When you step back and watch people, you realize that we use every single body part. Movement, dance - I find it genius because it's ultimate expression, really.

It's A Mind 'Thing
Not another dance am I going to have with failure.
Now that I've come to realize,
I've been the one selecting...
The tone, the tune and movement of it.
It took me some time,
To understand my own whining...
Came from a rhythm,
I initiated within me.
And I sought failure as a partner.
I did.
And...
I had to qualify it.
That's how attracted to it I was.
I remember recently being asked to dance with sorrow.
It was a slow bluesy, tearjerker thing.
Oh, I was quite tempted until I saw it smiling.
And I thought, 'Why do I want to dance,
With that much empathy?
Ready to have me pacing back and forth,
All night on the floor.
Am I that much in need of pity?
I don't think so.'
So...
I sat down and cried until my eyes dried.
How could sorrow approach me like that?
As if I was that easy.
Not another dance am I going to have with failure.
Now that I've come to realize,
I've been the one selecting...
The tone, the tune and movement of it.
And I've discovered...
If I keep telling myself I am happy?
Blessed with joy and abundant good health?
Guess what?
There is no one on the planet,
That can tell me I am not.
'Cause I refuse to have it any other way.
It's a mind 'thing'.

Oh See How They Dance!
their form
their posture
their movement
oh see how they dance!
their laughter
their joy
their smiles
oh see how they dance!
behind their faces of happiness and joy
they hide their true self
behind their masks they hide...
oh watch how they dance! ! !
across the stage
across the floor
up and over and under
they dance oh they dance! ! ! !
they act
they sing
they play
we watch how they dance! ! ! ! !
while we watch we think
what they hide behind their masks
on that stage and in character
and rejoicing! ! ! ! ! ! !
like nothing is wrong with their lives
i wish i would dance! ! !
but i go and i live my
boring old life and
oh i see how they dance! ! ! ! !
as
i
simply
stay lost in the crowd...
who sees how they dance.................

Baby Step Back
Now it looks to me like the same old place
In the sky it looks like rain
The same old town with the same old streets
The address has not change
You can find me there
With the door shut tight
And the one wish that remains
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
No you know I dont write no bad checks
I have no wish to repent
Ive seen a few
But whatever I do
I dont cause no accidents
Whiskey and wine help me pass the time
I dont leave no evidence
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Still I dont kneel down
I was born to fight
So youd best leave me alone
Maybe Ill get much more than I need
Or much less than I should own
Last of all let me say it again
Either step up or step on
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Baby walk back baby walk back
Either walk on or walk back
Baby step back ...

We move from part to whole and back again, and in that dance of comprehension, in that amazing circle of understanding, we come alive to meaning, to value, and to vision: the very circle of understanding guides our way, weaving together the pieces, healing the fractures, mending the torn and tortured fragments, lighting the way ahead — this extraordinary movement from part to whole and back again, with healing the hallmark of each and every step, and grace the tender reward.

The Gordon Back Step (Fun Poem 102)
Lets all do the Gordon back step.
We will make a decision
and when that falls flat
we will all step back
and apologize for that
and do the Gordon back step
like our Prime Minister likes to do.
I am sure it would make
a great dance to do.
First, make a decision
as daft as the last one you made.
Step forward with a proposal
and watch out for the no’s to the left.
Then step back and apologize for that
and do the Gordon back step.
It is so easy to do
or at least our Prime Minister
makes it look that way.

Dance For The World
Dance for the world, Dance for the world
People it's time now, Something's got to change
People, We no longer can live in pain
We've got to find the truth, We've got to know where it is
Cause we stand here together, Fighting year after year
We're lost in our search, We've been longing to find
We can't hold back no longer, Cause we're running out of time
Dance for the world [x4]
People, my people, We've gone too far, It's time now
To find out just who we really are
I know you're weary, Your hearts full of fear
I see the hope inside you, Behind all the tears
Dance for the world [x4]
If we could all just love one another,
We would see there is nothing more important
Or greater than love for the people
I would dance for the world, I would sing for the world
I would pray for the world, People dance for the world

From the beginning I thought about working with the body in movement, the space between the body and clothes. I wanted the clothes to move when people moved. The clothes are also for people to dance or laugh.

rumba The Sexiest Dance Of All
...
For the Latin American style born in the street
Well toned legs step step step hold, for you to meet
Her arms caress body and soul enticing I alone
You dance like the rumba melts in your bones
Stars move closer in you they believe I'm told
Dance dance you're so sexy so close to behold
We sway'n'gyrate our feet still on the beat of the one
This music will fold us in love till the night is done
The rumba the sexiest dance of them all
It seeps into your body moving together at call
Even the moon gets in on the act with a smile
As its beams thru the skylight your honey beguile
I love this dance, this music and I love you
The magic of it is it turns two into one
Draw down the blinds; lock the door turn off the phones
We dance like the rumba melts in our bones

Single Is Fair
Single
I am single
Question of double
Does not arise.
I am single
Only single.
Single sun
Single moon
Single earth
Single air
Single sky
Sngle water
Single fire
Single soul
Single body
All are there
All are fair.
Single is single
Single is beautiful
Single is fair.

Sweethearts Dance
(doug gill)
Sweethearts dance, thats what we do
The two heart two-step baby, thats me and you
Sweethearts dance round and round
Make out in the corner
Lovers quarrel, sweethearts dance
Sometimes babe I hate you cause my loves so strong
And then you make me feel so right
I think it must be wrong
You move me, you move me
This love dont make no sense
We make each other crazy baby
And dance the sweethearts dance
Sweethearts dance, thats what we do
The two heart two-step baby, thats me and you
Sweethearts dance round and round
Make out in the corner
Lovers quarrel, sweethearts dance
Love sets us in motion and gets down around our feet
Were living to the rhythm of our hearts together beating
I love you, I love you, let me whisper in your ear
Let me kiss you on the shoulder honey
Let me hold you near
Sweethearts dance, thats what we do
The two heart two-step baby, thats me and you
Sweethearts dance round and round
Make out in the corner
Lovers quarrel, sweethearts dance
Got your hand in my back pocket
Got your eyes all off in space
How bout we just get out of here
And find a quiet place
Sweethearts dance, thats what we do
The two heart two-step baby, thats me and you
Sweethearts dance round and round
Make out in the corner
Lovers quarrel, sweethearts dance
Make each other crazy
Dance the sweethearts dance

Dance of fate
Every step I'll take
Every move you'll make
A step
In sync
One is forward
One is backwards
A lonely dance
With only us two
We are not lonely
but we are alone
A dance filled with bitter sweet misery
If a step is wrong
We fall
We follow a pattern unknwon to us
As pride we left
As love we seek
And as we fail
Another step is taken
As I dance with death
In this dance of fate
Watch Your Step
Dont say a word
Dont say anything
Dont say a word
Im not even listening
I read in the paper about their escape
Theyre just two bitter kids with a bunch of sour grapes
You better watch your step
Watch whos knocking on your front door
Now you know that theyre watching
What are you waiting for?
Think youre young and original
Get out before...
They get to watch your step
Evry day is full of fun
And family spice
Theyre making heroes out of fall guys
They say its good for business
From singapore to widnes
You better watch your step
Broken noses hung up on the wall
Back slapping drinkers cheer the heavy weight brawl
So punch drunk they dont understand at all
You better watch your step
Evry night
Go out full of carna-al desires
End up in the closing time choirs
When youre kicking in the cot room
And youre drinking down the eau de cologne
And youre spitting out the kodachrome
You better watch your step
Bye
I send you all my regards
Youre so tough
Youre so hard
Listen to the hammers falling in the breakers yard
You better watch your step
You better watch your step
Ooh, watch your step

I think the importance of doing activist work is precisely because it allows you to give back and to consider yourself not as a single individual who may have achieved whatever but to be a part of an ongoing historical movement.

Try Again
Spoken:
Ah year, alright y'all, ah
You know the game
Verse 1:
I know sometimes I
Seem a little crazy
But I'm not too crazy in love
See I'm not a trick
I can take it or leave it
You can be about it
Cause I can do without it
B Sec:
For some reason
You take your life for granted
Like it's a game and
You'll always win
The things you say
And the things you do
You act like it won't come to an end
You need to realize
Chorus (2x):
Easily you can be left alone
Tighten it up, you better
Before you find yourself by yourself
Verse 2:
Some people say that
I'm nothing but a player
Don't play when it comes to my heart (laid back)
Don't be so cruel when you know everything is cool (cool)
You can be about it
Cause I can do without it
Rap:
I let you slide once
I let your slide twice
Third time baby doll
It won't be so nice
You looking hot 'doe
But you can't play Ron DeVoe
The laid back mack
With mad flow
So, here we go
I got a hottie
With a mad body
Don't chu know
In the 5-0-0
On the way to the cribo
So, how you live?
I had to ask my man Biv
Uhm hmm
Looking kind of positive
Chorus (3x):
Easily you can be left alone
Tighten it up, you better
Before you find yourself by yourself
Bridge:
For some reason you take you life for granted
Like it's a game
And you'll always win
The things you say
And the things you do
You act like it won't come to an end
But you need to realize
Chorus (4x):
Easily you can be left alone
Tighten it up, you better
Before you find yourself by yourself

Hidden Happening
I know from your frozen expression
I know from your sudden glance
I know from your added movement
I know from your little tremor
There will be something more that hidden behind
There is some proof that I can find
And there will be no lie, no lie
Because your body shows your true reaction
I feel from your halted words
I feel from your surround air
I feel from your silent eyes
I feel from your accidental behavior
I feel from your annoyed wrinkle
There will be something I should anticipate
There is some emotion that I must read
And there will be no deny, no deny
Because your body deceits your heart’s thought

Watching The World Go Past
I sit on the front step
Just watching the world go past
People walking
People talking
I see people running from themselves
People walking their best friends
Children playing with others hearts
Teenage girls crying over the past
I just and watch the sun set
Signalling that a new day will begin soon
I watch the rising of the moon
And the dots getting ever so brighter
Watch people fall in love
People smile as if nothings wrong
I watch all the people who have nothing to do
Watching people who have nothing to loose
I sit and watch the different lives form
Watching the new scene starting
The new lives beginning with a smile
The lives coming to and end
I sit on the front step
Just watching the world go past
People walking
People talking

Romeo
A cross between a movie star
And a hero in a book
Romeo comes struttin in
And everybody looks
cause hes just got that special thang
That everybody needs
And everybody wants him
But not as bad as me
Hey, romeo, where art thou
Get out here on the floor
I want to dance you darlin
til you forget wherefore
Lets two step to a new step
Well keep it all in line
And well call this the romeo
cause youre so mighty fine
Chorus:
Romeo, romeo, romeo come dance with me
That sexy little body
Beats all Ive ever seen
I aint never seen a cowboy
Look that good in jeans
My temperature keeps risin
Every time we meet
I may not be in love
But let me tell you
Im in heat
Chorus:
Romeo, romeo, I just know Ill get you yet
Romeo, romeo, I want to be your juliet
So step it high, step it low
Step it out and in
Step to the side and let it slide
Then steppin up again
Step on toes, it all goes
Steppin as you please
But Im one step away from love
So dont step out on me
Chorus:
Romeo, romeo, romeo with the magic feet
So step it high, step it low
Step it out and in
Step to the side and let it slide
Then steppin up again
Step on toes, it all goes
Steppin as you please
But Im one step away from love
So dont step out on me
