I'm opening a store at the end of the month in the New York meatpacking district. I'm launching a line of bedding this summer, and I am writing a book that will be out next January.

Ballad Of January
January
Is
A new month
A new start for me
To learn new things
To learn to let go of my anger
And open up my heart
And to listen to what my heart
Is saying
It is waking up
From a long painful journey
Of last summer
I love you all the time
Sunsets
January
Thanks god you are mild
Because I hate the cold

Sarah Palin - now don't laugh - is writing a book. Not just reading a book, writing a book. Actually, in the word of the publisher, she's 'collaborating' on a book. What an embarrassment! It's one of these 'I told you,' books that jocks do.

Time for Heavy Boots
For eight-foot snow drifts,
for jagged icicles the size
of mastodon tusks to
drag down gutters.
For gales to howl
through storm windows
and make even stately mansions
shake and shiver like Medea
giving birth.
Time to watch your life
unfold before your eyes
before opening the portal
leading from light and warmth
to a world of frozen terror
where comfort knows no welcome.
Time for Time
to be devoured by Medusa,
waiting in the mirror.
January, the month when all of
our parents always die.
January, time of Janus, the
dual-faced god simultaneously
embracing past and future.
January, time to create
the future by remembering
the past with a finer, more
focused vision.

July....
July is the month where the families get the barbeque grills fired up.
July is the month where the night sky is light up with fire works.
July is the month where many families go out of town to be with family.
July is the month where many kids are dreary because it’s a month away for school.
July is the month where America gets to celebrate its independence from England.
July is the month where many people are dying of the heat of the summer.
July is my favorite month because it’s the time that I get to be myself around my family.

June In January
When in January it’s June,
in March it will be August, hot
and clammy while I swoon
within your arms, if I am not
mistaken about climate change
that is inevitable when
the summer months within my range
make me perspire once again,
and long for January that’s cold,
when I feel comfortable within
your arms, not feeble, frazzled, old,
and ready to embark on sin,
without the need for air condit-
ioning that I associate with June.
That’s why in wintertime I wish
that January will not leave soon,
but when it does it should be May,
my favorite month when birds do sing,
accompanying my love each day
with joy while you make my heart spring.
Inspired by “It’s June in January, ” a song associated with Bing Crosby, written by Ralph Rainger and Leon Robin:
A clouded moon creeps across the clouded sky
Winds of January sigh and moan
And yet it's June.
I can see a sky of blue
Dear the miracle is due to you.
Just you.
It's June in January
Because I'm in love
It always is spring in my heart
with you in my arms.
The snow is just white blossoms
that fall from above.
And here is the reason, my dear,
Your magical charms.
The night is cold
The trees are bare
But I can feel the scent of roses in the air.
It's June in January
Because I'm in love.
But only because I'm in love with you.
Oh the night is cold!
Won't it be to bear?
But I can feel the scent of roses in the air.
It's June in January
Because I'm in love

The Book Of Love
In the book of love come of age
When you lose your love, you turn the page
Hey-ho the book of love,
Life is written in your own blood
Say forever and it all sounds fine
When youre holding hands,
With the hands of time
Hey-ho the book of love
Laugh at the dead but tomorrow you cry
Chorus:
My broken hearts from a to z
Dos and donts on bended knees
Change of lovers endlessly
And this book of love is writing me
Chapter 2 you walk away
But in chapter 3 a man made me stay
Hey-ho the book of love
Why dontcha look up
All the games you played
Chorus
Theyll be sweet love in a darkness
But the book of love
Is a story of your loneliness
Finger tipped it on a holy night
And a page is ripped for a name of life
Check the back cause the datell be due
When theyll throw the book of love at you
They are broken hearts from a to z
Dos and donts on bended knees
Disappointed right to be
Celebrate a celebrity
K-i-s-s-i-n-g
Ah stupid cupid set me free
Took a look and whatll I see
This book of love is writing me
This book of love is writing me
This book of love is writing me
This book of love is writing me

New York Times
New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Cars choking your child to death
But you dont wanna see
Cause you only think about yourself
How blind can you be
New york poor new york
Sniper on the rooftop new york
New york poor new york
Not fit for a dog in new york
Everybody bites on the big apple
Leave the hungry in tears
But no one gives a damn no one really cares
How they feel theyre just paper people not real
You need a gun to walk into new york
Now youre broke and youre out on a ledge
Who can help you this time
Now youre down to your very last cent
Still youre askin me who was your friend
I was your friend
New york poor new york
Who turned the lights out in new york
New york poor new york
Just another blackout in new york
Girl dead on the 26th floor
But no one knew her name
Found her body behind the door
Too young for the game
New york poor new york
Devils in the subway new york
New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Talkin talkin talkin - watch out
Harlem touching midtown new york
New york poor new york
Talkin bout new york new york
Moneys getting tighter new york
Theyre burning the bridges to new york

Don't Take Lifts From Dames
Whose car
did you get out of?
Dolly asked.
Some dame
from the bedding department,
you replied.
She’s been bedding you
I suppose? Dolly said.
No, you replied,
she’s seven months pregnant.
So you got her pregnant huh?
Can’t keep your hands
to yourself can you.
I just got a lift home
by her that’s all.
You took off your coat
and went to the sitting room
and poured yourself a drink.
Dolly followed you in.
I found this name
in your pocket book.
A girl’s name.
You recognise it? Eh?
She showed you
the pocket book.
You read the name.
That’s just some dame
whose name I put down
who’s been shoplifting.
So you say.
For all I know
you’re having it off
with her too.
Maybe you’re having all
the dames at the store.
I’m a security guard
not a Casanova, you said.
She went off
out to the kitchen
muttering to herself.
You drained your drink
and poured another.
You could hear her
in the kitchen
slamming down
pots and pans
and cursing the air.
I don’t screw any dames
but you, you said.
You’re my Sweetie pie.
Dolly came back
to the door way
and stared at you.
You mean that?
Sure I do.
Every single word?
Every single word.
I’m your Sweetie pie?
Sure you are.
And you ain’t been sleeping
with no other woman?
No, of course I haven’t.
Never would.
Dolly’s glassy gaze softened.
She pushed back
her hair from her eyes.
Ok Sexy Boy
maybe I believe you.
Maybe you’re telling
me the truth.
Maybe I got you wrong.
She turned and went back
in the kitchen.
You sighed softly.
BUT IF YOU’RE LYING TO ME
I’ll POKE OUT YOUR EYES
she bellowed.
Out in the kitchen
Dolly banged around.
You emptied the glass.
A love was dying.
You could sense it
in your bones and
in the hollow sound.

In A Spin
My inspiration has thrown me in a spin
instead of writing one poem a day
I have now been writing six or seven.
After a few weeks of that
you could say I need a break
or at least cut down a bit.
Of course that is easier said than done,
the poems still come tumbling out,
so out comes the pen, and paper
and I start writing again
always asking will it ever end.
Maybe one day the river will run dry
and I’ll suddenly have a drought.

Medley: Hallelujah / Last Month Of The Year
(l. cohen/traditional)
Hallelujah was originally contained in leonard cohen's various positions, while last month of the year is a blues traditional. on the cd booklet this song is credited only as hallelujah.
I heard there was a secret chord
That david played and it pleased the lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this :
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrough ya
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Baby i've been here before
I've seen this room and i've walked this floor
I used to live alone before i knew ya
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not some victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when i moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah
Well, maybe there's a god above
But all i've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah...
[and here starts last month of the year]
Tell me what month was jesus born in
Last month of the year
Tell me what month was jesus born in
Last month of the year
Got january, january, march oh lord
Got april, may and june lord
You got july oh yeah
September, october and november
Got the twenty fifty
December is the last month of the year
What month was jesus born in
Last month of the year
What month was jesus born in
Last month of the year
Got january, february, march oh lord
Got april, may and june lord
You got july oh but
September, october and november
Got the twenty fifty
December is the last month of the year

When New Year Comes
When New Year Comes
Everybody Shivers
In the month of January
Which is cold and Airy
In February winter get’s Weary
Prepares for Leaving
Paving way for spring to come
In the month of March
Flowers loom Large
April comes
Summer knocks on the Door
When May comes,
Sun Brightens
Mangoes ripe and Juicy
Long hot days
Make June very tiring
Holidays for Children
All wait for Rain
Monsoon at its Peak
When July arrives
Rain brings Smile
August is the month of Freedom
Sometimes sticky sometimes Hot
In September one feels
Better then August
We call it Autumn
One see’s Flowers
Which are colourful and Rosy
October is the festival Month
Weather is good
Winter getting Ready
November makes everybody Happy
Everybody enjoys
Lights of Deepawali(Festival of Light)
In the Cold month of December
Christmas celebrated
Throughout the the World
Everybody says goodbye to the year
Welcomes New Year
On the night of 31’st December

One book at a time... though I'm usually doing the research for others while I'm writing, but that sort of research is fairly desultory and I like to stick to the book being written - and writing a book concentrates the mind so the research is more productive.

farewell summer GOOD_BYE
I live in Lake District in Turkey
for four years
as a permanent resident
after retirment
It is the hometown of my wife
rose district
iti is also called
the city Isparta
famous with her roses
especially with oil roses
rose oı ls
spilling on all over the world
scenting differently
the off spring are walkş ng
in obidiency
and silently and politely
holding their kins hands tightly
what a sight
but this summer
roses are in bankruptcy
nowadays
the purple and pink thistles
are turning brownish yellow
the sparrows..the finches...the goldfinches
are entering the uncultivated gardens scarcely
they have lost most of their joys
the sunflowers are opening wide
seeing the hottest sun
the butterflies are flying joyfully
the ancient house seems more desolate
her walls are mor wrinkled this year
at nights
ı cannot see any light
where are the olden women
living there
coping with themselves and life
the poplars around are hissing and whispering
in the winds
the green began to yellow
all my hopes are hollow
the crows
crow crow crow
and the madman
crows just like them
in the morning
the hazelnuts are still hanging on the trees
the grain be cut and scythed
some stains fell on the weather
ı feel
the hot days
will not last much further
farewell summer
good_bye
oh the last butterfly of summer
fly fly fly
when you are able to fly

If you're writing a book that takes place in New York in the moment, you can't not write about 9-11; you can't not integrate it. My main character's view is the Statue of Liberty and the Trade Center. It doesn't have to take over, but it has to be acknowledged.
