My oldest step-son wants to direct or produce. As far as being an actor, I've already told them they have to wait until they're 18; I won't take them to auditions.

The nice thing is that, at least in Los Angeles, I'm known as a character actor and I do auditions for other things besides just cartoon shows.

I think we have the same goals in mind. We are not planning on just all of a sudden taking a film and separating. Hopefully one day she can direct me in something, or I will direct her. Or we'll produce a movie under our company's name.

Eighteen steps
I took a note of her. First step.
I let her know it. Second step.
Not turned down. Third step.
I hinted my love. Fourth step.
It was approved of. Fifth step.
I wrote indirect comments and then
Direct. Sixth and seventh steps.
Gifts taken. Eighth step.
I elicited a few nods. Ninth step.
No further steps has she laid down
For me to climb on.
I stay put, hoping enthusing...

Every actor I ever meet goes, 'Ultimately I plan on having my own company and write and direct,' but yes, I too would love to write and direct a movie. I want to do a play, too. I want to do it all.

If I have enough ego to say I'm a writer, a director, a producer, and an actor, I should have the energy and the knowledge to write a scene for this great actor named Henry Fonda and direct him in it and have it work.

I hate auditions - when I'm doing them, I can't wait to get out the bleeding door.
Practice Every Step
Practice every step.
Do not second guess what it takes.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
There's no sleeping for someone who has a place to go,
So...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Focus on that goal,
And tighten on your hold,
And...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Do not second guess what it takes.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Every journey taken,
Must be thought of as a race...
And,
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
There's no other way to straighten out a crooked road,
So...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
No matter what you're told,
There will be some doubts and woes...
But you,
Practice every step.
Yes you,
Practice every step.
Woes you hold will eventually go,
So...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.

I was once counseled not to be seen without hair if I waned to be a leading man. So I had a piece made, and I wore it for a few auditions, but I could never bring myself to wear it in real life. I was never Brad Pitt movie-star handsome. I've always been a character actor waiting to happen.

Eroded
Everyone wants what they want...
Yesterday.
Prepackaged,
And ready to meet their demands.
To be used!
At their descretion and availability.
To fulfill their needs and comforts.
When the time permits.
And 'if' that time fits the mood!
There is one thing missing,
With this kind of attitude!
A willingness to sacrifice,
That which is desired to exchange communication.
And too many seek to be pleasured,
As if on vacation!
With expectations.
As they commence to holding auditions,
For a production they wish both to direct and produce!
With beliefs their non-involvement,
Is going to provide a perfect relationship...
To be staged and presented without flaws.
And when that doesn't happen...
It is always someone else's fault.
Someone to accuse and abuse,
For their lack of comprehending the rules.
Loyality, devotion and complete subservience!
And this is the quality of life,
So many are finding has eroded from their realities.
A fantasized existence...
They've been indoctrinated to believe can be theirs,
Without a price to pay.
OR...
With little invested but an expected huge return.
At someone's expense but not their own!

No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed
(richie havens)
Step out in the night
When you*re lonely
Listening for the sounds
That your ears don*t hear
I know your cross is heavier
With every step
Every step
But I know a man
And he*d walk miles for you
Stop, you stay where you are
Take a look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself
*can tell your momma
She*d only tell ya
That she told you so
The life you*re leading
She won*t believe
The riches of life
We all know
Dawn turns to day
And the dawning
Daytime, nighttime
And we still can*t see
Why must we wait until the morning light
To wake up and be
Wake up and be
Wake up and be
Step out in the night
When you*re lonely
Listen for the sounds
That your ears don*t hear
I know your cross is heavier
With every step
Every step
But I know a man
Who*d walk miles for you
Stop, you stay where you are
Take a look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself
*can tell your momma
She*d only tell ya
That she told you so
The life you*re leading
She won*t believe

Tell us The Truth
Tell us the truth
Tell us the truth
They said.
So he told them
The Truth,
Untainted
Undiluted
Straight
Direct
That's not the truth
It hurts,
They said.
Tell us the 'real' truth,
The Truth!
So he repeated it.
Again, the unadulterated
Spotless,
Plain truth.
You do not like us, do you, they said.
We're asking you
For the 'proper' truth,
The 'Real Truth',
Not
This hurtful rubbish
Tell us that truth
Tell us that truth.
So, weary,
And now wary,
He told it to them
Once more.
He did not change his story,
He told them
What he had always believed in,
He told them
That no matter how unpleasant
It sounded,
His feelings for them
Remained the same
He gave it to them
Once more,
Direct,
Undiluted,
Impartially,
But passionately nevertheless.
The Truth.
Go away, go away
They said.
You do not understand us
You do not like us.
Go away.
So goes the story
Of how they lost
The best leader
They could ever have had,
The only one
Who really understood them,
The only one
Who wanted nothing
But the best
'For Them',
The only one
Who never shied away
From The Truth
The only one
Who loved them as they were.
