Some of the press who speak loudly about the freedom of the press are themselves the enemies of freedom. Countless people dare not say a thing because they know it will be picked up and made a song of by the press. That limits freedom.

All Americans value the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press, and I believe this is essential for our continued way of life. But with this freedom comes responsibility. That responsibility has been abdicated here by some in the media and some in the government.

Acid wasn't getting a whole lot of bad press at the time, and as I saw the whole bad-press thing happen, I became aware that the government had done a whole lie on all the other benign drugs as well. It became clear to me that the government wanted no real drug education.

Sure the people are stupid: the human race is stupid. Sure Congress is an inefficient instrument of government. But the people are not stupid enough to abandon representative government for any other kind, including government by the guy who knows.

So I think that if we want to have a Congress, if we want to have government that looks like America, if we want to have government that is truly a representative Democracy, then we need to clearly address how we get our campaign laws out of the way of Democracy.

What I'm thinking about more and more these days is simply the importance of transparency, and Jefferson's saying that he'd rather have a free press without a government than a government without a free press.

Freedom of expression - in particular, freedom of the press - guarantees popular participation in the decisions and actions of government, and popular participation is the essence of our democracy.

It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press. This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies.

Freedom of Press
‘Freedom of Press’, ‘Freedom of Press’, the old lady cries
‘Shut the hell up’, the old man denies
‘Are you gay and how much do you pay? , the old lady asks
‘Shut the hell up’, the old man blasts
‘Tell me about the wife, is she still in your life? ’
‘Cleaning her teeth, busy is the wife’
‘Tell me about the dog, is it the one? ’
‘My life’s my own, not for everyone’
‘So it is the dog, isn’t it the dog? ’
‘I wouldn’t do a dog, would never do a dog’
‘You don’t say much, tell me something new’
‘Hmmm…is the evening convenient for you’
‘Evening is perfect, your place or mine’
‘Your place is better, I got something on my mind’
‘Would you like to see the freedom of press’
‘I am dying to see this freedom that you stress’
The old man sleeps, the old lady writes
The dog is in the yard, the wife never bites
Nation awakes to a dawn of celebrity
Those in the toga shout ‘death of morality’
Audio, video and debates and interviews
Oh Lord, who took away my news?
Morality-shmorality nobody buys
‘Freedom of press’ the old lady cries

We Are Told
We are told that we have got freedom yet not freedom to do as we like
There are places we are not allowed to walk in or where we cannot ride a push bike
Which means that our freedom is so called since we cannot even walk where we please
Ours is such a limited freedom we are not as free as a breeze.
Without a passport we cannot travel to another Country and that is for a limited time
And if we overstay our visa that is a deportable crime
By the Immigration Department of Government by a Government not blessed with a soul
There is a name for such a practice 'tis known as population control.
Young men in wars fought and died for freedom but was it for freedom they died?
When their Government leader told them they were fighting for freedom to the young and naive troops he lied
They fought for the glory of their leader and risked their lives on a foreign shore
They were used as pawns in a deadly power game just that sad to say nothing more.
We are told that we have got freedom though we have to be careful with the words we say
And if our speech on it has got restrictions then what is freedom anyway?
Young men fought and even died for freedom at least that's what we are made to believe
By so called patriotic politicians people who are known to deceive.
