Golfers with their putters
driving the ball towards the hole
as the football teams star striker
scores another winning goal.
Athletes like to win gold medals
throwing Javelins or jumping high
but adrenalin junkies climb mountains
or jump out of aeroplanes in the sky.
Wrestlers grapple against each other
using chops, kicks, and the headlock,
while Cyclists pedal around the track
racing hard against the clock.
They all want to be the best
and become a sporting celebrity
while the rest of us are contented
to watch them whilst lying on the settee!

Im In Love With My Car

Words and music by roger taylor
The machine of a dream
Such a clean machine
With the pistons a pumpin
And the hub caps all gleam
When Im holdin your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When my hands on your grease gun
Oh its like a disease son
Im in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
Get a grip on my boy racer rollbar
Such a thrill when your radials squeal
Told my girl Ill have to forget her
Rather buy me a new carburetor
So she made tracks sayin
This is the end now
Cars dont talk back
Theyre just four wheeled friends now
When Im holdin your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When Im cruisin in overdrive
Dont have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive
Im in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
Im in love with my car
String back gloves in my automolove

Little Honda

Go!
Im gonna wake you up early
Cause Im gonna take a ride with you
Were going down to the honda shop
Ill tell you what were gonna do
Put on a ragged sweatshirt
Ill take you anywhere you want me to
First gear (honda honda) its alright (faster faster)
Second gear (little honda honda) I lean right (faster faster)
Third gear (honda honda) hang on tight (faster faster)
Faster its alright
Its not a big motorcycle
Just a groovy little motorbike
Its more fun that a barrel of monkeys
That two wheel bike
Well ride on out of the town
To any place I know you like
First gear (honda honda) its alright (faster faster)
Second gear (little honda honda) I lean right (faster faster)
Third gear (honda honda) hang on tight (faster faster)
Faster its alright
It climbs the hills like a matchless
Cause my hondas built really light
When I go into the turns
Lean [tilt] with me and hang on tight
I better turn on the lights
So we can ride my honda tonight
First gear (honda honda) its alright (faster faster)
Second gear (little honda honda) I lean right (faster faster)
Third gear (honda honda) hang on tight (faster faster)
Faster its alright
First gear (honda honda) its alright (faster faster)
Second gear (little honda honda) I lean right (faster faster)
Third gear (honda honda) hang on tight (faster faster)
Faster its alright

Mr Cab Driver only thinks about himself
Here we go

If the Advertising Man Had Been Gilbert

Never mind the slippery wet street--
The tire with a thousand claws will hold you.
Stop as quickly as you will--
Those thousand claws grip the road like a vise.
Turn as sharply as you will--
Those thousand claws take a steel-prong grip on the road to prevent a side skid.
You're safe--safer than anything else will make you--
Safe as you would be on a perfectly dry street.
And those thousand claws are mileage insurance too.

--From the Lancaster Tire and Rubber Company's advertisement in the Saturday Evening Post

Never mind if you find it wet upon the street and slippery;
Never bother if the street is full of ooze;
Do not fret that you'll upset, that you will spoil your summer frippery,
You may turn about as sharply as you choose.
For those myriad claws will grip the road and keep the car from skidding,
And your steering gear will hold it fast and true;
Every atom of the car will be responsive to your bidding,
AND those thousand claws are mileage insurance too--
Oh, indubitably,
Those thousand claws are mileage insurance too.

Soul Driver

I rode through forty nights of the gospels rain
neath black sky pouring snakes, frogs, and a love in vain
You were down where the river runs wide
Baby, let me be your soul driver
Well if something in the air feels a little unkind
Dont worry darling, oh itll slip your mind
Ill be your gypsy joker your shotgun rider
Baby let me be your soul driver
Well now no one knows which way loves wheel turns
We may get rich or crash and burn
This fortune weight or just the black hand of fate
This love rushes over us and its ghostly voice
If the angels are unkind or if the seasons are dark
Or if in the air love just falls apart
Well then heres to our destruction
Baby let me be your soul driver
Yea heres to our destruction
Baby let me be your soul driver

To Find A Friend

In the mid dle of his life
He left his wife
And ran off to be bad
Boy, it was sad
But he bought a new car
Found a new bar
And went under another name
Created a whole new game
And the days went by like paper in the wind
E verything changed, then changed again
Its hard to find a friend
Its hard to find a friend
Meanwhile then
His wifes boyfriend moved in and
Took over the house
Everybody was as quiet as a mouse
And it changed their lives
Changed their plans
Slowly they grew apart
Boy, it woulda broke your heart
And the days went by like paper in the wind
Everything changed, then changed again
Its hard to find a friend
Its hard to find a friend
A nd the days went by like paper in the wind
Everything changed, then changed again
Its hard to find a friend
Its hard to find a friend
And the days went by like paper in the wind
Everything changed, then changed again
Its ha rd to find a friend

Easy Driver

Easy driver, shes a wicked rider
Shes smooth and shes skinny and shes probably mean
Easy driver, pull up beside her, roll down the window on this fine machine
Chorus:
(ooh ooh ooh) dont turn away, (ooh ooh ooh) just give me a sign
(ooh ooh ooh) dont be afraid, (ooh ooh) love is so hard to find
Easy driver, get on up beside her, she dont drive like she knows the way
Easy driver, roads getting wider
Theres room to run and she might skate away
Come on back, baby what you say
Chorus
One lane away from love, the story of my life
Could I be good enough for your lonely avenue tonight
Its a lonely avenue tonight
Chorus
Easy driver, shes a wicked rider
Shes smooth and shes skinny and shes probably mean
Easy driver, get on up beside her, roll down the window on this fine machine
Easy driver, oh oh oh oh, easy driver, easy driver, easy driver (easy driver)
Easy driver, easy driver, easy driver, easy driver

Long Walk

I need a long walk, with someone who knows what to do
I need a long talk, I need a helping hand to pull me through
I need a tall drink, with somebody who cares, I need someone here for company
Its time to rethink and somehow find a way to put an end to this mystery
See I dont know, the pain wont go
And the hurt inside is getting so damn hard to hide
So now I pay the price, I wonder how much its gonna take
Ive gotta roll the dice, and try to take all this heartache
But I still dont know, the pain wont go
And the hurt inside is getting so damn hard to hide
I gotta work it out, cause my heart is still racing, racing away
Work it out, cause my heart is still breaking, hey
So now Ill take this long walk, I dont want anybody listenin
cause I really wanna pour it out, and all went out without ever giving in
But I still dont know, the pain wont go
Im still hurting inside and its so damn hard to hide
You gotta help me work it out, cause my heart is still racing, racing away
Work it out, cause my heart, my heart is breaking away
Ive gotta work this out, cause my heart is still racing away
Yeah, work it out, cause my heart, its so much a part of me
Work it out - gotta work it out
My heart is still racing - and Im wasting away
Work it out - Ive gotta work it out...

Steering From the Helm

Steering from the helm.
I could be shifted and overwhelmed,
From the position I firmly stir...
As navigator.

Accustomed to unpredictable winds,
Alerting me to obstacles and oppostion...
I may face in preparation to brace,
This 'ship' I command.

And stand I do in anticipation,
To embrace Sun.
Freed and released from any tension,
If and when it should come.

Equipped with this in full acknowledgement...
That 'anyone' steering from the helm,
Could be shifted and overwhelmed...
From the position stirred,
As navigator!

Death Alley Driver

Rough and ready rider
In a supersonic sound machine
Rock and roll survivor
Chrome pipes between your knees
Running all the red lites
Your gonna make a dead stop
But you just cant see the signs
Oh - youll never win the race
But you cant give up the chase
Death alley driver
Living at high speed
Death alley driver...yeah
Death alley driver...who knows what you need
Death alley driver...
One hundred twenty five smokin on the turns
Always on the hit and run
But you never learn...
Running from the man... and youre running
From yourself
Another dirty angel heading straight to hell
Oh - youll never win the race
But you wont give up the chase
Death alley driver...
Live in overdrive...death alley driver...yeah
Death alley driver...ride to stay alive
Death alley driver...
Lets go
Red lights in the mirror
Danger on the band
Got to take a detour cause a road blocks up ahead
He takes you on the corner with a wave of his hand
Death is in the back seat of a big old black sedan
Oh - youll never win the race...
As you turn and see his face...
Death alley driver...
Movin for the kill
Death alley driver...yeah
Death alley driver...
Time is standing still...
Death alley driver...
Always on the run cause youre a...
Death alley driver
Love the way it feels
Death alley driver...yeah
Death alley driver
Hell on wheels...
Death alley driver... ooh -

Male Testosterone Invincibility

myth postulates teenage males
perceive themselves as invincible
consider themselves bullet proof

personally speaking as a past male
teenage survivor that rode the wild side
walked limped away where others died

accidents over 100 kph on open roads
accidents where nine out of ten died
I walked away from more than nine alive

friends used to come up touch me for luck
riding at speed in fools gear not full gear
living legends survived others swiftly died

back in the day when perfection was hourly
the impossible of course took just a little longer
strange even to this day accidents hurt badly

were all in cities low speed safe road rules obeyed riding
where people in cars talking on their cell phones driving
wasted flesh driving straight into you swift escape sped

yes proud superman and I were to stop cars
with nothing else except our body on highway
but it is a bit much when car drives over foot

when your immobile at a red light waiting for green
but that was an Indonesian car driver in no rules Jakarta
where speaking on cell phone driving is driver’s norm

hate cell phone driver’s driving all over road if you like
but keep eyes in the back of your head survive you might
coz getting run over by a ton of metal is heavy duty hard

Road Works

I think we’d all agree that Britain’s road works,
Whilst ongoing, offer up little in the way of perks.
You know that it will all be worth it in the end,
But, being caught in them drives you round the bend.

You sit there in the queue – cars nose to tail,
And you speed along as fast as a garden snail!
You’re in a rush and need to be somewhere quick,
But, forgetting the works, this was the route you picked.

For ages, there’s no movement from your steering wheel.
Angry and very frustrated is how you’re beginning to feel.
‘Come on! Come on! I haven’t got all day! ’ you silently say.
If you’d chosen another route, you’d now be on your way!

You’re feeling really tense and have a terrible headache,
But, quite a while longer, this situation is going to take.
To be able to get out of this mess, you well and truly yearn,
And wish that you were able to perform a cunning U-turn.

But, now you’re here, you have to sit and wait.
You glance at your watch, hoping you won’t be late.
You can feel your blood pressure steadily rising.
In the circumstances, I guess it’s hardly surprising!

You try to calm down, so a tune you begin to hum.
On the steering wheel, your fingers manically drum.
You grab the steering wheel and swear and curse.
You dearly wish that you were allowed to reverse.

Finally, the lights go green and you’re on the move.
You’re back to your old self and back in your groove.
Upon your face, there slowly appears a smile
But, it’s taken you twenty minutes to drive a mile!

From the traffic queue, you’ve now been freed,
And foot on accelerator, you pick up speed.
You now feel fully invigorated and alive,
And off into the sunset, you happily drive.
