But it's true, it's nothing new that decisions about what movies are to be made, and how they're to be made, and who's to be hired to do what, and whether you hire somebody to do their job, or whether you hire somebody to fill a position and you tell them what to do.

Fire and Hire
Got this nuggets
from an old sage of mine
in the then promising youthful times
(thinking I would be soon a fire-and-hire officer but not)
Be cautious of fabulous cv/resume
be aware of glittering diplomas
overload certificates
overqualified is also disqualified
and not all of these are
fitted for the hire
how would you hire
to avoid mis-hire? (a barrier for a long-term goal)
Weed not out
those who would adapt new tricks
in a fast changing work place
they are a handful if not few
How?
I believe in your instinct;
my intuition says

The Last Bargain
"Come and hire me," I cried, while in the morning I was walking on the stone-paved road.
Sword in hand, the King came in his chariot.
He held my hand and said, "I will hire you with my power."
But his power counted for nought, and he went away in his chariot.
In the heat of the midday the houses stood with shut doors.
I wandered along the crooked lane.
An old man came out with his bag of gold.
He pondered and said, "I will hire you with my money."
He weighed his coins one by one, but I turned away.
It was evening. The garden hedge was all aflower.
The fair maid came out and said, "I will hire you with a smile."
Her smile paled and melted into tears, and she went back alone into the dark.
The sun glistened on the sand, and the sea waves broke waywardly.
A child sat playing with shells.
He raised his head and seemed to know me, and said, "I hire you with nothing."
From thenceforward that bargain struck in child's play made me a free man.

Guns For Hire (live 1983)
(A. Young M. Young B. Johnson)
The word is out that I'm about
And I've come gunnin' for you
I'm a real entertainer a mischief maker
A lover of no fixed abode
Ooh quick draw on the floor
No law give you more
Sweet talkin' lover of sin
You want what you get
You get what you want
Look out woman
I got gun's for hire
Shoot you with desire
The gun's for hire
Shoot you with desire
I'm a wanted poster a needed man
Wanted right across the land
I'm a smooth operator a big dictator
Gonna mark you with my brand
My gun's for hire
Shoot you with desire
Got gun's for hire
Shoot you with desire
Quick draw
On the floor
Big shot
Stick em' up
Hot to trot big shot take the lot
Never get the drop on me
I'm a real entertainer mischief maker
Love in seven languages
My gun's for hire
Shoot you with desire
This gun's for hire
I shoot you with desire
My gun's for hire
Shoot you with desire
Got gun's for hire
Shoot you with desire
What you got
Big shot
You can't get
You can't get the drop
On me

How Am I Qualified?
How am I qualified?
I would not be selected,
To be in your presence!
What experience do I have?
Has anything you verified,
Been connected or tied to corruption?
My life is based on 'fact'...
Not on created lies!
I am here to replace a mess,
I did not create.
I am here to achieve...
Not sit around and fake!
What did I like about my last position?
Leaving it in a better condition.
What did I dislike and why?
Being surrounded by incompetence.
And being around people who made no sense...
And got paid.
Proving I can correct mistakes,
Others had made.
Being taken for granted.
And having my point of view slanted.
Having my character slandered and despised.
Seeing people backstab and creating viscious alibis.
Gossipying and not doing tasks assigned.
Dining on the clock and whining all the time!
Why should you hire me?
That's a decision you must make.
But if you take a look out of your window...
And leave those pretensions you have behind.
You will discover there are very few left...
Who are 'not' completely out of their minds.
You are not going to find anyone like me...
For that fee to continue to swallow your BS,
And smother your crimes!
Let's get real here.
If you don't hire me...
Who else will you get?
To protect what's left of a quality of life,
You did your best to keep away from me.
Now that infestation has defected your reality.
And for years I've been getting you to hear and see...
Without me you will never do things right!
That's why you have few peaceful nights.
How am I qualified?
I've stood by and watched you,
Defy your own ignorance,
To spite everything I am.
Including my intelligence.
If you don't hire me and my honesty...
You will never climb out of the hole,
That swallows you as it grows.
How am I qualified?
I would not be selected,
To be in your presence!
With a mind still clear...
That is competent and bold!
And that clearly has not happened here!
I do not fear success or working at my best.
I may be more than qualified.
Judging from the surprised look you have in your eyes.
I would call what I have 'integrity'.
And if you don't hire me...
It will be the last of it you see!
And I hope you wont gamble with this opportunity.
Especially at these prices you offer and wish to pay!
Consider this deal a steal!

Alf’s Sixth Bit
Let some new lying ass,
Who knows not what is or was,
Talk economics,
Pay for his witless noise,
Get the kid nice new toys,
Call him 'professor'.
Lies from the specialist
Give t'old ones a newer twist
Harder to untie.
Here comes the hired gang
Blood on each tired fang
Covered with lip-stick.
'Oh, what a charming man,'
That's how the press blurb ran,
'Professor K s is.'
Now they can't fire him.
NO! they won't hire him.
Still Dr. S 's
Not tied to the ring around,
Not quite snowed under.
Being a physicist
They can't quite bribe him:
Oh, what a noise they made
Those parliamentarians.
Oh what a fuss they made
Stirring the marmalade
These parliamentarians
Never an honest word
In their dim halls was heard
For more than a decade.

Killer For Hire
On a night time ride
Find that nothing's left.
Not a thing in sight.
I’m going to my death.
Cut a deal with the Devil,
I’m signing my name,
Cuz I figure I’m going to Hell
Anyway.
Bringin’ my fire, Bringin’ my sword
I’m gonna fight you know.
I won’t be ignored,
Gonna rock and roll.
Ready, aim, fire
I’m a killer for hire.
(FIRE)
Killer for hire.
At the next sunrise
I might not be there
When you open your eyes
The demon might come to take his share.
Bringin’ my fire, Bringin my sword
I’m gonna fight you know.
I won’t be ignored,
Gonna rock and roll.
Ready, aim, fire
I’m a killer for hire.
(FIRE)
Killer for hire.

I think everyone who makes movies should be forced to do television. Because you have to finish. You have to get it done, and there are a lot of decisions made just for the sake of making decisions. You do something because it's efficient and because it gets the story told and it connects to the audience.

I Must Have Said Something Wrong?
What you're saying to me makes no sense at all.
My utility company hired your telehone center,
To call my home to convince me,
I can save money by using a discounted service...
That will provide me a lower rate on my electric bill?
There is only one thing that troubles me about this.
Why would they hire your company,
Which is located on the West Coast.
And I live on the East Coast?
When all they could have done,
Is not hire you at all to save them on phone calls...
With an additional lowering of my bill!
Plus...
Those I know that have been laid off,
Because of the lack of jobs...
Would love to get paid for just a walk to my home,
Announcing the good news...
That the local utility offers because of their concern.
And...
IF they have that kind of money to throw away?
They can pay my entire bill monthy...
AND buy me a new car.
Hello?
Hello?
I must have said something wrong?

Every time I work with a European director, I find they hire the person that captures the spirit of the role. Americans tend to hire the best face. The person that looks more like the role, whether they can perform the role or not is a bonus.
